Ask yourself: Do I want to go to a diner with huge (seriously huge) portions, great waitstaff, and go home full with a take-home box just about as full as my stomach?
Yes? Leena's.
I've been here for breakfast several times and it's been busy but not super-crowded; portions are big, prices are good, waitstaff friendly, food delicious. Standard diner fare done right - try the cinnamon rolls, and make sure you don't try and cram too many people in a booth - you'll need that room for all the plates coming your way. Definitely one of my favorite breakfast spots.
Last night we went for dinner, and it was packed. We were seated almost immediately though, and I'm pretty sure we were two of about four people under the age of 30 in there - by a comfortable three decades or so. I thought this was hilarious and awesome.
I got the meatball submarine sandwich. It came cut in three pieces. Two of those pieces would be a huge sandwich anywhere else, but no, there were three here. It had a side dish of meat sauce and also came with french fries which had to be on a separate plate, because the sandwich and meat sauce filled the whole plate - and it was a big plate. Absurd, perhaps? Maybe. But it reheated quite nicely the next day for lunch.
Just as an aside, there's some genuine Good Thinking going on here with how they serve these items. The meatballs are sliced in the sandwich so it's easier to eat, the side of meat sauce for dipping lets you keep the bread toasty and yet still get a lot of meat, tomato, and cheese per bite. I very much appreciate the extra effort.
Several of the dinner items come with soup or salad, main dish, and ice cream for dessert. Yet the prices are low enough you'd think they were just for the main dish. Value per dollar is very high here, and everyone working there is infallibly polite, food is good. Appropriate for all ages, as long as you're hungry.
Leena's pretty much makes everything and makes it fairly well. I've been here a couple times--ordered their sandwiches/burgers and their breakfasts.
It seems to be a popular stop for the elderly and trendy young people. :) The gals working there are nice enough, their attention ranges from over-attentive (in a good way still) to un-attentive (but there are always a few walking around so it's easy enough to call someone over).
This last time I ordered their North City Omelet which has hash browns rolled inside! I like food rolled in the food. I was ravenous, so I inhaled the whole thing when normally it's probably more than one person should eat. Heh. Afterwards, I felt like I ran a marathon, does anyone else get that feeling? Anyway, the hub order the Wonderbird sandwich which had tasty baked turkey slices (not deli) and it was pretty good. Nice size of fries as well.
We saw their cinnamon roll as it was being delivered to a booth of cheerful elderly ladies, and ordered a couple to share immediately. They were pretty good, warmed up a touch too much, could have done for more icing and they had raisins which was a nice touch. Hm, I kind of want one right now...They had a nice display case of various pies which looked absolutely delicious.
Decently priced too, 4 entrees plus the cinnamon rolls was $40 which included the tip.
They are located conveniently in north Seattle, on 15th, and have a large parking lot! Free parking thrills me, even if we aren't in prime Seattle. I'll probably be back, it's in the rotation of a certain set of friends I sometimes hang with..if I'm with them, we will go here. Until then, thanks.
Very modern decor for the small and nearly hidden "cafe". The food was only decent. I wasn't disappointed per say but I was definitely not impressed. I think I was most irritated by lime green Ikea coffee cups that looked cheap and cheesy and fit no where in the color scheme.
In addition, the bakery part of the Cafe is pretty much non-existent - so if you have your heart set on a piece of pie, forget about it and go to Shari's; they always have pie.
I've been here against my better judgment countless times (seriously, at least 20?) because my elderly grandparents live a block away and shouldn't drive too far these days. So we meet up here for lunch when my dad is in town. I always leave with a stomachache and feeling gross. I've had nothing here that I thought was good, and it usually involves a layer of grease. Think of it as an indie Denny's. For some reason, the old folks can't get enough, but I can't really call it real food. Their meat in particular always looks suspicious to me, and I stay far away from it.
The service is okay, but they always seem spread thin and stressed.
But... I'll give 'em an extra star since my dad loves their tuna melts and my grandparents always enjoy it. *shrug*
Talk about a great remedy for any ailment. Leena's is my savior. I usually get my orders to go. The daily special is never more than 8 bucks. The bacon omelet is the truth. Sourdough toast is hats off.
You're gonna have to face it you're addicted to Lee-na's.
