mmm, I like this place a lot..which means I will be a repeat customer and bring friends here.
I had heard about this place about 6 months ago from a friend of mine, just now getting around to going and glad I finally did.
Went for lunch today with a friend.
Ordered:
~Dungeness crab stuffed piquillo peppers lightly fried and served with a tomato basil concassé concassé concassé concassée.
~Mussels L'espigoule with fennel pollen, cilantro, ginger, lime juice, white wine, cream and shallots.
~Roasted butternut squash with Balzebu 30 Year Balsamic
~Kennebec fries with aïoli aïoli aïoli aïoli
All of it was delicious..
Already looking forward to future visits.
The view is great and ambiance as well..
Greant ambiance, with the garage bay doors that open up to the sailboat beauty of the sausalito boat docks.
Service is great, nice wine list and outstanding food make it a place I will spend a lot of time.
The cheese plate, served with honey and fruit, is absolutely to die for.
The vegetarian lasagna is unlike any lasagna you may think of. Fresh, light, lots of veggies and totally delicious. It's hug yourself delicious.
You may not want to leave. That's how I felt. Fabulous restaurant.
Le Garage is placed right on the boat docks of Sausalito. Which in my opinion was a very smart move because hungry yatchters can step off their boat right into Le Garage.
On sunny Sunday we were greeted by a wonderful hostess who accommodated our somewhat large party that wanted to sit in the sun.
While waiting the guys ordered what I like to call the girly man drink.... a Monaco. Now a Monaco is Stella with grenadine. So basically pink beer. I liked it an started to gulp the bf's Monaco. He didn't really appreciate that.
Service was good and from what everyone else ordered it looked like they had tasty meals, as for me not so much. I ordered a chorizo omlett which wasn't very good to me but the bf's openfaced grilled ham and cheese tasted wonderful.
For a brunch it was pricey. For just the two off us with one drink each, food and tip the cost came out to 60 buckaroos. Eeeeeek....
Maybe if I had ordered something tastier I wouldn't have minded :-/
The atmosphere is great (industrial French right on the water, with an outdoor space to boot), and the food was very good. They did give our table away (we were 15 minutes late, but I called and was told that they were running behind too), but they did make an extra effort to be cheery in a kind of French disaffected way (and what's not to like about that). I liked it.
Chocolate croissants for breakfast, can't beat it. Lunch delicious and an incredible view. I always make a meal of the sides no matter what. It's so fun to nibble, chat, and delicious wines. Julie (say it en francais) is a breath of fresh air.
This place was so great! The food was excellent. we drove from San jose and got lost. They were closed and were going to turn us away but they were nice enough to seat us. Everything on the menu looked so good. The décor was cool too. I would totally go back.
What a great hidden little gem! It's not the easiest place to find but but well worth the search. Location can not be beat - especially on a warm evening when you can enjoy a glass of wine along the marina waiting for your table...sun setting behind Mt Tam... what's better than that? Oh you can order a cheese plate with your wine while you wait...so, yes it does get better....and then you have dinner...
The food: fresh and unique and amazing. Been there a number of times now and NEVER had a bad dish. Personal faves: Halibut, lobster salad, french fries. Something for everyone.
The service: Top notch! Natalie, hostess extraordinaire takes care of you the minute to get there. Guillaume behind the bar is very knowledgeable and always has great recommendations. Rest of the staff rocks too. For such a busy lively place - they have the right staff to diner ratio. And they accommodate special requests. We had a vegetarian with us one time and they made the squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese instead of crab!
Good stuff all around!
But as I write this glowing review, I am hoping none of you decide to go there because it's getting harder and harder for me to get a reservation!! :)
Friends have been telling me about Le Garage for weeks, so my husband and I gave it a try for Saturday brunch. The marina setting is beautiful, and we were able to get a table outside on the deck with the view of the harbor and Mt. Tam.
