Yet another glowing review for Lefty's.  In and out in 20 minutes with a great cut at a reasonable price.

Bernt and Brian are very friendly.  You'll feel relaxed and happy to be there.  Highly recommended!

Old school! All that needs to be said. I was a little nervous, cause all the workers have shaved or buzzed heads. This place did a great haircut.
Well a perfect haircut. I got Jason, he was really friendly and not overly talkative. I hate when a barber talks your ear off. Only complain was I made a 12 appointment and was not in the chair till 12:15. I am sure this happens all the time. Also Jason offered me a beer, which was great
I learned a lot from their fine collection of Maxim magazines. Go here and get a real haircut.

In March I decided to step it up a notch with my haircuts when I had an important job fair to go to in DC. I went from the ghetto 8-10 dollar barber shop to Lefty's, which is 18 bucks/cut. I discovered you get what you pay for. Lefty's puts those cheapies to shame. Very detail oriented; all the barbers there make sure they give you a good cut.  They spend at least 30 minutes on my hair, and I don't have that much. The aforementioned cheapies spend half that amount of time, and you can tell.

And some place like Supercuts? Are you kidding me? GTFO. No way I'm going near that place.

Overall, Lefty's rocks. I was a little sad today when I went for my cut because I knew it would be my last one at Lefty's. I can only hope to find a barber shop in DC that is even half as good as this place.

This is the first time I went to a Barber Shop, which specializes in men's hair.  I have never grown facial hair before and was very intimidated by the whole process of shaping a beard and then facing ridicule by my friends when I come through with a loppy beard.

Chuck was the man and hooked me up with a 30 minute shave... I couldn't imagine that a shave could last 30 minutes and I was estatic after I had left because now for the first time I have rocked facial hair in some sort of styled manner.  The whole process was relaxing and he answered all my questions that I had about shaving a beard.

Thanks Chuck for helping be one step closer to being a man's man.  I will definitely be back, next time I will check out their haircuts too.

Lefty's is by far the best barbershop that I have been to in San Diego-out of 5 or 6 that I've tried. They're courteous and good at what they do...cut hair! They're skilled in the art of barbering- and they're not afraid to use a straight edge razor like some wanna-be barbershops in the area. Although every time I call for an appointment they tell me that they're booked for days; so I just show up and they're always able to take me as a walk-in almost right away. You will leave here lookin' fresh.

This place isnt so bad maybe but they need to learn how to do business. First they ask you to make appointment then they dont even answer the phone. Also they dont have voice mail. I really dont get it.

Also there isnt much different between a 7$ place and this one. Why to pay more?

They dont advice you a good haircut.

I was there twice, there wont be any third time.

It took me forever to try to find a place near me that did good skin fades.

Mitch did my hair. He is a cool guy and is pretty interesting to talk to. And yes, he can do good skin fades too.

I haven't tried the other guys, but I wouldn't mind. I noticed that a customer was 8 minutes late, and they had to reschedule him. That is the most professional I've ever seen a barber shop get.

I'll be back.

You'll never go to Supercuts again after going to this place.

A friend of mine convinced me that I should try this place out. After years of going to chain barber shops, I was initially skeptical but eventually went.

The guys who work here are meticulous. Jason gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had, and it really shows. They also trim up your neck with a straight razor, which really leaves you clean cut.

Be sure to call ahead and get an appointment. The day I went, you could get a same-day time.

Will go back, would recommend to a friend

I'm not one to tolerate a lot of nonsense, which is why I really dig their "appointments only" and "no cell phones" policies.  There's no wait, they won't rush you out even if you're the last client of the day, and all jackassery is left at the door.  It's as professional as a barbershop can get while keeping things loose.

They're patient enough to understand what you want, honest enough to make sure what you want will work, and skilled enough to execute.  I've gotten superior results from Mitch, AJ, and now Felipe.  But I've also gotten subpar work (noticeable lines in a fade) from I-won't-say-who.  Judging from another review, I wasn't the only one whose hair he botched.  But that's immaterial because I think he's no longer around, and I assume that he was given the boot.  Perform or perish.  How many other places would bother?

Lefty's gets it, and it's the only place I'll go to get cleaned up.

