i used to know this place as teh 24 hour pho place because even tho technically they post hours i think, they really dont close until theres no more customers and they open pretty early for a pho place also. used to always come here as the after club eating spot or sometimes when i used to live in Santa Cruz we'd just make the drive over the hill for Pho.
the thing i most clearly remember about this place is the bowl of fat i used to order on the side. GET IT!!! it definitely enhances the flavor of the Pho
oh yeah, you never need to worry bout drama breaking out late at night here. theres always 2 cops posted here everytime i come just chillin at one of the tables
There is only ONE word to describe this place. DIRTY.
I've been here quite a few times during different times of the day (deadtime during the day for lunch, a madhouse on Saturday nights and everything in between) and every time I always find either: a dead fly in my drink, or a hair in my food. REVOLTING!
However, this pretty much is the go-to place for food when everyone else is closed. They are literally open 22 hours a day.. sometimes they open longer... it depends on if there's a lot of people or not. I've ordered Pho, Chow fun, Shrimp and broccoli. This place has a variety of Chinese/Vietnamese dishes and it will satisfy your late-night food craving. I wouldn't come here otherwise.
If only this place was cleaner.... is it THAT difficult to keep flies out of the drink?
This place is filthy as f*ck.
A bro in my fraternity back in the days wrote a Yelp review about this place serving "thumb soup"... about how the servers hold the bowls with their thumbs on the INSIDE of the bowl, getting gently splashed by the broth.
I had a bad experience here in the daytime once with my mom. Apparently the bad pho isn't restricted to 2-3 AM lol. They served me a #1, but the broth tasted like a can of Swanson Chicken.
I don't think in my most desperate hour would I ever come here again unless I was stranded in San Jose around Tully and had ZERO other options and was peer pressured by friends to go.
I got a lot of funny memories with this place and I think it's hilarious how all these Vietnamese San Jose cops hang out there knowing nearly everyone at 2 AM has driven there drunk out of their mind (but they don't care apparently). I'm betting the owner hooks them up in exchange for them keeping the place safe. I remember hearing that Lee's Noodle House got shot up once or twice by some Viet gangs.
Crazy.. but anyway I'm never coming here again. Beef Noodle #1 or Pho Y #1 for me! That's the best you can get folks hands down. I got some friends that swear by Pho Bang nearby on the corner of Tully... but hey all I got to say is that place is the best on Tully NOT the best in San Jose.
CASH ONLY BY THE WAY. You don't know how many times I forgot to bring f'n cash and had to use that POS ATM in the corner!
After hanging out at Santana Row, my friends and I were hungry. Hmmm... what's open at 2 am? Lee Noodle House! It's one of a few Vietnamese places open late night.
I had the shaken beef with fried rice. It was gross! It was tough, chewy, and had a weird color to it.
Next time, I'm sticking to IHOP or Denny's for a late night snack.
Should try the dry noodle Nam Vang. It's great though
The two times I came here, it was because of late night cravings.
Decent Pho. I'm a minor so I trip out and yet still try to keep my cool when the police come in to ...watch? Lol The police are cool though. Usually late night, its filled with people coming back from the club etc.....yeah. It's ok though.
What is it with peoples' fascination with Pho when blitz-drunken tanked out of your mind? I have come to realize that my friends, when intoxicated, prefer these specific criteria when choosing a place to eat post 2 a.m.:
- The parking lot should have multiple cigarette butts, bubbly loogies and spit, and other items which should adhere to the bottom of your shoe before entering the chosen place for eating.
- The place must feel greasy, everything from the first door handle to the utensils left out on the table to the chairs and the tables themselves.
- It is absolutely necessary that we run into the same strangers we ran into at the bar or club earlier.
- The waiter/waitress should not have to learn english, as it is rude for the customer to have to enter a place and not be able to properly order dishes by their proper names.
- The sink, and sometimes the toilet, should be caked in vomit, reminding you of what time of night it is.
- The ambience of the place must be that of a prison. You should have to walk around with your eyes glued to the ground so that you don't accidentally start a fight with awkward eye contact commonly mistaken as a fight initiation.
- The ability to be able to accept Credit Card is not necessary (especially since you probably blew a wad of all your cash at the bar earlier).
Once all this criteria is met, welcome to Lee Noodle House.
Been going to this location for years. Back in the day when I used to go clubbing, hang out late with friends. This was the place to get your Pho' on. My good friend always came here when she was getting any signs of feeling sick. Poof she'd feel better after eating a bowl here with added spices. The prices are super cheap, big portions.
Minus one star for the lack of English. I mean after all these years in America, and with a business, they still can't answer your questions. They only understand numbers. Sad. But this won't stop me getting my Pho' here. Oh yeah cash only!
