after doing much research online and talking to several different people, i asked my caterer for a suggestion for a wedding cake baker. he suggested le gourmet.
after reading a review or two online, i decided that le gourmet was the place to go for a wedding cake because they seemed to have something different yet tasty wedding cakewise. i went to what i thought would be a website with pictures. basically, it was just an email address. i set up a meeting with angie, the baker, and drove out to the land of the strip malls. anyways, le gourmet is in a non descript strip mall and is a tiny place. however, good things come in tiny packages. the place had customers even at 1 pm. post lunch. they serve sandwiches and salads apparently for lunch. also, they give out coupons to businesses in area too. smart move because they are next to some huge car parts warehouse. anyways, the pastry case is well stocked with things like fruit tarts, chocolate and almond croissants, eclairs, etc. my friend and i sampled a few of them. they were all very tasty. as far as wedding cakes, i did not want the standard dry cake covered in overly sweet buttercream frosting. what i got was a wedding cake done the french way. they take a layer of cake and slice it thinly and fill it with light cream between the thin layers. it makes the cake light and moist. i had a 3 tier with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry layers. i have to say the vanilla dn the strawberry were the best layers. the chocolate was good but most people at the reception raves about the vanilla and had seconds. le gourmet is a family owned business. both the husband the wife are the bakers. besides running their bakery, they have 5 kids. they need your support. they are small but they have a good product and are very cooperative. she will make whatever flavors you can imagine. so if you are tired of plain old standard thawed out buttercream wedding cake, try le gourmet. she makes the cake fresh and will deliver.