"So a man..."
"Yeah........a man.........."
"Yeah a man gave me........"
"A man gave you........"
"A man gave me............a.............haircut."
"So?"
"So......he had his hands..."
"So he had his hands what?"
"He had his hands.....and.......he was......cutting and snipping"
".......That's a haircut"

Since I'd had hair to be snipped off my head, my mom had always been the one to do it. Then when I moved away, it's been a flow rotation of stylist by committee that acted as a temporary sub from off the bench to fill that void when I didn't go home.

However today, things, changed as I came into Lefty's, and a being that possessed both X and Y chromosomes.

What i noticed from Mitch though immediately was that he was so fluid and smooth in is motions, like he was performing a magic trick transforming me from a hippy PB bum into a respectable young man that a girl would not be scared to take home to mom.

He was so surgical with his clippers and scissors, that by the time he brought the straight razor to the side of my head, something I'd never had done before, instead of crapping my pants I merely let out a meek yelp and closed my eyes while thinking happy thoughts.

My hair was neat, sharp, and spectacular.  Five stars.

Let's say you are a guy and you want to get cleaned up, but you don't want any of the following:

* Blue-haired grandmas
* Metro-douches
* A lady named Consuela who you have seen the guard fall of the clippers on the previous two clients resulting in a sweet Jackass inspired uneven buzz cut
* A bunch of "Flair" or other carnival style nonsense

Most of my friends are bald, and can trim their hair using their index and middle fingers, but I on the other hand have friggin kudzu on my head and often go months without shaving.  Suffice to say, I need some professionals to "keep my lettuce tight."  I personally like rolling in here for a straight razor shave, it is like a ride in a time machine.

We live in a time where everything is entriely to rushed and pussified, and Lefty's is anything but that.  As right wing talk show host Michael Savage would say "We need more Patton, and less patent leather" and I would have to agree.  Put down the Shick Catorce because a single blade and a skilled barber is all you need.  The men at Lefty's are professionals and will make your "steady hand" look like Michael J Fox driving a Class 11 in the Baja 1000.  (Side note: Yes, that was probably in poor taste, but I'm a big fan of MJF and figure now that stem cell research is getting funding he should be 100% by next week)

That being said, pull your pants up, put a bend in that hat brim, pull out your bluetooth, and grow a pair... Lefty's will take care of the rest.

My husband went to Lefty's today and Jason cut his hair and gave him an old school shave. My husband absolutely loves this place. It was his first time here and he had a great experience. I think his shave was about 30 mins. He will never go back to a SuperCuts or Great Clips again. His face looked so clean and clear after his shave. Jason was really thorough and took his time cutting my husband's hair and shaving him.

Awesome place.

Great cuts, great price.

Leave the attitude at home.

Hot-shave on the neck if you want it and some guys that just really know what they're doing.

I've gone from short hair to a little longer lately and these guys come through every time.

SO, it starts like this:

I got so tired of going to supercuts or their equals to have my hair production-line style whacked away and then having to pay 25 dollars for the whole lame process, that I bought a pair of clippers and started buzzing my own head in the bathroom.

Wait....let's be honest.........having my girlfriend do it for me. There, I said it.

Then one day, I heard someone talking about how every man at least once in their life NEEDS (emphatically) to have a legit barbershop experience. I thought "I am such a man", and so the search began. I knew I didnt want a shop like in that movie with Ice Cube, but I did want a place where it was friendly to the point of being nearly unprofessional, the scissormen knew their stuff, and a place where they won't let you walk out lookin' like you got in a fight with the lawnmower man and got the better part of your mane shoved up your butt.  I found my shop at Lefty's. You need a place thats gonna be honest and not sell you a mullet, unless you demand it. You need someone to tell you " You cut your own sideburns uneven, let me fix it".  I like Lefty's. It's clean but not oversanitized, it's professional but not overbearing. I really dig people and places that don't take themselves to seriously. I think they get bonus points because they knew tattoos, and knew of my tattoo dude, too. Made me feel right at home. I'll be back in two weeks.