Open late! Open *really late! The pho is ok, but there are lots of other foods on the menu. As mentioned by a fellow yelper, we asked what the difference was between a large and small dikon cake...there is no difference except the price! So..duh, small FTW! But it wasn't that good, so actually it was a fail.
Besides that, it's a good option as a place to eat when everything else is closed.
Last night, some friends and I were in search of filling a void in our lives: late night pho!
We all had the craving for it, but nowhere in Oakland or Hayward area has any pho places open super late. Lucky for us, Lee is open until three in the morning, seven days a week!
We made our trip down to the spot, not far from the 101 which makes it easy to get to, and not hard to find. We walk inside and find its your run-of-the-mill noodle shop. It was a bit boisterous, but its expected when its 2am and there are tons of drunk club goers grubbin.
I didn't have anything except the Pho Dac Biet, and it was delicious. The soup base was damn tasty, and it was loaded with tons of noodles and steak. The service was adequate, but the food was amaaaazing. I'm not sure if it was cause I had the pangs, or if it was really THAT good, but I'll definitely be back to try it again. The price was set right: $5.XX/small, or $6.XX large.
I subtracted a star because I felt like every other table was getting tons of attention, and I didn't even get a refill on my water. Also, its a bummer that they don't accept anything but cash.
3-stars, no more no less.
- OPEN LATE (life savor after a night out drinking and dancing)
- Plenty of seats/tables... altho the place was crowded around 2am on Sunday (Labor Day weekend)
- The food did its job. I was stuffed.
- Our order took unusually long... (man, it doesn't take that long to throw the noodles into the pre-made broth... wonder what was up.)
- $15 for two plus tax and tip.
Cheap, fast, filling, and open late (the best part...)

FOOD:
1.) Dikon Egg Cake = hm not really what we were expecting, kinda fluffier than the regular root cakes like from the dimsum places.
SERVICE:
Hella funny, we asked the server what's the difference between the small and large, and he straight up says No difference. haha wtf. Well uhhh then I guess I'll get the lower priced one....

-Cash Only
-Sometimes the ATM Machine "Runs out of Money" but you are still charged with the processing fee..
-ONLY COME HERE when you are intoxicated because coming here sober is a huge "wtf" eye opener experience (Did it once.. really weird)
-Cops galore now if you are come late though.
-GOOD beef stew! haha I think its #63 or #64
-like everyone says, its open late
BUT you know its bad when the whole time my drunkass thought this place was called: "Lee's Sandwiches and Noodles"
hahahaha
This place is ONLY good for late night cravings esp after a night of drinking and nothing will satisfy your hunger. Just make sure you get here before all the clubbers get out so you get yourself a seat cuz it gets packed!
The pho here is not bad and I would also recommend the 57D which is grilled pork and prawns over rice. Those two always hit the spot but NEVER the service. They are always rude (to employees and customers) and overcharge their customers. Last time the 5 of us came here and order pho and rice plates. With pho being $6.25 each rice plates around $8, and no drinks they were able to charge us $53 for 5 people. When asked for a receipt, the lady got annoyed and told me it was not working. =/ FTL? I think so
To sum things up, eat as a late night pho option after clubbing or if you enjoy sitting on the toilet on your leisure time
Ok- This place always has me torn.... sometimes the food can taste really good... depending on what you order. But the service has had me walk out several times.
The language barrier seems to really get in the way of ordering your food the way you want it. Be prepared to just know the number and not ask for any subsitutes or anything. I've had to walk out because no one can understand what I want.
I've even had them follow me outside and continue to ask why I am leaving, even though I am telling them why, they still do not get it. This has caused for some akward times.
I do love the chicken pho here though and the fried egg rolls. The vermacelli with BBQ chicken was a little odd.. the noodles stayed in one big clump and the chicken was loaded with fat. I honestly do not know what part of the chicken that was, opposed to Khanhs on winchester, I know im eating white chicken meat with no fat, which I can appriciate. The rice plated here though are very good, i love the shrimp and pork plate, everything is seasoned very well.
I tried this place again yesterday because I was craving egg rolls and I ordered the chicken pho to go and asked the lady at the counter to make sure they include chili sauce and hoisin sauce and she insisted it will have all the sauces with it, because they do not know who wants what, so they put it all. So I let it go. Of couse when I went home there was no sauce which caused my soup to me very bland.....
