Don't expect to get to this place easily, folks! You have to pass it by, turn at the next street and loop around through the neighborhood. Weird.

But once you're there, it's a pretty nice place, for what it is.

I like the layout, because even though it's open there are definite areas where different games can be watched with little sound overflow to the adjacent areas.

They had 2 for 1 sliders yesterday, so we tried em out. You can get beef, buffalo chicken, or pulled pork.

The chicken slider was pretty tasty I got a side of blue cheese dressing to go with it. I recommend that, although I've found that there are a few places that have decided to make their blue cheese dressing by taking ranch and adding blue cheese crumbles. I think they do this here as well.

The beef sliders (according to my friend) were on the dry side. He said, "They're not so much sliders as they are mini-burgers." Yes, there's a difference. No, I won't go into it right now. I know I know, you're looking forward to a ramble about sliders, but suffice it to say they're not the best I've had. Still, the chicken ones were pretty good.

My roomie got the shrimp fried and tossed in chipotle aioli. Sounded weird, looked weird, tasted..pretty decent, actually. It was served with lemon and lime on the side, and squeezing that over them really made the dish come together a lot more. Once again I wish people would actually heat up their chipotle creams and aiolis. It's not just for color, folks! But then, I'm a spice fan.

We also had some large pints of Fireman's 4, which was on special and served in chilled mugs. Not bad.

Good service, and pretty decent food. All in all a decent place to go watch Hockey.

And, due to specials that day, 2 20oz beers and 6 sliders with large-cut fries only cost me $13 before tip. Not bad.

Oh, and lastly, why is it that every place that's called "Legends" and is a sports bar has like the EXACT same looking logo? They're not a chain. I asked. Must be a subconscious marketing thing.

Good Bar if you are from out of town if you are staying at the Holiday Inn and don't feel like driving.

They are pretty generous with their shots but price is pretty average to San Francisco prices.

If you want to sit down and think, this is not the place.
Though I came in during the big Texas A&M game.

On the other hand you don't want to be at a bar to think.

I give it 4 stars for the convenience.

I saw all sorts of great reviews of this place, and when a buddy and I were trying to catch a game, we decided to check this out. Sure enough, there's a big projector, a bunch of tv's, and some damn good food. When you're looking for a sports bar, that's all you need.

So why 2 stars?

It's simple-the floor plan is TERRIBLE. Was this place designed by M.C. Escher? There's pillars at inopportune spots, the floor rises in odd locations and there TVs are sprayed all over the wall. So much potential and so easily squandered.

In a way, I feel a little sorry for Legend's:  when I first moved to Austin lo those many moons ago, Legend's was about as close to a sports bar as you could get to in this town.  It was an odd distinction, certainly so when you figure in the fact that it's essentially a sterile, half-shoddy hotel bar with a sports theme.  In a town as sports crazy as this one can be (or at least with as many sports fans as live here), it's a characterization that didn't hold true for long:  even exempting some of the bars downtown that show sports but don't lead with that idea, the obvious sports bar experience became an increasing reality:  first Ringers, then Champions, then Third Base and so on.  Now there's almost a glut of them even for the sports lovers among us.

The last time I was in Legend's, they were holding court, so to speak, on behalf of a group of college fans who needed a place to gather when all others were taken, and I suppose in that sense, they've really got a good thing going.  There are the requisite beers available (though not an extensive selection), and it's easy to get to if you're north of the river or, perhaps, staying in the Holiday Inn in question.

In that sense it's a little like where a sports fan might go to watch a game if he or she was in the witness relocation program.  Available, though not omnipresent, and passable, though not intruiging particularly.  Though if you want to be among your rooting cronies, and those folks don't include a team from around here, you might just call this place home for awhile.

I know about Legends Sports Bar because my husband and his friends are Florida alumni.  Legends, which is located within a Holiday Inn, hosts the Lone Star Gator Club during football season, which is where a bunch of Florida fans can get together in Austin to watch the game and get rowdy.

I can't stand watching football.  I don't understand it, and I don't really want to learn, but I can totally stand doing it here.  It makes for great people watching, and there's the interesting Florida to Austin angle.  I have to admit it's pretty entertaining to watch people go Pavlov when they hear the Jaws theme and automatically feign shark mouth with their arms.  Also, they have good appetizers you can get decently cheaply.

My husband says they host other things for other out-of-state schools too, like Wisconsin and Oklahoma State, FYI.

2 1/2 stars.
In all fairness I have only been to Legends twice, but once was enough for me. If you have nowhere else to watch the game, Legends will do in a pinch.  Best crowd  is during college football.  Location is not at the top of my list.