I have to say that our server seemed a little distracted and unfriendly at first, but as the meal progressed he became friendlier and very attentive - so all in all the service didn't detract from our experience. The food was fresh and delicious- it was hard to decide among so many interesting choices on the menu. And the finale - sipping our coffees afterwards, in the warm sun, listening to seagulls and watching the sailboats.
ok. I went back. 5 stars.
Impeccable service. The added amazing menu items. and it is all so amazing.
The highlights:
-Sweetbreads!! (if you dont know what it is, order it anyway and look it up after.
-The Cheese Plate!! (yummy. Cheese pairings with honey, fruit and a solid jam. delish.
-The Bread!! they got better bread.
-The Steak Frites - yummy...served with a creamy horseradish, could be spicier.

This was our third time eating at La Garage. The first time was breakfast and was so good we went to dinner a few weeks later.. and it too was really good too.
Yet sadly, last night was a different scene.
As usual, the place was buzzing and completely booked. La Garage sits literally next to a scenic Sausalito harbor overlooking sailboats and yachts. The morning is pleasant with seagulls chirping and its cool marine breeze.
Ok, getting back to last night.
We ordered Scallops on a bed of pasta and a pan seared duck entree. (last dinner I ordered a sumptuous duck confit).
The scallops were flavorful yet the pasta was stuck together and had little to no taste. The duck dish looked nice yet upon further examination it was over half fat.. another deal killer.
The French waiter asked how the meals were and I said mine was not that good. The waiter looked at me as if I was a changeling brought down from planet zenon. He asked if I wanted anything else and I kindly said no.
After a few minutes the waiter returned and said he would take the duck off the bill and then stated, 'some people like this duck dish and others like the duck confit..'
What's interesting in this comment is that the waiter shows no real interest in why I did not like my dish.
This meal pointed out something. Namely, that La Garage is not consistent. We'll return for breakfast and report our findings.
Bon Appetit,
Sam
Tuesday Night 8:30 pm.
The placed was packed.
We found a very chic older crowd finishing up their dinners and making room for the somewhat younger generation of diners.
If you are in the mood for fantastic food in a lively atmosphere, this is the place.
Instead of a more traditional dinner, we shared several appetizers at the bar with our beer and champagne.
Watermelon Tomato Salad
Crab Squash Blossoms
Kennebec Fries
Asparagus (Smoky Cheese & Olive Oil)
The agreed standout, Sweetbreads.
An added yummy tip- order the Fries and throw some in the Sweetbread Sauce!
We are coming back to try more, including dessert!
This is our new fave Sausalito spot.
After my review, the owner contacted me to ask if I would elaborate on my experience. I'm posting my response to him as a necessary addition to a negative review. Sorry it's long...:
Thanks for writing. I'll try to keep this brief:
In October of last year, I came in with a friend and my dog. I had been in numerous times before, all with my employer and her dog -- two weeks previous to this incident, in fact. We spied an open table outside, didn't see the hostess around and moved toward the table. When we arrived, the hostess appeared, told us there was someone waiting for the table and -- in a needlessly condescending way -- pointed off to the side and said that the dog would need to be kept over there.
As we turned to go sit and wait, I asked if that was a new policy. She said, "No, it's always been that way." I said that I'd been in two weeks ago and there were several dogs at the tables. She said, "No, this didn't happen." I pointed to a table, said that I'd eaten right there with a dog next to the table. Again, I was told, "This didn't happen."
At this point, I started to become agitated. I asked the hostess if she was calling me a liar. She said she wasn't. I told her there was no other explanation for what she was saying. I said that either she was calling me a liar or I had eaten two weeks prior with a dog at the table. She said AGAIN that that had not happened. At some point, a short, stout man appeared at her side, stared at me continuously and repeated over and over that I was a very rude man while the hostess and I talked. I could not believe this was happening. I felt like I was being pushed into a corner and (I admit not one of my finer moments) asked the large man if he "wanted a piece of me." It was at this point that I realized that this circumstance had spun out of control and I walked away.