As far as Lee Noodle goes... I will only come here if I am drunk... or if I cannot drive to Khanhs for Pho and I need a quick fix. This place is not my first stop and I really think they need to look at all these terrible reviews and take them into consideration, that obviously they are doing something wrong and if they cleaned that place up (exspecially the kitchen.... ooooooh yeah we can still see back there people!!) and had better customer service, they would have a more sucsessful business.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!
I don't know about all those haters out there, but I've been going to Lee Noodle House for maybe 6 years. I have never been overcharged and I think the food is always good! The basil and sprouts and jalapenos are always fresh too! (that is my vietnamese food test :) ).
I talk to the owners every time I come in and they are very nice to me...but it *is* fast food. That is both good and bad. If you want ambiance, tableclothes and a waiter who kisses ur butt, then this is not the place, but if you want good Vietnamese food fast, you can't beat Lee Noodle House. They may seem rude when you first sit down because they want your order right away--they don't give you time to think. So, I suggest you get a takeout menu or decide what you want beforehand. The other side to that is that you don't wait around for the food to come.
If you can eat spicy food, then I *highly* recommend the Beef Sate Pho! "Hieu Tu Sate", or something like that...it is the best! It has chopped peanuts and seasonings and is not common for most other Pho houses. There is also a dish made of BBQ Beef wrapped around scallions and served over rice--something like #86...TASTY!
Don't forget the desert menu and the drinks. Pearl drinks, Vietnamese coffee and FRESH AVOCADO SMOOTHIES!
For good, fast Vietnamese food at a reasonable price, you can't beat Lee's!
Nothing like ending a night of clubbing like a bowl of Pho...
Menu:
Items on the menu are that of a typical Pho shop. You have your Pho with choice of white or yellow noodle and meat (rare round steak, tripe, flank steak, seafood, etc), there's also rice and noodle dishes. Nothing special about this place's menu.
Drink:
Different smoothies, teas, and pearl drinks. If you want water, you have to ask for it as you order your food.
Price:
Typical Pho prices here. Its cheap. Way cheaper than going to Denny's or Ihop after the club. The only downside is they are cash only.
Service:
The service at night is decent. If you speak Viet or with someone that does, it makes for easier faster service. When it comes to service whilst with the after clubbing crowed, I've got to tip my hat to the workers. They keep their cool with so many noisy drunks. A few of them even smile and give ok service.
Ambiance:
I can honestly say I've only eaten here at night (quick dinner or post clubbing), so I don't know what it's like during the day. If you get here before 1:30am, the place is fairly quiet with plenty of seats. If you get here after 1:30, it gets pretty packed and noisy. The tables are arranged almost cafeteria style in long rows. So at night, you might sit right next to a complete stranger. Hope that he doesn't have BO. There's always plenty of drunks here on Friday and Saturday so there's usually SJPD hanging out just in case.
Location:
Right off King rd, you can see the big red sign from the road before you even pull up to the parking lot. There's plenty of parking at night as nothing around it is open. During the day, the lot gets a bit packed.
I go here to their Chicken Pho and that is when it's is cold or when I'm sick. Their Taro shake isn't that good but their Taro and Flour cake are pretty impressive.
It's pho and i don't know what to write about soup. It's served hot and you add what you need to add and it's good for being a cheap place to eat. Why 3 stars? I've only eaten 5 things here of a list of 100 plus items to order. I can't give 4 stars to a place I've only tried 5 percent of their menu items.
if ur craving pho past midnight this is the place to be. this place closes really late. food quality is average. expect this place to be packed friday and saturday nights. this is a fav 'after club' destination for clubbers. lotsa skanks and wanna be gangsters.
i give this place 'B' for food and staying open late.
... and for the skanks ;)
Came here late last night after watching a musical in SJ. I remember coming here with my friends once before really late so I knew this was one location that would be opened. They are actually opened til 3am! Since it was about 10 mins away we came here to get a nice bowl of hot soup!
I ordered the 'bun bo hue' ($6.50 small) otherwise known as spicy beef soup- and it was delicious! I don't see this in many Vietnamese restaurants so whenever I see it, I always try to order it. It def helped me clear my sinuses- so hot and spicy! We also ordered the usual #1 combination beef pho ($5.95 small) - and it was pretty tasty. Soup had really good flavor. We also got the fried daikon cake with egg ($5.95 small) which was really yummy. The jackfruit shake ($3) was pretty good and refreshing - def helped when my mouth was on fire from my spicy beef soup!
Overall its not a fancy place at all. In fact it's kinda dirty and the service lacked. Its kinda like your typical hole in the wall pho place! Just wipe your utensils down before you use it..that's my rule of thumb always! Didn't have that many drunk club-goers because it was still early (11pm), but there was a decent amount of people there eating. The service could have been friendly but whatever, the food came at a decent time and was good. Can't expect a restaurant that stays open til 3am to be perfect.