I went here a year ago because of all the great reviews.  I found it just okay.  The people were very nice and professional.  They were able to squeeze me in without an appointment.  They really are very busy.  It's a very butch atmosphere.  I felt too intimidated to ask for what I wanted, so it's really my fault.  Honestly, I'm pretty high-maintenance--who am I fooling?

For a barber shop, it's great.  But I wanted a new haircut and I think that's what salons are for.  The person who cut my hair was great.  I'm sorry I'm not giving them 4-5 star, but for me, with my personality and taste, it's a 3.

Great place for a quick trim or touch-up. I would not recommend this if you have medium to somewhat longer hair. But what would you expect at a barbershop, it's for shorter hair and shaves.

One of the best barbershops around.

Had been searching for a barbershop that did the hot shaving cream neck and sides touch-up since i have been in San Diego, what i found at Leftys was even better! best haircuts i have gotten in years! Don't waste your time going to any of the other hack-job haircut places in San Diego, Leftys is by far the best place for mens hair cuts.

Started getting my haircut by the owner, Brian, years before he managed to achieve his plan to open this place.  He said his friends always thought "WTF is up with this barbering thing your doing?"  Now they understand.  He and his guys know old school customer service, charge a fair price and take pride in their profession.  They give great haircuts, clean and neat no matter the style.  This is a man's place... tats galore; straight razors; and talk of sports, bikes, chicks and strip clubs.  Get it?

This shop is by far one of the more comfortable, and laid back places I've been to get a cut. I wear my hair in a pompadour, and trying to find someone who can give be a cut that helps my hair lay easily is neigh impossible.

I got a cut from Mitch, who is very skilled, and an interesting guy to talk to.

I think the attitude of Lefty's is easily summed up in what Mitch said when I told him the last person who cut my hair tried to give me highlights

"We wont try to sell you highlights here, We might give you a High-Life if there is one in the fridge though"

Also a good place to buy Layrite if you're tired of always having murrays in your hair.

Like everyone else says, it kicks ass.  They'll listen to what you want, talk about whatever, give you a killer haircut, and tease you about your bushy eyebrows (but then trim them for you.)

AJ was my barber, and I'll use him again.  Be sure to make an appointment.

Man, what to say about Brian and Brent,  fantastic men and a fantastic haircut. You will be blown away by how awesome this place is, I guarantee it. If your dad ever took you to an old school barber, you went with your grandpa or you just appreciate the "see me, do me" haircut, these boys deliver!

Stepping into Lefty's takes you back to a time when men were men and looking good gave you a certain confidence and satisfaction. I moved to Riverside for a 6 months 2 years ago and would drive down to the PB shop to get a haircut. That's how good it is!

The prices are great, the conversation and atmosphere is fantastic. It gets no better than this, men. Leave the ladies at home and go experience Lefty's, you will never go anywhere else. Turn your cellphone off too!

I can put up with a lot, but one thing I can't stand is bullshit.  Especially when it's coming from someone who's lining me up.  I gotta stay fly 'til I die, man.

Look, you're my barber - I don't mind if you tell me I have an oddly-shaped head.  It shows that you took the time to figure out that just dragging a clipper across my head won't do.  It tells me that you're an attentive master of your craft and I can rest easy that I'll come out looking clean.  If you're going to stand there and tell me you didn't have a hard time working on my head, I'm gonna know you're full of crap.

So imagine my relief when Mitch at Lefty's told me "Yea, you've got a kinda egg-shaped thing going."  It felt good to finally hear someone other than my mother - who was a certified barber - tell me that.  It also helped that I was getting a lot of compliments about how clean and non-bulbous my head looked.

Simply put, I've never left the barber's chair at Lefty's not looking like a million dollars.

For the most part, this place is by appointment only.  You might get lucky if you drop by and someone has canceled, but don't count on it.  This shop is very busy and for good reason.

All of the guys are super cool and never rush your hair cut or shave.  While you wait you shoot the bull and sip a beer.  It's old school quality at a fair price.  This is the only place I will get my hair cut in SD.

If you do have some sort of emo, femme, or hippy hair, then this might not be your place, but Lefty's is a great place for a Real Man's haircut and shave.  Mitch is definately the Master craftsman of the P.B. location.  A true perfectionist!  Just make sure you call a few days ahead for an appointment as there is no way you can just walk in and have him cut your hair or give you a shave.  It is great to know that there is still a place where men can be men.

