Prince Kuhio is a great place to go snorkeling - rent some gear, park on the street and join the rest of the beach goers on the narrow beach here.  You will see turtles, fish and all sorts of awesome things.  Well, you might see a turtle, I saw one and followed him (he didn't like the chase).   Great place to spend a day or two!

This is THE best snorkeling experience. It's a tiny strip of beach, especially at high tide, and very rocky, so it's not good for jogging, or family picnics, or anything like that.

We overheard one guy who was a professional diver say that this was the best snorkeling he'd ever done.

We saw an awesome array of beautiful, colorful fish, amazing coral, and one giant sea turtle, just smiling (yes, I swear he/she was smiling) and cruising by.  That was probably the highlight of our entire trip. It's so peaceful and calming - another world here on earth that we should feel honored to share with these creatures.

You don't have to go too far out, so it's great for beginners and kids.  We pushed it to the limit and really swam out there though.  There's something about swimming from reef to reef that makes you want to not stop. We half-assed it and didn't even have fins, just bought snorkels and masks (I wore water shoesies though; it's very rocky going in). I'm fortunately still a pretty strong swimmer somehow - must've been all those San Diego summers in our pool and boogie boarding at Del Mar Beach.

If I lived here, I'd be at this beach every morning, if I could.  The sand and sea are like therapy to me - snorkeling is outright valium.

    Come on--this is almost perfection.

Kauai has some of the world's most beautiful beaches and this is absolutely beautiful. the crashing waves, warm water, optimal snorkeling opportunities, minimal crowds--what more do you want?!

Amazing little stretch of beach located on Kauai's South Shore. Had my first snorkeling experience here and was blown away at how clear the water was, not to mention all the beautiful fish!

It's not too deep (maybe 8-10 feet deep in most of the reef), so those not too experienced in swimming can still enjoy amazing snorkeling. While you will see an amazing array of fish and marine life, it's "not guaranteed" that you will see a sea turtle. You might be able to spot a few depending on how long you are in the water but they mostly hang out in waters a bit deeper. I did see one in about a two hour time period I was out there.

Seriously, I could literally spend the entire day here! A wonderful gem on an amazingly beautiful island!

Easy to park for free! Spectacular scenery. Warm water - gazillions of tropical fish and a few friendly sea turtles. Off shore reef keeping the big waves out... a recipe for a wonderful day!

On our trip to the south side of the island, we happened upon Lawa'i Beach on our way out to the Spouting Horn.  It is a nice little beach with about 10-15 feet of sand.  It was a little rocky, but not as bad as some of the other beaches on the island.  The snorkeling was great!  A lot of bright fish with a fantastic variety.  The surf wasn't too strong unless you swam pretty far out.  It was a nice place to sit and have lunch and enjoy some time with the ocean.  When you drive by, don't blink or you'll miss it.

We saw all kinds of fish and sea turtles while snorkeling at Lawa'i Beach.  There wasn't much beach to relax on but there was some grass nearby to sit and relax.  I thought it was good for a beginner snorkeler.  I would go again.

Lawa'i Beach is a little gem that's visible from the road.
Also called "Beach House" beach because of its proximity to said restaurant.  It is right next door!

No hiking required to enjoy great snorkeling and even SNUBA if you aren't adventurous enough to try scuba diving.  SNUBA is a cross between snorkeling and scuba diving.  It's a ton of fun without packing a ton of equipment.  You and a buddy share one air tank that floats above you in a small inflatable boat.  This seems to be the primo spot for that activity-  probably because there are a lot of colorful fish and other interesting things to look at just below waves.  I spotted puffer fish, sea cucumber, and even detritus from the island's last hurricane; a telephone pole and a street sign!

It's a bit rocky when entering/exiting the shore and you'll have to fight for a spot on the sand since there is not much of it here.  Definitely not a sun bathing kind of beach...  There are bathrooms and a place to rinse the salt water off your mask and snorkel right across the street, probably where you  parked the car.

The best snorkeling for beginners here in kauai!!!!! We snorkeled from about 9am to about 1:35pm and saw sea turtles the size of a hound child, various tropical fish, octopuses, and huge tubas I belive the water was so clear and beautiful!! We saw various coral as well... We are definitely planning to come here everyday...

Tips for fellow snorkelers and scuba divers...make sure to come in th early morn between 7-10am, this is when there are the most fish, but DO NOT go past the reef (this is where you will see waves breaking in the middle of the ocean) otherwise there is about a 60-80ft deep and more than likely you will encounter some reef sharks and the notorious tiger shark...

Also anytime you see a turtle beware, cuz sharks are typically nearby....

Good little beach in Poipu area!

    Snorkeling:
-- very good area for snorkeling. Not as good as Poipu beach, but good amount of reefs where you see your variety of fish (and the occasional sea turtles!!!)
-- for the intermediate snorklers or better. This is due to the waves, sometimes rough, that come in.

    Beach:
-- small, very small beach. Found it better just relaxing and sunbathing on the grass where the Beach House Restaurant is.

    Surfing:
-- Although I dont surf, this is just from observation
-- This is a little area where looked like alot of the locals came. a couple of days ago, the waves for the surfers were a good 8 foot waves! Very nice just watching them do their thang!

    Parking:
-- I dont know much info, looked like everyone just parked on the street.
