L'Occitane toiletries!!!

As I get older, I'm getting to be more high maintenance about where I sleep when away from home. The days of staying in hostels where the headboard is nailed to the wall and people are screaming down the hallway have come to an end for me.

GF and I were travelling to Minneapolis for her friend's wedding and needed our own private escape from the craziness. Found LeBourget on http://orbitz.com--because it's about 20 minutes from the cities, it was very affordable (under $75/nt with our travel package) and much nicer than places of comparable price in the cities. But because I'm a product whore, I would've paid more for the toiletries alone.

Things I loved about LeBourget:

-stylish rooms...private sitting area with couch, flat screen tv and dark wood accents
-a duvet covered bed that might have been more comfortable than my own (that's saying a lot!)
-granite counters in the bathroom, nice wall paper and great water pressure!
-L'Occitane toiletries that are replenished daily even if they're not empty
-in room Numi tea and free bottled water
-faux leather bench to sit on while putting on my peeptoes
-gigantic mirror framed in dark wood, just leaning against the wall next to the closet
-24 hour airport shuttle service (this is also where our flight crew stayed)
-24 hour pool (only wish there were an accompanying hot tub)

Note: the bachelorette party was held here also. the hotel staff knew we were having the party and were very cool about all the noise we were making. however, the rooms they gave us for the party were not as nice, probably because they knew they'd be destroyed.

The only things I'd change:

-the 6th floor hallway smelled like smoke, even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking floor
-starbucks coffee served in the lobby....ewww
-the pastry i picked up from downstairs was gross....felt like crisco coated my entire mouth with one bite

You know, I'm actually pretty torn about what I should do about this review.  On the one hand, I didn't pay much to stay here.  I got it for $44 a night on priceline, which for a 3.5 star rated hotel is pretty good.  However I don't think this is a 3.5 star property, and thus my rating is adjusted accordingly.

First off, the website is misleading.  I don't know if it's the SLR camera effect, but my room doesn't look like the pictures.  I mean it does, but when you see it with your own eyes it you don't get the same feel as you do as the website.

To clarify, this is clearly an older building that has been renovated heavily.  The lobby is modern, as are the halls.  It's from the rooms that you can instantly tell that things were changed.

The rooms are standard hotel width.  They are long however, long enough that a wall was installed to "separate" the couch area and the bed area making it a "suite."  Sort of like how Hyatt Places are if you've ever been to one.  Opposite the installed wall is the desk with TV, so that you can spin the TV to face either the sofa or the bed.

Gripes?
1.  The rooms are dark.   Even with all the lights on I still feel it's dark.
2.  Speaking of lights, they're aren't any light switches on the walls (except for the entry) and it took me a second to figure out how to turn all of them on.  The bedroom lamps have TINY switches hidden below the bulbs, and the desk lamp has one of those switches halfway up the electrical cord.
3.  Speaking of the desk... there is only 1 outlet and it's on the wall.  Most hotels have a desk lamp with an outlet built in or some other kind of easily accessible power outlet.
4.  The drapes do not have a sheer curtain, just the thick one.  So if it's a sunny day and you want to let some sunlight in, you have to be prepared to let yourself be viewed from outside.  *I was on the 2nd floor, the higher up it wouldn't matter I guess*
5.  You'd think the sofa is a sofa-bed.  No, it's not.
6.  Compared to the rest of the room, the bathroom is small.
7.  The alarm clock is old.  As if it's from the 80s.  It works though, and that's what matters
8.  4 Pillows, all square.
9.  Exposed screw/nail holes in the sink fascia.

Positives?
1.  The staff is friendly
2.  Free 24 hour shuttle to the airport or the Mall of America
3.  Comfortable bed
4.  Walking to food (Perkins)
5.  You see fleur de lis everywhere, I like it
6.  Aveda toiletries (it's no longer L'Occitane)
7.  Nice shower head
8.  Stylish furniture, including the shortest coffee table I've ever seen.

Would I stay here again?  Most definitely.  I'm not unhappy, just taken by surprise by the room compared to what I expected to see from the website.
