LeisurePro is a great business and tends to either have the lowest price on Scuba gear or come close.  An earlier reviewer mentioned that he had trouble getting a price match from LeisurePro, but I did manage to get one.  Sammy is not excited and gung-ho to issue them, but he will if you can prove an exact price match

You have to have the same SKU, the good must be new, not on Ebay, from an established seller, available to the public at large, published online, and include at least the exact same things that LeisurePro includes.  Given that LP is generally within 5% of the rock bottom price anyways, this is tough to do.  The best place to try and finagle a price match would probably be Northeast Dive Supply.

Leisure Pro has a few gotchas, but they run an honest business.

I don't know how Orthodox Jews get a dive shop right, yet here this place exists. Improbably, the same people who run Adorama downstairs manage this place as well, and if you ever thought you'd be getting advice on a wetsuit from a 40-year-old man in peyos...

The selection is amazing and the prices quite reasonable. I recommend these guys highly, just like I recommend their sister business Adorama.

Great diving store. I was looking for a snorkel kit and we went to paragon. The sour faced salesperson handed me a 75 dollar kit am walked away without looking at me or tellin me the price.

Fortunately my girlfriend talked me out of buying that and took me to leisure pro. The salesman there ( I don't know your name but you are awesome, big guy ) was super helpful and we ended up getting a snorkel kit , find and a backpack for 69 bucks.

    SCAM ALERT:

Leisure Pro claims to "guarantee that you will pay the lowest price on every item we sell.   Here is how it works, find any identical item priced lower on any website, and we will beat that price by an additional 5%."

    The GUARANTEE is BOGUS!

I found 2 items on another website at a lower price.  Same exact items as at Leisure Pro also shipped from NYC (near Leisure Pro's location, ironically).  Leisure pro refused to match the price saying that it was too low for them to match.  (I tried to get them to match first by email and then by phone, and was turned down twice.)

If they are untrustworthy regarding their "guarantee" I can't imagine they'd be trustworthy elsewhere...

    So, BUYER BEWARE!

As I do whenever I run into a scam, I've filed a complaint with the BBB.

Lastly, make sure to read the filtered reviews for this business.  They're very telling - looking at all the 5 star reviews for this business is not accurate.

This place has like a B&H photo feel to it....

The selection is pretty good (better than I thought) and I was pretty amazed at how they just had such a huge selection of all types of diving equipment. The help was a little slow but there were about 4 or 5 other people in the store. I will be buying here again even with the current stigma that surrounds this place. I got in, got my dive tools and knives and left. While I was waiting I had a chance to check out all the gear and probably would have had sat there all day staring at all the stuff I want but cant afford. Scuba diving is fun...This place helps a lot, but you have to wait..

The first time I went here, the sales people were friendly and helpful although the service was very slow. (It took us more than 2 hours to buy masks, lenses and snorkels. I wanted to get the best masks for my husband and myself and was willing to pay for it...
The salesperson encouraged my husband to get a cheap mask, assuring him that it was as good as the rest.
A few weeks later,  we tried our new equipment out while diving in the Caribbean. My husband's mask flooded time and time again on our dives and the outer rim of plastic was clearly poorly designed.

Upon our return, we went back to Leisure Pro to exchange the mask. We  were willing to pay the difference for a better quality mask.
Given that they had strongly encouraged us to buy this particular mask, and that we were willing to invest in more equipment there, I can not fathom why they were so unwilling to help.
We waited for over 30 minutes to speak to the right person about our concerns, and they turned us away. Rather than helping two people who would have been life-long customers, they made no offer to help our situation and refused to exchange the mask.

I would love to say that I've been here and can report on what a great experience I had. Unfortunately I was more than a little frustrated when I didn't get to because of their incompetence. My girlfriend specifically called on a holiday to ask when and if they were open and was assured that they would be open until 5 pm. We rushed downtown so as not to keep them past 5:00, but when we arrive at 4:35 pm, they had already closed down. No answer on the phone, no way to access the store via the elevator. To me this is beyond inconsiderate. If you are going to close early- why not SAY SO when someone calls you that very same day, even if you are *thinking* about closing early?
May the rest of their customers never have their time wasted like this, but I would have trouble trusting their advice on the safest scuba gear if they can't even be counted on to tell me when they will be open.

I've never set foot in the store, but have bought a few thousand dollars of dive gear, over about 20-25 orders in the span of the last three years.  I won't get in to the whole LDS vs. online debate, but to those who use the tired old "It's all grey market stuff" argument, just take the time to check for yourself before repeating such nonsense.  The VAST majority of items on LP's site carry a full manufacturer's warranty--something you'll never get with an unauthorized or "grey market" sale.  LP is in fact an authorized dealer for almost all of what it sells and offers a better than manufacturer's warranty for the few brands it isn't.