The only good thing about this place is that it is open late.
The pho and service is okay. The restuarant itself seems dirty.
BEWARE of OVERCHARGES on your bill! This place always tend to charge me MORE than the bill should be everytime!! I think they think people wouldn't notice. When I ask them to explain why it is so much, they say for taxes, which is not true, bc it's too much to be tax! When I go with my boyfriend we usually get 1 small bowl of pho and a large one. The bill should be around $15 or $16 with tax AT MOST. But we usually have to pay $18 and some change! Ridiculous. I always have a calculator in my purse and my bill NEVER seems to add up correctly with them. Shaddy.
PHO noodles were not stuck together and clumpy!!! Man that's refreshing... Pho was pretty good and some of the food we ordered... um the service is not that great... let's see we were seated first and it took awhile for them to take our orders and then this chick walks in with pretty much with nothing on hahaha sure was a showstopper cuz all eyes were on her (cant hate) but damn if thats the only way to get good service then ioono there buddy cuz its pretty unfair that her food came out first and we got ours last =/
This place should probably only be visited post clubbing and preferably drunk. The food here is quite horrible, being sober only accentuated its crappiness. I can't believe there is such a horrible place in San Jose where the owners and workers are Vietnamese. I guess being the only place you can grab a bowl of pho at 3 in the morning gives it a monopoly, so of course there goes the concern for quality. My order of bun rieu oc wasn't even accompanied by the right garnishments/vegetables. It seems the only type of vegetables they will give you are the ones that goes with pho, which wasn't even fresh.
I say you're better off going to Denny's or even Jack-in-the-Box.
For those San Joseians, you know the deal.
I've been here a few times and they open pretty late. It's usually packed full of clubbers at night so you might want to come early to beat the crowd.
The pho here was alright and I would say it was better than pho from Pho Tau Bay but that's just me. It was $5.95 for a small and $6.25 for a large. They messed up on our order and gave us the wrong sizes... Other than that, this place was alright and nothing spectacular.
OMG, my friends always want to go here after we 'do da dancing' downtown. I guess its a bit better than greasy Chinese food or Denny's. It gets pretty packed after two so be nice to the server and he'll hook you up with a spot. Service is alright, anyone who orders noodles gets it in a jiffy but anything else take a little more time. The pho/noodles hits the spot if your pretty buzzed or drunk otherwise I wouldn't eat it, lol.
For the major drunkies out there, be careful cause there's always five-o hanging out there and grabbing a bite to eat so watch yourself :P
I guess there's something wrong with my taste buds since I freakin' love this place! haha!
I love the fact that this place is always open when I'm craving some pho! They have the best fried rice ever! This place is good after a night of drinking. It sure beats Denny's.
You're bound to see somebody you know at this fine establishment. *harhar*
This place should stick a sign on their door that says... "DRUNKS ONLY!!"
I used to come here because I was the designated driver for some people. UGH. I am NEVER EVER going back.
They must put buckets of MSG in all of their food. This is the only place where you can actually leave MORE DRUNK. And no, it's not because they add alcohol to their food. The food here has too much of everything bad and too little of anything that won't make your stomach churn.
And the service here is horrible. And I've seen the waaaaay-over-40-years-old waitress at 1015 Folsom. O___O Can we say CREEEEEEPY??? *GAG*
I only go here for their pho and an order of chinese donuts. The atmosphere isn't all great due to the crowd this place attracts but as long as you don't get annoyed then you'll be fine.
Their bot chien is very good as well. I hardly order that elsewhere.
So this is the second time I've had pho in San Jose. All the hype about San Jose has the best pho due to it's large Vietnamese population is just that, hype. No offence, but the pho in Riverside was much better than the ones I have tried here.
The pho was better than that of Pho Bang, but it still did not meet my standards. The noodles were pretty good, but the broth itself was just okay. Further, there was barely any meat in my dish. It mainly consisted of the tendon. The shrimp and pork wrapped spring roll was smaller than the others I've had. Good thing there's always the peanut sauce that makes up for all of it. The seafood chowmein was also just okay. Nothing to rave about. The service was rather slow. But I can understand since it was a late night meal on a Saturday night, with a good amount of people inside. But they still should have come around once offering water without having to be motioned over.
Hubby said if I could give 0 stars, I should give it to Lee Noodle House. We went here today, craving Bun Bo Hue(Spicy beef noodle soup). Apparently nothing else was open at 10pm on a Saturday. Sigh.