A moment later a man came after us. (I believe he was the manager. I had seen him there on my previous visits and when I walked up before encountering the hostess had noticed him chatting with people I took to be his friends.) He immediately took a confrontational attitude with me, but when I briefly explained what had happened he said that she was relatively new, that an individual had complained to the health department and they couldn't allow dogs in the outside dinning area anymore. Though he was defensive of the hostess (incorrectly, because I had recognized her from my two most recent visits when dogs were allowed) I felt he had handled the situation well. That was all the hostess had to say to me, but she wasn't capable of it. I fully believe that -- well after the fact -- she felt like she had handled the situation correctly, that her job was to exert control over the diners and that that's all she had done.
Here's what it boils down to for me: waitstaff has no business -- under any circumstances -- calling a customer names and insinuating things about their character. I'm reasonable: I will accept 10% of the blame for allowing her to upset me. But I can't understand what she and the large man with her were trying to accomplish. As a person, what was I supposed to do when I was told I was a liar and called names? Was I supposed to act like a eunuch, and just go sit and wait? At that moment, I felt that it was important for me to at least try to challenge what was clearly an unprovoked verbal attack.
So, there you are. Upon getting your email, my first reaction wasn't to invest the time necessary to write you a thoughtful and truthful retelling of the story. However, you run a business, your livelihood rests on the restaurant and you are owed an explanation.
The owner wrote back, thanked me for taking the time to explain the situation and encouraged me to give them another visit. My response to him:
I appreciate your time and desire to understand why I as a customer was dissatisfied with your restaurant.
As to your suggestion that you hope I'd give the restaurant another try in the future: I hope you understand that I'm not a glutton for punishment and would certainly never spend money at a business where I was mistreated for no plausible reason.
I must tell you that I'm surprised that neither the manager nor you offered an apology (and I'm not asking for one now). For me, that further instills the mindset behind the incident: a lack of deference to others. If the hostess had thought for one minute that being courteous was above being in control (or whatever else was motivating her), the incident would not have occurred and I'd still be eating lunch at your restaurant. Unfortunately, she was not wiling to say, "Yes, that's a new policy." Instead, she felt it wiser to impugn my character. And it makes me wonder: Is it more important to not back down than simply defer? I'm not asking you to encourage your staff to take abuse. I'm asking that you encourage them to follow the basics of the service industry, to be deferential instead of confrontational.
Thanks for reading...

We visited Le Garage on a gorgeous Saturday morning for brunch. It's right next to the marina with a beautiful view. It's a really interesting setup for a restaurant (I certainly wouldn't have seen the space/area and thought "restaurant space"), but I can only guess it was chosen with particular consideration for the view. Inside has an industrial décor; we ate on the patio in front. I would say, definitely try to get a seat outside if the weather is cooperating.
Pain Perdu: A very tender, light brioche. The three pieces of brioche were plated nicely. The crème fraiche was very smooth and fresh. It contrasted the berry compote well. I would say it still left me pretty hungry though. It's a good thing I mooched and had some of the....
Oeuf a la Coque: The softboiled eggs were cooked perfectly. The mouillettes were ever so subtly truffle-scented, with little bits of black truffle in it. The proscuitto paired well with the mouillettes, but the asparagus was a bit too charred for my taste.
Also got a latte, which comes in a gigantic cup (it's really more like a bowl, as it has no handle and you have to hold it with both hands. Fun with food!).
There is a parking lot, but make sure you park in the correct one. When we were there, apparently people were getting ticketed because they parked in the permit area. Park in the back lot (you know, where all the signs point to).
The service was okay. Adequate without being oppressive, but I wouldn't say super friendly either.
I would come here again, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
Fun and delicious.
The small plate menu was too hard to decide from everything looked fantastic. We had the heirloom tomato salad and the white corn and lobster salad. Both were fantastic full of flavor and seriously embraced summer. The formage plate and dungenous crab stuffed in blossoms dishes passed by us several times and looked amazing.
The entrees were very generous in portion and richly decadent. yum!
Nice place but real bad service / management tonight.
After a 20 minute wait for someone to take a drink order, I went to the bar myself, and no it is far from busy.
Then the wine fridge is far too warm. We had to return the rose. Kind of odd for a French restaurant?

