Amidst the slew of touristy and cookie-cutter seafood spots, exists a cafe you'd be hard-pressed not to enjoy. The Lemon Tree is the locals' spot you've been looking for! It is often packed to capacity and yet the staff always greets you with a smile and manages to keep you updated about when you'll be next for a table. My family heads to Vero pretty regularly since it's halfway between where we are all currently living. By now, this has become our regular lunch haunt, with consistently good food at very reasonable prices.
The interior is bright and cheerful, a pale yellow meringue color with fake plants and lemons adorning the walls. All of the seating is booth style, so your group can sit and chat without being an elbow's length away from other diners. While this isn't the kind of restaurant you should come expecting innovative and gourmet selections, it is the place for classics and comfort foods made well. For less than $12 a plate at lunch, you can choose from an assortment of sandwiches and dishes, including chicken picatta, shrimp scampi, and even herb-crusted salmon. One of my absolute favorite features is that although most of the options come with your standard side of coleslaw, potato salad, or fries, Lemon Tree also offers the option of a side caprese salad! While the mozzarella slices seem to get smaller with each visit, the creamy cheese and the tomatoes are both very fresh and one of my absolute favorite alternatives.
The soups tend to rotate, when they have it, the lobster bisque is always thick and rich with bits of lobster throughout. Served with oyster crackers and saltines, it tends to be a little heavy on the black pepper for my liking, but it's still pretty tasty. As for the lunch entrees, the sandwiches are huge and come chock full of tender meat. The curry chicken salad boasts plenty of white meat, and is served as a single scoop atop a mountain of mixed greens. Also, the crab cakes have kind of a corn breading and bits of celery as well, which adds a nice crunch. Be warned though that this is the kind of crabcake that is equal parts breading and meat, so don't expect huge pieces of crab barely held together with any filling. My personal favorite is the chicken picatta, a large breast of white meat cooked a lovely golden shade, doused with a light and tart lemon sauce and then sprinkled with capers. As with most of their dishes, it's just enough food without being too heavy!
An extra bonus is that dessert is complimentary with your lunch, and you can cleanse your palate with a refreshing scoop of either lemon or raspberry sorbet! They really are exceptionally friendly, and very quick and efficient. I still haven't been for breakfast or dinner although they are open for both. Also, they do have a couple of wines and beers available if you'd like to imbibe. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area it's one of the better spots in town! -

Pleasant surprise for dinner! Complementary wine to start and sorbet to end (complementary) what was a great dinner. I had pan fried snapper and my wife had chicken. Both dinners were very tasty.

Full disclosure: this restaurant is run by my favorite high school Social Studies teacher and her husband. However, this is the best restaurant in the area, and the meals I've had here rival most of the restaurants in Boston (where I live).
My parents moved to neighboring Fort Pierce a few years ago. If they were 30 years younger, I'm sure they'd be active Yelpers as they love trying new places. They discovered the Lemon Tree, and kept telling me how wonderful it is, how every meal they had there is better than the last. Several months later when I came to visit, they took me there for dinner, and lo and behold, my former teacher is standing there! I had no idea that she had moved to Florida, let alone owned my parents' favorite restaurant.
I bring this up because Mary Beth and her husband have a passion for excellent service and excellent food. The specials are constantly rotating, and they are always outstanding. My mom still raves about a chicken dish that she wishes was on the menu permanently. Every meal comes with complimentary wine, choice of soup, and sorbet. It's an old-fashioned but nice touch to an already outstanding meal, and one that you won't find at many restaurants.
If you're in the area, be sure to make a trip to Lemon Tree, it won't disappoint. -

this place is a gem. stopped in for lunch during a short stay in vero beach with my family, and we couldn't stop raving about it for the rest of the day. the decor is adorable (think: LEMONS!) and you can tell that it's a place the locals frequent. they have a great, unique menu with sandwiches, soups, and entrees. both my mom and i got the chicken guacamole club, which was served on focaccia, yum! literally one of the top 5 sandwiches i've had in my life. the cherry on top was the complimentary sorbet at the end of the meal. the waitress was a sweetheart, and the manager stopped by our table to thank us for our business. i wish i lived closer!

I went to dinner at Lemon Tree on a Saturday night with an 8pm reservation. I have never felt so rushed in my entire life!
After ordering and receiving our soup within minutes of sitting, my mother wasn't even finished when they came rushing out with our entrees. We hadn't even finished our first glass of wine. When you're giving a complimentary glass of wine wouldn't you allow your guests to fully enjoy it and their appetizer before throwing their entree in their face??? Restaurants make the most profit off of beverages and we weren't even given the opportunity to order a bottle of wine to match our dishes.
Overall, our food was good. It was blatantly obvious that they just wanted us out of there. DO NOT allow your customers to make 8pm reservations if you're not planning on staying later than 9.
Despite the service, we thought it would be nice to try Lemon Tree again for breakfast. I called and asked if they take reservations. The woman immediately answered in a rushed tone "NO. Sorry we don't. Bye," and hung up!!!! I was going to ask what time she recommended we come in.
Not going now...
What is it with these people?? Just because you have a steady flow of customers doesn't mean you can give up on service.
Don't visit this place if you're looking for any kind of customer service. Decent food though! -

