Super romantic, cute French restaurant in the West Village. We had the oysters, bouillabaisse, and the crab cakes -- all of which I would recommend.

The space is very charming and warm. The night we had dinner, the weather was perfect (no need of having ac). The front door was wide open and early fall breeze were coming in. We sat at the end of table. The staff, who seemed to be completely at our service, was friendly and accommodating.

We ordered Crabcake to start. It was good but not excellent. Yes, there is no breading in the cake but so what? For Entree, we had chicken (That same day for lunch, I went to Torys on 53rd St. My friend had grilled chicken plate. The chicken was very tender and juicy and blending well with sweat sauce. It was yum!) I can't help but to compare the execution, taste and flavor and the prices of those dishes ($12 verses $28).  Another entree we ordered was roasted leg of lam. This too, had no flavor and taste. The sauce and the side were not helping at all. They were equally bland as the rest. I even added some salt and pepper but didn't help. We paid and left almost immediately.

The best, relatively unknown French bistro in the city.
I come back to this place every few months for the last 6 years and I've never had a bad experience. The food is always exquisite and unlike the usual french fare, it is never too greasy or heavy. The service is wonderful, the place itself is cozy and romantic without being cheesy. Best dish I've tried there yet is the Lobster Risotto- a creamy, fresh burst of lobster unami. Escargot are always extra garlicky and buttery. My friends swear that the French Onion Soup (I hate onions) is the best in the city. Warm chocolate cake and fiery banana for desert are the best opitons. And there are always specials available.

Everything is great except the food, sadly. I wanted to love this place. Cute homey vibe on a quiet street with friendly yet efficient service. Reasonable prices, wine by the glass about $8-12, entrees in the upper $20 range. Not that many menu choices, which had me thinking that all 8 main courses would be knockouts. Well, the duck was so-so. It was terribly under-seasoned, and pretty bland. The blandness stood out even more as the mashed potatoes were extremely salty. My friend tried a special, short ribs over pasta with aged shaved gouda on top. And it tasted as weird as it sounded. Not bad, just weird and not good. I was really disappointed, as I love Cornelia Street and love the sweet people who work at this restaurant and do a great job, but the food just is just ok, which doesn't seem right for the price and given the proximity of great places nearby (like Po, yum! even Centro Vinoteca and Perilla). But the vibe is very mellow and pleasant for a relaxing quiet dinner (Sun-Wed, tends to get a bit crowded towards the weekend).

Le Gigot is a great restaurant on one of my favorite streets in the Village. It's small, intimate, a little "worn in" so it feels a bit homey, with a cozy table at the front and cozy banquettes/tables towards the back. Maybe seats 45 people. The lamb was awesome, as you'd expect, well chosen wine list, great atmosphere. I went with a few friends from my global executive MBA program (TRIUM, check it out) who've eaten all over the world and they had as super a time as I did.

Highly recommended.

Very small romantic French Bistro. Delicious food with very warm and friendly staff. My 4th time here and I always get the crab cakes and french onion soup apps.

The crab cakes are the best ever. No breading can you believe it??  It is pure fresh delicious crab meat that melts in your mouth.

I usually always get the steak but I have to say not as good as Le Tableau's my favorite place by far that's why the 4 stars. But my husband got the roasted Quail which was out of this world, they even de-boned the tiny bird which was so cool because it was so easy to eat!

Overall, great food, very romantic. might be a little cramped for some people's taste but that  is the charm of it. It is also right next door to Pearl Oyster Bar so you can do a  take out  of fried Oysters my favorite (that is if you still have room for it)    =)

THE SERVICE & PLACE:
This is a super romantic place and the service/food was amazing.
I don't think food and service get much better in the world. The place is cozy but well lite. I think there were about 20 tables in the entire place, it wasn't very big and the bathrooms were nice which is critical for a 5 star review from me.

THE FOOD:
I had the french onion soup and the flat iron steak w/ pepper corn sauce. It was really amazingly good. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well...

This place was really a treat and set the tempo for the rest of the weekend. I highly recommend this.

Can I give negative stars? I would like the power to reach and and revoke stars given by other members. Do i respect other peoples opinions? Before today I thought so. No longer. This was the worst wallet draining meal I have ever had. Thank god they had good wine so I could hazily and politely deal with the situation.  I had the steak au poivre with pomme frites. Oh wait was I on candid camera and they forgot to tell me? The steak was the right cook by color, medium rare, but not by taste. Did they sear it yesterday and microwave it today? I am not sure but something was not right. I would have tried to douse it in ketschup but I was only rationed a thimble full.  The french onion soup was decent but c'mon its fucking french onion soup. The dinner party and I tasted each others dishes to try to find something worth eating and to validate, can it really be this bad? The poulet was poo-poo and like the steak not cooked correctly. The other meal was the lobster which was some ridiculous combination reminiscent of the time on top chef where the cook made ice cream with avocado and bacon and tried to serve it to little kids. Thank god for the scalding coffee so i could burn my taste buds and start over.

Oh and if you want to tell me the food was "french" and I just don't "get it" sniff sniff. I lived in Switzerland for four years, the french part. So don't even go there girlfriend.

By the by the waiter was a cranky piece of work.  Just to top off the evening. The bill came to $287.75, for four people.

So if your a masochist and would like this brand of torture, run to Le Gigot, don't worry you'll get a table.

We had an awesome Friday night dinner here.  The service was super attentive and laid back. Usually when there is only one waiter, service is spotty or frazzled, but John, was friendly and cool.  The environment is great if you are actually trying to have an intimate conversation while enjoying a great meal.

Food was amazing.  We started with a great tomato salad and oysters (from Pearl's next door).  Both were super tasty.  We had the lamb (tender and well-seasoned) and a lobster with saffron rissoto; we cleaned both plates.  The food had simple, but thoughtful flavor blends and presentation.  Basically, we had a great dinner that was relatively well-priced.  This place is a gem!

We visited again last Friday, and, nothing had changed.  The place was still great.