One of the few classy non-touristy hang out spots in Southern Marin.

Bad service -- made a reservation ahead of time and they had no recollection of it on their scribbled piece of paper. So had to wait 20 minutes (and there's no good place to wait there). They were extremely unfriendly like they had better things to do than talk to customers and they were all over the place. A little friendliness goes a long way, but apparently no one told them this.
Meh food -- the food was such a let down. The dungeness crab stuffed squash blossoms were ok. Somewhat enjoyable, but it sounded way more exciting than it was. The duck confit was dry as all heck. Someone sucked that duck dry before it hit the plate. Sort of like duck jerky, except it didn't come in a freeze dried bag. The vegetarian mille feuilles was ok. it was edible; the sauce was overdone and the pasta tasted like it might have even been frozen.
The goods: good easy parking and it is a really cute decor -- like a garage (or like a really small hangar), with open air and great cute lights for the outdoor tables.
It wasn't even cheap (~20 bucks an entree). I think I'd prefer to have brought a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and sat on the dock for free, but maybe we just were the unlucky ones.
I wouldn't go back to this place unless you gave me a free meal. Too risky otherwise. Other people seem to have had good experiences so best of luck finding a) friendly service and b) better food than I. Good luck.
Great location... on the bay
Great service - very attentive
Fantastic Sunday brunch menu - I had the eggs benedict, the sauce was yummy and the bread was nice and crispy - the perfect combo for a good recipe.
We shared the Pain Perdu - best french toast EVER.. Soo good..
I'll definitely come back! Love this place.
I thought this place was great! I came here for Saturday brunch with some family and friends. I loved the setup where the restaurant is practically outdoors...the concept of being in a garage...sorta. The decor was very cute and perfect for a brunch joint in Sausalito. As for the food, I thought it was really good! We ordered the kobe burger, french toast, eggs benedict and prawn salad. I only tasted the kobe burger and french toast.
I thought the burger was delicious! It had grilled onions and the fixins. It was so juicy but not greasy at all. The beef was good and the bun was yummy as well. I haven't had a good burger like that in a long while. The fries were just how I like them; thin, crispy and garlicy! It came with an aioli which was good, but not the best. (I know, it's only aioli but I love my sauces!)
As for the french toast, it was so good! It had the yummiest fresh raspberry jelly and creme fraiche topping. I know it's just french toast but again, the condiments, this time the raspberry jelly and creme fraiche was what really made it.
Another thing to note is that they serve wheat bread and butter to start. Of course nothing too special but the butter is something to note. We noticed it was bright yellow when it came out and when we tasted it, it was so yummy! They made it a bit cheesy! It reminded me of when I went to a French restaurant in Japan and they made their butter taste a bit like custard! Yumm!!
I would definitely visit again! No wait, great atmosphere and food, friendly staff, and who doesn't love Sausalito?
Yeah, a cool off-the-beaten (tourist) path find. You'll definitely get the garage feel, which is actually quite comfy and hip. I can't imagine eating inside here, unless at the bar on a rainy day, because the view from the outside patio is prime. That's the main reason we went, so we waited around for an outdoor spot and the hostess was really cool about bringing us drinks so we didn't have to watch everyone indulge as we frothed over their good fortune.
We were seated quickly, and everything after that was pretty darn good. We started with crab stuffed squash blossoms. A nice dish which everyone else seemed to be eating too. Plenty for 2 to share (and they were clever enough to split the plates for us. Impressive.) My friends steak was "good, not great", and I had the mussels with lamb sausage...kind of a let down compared to the gorgeous ones at A Cote in Rockridge. They tasted really fishy and were quite small. My friend agreed. Seems like they've got some other potentially great dishes on the menu though, so I'd go back to give em a try.
It's definitely a hot spot with the Marin Co. crowd. We liked the local vibe. Wine list is solely French and Californian...seems to work with their menu, but variety never hurts. Another snazzy date spot...lively, yet laid back. Give it a try. How often do you get to have fancy food in a garage, anyway?
