We like to stop in to taste whenever we roll through Sonoma.  Most of the time it's a little more laid back and quiet than tastings up at the castle, plus we get to pick up our Zina Hyde shipment.

Sam gave us a tour once, beautiful place.  They did a great job integrating the building with the theater and rest of the block.  It's really hard to believe that the building is so new!  I haven't had the opportunity to stay there, but hope to soon!!

Full disclosure:  I'm a Zina Hyde member and my girlfriend is a Ledson member...we're big fans of the wine!

The rooms in this hotel are very luxurious.  Lavish bedding, draperies, large oval spa tub that is open to the bedroom side, first class all the way.

This is the most up scale wine bar on the Sonoma Plaza. Travertine marble on the floors and walls. Some outdoor cafe tables in front. The fancy prices for wine and bar snacks pay for the decor.

The service folks are well dressed & behave formally. The clientele seen here are usually upper crust tourists. If you drive an expensive car and dress fashionably you'll be comfortable here. If you drive a junker while wearing  T-shirts & jeans, you'll be more comfortable next door at The Town Square Bar & Grill.

I've been here twice for cocktails and food. Nothing outstanding. The help is almost timid to admit that food is offered. It's a single page menu of small plate tidbits such as: Cheese plate, smoked salmon, iceberg salad wedge.

The draw here is the weekly live jazz music. The musicians are sometimes nationally known acts featured on smooth jazz radio stations. Admission runs $25 for the shows.

Everyone complains that the food is more expensive than it's worth - it's quite excellent when it's free!

Really a great venue for having tiny private parties - or at least all of the local industry seems to think so. Much like a girl and the fig, the venue gets overrun with crowds on the whole. The menu seems to have all the standard fare as the other restaurants in the region, but not as refined or flavorful - enough app variety to have gnoshing choices, a veggie, a meat, a pasta, sort of fusion but not quite. But I am to agree on value. Strong food dishes, but nothing astounding for the level they are trying to be...so would recommend going somewhere else on the square.

This is more of a lunch outside kind of spot.

This review is just for the $5 tasting.  As part of our day-long winery tour, we stopped in Sonoma Square for lunch.  Figures the best wine we'd have all day is that which we'd have to pay for.  But happily, the standard price ($5 for five tastings, $10 for ten) is a real steal here.  The wines are gorgeous, and you can taste the fancypants reserves or the "regular" stuff, all of which will be served with knowledge and grace.  Our server was easygoing and informative, and gave a generous pour.  The setting was just the right side of sumptuous.  If I had the money I'd happily come back and stay at the hotel but it's definitely out of my price range.  Unlike many places that charge a lot without delivering enough, I feel confident that whether you're going whole hog with a stay here or just stopping by for a tasting, you'll thoroughly enjoy whatever you're getting.

I came upon this place as part of my winery tour.  The staff that sets you up with the wine tasting do not like you very much when they know you are part of the tour.  I gave this place 3 stars because of its beauty and story behind the hotel/home.

1. When you are part of a tour, you don't have to pay the wine tasting fee that they like charging you and adding themselves a tip.

2.  When they said $25.00 please, my hubby pulls out the money and I told the guy, "wait a minute, we are part of a tour and it is included.  The snooty little f*cker says, "well than I will keep it as a tip".  What you assh*le......I am not giving you a $25.00 to do what you are already paid to do.

3. Hubby was embarrassed by his comment, so he let him keep $10.00  Well I am not embarrassed and I will tell you where to go and how to get there.  What a jerk off.

We ended up going to three other places and the wine tasted all the same.  I am more of a white wine drinker and they only had two at each winery for  you to sample.  If you are a red wine drinker that this city is the place for you.  But if you like white....then you'd better go elsewhere.

Great but gone.  (now a bar with a few small plates-untried by this reviewer)
Closed the first of the year, and the chef has moved to Australia.

This exhibited what a restaurant should be.  Tables well distributed, not on top of each other.  Chef without vanity, i.e., the'd prepare what you wanted to eat, not what they wanted you to eat.  Prices were high, but there weren't too many tables to pad their income, and you were welcome to stay as long as you wanted.

They're still trying to figure out what to do with the space.  Let's encourage them to open another restaurant.

My fiance and I ran across this restaurant on a walk through Sonoma Square.  The weather was nice and they had outdoor seating so we cancelled reservations we had elsewhere and sat down.  The Beef Wellington was fantastic.  The same goes for the wine selections.  The best part of this dining experience was the service.  The level of courtesy and professionalism extended to us far surpassed our expectations.

I love(d) this bistro for lunch from the time it opened until the sad day it closed :(  Everything about it screamed upscale wine country cuisine.  I always took my out of town girls there when they wanted a taste of Sonoma.  My husband liked it also, but the portions were rather small for a guy.  However, you can still get a small taste of the Harmony Club on the weekends with live jazz and small tapas!  It's better than nothing!  Too bad the locals didn't support it.  I think it probably was the hefty $$$.