Best described as a Vero Beach institution for breakfast. The quaint downtown location, just blocks from the beach, is an ideal spot to begin the weekend.
I imagine they remain consistently busy. Service is very friendly. This place is well run.
They could film a movie in here. It would be perfect for the "generic diner scene." (bustling, lots of booths, the sun rising through the large front windows, endless pedestrian traffic in the background) Got it? -

I had lunch here with a friend of mine, after many rave reviews. Whoever markets for this restaurant should receive five stars, because all the locals (and most tourists) know about it.
I guess I might have been expecting too much based on all those reviews, and there was nothing WRONG with the place, but nothing really special, either. Maybe it was because the place is so popular, but the staff was impersonal and hurried (yes, it was busy, with a 15 min. waiting list at 1pm on a Thursday--whaaat??), and the food was average.
I got a chicken curry salad sandwich, that was okay flavor-wise (nothing special), but the way it was presented it was difficult to eat. I got fries as a side, and they were cut differently than your average, run of the mill McFry, but again, ho-hum. And everything needed salt. LOTS of salt. Ya know, I know we live in blue-hair-ville, but tasteless is not mandatory (sorry for the slight, seniors, but really, I am standing up for you too...just because you need to cut back on salt doesn't mean you have to give up taste, right?!).
Maybe breakfast is what everyone is raving about, but I didn't think to order it at that late hour...... -

Evening meal: soup/salad; choice of market fresh fish or meat (we like the lobster pot pie, a Fridays treat), a glass of decent wine (red or white),
sorbet or ice cream desserts --$30 fixed price! Ate there 4 times since Christmas, loved the food & enjoyed the experience.
Family owned/ operated, attentive and personable staff.
No pretense here. Usually a 10-20 minute wait without a reservation, because locals revere the place. Telephone for limited take away dishes. -

Baltimore, MD
We (party of two, a dad and 8-year-old daughter) went on a Thursday at 6:15 p.m. with no reservation. The place was packed with a 60- to 70-ish looking crowd and we were told it would be a 20 minute wait. Maybe 25 minutes later we were seated by a busy but professional/efficient hostess team (maybe the cranky one only works AM shift?). Dinner and service were outstanding. Pompano special was as good as it gets, and included glass of OK wine, three choices of soups (lobster bisque was chosen), bread and a sorbet for dessert. The place doubles as a hot spot for breakfast (think booths) but is a really solid, decent place for a nice, casual dinner.

Omelet, tuna, cheeseburger and pasta salad were just so-so. Great chicken pot pie. Order that if it's available. This is my second visit. I had breatfast on the first visit and lunch on this visit. Both were great, very short wait and great location. I don't think I'd go there for dinner due to the long lines and hurry up.

I love the Lemon Tree. The food, while not gourmet, is good. The people are friendly. The location is clutch. 3 things that contribute to a solid 4 star rating.
Local tip: Be prepared to wait for a table for lunch, unless you arrive just before noon.Listed in: Welcome to the Gluten Free…

Whenever I'm in Florida visiting my Mom we make at least one stop to the Lemon Tree. What can I say other than it is a great local "Family Style" restaurant?

Just had the 4th July breakfast. Can't really go wrong with eggs and bacon and the coffee was decent. $4.99 struck me as a bit rich for a bowl of oatmeal, but I guess you're paying for the Atlantic Ocean across the road.

Great place to eat anytime of day and the staff I wish I could take them back to NY to train our restaurants how a customer should be treated. They got a 4 star because it's very good but not the best thing ever. Also the diner atmosphere in the morning is casual but it gets a little more sophisticated at night but its still not dressy more a nice casual. Family owned and you can tell right down to the staff that they take pride in what they do, and do well. Oh get the chocolate mouse cake :) now I'm hungry.

For always being crowded during off AND in season, the Lemon Tree has great tasty food, quick service and a great staff! I've been going here for years. I usually stay at the driftwood and its convienent since its right across the street. Located along the Ocean Drive strip with the rest of the shops/food stops and resorts. Beautiful inside and they have the nicest waiters serving you! Their french toast is really good but their pancakes are AMAZING! They must have a great chef that makes their breakfast. Haven't had lunch there many times, but can't remember it being disappointing. Never had dinner there so I can't comment on that. Even on their most crowded day, I've never had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes.

Tasty lunch spot. Was mobbed even at 11:30 or so on a Saturday. Good roast beef and cheese sandwich, very good cole slaw. Good slaw is hard to find and they sure do it right here.

So being a frugal New Englander I thought the prices were a little steep for breakfast but after meeting the owner (who used to live very close to us in MA) and tasting the food and great service we were hooked. LOVE the Omelets and the Waffles. We hit this restaurant at least twice a week during our trips to Vero