While wandering around Sausalito looking for good photo oops, I drove into a marina. As fate would have it, I was hungry and spotted an open air restaurant - Le Garage. Even though it was Friday at 1:30, the place was packed... So I decided to give it a try.
I didn't realize it was a French place because it's literally in, well... an old garage! That isn't where I guess I'd expect French anything.
Anyway, I got the menu and right away didn't know what 80% of the items even were. But I did spot the Kobe beef burger ($15) and knew it was for me.
The day was beautiful, the eatery was loud with conversation, and I was relaxing when the burger came. It looked good, it smelled good, and it tasted good. Not spectacular, but very high quality and cooked perfectly.
All in all it was a fun experience, I broadened my horizons, and I would recommend the place with no reservations if French style food is your thing. Personally, I'm not that cultured, so I won't seek it out again.
I've eaten here in the past and had a wonderful experience. On a weekday evening, a friend flew in from New York and I wanted to share my Le Garage experience. We just needed a table for 2, but the host said they were completely booked for the evening. I looked over the hosts shoulder and there were over 8 tables available...I sware I saw a tumble weed roll by. The host said we could wait for room to open up at the bar area...which was already packed with 7 customers (shoulder to shoulder). Very disappointed and took my guest elsewhere.
Great spot that over looks the water, nice outdoor/patio seating, delicious food.
Le Garage has that modern/casual feel to it. GREAT service, simple menu and THE BEST FRENCH TOAST i've had....EVER!
We came here for brunch and I can't say much about the Oeuf a la coque or the Salmon Omelette....both well put together, simple and wonderful. The real punch to the meal was their french toast. 3 thick slices, dusted with powdered sugar, raspberry preserves and a dallop of whipped cream. It's a dream on a plate. I couldn't stop singing its praises. It's dessert and breakfast rolled into one.
I am now their walking promoter for their French Toast. GET IT!
Worth it, especially when it's warm in Sausalito (about 2 days a year). Probably the best food in El Sauso.
Our intention that day was to hike to the lighthouse in Point Bonita after a quick drive through Sausalito to eat lunch. Whenever my roommate and I go for a nice meal, it tends to be French- the cuisine of her homeland.
If we are continually satisfied with the menus we see, as we were with Le Garage, we may just have to eat our way through every bistro francais from Tiburon to South City. For the price, I have yet to eat such divine new French. We never made it to Point Bonita (the only thing Le Garage was useless for was actually having mechanic's tools as I got a flat tire backing out of their parking lot) but at least our bellies got a workout.
We shared the Ravioles de Royans and the Masami Kobe beef burger. When you start with a basket of bread as delicious as that of Le Garage, you'll find that half a burger and half a side of pasta is far too much. We ate it all anyway, but I'm just saying it's nice to have the option for leftovers with such scrumptious food!
The beef was cooked perfectly- medium rare- and while I've had kobe beef burgers before, the Morbier cheese was a heavenly touch! My roommate didn't like the "overkill" of red onions, but I can't get enough so I just took hers and it made my half even better.
The fries were truly "french"- thin and a bit crispy. Accompanied by aioli...c'est parfait.
The Ravioles, again, were perfect. Much too large a portion, but with a wonderful sauce and just the right amount of parmesan (ever notice how too much parmesan can make a dish smell like sour body odor?)
Finally, for dessert, the fondant au chocolate...do i even NEED to say anything?
On top of it all, the service was great. Our hostess informed us we couldn't keep our dog at our table with us, but would offer us the next table right in the sun and closest to the bench where she was parked, so we could watch her. I loved the Garage motif, with mechanics uniforms and industrial decor, and despite the heavy wind that day the patio was well heated.
Can't believe this place opened not even 4 months ago. Très Très bien!!
Le Garage is a little hard to find, but keep at it, the trek is well worth it, and even fun. Overall a 4.5, almost gave it a 5, okay, I will, here's the details.
