Palo Alto, CA

Went to lunch with a young friend & he said this was his fav. restaurant in downtown Los Altos. I had been there before, but only once or twice.
Pretty standard sanwhiches. I had eggplant, which was chewy. Not cooked enough. But the flavor of other ingredients, including tomato, was good. Balsamicy dressing on it which I really like.
The Coca Cola One from the fountain tasted like Los Altos water- Cloramine. I should learn not to get fountain drinks in places with nasty tasting water- but I guess I'm thick headed in this regard.

+1 star for having Numi tea
+1 for having a clean restaurant inside
There were way too many things wrong with this place for me to ever really want to go back. My sandwich I had at Pommard was a million times better and only $1 more. The outside was dirty, the service was extremely too slow (I shouldn't have to wait over 10 minutes for a sandwich!), and the staff was apathetic. I mean, you really need more than one person making sandwiches when there is a rush, not two people taking orders.
For sandwiches, I'd recommend Pommard or even Ferrari at this point (although I haven't had Ferrari sandwiches yet, but I hear they're tasty).
Dutch crunch bread, love it. Get any sandwich on dutch crunch, it's yummy!
I agree...its busy between 11:30 and 1PM. I had to run and deal with an issue at the post office earlier today, and thought I would grab a quick soup and salad. Poor Martin, i think that was his name, was coordinating everything and could not keep up. The cashier was duplicating the numbers and people who got there after me received their food sooner. Good yummy food, but if you don't want to get pissed off...avoid the lunch rush. I had the California fresh with a roasted red pepper cup of soup. They were both good, but I felt like I walked out of there hungry, perturbed, and a little annoyed. Not worth it.

This place is always busy for lunch. I sometimes go here with children, because they do have good food. My favorite is the California Fresh Sandwitch and their clamchowder soup is pretty good, too. They also have great bread and cakes. I come here 1/week for sure. Great place to eat fresh food.
Le Boulanger is always busy around breakfast and lunch time. As described below, it screams Los Altos with all the families with their dogs and coffee. Personally, I don't think their sandwiches are anything special. I only go here for a Sausage and Egg Omlette Sandwich and a Pineapple Orange Guava Nantucket Nectars juice. And no one makes a better sausage and egg omlette sandwich!
Overall, Le Boulanger is over priced average food. I wouldn't recommend this place to other people but I do still go there for my omlette sandwich whenever I go home.
I was surprised by how crowded this place was at lunch today. Every table was taken and there was a line to order... must be good. The place had a definite Los Altos (family, suburbanie, dogs everywhere) feel.
I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a the warm chicken breast and bacon (love bacon) on sliced sourdough. The sandwich was well prepared and came with a token bag of chips. The chowder was nice and hardy and full of clams very yummie on a cold day.
Nice place to stop for lunch but a new pot pie opened up down the street and want to try that next.

I just want to say...they have the best BLT I've ever had. Their breads are fantastic but their pastries leave something to be desired. If you want to avoid the attitude of los altos residents I wouldn't recommend coming here.