My roommate and I have been here twice, in the past two weeks. Both times on a Sunday, when the crowd was hopping. I can't believe how busy this little diner is! Which brings me to my one and only reason on giving it four stars; both times it has taken us a little too long to get our bill when we were done with out meals, otherwise things have been five star all the way!
I've now had breakfast, and lunch here and while it's pretty standard diner food, there's something charming about this place, and the people who work here. The first time we came, for breakfast, our waitress was a darling little old lady.
They've done their best to spruce the place up a bit, if you're an Ikea lover, you'll recognize some of the decor, but I don't think it's necessary. The food, and the service, and the fact that the place is always packed really speaks for itself.
If you're in Shoreline, and you need some good grubbin' any time of day, Leena's is the place. See you Sunday Leena's!
Ate here for a late lunch. Wasn't crowded at all by 3-5pm. Had gyro and fries. Fries were crispy and light. The gyro (sliced gyro balls) was chock full of tomato and onions. Bring your appetite. Very filling. Generous portions, reasonably priced. Ambiance is waay better than Flo-anna's. Most of all, very nice waistaff. Total sweethearts.
Good for: diner feel, daily specials
Imagine waking up Saturday morning and looking for a place for breakfast. The restaurant must be able to accommodate a 15 month old and a 7 year old child and two parents. Child friendly comes into mind and a good variety of breakfast food. Leena's is the place. We stopped in and the place was packed but a table became available shortly and we were seated. The menu was terrific for both kids and parents alike. My son had his eggs, pancakes and most importantly bacon. Myself anytime I can have jalapenos with my breakfast it is a great start. The pancakes were terrific and fluffy. The pricing was absolutely terrific and service was good also. We do not live real close but we would be coming back to Leena's.
Decent food at decent prices.
I wasn't super wowed with the food, it is standard diner fare. I have tried the club sandwich and french fries, pretty tasty. My brother in law loves Leena's and he swears by their burgers. I cannot vouch for them.
With the limited choices in Shoreline, Leena's is a good choice. Take your grandma! She would love it!
Yum, yum, yummers....
A solid breakfast choice if you find yourself on the eastern half of the City of Shoreline. Leena's Cafe serves up a quick and tasty breakfast that will fill most everyone's needs.
The coffee is Farmer's Brothers, which back in the day was the bomb, as industrial coffees go, pre-Charbux$. It was rich, black, hot, and it worked it's magic to get me going.
I had the chicken fried steak special, it saved me a few cents from the regular menu. Eggs were perfect, hash-browns were done just enough, toast was nicely buttered, the chicken fried steak might have been from a store, it didn't seem homemade, but it was still decent enough. And a good ladle of gravy topped it all off to perfection.
A nice clean choice to fill your early morning pie-hole needs.... service was outstanding and the kitchen was quick!
Leena's cafe is very good food.
I like to go there with my fiance,my Mom, my Aunt Kathy and friends.
We are a fan of Leena's cafe.
The quality of the good,
Good customer service.
So worth going again
Excellent breakfast! The pancakes are humongous, the bacon doesn't shrink down to the size of a pencil, the hash browns are crisp, and the white sausage gravy is mighty fine. The service was fast and friendly, and the place was packed on a Sunday morning - good sign. Leena's is worth a trip to Shoreline!
The honey and I were in the mood to get some breakfast before doing some errands in North Seattle/Shoreline. Yelp helped me out by bringing up Leena's so off we went.
We were seated promptly and our drinks were brought out almost immediately. Leena's has very nice decor for a family owned diner and a reasonable menu. Nice mix of families, couple of younger hip people, older people, seemed to be the place for the whole neighborhood.
I got the Veggie omelet with ham and the honey got steak and eggs. Both were larger servings but not so large that you half to be wheeled out of the place (read: smaller than the insultingly huge proportions of say, The Cheesecake factory)
The honey's steak was a tad overcooked but his eggs and hash browns were perfect. My omelet was really great but prepared more as a flat trifolded scramble (i.e. the ingredients were mixed all the way through the eggs and the cheese was in the center) but honestly it was great. The food was good diner fair, the veggies in my dish were still crisp and nothing on my plate was dripping in grease.
Coffee and water refills were prompt and our waitress had a great sense of humor and checked in often. My only issue is that while my dish was great their menu is a little limited and there is a notable lack of Benedict options. So minus 1 star because I love me some Eggs Benny. Other than that I'll definitely come back if we're in that neck of the woods.