Setting probably deserves 5 stars:
Is Garage indeed in a garage? Kind of, but it is more like a big metal warehouse space than a garage (at least my garage) - a high open space that belies the fact the room is rather small, with a massive window looking out on the lovely Sausalito marina. You can't lose if you sit near the window: You either get a view of the marina or even Mt. Tam, at sunset no less, or you face the "action" inside. The action is Marin style, so not as diverse say as Mission action, but a good time nonetheless.
They also have tables outside, and Sausalito has wonderful weather (SF was socked in but it was dazzling blue at Le Garage thanks to the Marin Headlands). The funky setting had all the forks you need unless you are eating Monty Python style, actually a smart move given the limited staff - you get to use a clean fork each course and all they have to do is bus away the previous course, more restaurants should do this!
Food: A strong 4.
We all shared appetizers and none of them was a loser. The foie gras was of the chilled variety but was excellent. The special salad with goat cheese had two healthy dollops of the cheese, it was the highlight of the salad and they didn't skimp, so many do these days. Likewise the entrees were excellent, we had the mussels, the sea bass and the rib eye with truffle butter and happily picked off of each other's plates. None were brilliant but they were all close, and Le Garage tries to use as many local ingredients as they can. Not a single complaint.
Service: A solid 4
We had reservations and were on time but ended up waiting about 25 minutes past the appointed time, not horrible but a tad annoying. With such a limited number of seats it is hard for them to be precise. There is a very small bar for waiting, but really local couples use it for eating, you can't hang there so instead we hung around the periphery of the outside tables with glasses of wine, but if the weather wasn't good this could be a problem. Once seated service and bus was prompt and with a smile, timing quite good. The manager (owner?) came over a few times to check in on us, always a nice touch, and he was working it too, always a good sign.
Wine: 5-
Sancerre by the glass is always a good waiting, sipping option, whether in a French style bistro or not, and Le Garage had one. They tried to have a bottle of anything you could want in your price range, so a Pinot Noir in the $30 range, 40, 50, 60, etc. They similarly had a nice smattering of red Rhone selections, a perfect touch given the bistro nature of the place. Prices were not punishing, and MAYBE they could have a slightly wider selection, but I am reaching to give advice here. Overall a very well thought out approach to wine for a restaurant of the size and style. Wine service was rapid, bistro style, but effective.
Summary: Great setting, good buzz, excellent bistro food and wine, prices a smidgen on the high side but this is Sausalito, so not surprising. What's not to like? GO!
this place is like a little surprise, you round the corner near the boats, and there it is - this cute garage, converted into a lovely restaurant! we sat outside on a beautiful day and had brunch by the water. our service was fantastic - everyone there was so friendly. i loved my omelette, and tried the pancakes that the boy had... delicious too! i could have stayed for hours and drank coffee in the sunshine! will definitely be back...
Sunday afternoon home run. Hidden location right on the waterfront, with perfect patio seating overlooking the boat docks. Charming French service. Sparkling bellini in the sunshine. Some melt-in-the-mouth pain perdu with creme fraiche and berry compote. And not a harried tourist in sight.
Le contented sigh!
One of the area's best kept secrets. Difficult to find, but worth the search! Went on Memorial Day, waited no more than 15 minutes for a great table right outside, ovelrooking the water. The waiter was INCREDIBLE, and the hostess/manager was very efficient. We ordered a cheese assortment (not on the menu, but they can make it occassionally) that was super tasty but still accessible, a large and refreshing house-made Sangria, fries, and a Kobe Beef burger. We also had espressos, a strawberry tart (to DIE for!), and some dessert wine. If we could have stayed there longer, we would have. But,l being outside and by the water, it was getting extremely chilly, so layer for warmth.
I wish others didn't know about this place, so the secret can be kept, but it is worth the review and high marks it gets, so I am making the exception ;o) VISIT!
Parked to the right behind a designated fenced area and trekked over the lot to the restaurant overlooking boats and yachts.
A nippy morning breeze makes its way through the marina while the sun's stinging rays struggle to fight against the chill. Pedestrians pass by on their morning jog with the occasional dog. Tables of twos and threes chatter away, consuming or waiting to consume their Sunday brunch. A basket of sourdough bread with newspaper printed liner plops down in front of me. So does a bottle of Perrier and a glass with a lime wedge on the brim hanging on to its dear life.
