My boyfriend and I stayed here last year and loved this Inn. It is very clean, well-decorated and relaxing.  It is also very conveniently located near town, so therefore walking distance to most of the restaurants and shops.

There were, however, a few problems I hope they will work on to truly make this an extraordinary stay.  First, it's a little misleading to state on the website that "Guest Passes" are provided to the Ojai Athletic Club.  Only 1 pass is provided per room.  This pass is only good for the day you use it.  If you plan to go work out or use the pool with your fellow traveler, then you have to pay around $15 for that person (and yourself as well for more than 1 day).  Point is, a lot of inns in the areas have pools, and if you're comparison shopping, you should note that it will cost you a bit to have that same amenity while staying at the Lavender Inn.  Second, we went downstairs on Sunday morning about a half hour before breakfast ended.  At that point, the buffet had been completely decimated--there  were only a few pieces of scattered fruit in the bowl, a drained orange juice pitcher, and some lonely crumbs of salmon quiche. The coffee thermos was also empty.   We tracked down the host to let her know, and she returned with a modest amount of fruit in a single bowl and two additional scones.  She took 15 minutes to refill the coffee thermos...why wasn't it kept filled during breakfast hours?  Considering the fact that the website makes a big deal of the breakfast and even features a photo showing a lavish cornucopia of foods,  I thought this skimpiness was in poor form.  It's not fair that the early birds stampeding downstairs at 8 AM on a Sunday morning are allowed to pillage the buffet and leave others who show up later (but still within the designated breakfast hours) with a pitiful breakfast.

Other than those two points, we had a great time and look forward to returning. The cooking classes on Sunday look terrific and can't wait to check those out either.

We spent a spontaneous Sunday evening at the Lavender Inn in Ojai, Ca.   This B & B, in its first life, was the first school building in Ojai, circa 1850 and has been converted to a 7 room B & B, all charm!!  Very romantica!!!

It is  located in the heart of the serene village of Ojai behind the Ojai arcade alive with restaurants, galleries, and shops. The private gardens and fountains ensure a tranquil retreat. A separate building on the property houses the Angelic Touch, an intimate day spa with a variety of massages and facials. Once you park at the Lavender Inn, you never have to get in your car during your peaceful stay.

If you are ever in the area, check it out, reasonable rates and the breakfast is gourmet.

My husband and I stayed here from a Monday to a Friday.  It is a bed and breakfast, so it is a house.  It has 7 rooms upstairs (and a cottage you can rent on the premises) and downstairs, there is a sitting room, a media room and a dining room. There are no phones in any of the rooms and only one or two rooms have a television.  In the media room, there is a stereo, a laptop computer, a television set with DVD player and a large table to sit around.  They have movies, books and CDs to choose from.

The inn is very quaint and although it is right in the middle of town, it is still mostly quiet and it is very relaxing.  We had a few troubles while there, but it had to do with other guests and not the inn itself; firstly, there is only one thermostat for the upstairs and it is accessible to everyone.  We were there in summer and I woke up sweating because of our second problem (our neighbors came in late and were very noisy and full of laughter that penetrated the walls); since I was up, I checked the temperature and someone had turned it up to 86 degrees!  It was SUMMER.  So, I turned it down to 68 degrees and the temperature wars ensued.  It was decided to compromise and believe it or not, in the middle of summer, the thermostat was set at 74 degrees.  There are no fans in the rooms.

Breakfast is included in the price and served every morning.  It was usually a frittata with fresh squeezed orange juice (sometimes there was another kind of juice), fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and coffee.  They use fresh herbs from their herb garden to cook and we had a different frittata daily.  Oh, and there were bagels with cream cheese and one day they had a delicious bread.  That day's newspaper is laid out by sections every morning in the media room.  Also included in the price is wine and cheese (and crackers) every night from 5-6pm.

The innkeepers were very nice, especially Gweneth who was very helpful.  The private gardens are beautiful with several seating areas, a hot tub and a hammock!  You can walk to everything as you are right in town.  We drove to Ojai, so brought our bikes.  Ojai has a bike path that goes all the way to Ventura (14 miles).  The Inn stored our bikes for us.

We would definitely stay here again.

If we didn't stay with my husband's family in Ojai, we would stay at this lovely bed and breakfast, which is centrally located, but serene.   Although I have not stayed at the Lavender Inn, I have toured the property and taken two cooking classes there with my family (much more fun than just going to brunch somewhere).

The Lavender Inn would be a great location for a romantic getaway from Los Angeles.  It is an interesting alternative to the Ojai Valley Inn.