Ordering from them has always been reliable and easy.  Shipments are always prompt, usually going out the same day.  Returns are easy.  I've only ever had one issue with a purchase:  I ordered a medium-sized Mares travel bag ($150) and they sent me a large one ($200).  I had preferred the smaller lighter one, since I was flying internationally and wanted as little bulk as possible, but since I was leaving in a few days I just used the larger one.  Turns out it was for the better since I am able to use the larger bag when I dive local dive boats and carry a lot more gear than would have fit in the medium-sized bag.

With unbeatable prices, no sales pressure or gimmicks--I've never once had to ask how much is this item for _me_ ? as I do in my local dive shops!-- and an amazing selection, LP is my primary source for my growing gear collection.

This place is a hidden gem.  Literally, it's kind of hidden, I walked into the camera shop downstairs and stood around feeling and likely looking very confused at the lack of dive gear.  I finally realized that I had to take the elevator, located just inside the street entrance, to the second floor.

I was there to check out a BCD they had on their website before I made the decision to purchase it.  They did not have the exact model I was looking for in stock but they had the base model in my size so I was able to put it on and check the sizing out.  The salesman (I think his name was Charlie) said they had the model I wanted in their warehouse and they would ship it to me if I liked.  I'm going on a trip in March and I'll be heading back to Leisure Pro in the next few weeks to pick up a BCD, computer and regulator setup.

Came here last week for fins and boots for diving. It was really crowded, probably because it was a Sunday and they are closed Saturday so this would be the only time people get to shop here on the weekend.  My bf and I decided to go eat and come back a little later when they might be less busy. About an hour later we walked in and it was much less crowded. They have a vast array of equipment, and you can search their website right there in the store, tell them what you want, and they call it up from their inventory room. The gentleman helping my bf and I was very nice and made sure our equipment fit well. All in all, a good experience.  I would recommend going there during the week if you are able.

Yelp does not let you down.  Yelp never fails.  This place deserves every bit of its super high rating.

Sometimes in dive shops you can feel like you are being swindled.  This is the exact opposite.  These guys are here to help you get what you need at a good price.  The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.  They do not push expensive items on you, rather, they help you find the best fit for your needs and then deal with prices.  I was shocked when it turned out the mask he had recommended was the cheapest of the bunch. Our salesman actually took money off our total and threw in a free mesh bag without us even asking.  Why can't life be like this regularly?

This is one of the best dive shops in NYC, which says a lot, in my opinion (I've been diving for more than 30 yrs).

The shop does not have a whole lot of stuff on display, and because of that you'll be better off if you did your homework and looked at their website before going to the shop directly. Once in the shop, however, the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable, and they will get what you want to see/try in no time. There is also a computer in the shop only for customers, so that you can quickly search their catalog, if needed.

Great shop, great prices, helpful staff. A winner.

I schedule a trip to Mexico with my GF and we plan to do some snorkeling.  I had considered renting the stuff down there, but then the idea of using a snorkel that 100s of other people have used made me realize that a small investment in gear will give me peace of mind.

So I stopped in on Saturday and found out it was closed.  They are Orthodox Jews so they observe the Sabbath.  Their schedule in October is a bit hit or miss b/c of Jewish holidays.

I didn't have any idea of what I wanted, but the guy behind the counter was helpful.  He really didn't give me a bunch of choices - I basically told him that I'm not looking for anything special and nothing too expensive.  He calls up a mask and snorkel for $20.  Not bad.  He tells me how to tell if the mask fits and I'm off.

I'd come back if I needed some more stuff, but I might do some research if I'm going to drop a lot of coin.

Leisure Pro is the hidden-gem that people in the know go to when they want the BEST deal on top-quality SCUBA gear they have already researched.  If you are an experienced diver and know what you need, Leisure Pro is where you will find the best deal.  I haven't found lower prices ANYWHERE, on-line or otherwise, and I've been buying SCUBA gear at this store since 1996.

You can visit their on-line store at http://www.leisurepro.com.  Here you can see what they offer, but when you want the hands on experience...say, to try on your BC (buoyancy compensator), fins, wet suit, or mask for proper fit...make sure you head to their store upstairs on 18th street(the camera district).  You REALLY want to make sure your gear fits BEFORE you hit the water and this is where you can try it on for size.

The only warning I offer is that they are busy and their personal service is not the same as going to a full-service diving store.  Know what you want before you get there, or at least do your research beforehand, as some of their staff didn't seem to be SCUBA divers.  They aren't educators like full-service dive shops...they're primarily business people.  You will need to be informed when you walk in, in case some of their more seasoned sales staff are busy with other customers.

NOTE:  They are Orthodox Jews, so they observe the Sabbath.  If you are a New Yorker, you know what this means, but if you are a tourist and perhaps not familiar with Orthodox businesses, they will close early on Fridays and remain closed all day on Saturday in observance of Shabbat.  Thus, you might want to plan your visit during the work week.