The burger comes out. The half lb of medium-rare meat wedged between cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ciabatta was delicious. The fries though, was something I'd expected to find at the bottom of a fast food fries container. Yep, a mound of bits and pieces. What a disappointment.
Oh, the location, location, location, and the ambiance and the food!!!!!
With the view, and listening to the French language spoken in the restaurant (et je parle francais) you could imagine that you are in Marseilles.
The menu itself is somewhat Californian than French, but the discipline and the spirit behind the food is quite unapologetically continental. I would have love to have seen more authentic French bistro food, but I am satisfied that they have brought the idea to the terroir, and executes it very, very well.
The staff is friendly, and the selection of wines, either French or local is quite well chosen and offer good value. Price-wise, it's roughly the same as what you would expect to pay at the nearby Fish., but the whole experience is at another level here.
I can't wait to go back.
I took my girlfriend to Le Garage this Sunday for brunch. It was perfect. The view from the front deck is absolutely wonderful. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The waiter even moved our table into the sun for us and checked the leg-adjustment-dials to ensure that it didn't wobble.
My girlfriend had eggs Benedict and I had the chorizo omelet. Both were presented nicely and accompanied with potatoes. SO GOOD! They were prefectly cooked, seasoned, etc. The coffee was some of the best I have had at a Bistro in a long time. I highly recommend Le Garage for Breakfast/Brunch.
When you live in Sausalito, you just realize there really aren't many breakfast places.
You also realize there are even fewer *good* breakfast places.
The food is authentic, the service good, and the location keeps all the tourists out.
I recommend:
- Salade frisée
- Kobe beef burger (maybe not so french -- but the bun is awesome & the aioli fries are to die for)
- Brioche
The only downside to this place is the bathroom, which is quite a trek (other side of the building) & requires a key (don't make the journey without it -- like I did).
Ok, let me first say that I was really hopeful about this place. The name, location, etc was primo. So we get there for Sunday brunch and order the Oeuf à la coque which was runny with black bits of something. So we moved on to a Croque Monsieur. As you know from my other Yelp reviews, I KNOW Croque Monsiers and this one was the wurst because it had like lettuce with it which ruins the whole deal. I say spend your cash flow at Scomas and bring you garage door opener and push the close button.
Yesterday was an awesome day for another great find. My first wrap up meeting was held here after scoring a big victory.
This place is tucked away from the tourist population and is a local hangout in Sausalito. The servers are authentic refreshingly unpretentious French. Very casual with outside sitting as well as inside. We sat outside and ordered their duck patte, goat cheese- in short it was a plateful of little french food that was perfect for the after meeting munchies.
When you sit outside you will be facing the yachts that are moored there. My business partners had Stella for their beers and I had my usual water did not feel like drinking at all.
The whole restaurant has an open floor plan that suited a perfectly wonderful weather yesterday. Met Bruno the owner himself who graciously introduced himself.
Parking was easy and but be forewarned-it's not easy to find this restaurant. It's worth it when you do. Bon appetitt!
There are some really good restaurants in Sausalito and this place is one of them. Its located next to the water where all the boats/yachts are parked and it gives a nice feeling during sunset.
The interior is really a garage gives it a nice retro industrial feel I guess? not too sure how to describe it but check out the pictures and you will know what I mean.
We had ordered the Sweet bread, which was over peas with chantarelle mushrooms and demi glaze.
The salmon tartare with shallots and capers, that was also very good..
My lady had the scallops for her entree, which she enjoyed quite so and I had the ribeye with truffle butter.
For dessert we had the chestnut tarte with creme fraiche and the lemon panna cotta with blood orange coulis..I liked the panna cotta more but the chestnut tarte was not too sweet so it was also pretty well suited for my tastes..
overall we had a good time, and when we left there was still a wee bit of light out so we had a small stroll~
We came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon for brunch. I know, kinda late for brunch but we love late brunches!! The area was kinda sketchy -- no one was around and all you saw was grey and red garages and cars parked but no people? Where are the people??