Leena's is a place that my 91 year old grandma took my sister and I to eat at a while ago. They are a cute, no frills diner with excellent service and loyal elderly patrons. The food is good, and the prices are great!
My friend and I just went there today and we both had the creamy chicken noodle soup! Our food arrived almost immediately and the waitress was very sweet!
This is a great place to get nourishing, down-home food that won't break the bank!
I have been going to Leena's for years on an occasional basis. It's always been consistently good food and service. I don't think I've ever had anything that was sub par.
Try the wild Greek salad. Warm chopped grilled chicken, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, Kalamata olives, nice light dressing. Warm freshly made pita bread. It makes a great lunch even for two.
Breakfasts are very good as well. Efficient and friendly waitstaff. No slackers or attitudes here.
Love Leena`s great food . Open`s like @ 7am always busy closes @ 8pm. lunch & dinner are great . People there make you feel like your comming home for a home cooked meal . Breakfest is the best !
Leena's is my favorite neighborhood breakfast place. I honestly have never been there for lunch or dinner, but the menu looks pretty tempting! Greek-owned and Greek-inspired, the food is remarkably consistent and always yummy. I find myself there just about every Sunday, ordering the Crazy Greek Scramble. So tasty! Craig D is a man after my own heart.
The service is really what makes this place shine for me. The waitresses are all pros and really know how to handle a busy restaurant. Which is a necessity, because on the weekends this place really packs out. Yes, there are loads of old people, but there are also a good number of high school and college age kids, along with young families. Leena's takes all!
I HIGHLY recommend Leena's if you are looking for a great breakfast place in the North end. I'll let you know about the lunches and dinners after I give it a try.
A little bit of everything for everyone, Leena's is my choice when visiting my Shoreline-bound brother. The service is decent, food is fresh, and you will not be left feeling hungry.
From breakfast food, to lasagna with a side salad, I have not had a bad experience here. Just good diner food and good company.
If you're in Shoreline and hungry, give Leena's a try.
I like the restaurant and the food. It's a bit pricey but hey. It's worth it.
I miss diner food, and Leena's is a typical diner, but with much nicer ladies who get your order. Fast, will plop down on the seat next to you and chat you up while you make last minute decisions, and will even box up your rib bones for a certain canine member of your family. I also like that I can get an omelette for dinner.
Leena's is our weekly spot. We pick breakfast up to go at least once a week, and use the leftovers in our own scramble combinations the next day. Our favorites are: Vasilli Omelette, Veggie Scramble (plus bacon), and the Loco Loco Scramble. Breakfast is served all day.
The Beefeater sandwich is AWESOME. Roast beef, grilled onions, melted cheddar cheese, on thick slices of grilled 9-grain bread.
The servers are super friendly. It's funny to watch them trade jokes with the patrons, especially the old guys who hit on them.
They have cool moveable booth separators that instantly turn a 2-seater into a 4-seater. You just have to see it for yourself!
Leena's is in the site of an old drugstore in Shoreline (yep, we've lived here awhile), but you wouldn't know it now. After a couple of remodels and expansions, Leena's has become a place all its own with a downhome feel, expansive menu, and top-notch service. Although there are typically a few blue-hairs frequenting the place (there are assisted living facilities near-by) they're usually better behaved then me after I get my mitts wrapped around one of Leena's Crazy Greek Scrambles. Mmmmmm, Crazy Greek Scramble....
Homecooking with a Grecian twist. Leena's serves some of the best (and biggest) breakfasts in the North End of King County. For lunch, the giros are messy and delicious. (I'm getting hungry just thinking about it)
No late night dinners but they are open till around 8 pm so get there early enough to try the daily special.
Oh. And don't forget fresh made pie for dessert!
Another favorite of my grandparent's, who have been around long enough to know the owners almost since they opened the place--I think it's named for their daughter.
Anyway, the food is really good and the helpings are pretty big. Not a lot of vegetarian fare, but if you're not vegan you can always go for a nice big helping of pie!
The food is very good; the service is excellent. Leena's caters to everyone, but sort of more of a senior citizen clientele, because there is an assisted living facility right behind the restaurant. The thing that really impressed me is, when the electricity went out after the blizzard last winter, they were still doing their best to provide hot meals to the seniors and to the whole neighborhood. They could've closed the restaurant early, or even took advantage like alot of businesses do, but they did not. The wait staff were busting butts to make sure everyone there was warm and well-fed before they went back out in the cold.