I still have every piece of gear I have ever purchased from Leisure Pro, and it has all been top notch.  On one very fortunate occasion, it saved my life. Over the last 11 years, the only thing I have had to replace is 1 mask strap and I've used all the gear many times.  It has survived numerous dives and several international flights housed in nothing more than an intelligently packed mesh dive bag (NOTE:  be sure to keep the plastic box your mask comes in for storage and air travel).  When properly maintained, stored, and cleaned, Leisure Pro's product lines definitely stand the test of time.

When underwater, my life depends on me having properly functioning gear, so I only buy the highest quality.  This is why I travel with my own gear...I know how it works, that it fits properly, and I trust it completely.  Don't be fooled by Leisure Pro's very low prices...this is quality stuff.  If you also like top-quality gear for the best price possible, Leisure Pro is where you can buy it.

I just bought a new bcd from this place and they even BEAT THEIR OWN ONLINE PRICE!!! My buddies and I went to buy BCDs together and they took off an additional $10 from my BCD making it $220 flat. thats an awesome price.

Not only was that model selling anywhere from $30-$200 more than LP was selling it for.... but LP beat their own price just because we bought a lot all at once and kept on wheedling away to give us a better deal!

    yay!

    hooray for Leisure Pro!
and yes, dont tell my local dive shop.... if he asks where I got my bcd from.... i.... inherited it from... Larry Polenski....

So i am taking the hubbie to the caribbean for his 4oth and i need snorkeling equipment. So i think no problem a sports shop around here must have some. Well i would have to drive to far and run into really high prices. So an online forum for the caribbean suggested i try this web site called leisure pro.

I went online and got all our stuff for snorkeling and it cost me under 200 for me and the hubbie to get all new snorkeling gear.  They promptly emailed me with my order once i hit submit. they promptly the next day emailed me and told me it was shipped. They promptly answered an email question about my order.

You can;t get any better than this.  i am raving about this place and i haven't even got the equipment yet. It is probably because their is just so little "Customer service" anymore and when i find such a prompt and efficient web to order goods i just got to tell someone.

try it out.  I will update after I get equip and let you know about the quality of what they sell.

This is one of the weirdest stores in New York. It is above Adorama, a long-standing survivor in the photo business, and not a slouch at that, either. As far as i can tell, the owners are the same, Orthodox Jews. Don't take this the wrong way, but my understanding is that Orthodox Jews mostly work, read the torah, and procreate. So what makes them experts at scuba gear?

Fact is, it doesn't matter. Leisure Pro hands down has the best prices and selection of any dive shop in New York City. Their prices are so low they are suspicious. But I have bought life-saving equipment here, and it has been reliable and new. You can check them out on line, but most of the gear that you need to buy needs to be fitted, anyway.

As a female and as someone who has been to stores like Adorama and B&H plenty of times, I've found that it pays to be an informed buyer.  As a result, when I walked into Leisure Pro, I had a list of what I was looking for and had done enough research to know how things should fit.  And armed with my list, I found the staff there (Charly specifically) to be incredibly helpful.  I knew how much each item was supposed to cost.  I know that the Aquamarine version of the mask I was looking for was on sale but that the other colors weren't.  And where my research failed me (aquamarine was no longer in stock), Charly stepped in, steering me toward similar and sometimes better choices.  Like when I asked him for a specific snorkel and instead of just ordering me that, he replied "If you're looking for a dry snorkel, I've got a better one that's $3 cheaper!" which sounded like music to my ears.  I mean who knew that in this day and age, there was still such a thing as interactive and thoughtful customer service!!!

Charly also helped me find fins that fit properly.  I wear a women's size 8 and after several trials, we found the size 4 of the Cressi-Sub Pluma Full Foot Fins finally fit perfectly.  He then put me through the paces trying on mask after mask until he finally nodded approvingly, indicating that one was the right size.

All in all, it was a great experience.  Charly had an idea of what I was looking to spend per each item and compared to some of the mask, snorkel, fin sets that are available online, I made my own kit for around the same price with pieces that are much higher quality.  Looking back at their website, it seems they have a fair number of used items reasonably priced as well so I will most likely be back.

When it comes to Scuba gear, you won't find anywhere in the world with a better inventory and better prices than Leisure Pro.  I am new to Scuba and I needed a reg\octo & computer.  The prices at Leisure Pro were 100's less than my local dive shop.  Being just a short scenic drive from NYC I decided to make the trek..  As others have mentioned the store closes early no Fridays and is closed  on Saturdays due to religious reasons so check the hours before you go.  Ben "The Leisure Pro store manager" was more than helpful and even entertained our baby while we were checking out various equipment.