Upon arriving, the workers were dressed in mechanics clothing which I thought was somewhat clever. The entrance to this place was section off with a plastic clear curtain that had a huge zipper to it. We walked around the area not knowing how to get in, until a worker unzipped the door for us -- odd, but sure, it works.
Our servers were really helpful. The guy who took our order and brought us food gave us good suggestions. The worker who cleaned our table and refilled our water even stooped down on his knees to fix our rocky table. Now that's service!!
Their house bread is just typical bread, but their butter is pretty tasty. Although it's not quite spreadable like most butters, it somewhat has a cheese taste to it. I believe my BF told me this was housemade and organic?
TOMATO SOUP WITH PESTO
mmmmmmmm!! This is a must get. Just order one serving and split it between two people. The serving size is just right. It's a bowl of red tomato soup and they drizzle pesto on it. The BF got one in a heart shape -- cute!
EGGS BENEDICT
Attention: Cured beef is pretty much a sausage! The bread they put the eggs benedict on is the same bread that you get in the beginning with the butter. This was a disappointment. I thought it was going to be BETTER bread. The eggs were cooked just right and the cayenne pepper that they added with it definitely paired off well.
CROQUE MADAME
Why is this so small? I was expecting more cheese and ham in the sandwich but I think I only ended up getting a few pieces of ham. This was a disappointment. The egg that they cooked on top made the sandwich gooey and saucy. This croque madame could have used more cheese and bechammel sauce to it. But I will say that the bread they used was pretty soft and tasted fresh. Overall, I think Brenda's in SF makes a meaner French ham and cheese sandwich. BUT I will say I substituted the side of greens for their fries + aioli sauce and this was a GOOD and UNHEALTHY choice.
I'm still debating if Le Garage is worth the $5 Golden Gate Bridge toll...hmm.
(Pictures to be posted)
We made it to the 3-5 pm menu. They have smaller menus at this time so we did not get to see the larger menu.
The cafe au lait is die for. Served in a bowl, the coffee was just superb and was the best start to my SF trip.
The food was pretty good as well. We got the cheese plate, the ravioli, and the quiche. My friend loved the quiche, but I was not fan. It was well done and flaky, but I am not a fan of bacon in my quiches. The ravioli was light and pretty good, but I would not order it alone. The cheese plate is delicious. Different kinds of cheeses with walnuts, dried fruits, and honey were served on a platter.
Overall, very good start to SF!
Great food!! Great Location!! So so service!!
I had the Croque Monsier. I spelled that wrong didn't I?
It was delicious.
The Kobe Burger.
Amazing!!
The View.
Grand, and Spectacular!
The service... well... that needs to be worked with a bit.
So go there, sit outside by the water. Brunch is grand. Try to focus on the food, and beauty, and not the waitress,
Reservations can be helpful for busy days.
Near perfect brunch spot. The staff is great; the view is great. If you're not from Sausalito, you feel like you've found a special locals only place.
As a vegetarian, my choices are a bit limited but I've still never left dissapointed. The french toast is very good ; fruit and yogurt is just the right size and very flavorful; the fries are tasty if not destination worthy; and, the deserts are perfect for sharing.
It is an easy walk from the Ferry terminal or a great stop on a cross-bay bike ride or hike. And, they have a large parking section so no parking worries.
Of course, it is Sausalito so it's not the least expensive brunch you've ever had. But I haven't felt over-charged either.
A French restaurant with polite French waiters??? I didn't know such things existed?? Le Garage is a wonderful little spot on the water. Perfect place for lunch on a sunny day. Nice, open, airy setting. Great views.
And the food. . . not bad either. Fries with perfect garlic aioli. A Kobe burger with Morbier cheese - are you kidding me?? Incredible brioche for the Croque Monsieur. The desert we indulged in was other wordly!
Fantastic service. My glass was never empty. The waiter skipped the hard press sell on bottle water and charmed our pants off.
Can't wait to go back for dinner!