Thank you YELP!!! The reviews before mine have forever changed my life. Why? Because I found Lefty's! This place is awesome and I can finally feel like I have a place to go when I need a haircut. It's amazing how a simple thing like a haircut can be such a fulfilling experience. I thought I would forever be forced into a life of stupid women salons and overpriced hair product marketing but finally I'm free!

I'm not sure what more there is to say other than what others have already talked about. Basically, it was the best haircut I've ever had. They're so meticulous and each detail around the ears and back of your neck are trimmed using a flat blade. The stuff they use after (i guess old bay rum from what the other post stated) smelled fantastic! My girlfriend was literally sniffing me all day after that.

Overall, it was just the best experience I could ever ask for and I will continue to go here. Like others have said... if you're a guy, do yourself a favor and go to a REAL barbershop!

Only thing I could wish for would be a cheaper shave. I have yet to try it, but for $16 I can't imagine I will. If it was like 5 bucks extra it would be a no brainer.

Great Barbershop!
When i was growing up my older brother would always take me to the exact same old school barbershop... Bub cut my hair as long as I can recall.

When I moved out to CA 12 years ago, I searched in vain for a place like that, but to no avail... even shaved my own head for 7 years...till I found Leftys 12 months ago.

They are truly, Old school barbers that KNOW their trade and the way with a straight razor.. mellow atomosphhere, good guys all around

Call ahead, don't expect to be able to walk right in, anything worth doing/having is worth waiting or planning for. I'll warn you though, once you're a regular, you'll never go anywhere else

I have been in Barbershop withdrawal for over a year. When I lived overseas I had a great barber in Hong Kong and Dehli. Real barbers, who knew how to cut hair, shave you, and give you your space. They where punctual and very professional. I looked both in TJ and in SD for something similar, spent a lot of money and was sadly disappointed. Until today, I found AJ at Lefty's... Punctual, professional and gave a great haircut... This will hopefully be a regular twice a month appointment for me... This is not a vidal sasson that'l color and gel your hair to extinction. This is for an old fashioned shave and a haircut (not two bits but very reasonably priced).

I tried this place today based upon the reviews and it was awesome. Not only is it a cool place, they are friendly, very reasonable and give you a 20-30 minute hair cut. What I liked is that they didn't rush and were very detail oriented.. It's been years since I found a place that actually took pride in their work.. The beer during the cut was a nice added touch as well :-)

Forget the Super Cuts and cheap hair cut stores where they get you in and out in 10 minutes.. Try them and you'll be hooked! $16 cut!!

Sure, listen to all the other reviews, they're dead on. Lefty's Barber Shop does it right. Sharp haircuts, good music, but most of all cool (and talented) barbers. There's a reason you might have to make an appointment to get in for a cut- attention to detail, straight blades, right on prices.  The way a barber shop shoudl be.

There's no reason to go anywhere else. Even if you don't want to come to PB for whatever reason, it's worth it for a stop at Lefty's.  I hunted around for barbers in SD for the past five years until I tried out Lefty's as a walk in.  It's funny- this barber shop now has a following. For a reason.

Remember when you would go to the barber shop with your father or grandfather, the one with the candy-stripe pole on the sign out front? This is the place Dad went. Grandpa too.

Lefty's is a shop where you can expect the kind of service and attention that is uncommon today. It is a place where a man can go for a shave and a haircut, with no BS, no top-40 hits blaring, no posters of impossibly happy hairstyle models on the walls. Sports on TV and magazines that you might actually read.

Just  a straight-up haircut and a proper shave, with a straight razor and a hot towel. Pomade if you like. You owe it to yourself to get a haircut at Lefty's. Tell B. that Snowrider sent ya!

I've been following "Lefty" since he was over in crown point next to Rocky's, now he has his own shop right on Garnet in P.B.  Perfect!!
He's making his dream shop come true and you need to be a part of it.  Excellent magazine selections, clean shop, TV for all those mid-summer classics, and always finishes off with the straight-razor... priceless!