There was no BBH on the menu. :( My heart really did sink. So instead, I ordered the hieu tieu lee dac biet kho (lee's special dry combination chow fun noodles) and convinced hubby to order pho ap chao (deep fried pho) to share.
The hieu tieu came out like iet was microwaved for too long. The sides of the noodles were curled up and hard. The sauce on top had a strong fishy oder as well as the shrimp. My hubby gagged a couple times when I was doing the Asian mom "just eat the meat honey" speech. So gross we had leftovers that we didn't take! No true Asian does that!
The deep fried pho ($7.99) was ok, but really stale. It tastes like they fry a bunch in the morning, and then just throw sauce over it before serving, instead of being fried fresh. Hubby said the meat in this tasted like they reused meat. He was certain of it, and wouldn't touch the meat on the plate either.
Drunk at 2am, it's a great spot. But sober and nursing a hangover at 10pm, not cool, whatsoever. I don't think I can ever come back here again. :( Sigh. Next time, it's Bay 101 for my Asian food fix.
The price for a large bowl is better than average at $6.25 but the portions are not that large. It does get crowded as they open pretty late. Good for business! This pho is actually below par though...
I can say this pho is the highest quality of the low quality pho's. lol.
I rarely ever eat here unless it's in the middle of the night & nothing else is open. A lot of people come here to eat after clubbin' since it's open SUPER laaate. I must say that the food doesn't taste bad or anything-- but then again, I think it's because most of the people who eat here late at night are either desperate for any real food or DRUNK.
I stopped going here after my friend found an unidentified bug in her soup.. I can only imagine what their kitchen may be like! I also hear that the boss is a jerk & all the tips left by customers go to him instead of the workers! =( The only good thing about this place is that it has the advantage of staying open until 4-5am? No other Vietnamese restaurants open that late.. OTHERWiSE! If you're eating around the area during the daytime.. skip this place & walk a few extra steps to Cao Nguyen =)
I use to go here often with friends and back then I didnt really have much to complain about however, I recently started to go again and unless I was in the mood for something Lee Noodle serves that the rest of the 1,000 Pho places around it doesnt, then they'll have my business.
They do over charge you FOR SURE! Best to go there by yourself so you can add up the amount for One. They charge more if you do take out orders. The owner is rude. The staff is rude and honestly I think they may be the type that spits in your food if they dont like how you look when you come in. Prices are REALLY high for Pho. They REUSE the beansprouts, and MEAT!! YEP REUSE ALOT OF THEIR FOOD~!!! Gross... Honestly, I wonder how the Health Dept. still lets them stay open for business.
Wouldnt suggest going there after you get out of the club because it will be jammed packed with a ton of older Vietnamese people who are coming out of cafe's or clubs.
Honestly, there are so many other Pho places to go to that are just down the street from here. Try those out over Lee Noodle.
Only good for late night drunken eating. Other-wise, I would not set foot in this place.
Dirty
Too much MSG
Greasy
Horrible Service
Not too cheap either
Very friendly late night service. I've been here about 5 times late night, post-clubbing meal and it closes at 3am. There's always 2 cops chilling at the door or eating here too which makes everyone feel safe too. The pho is solid, it's neither great nor nasty. The rice plates such as the com cha bi aren't bad at all. The food is very average. It's pretty cheap and good for late-night only. There are lot of better pho places for daytime dining though.
This place is only good for one thing.
Eating pho when it's late and you and/or your friends are drunk.
I think this place closes at 2am.
Decent pho for a cheap price. When you're drunk and you need pho, come here.
The service sucks. I always ask for a straw and each time, they forget to give me one. =[ Also the boss takes the tips away from the workers, so I've heard. What a b*tch.
But it opens late. Rice plates are inconsistent, but most of the time they are pretty good.
Ate pho here once only, and I don't remember if it was good or not. Probably wasn't the best, cause I would've remembered.
LOVE the hours though =).
I make it down to San Jose about once a month. My visits always include a trip to the nail salon and then some good eating with a friend or two.
My last trip was about a month ago, and I was taken to this place. I was asked what I wanted to eat...I simply said, something not heavy and cheap! I ordered the chicken noodle soup and egg rolls (I gave in...I know this wasn't light, but I changed my mind once I sat down). I'm usually pretty wary of ordering chicken soup at Vietnamese restaurants because many of them serve it with skin and bone still intact...something I'm not very fond of. When my bowl of soup arrived, I was pleased to discover the chicken to be skinless, boneless, and all white meat. Yay! My soup was quite flavorful and had just the right amount of chicken (so many places get skimpy with the meat). Egg rolls were a good size and not overly greasy. I'd return if I'm in the mood for some noodle soup in SJ.
Late night eats after partying is always good
