No one is ever cutting my hair again, unless they work here.
After a woeful summer I decided I needed a new start haircut. The kind of haircut that made people say, oh my god! look at your hair!
I briefly toyed with dying it different colors or chopping it all off before I decided the best choice was to leave it all to the experts.
I sat down in Laurentius' chair and told him he could do anything. I felt immediately comfortable with him and trusted him with my hair. He gave me some ideas and I told him to do what he liked.
My hair was expertly washed, which was really relaxing. Then Laurentius started in on my haircut. He was super fast, and as I watched the style take shape I just got a big grin. The end result is awesome--definitely a positive response. I love it.
I've been here for a pedicure as well, which was a great experience. Robin was meticulous. My feet have never been so smooth before. And the treatments were great--I did one with fresh egg brushed on my feet. It was really very wonderful.
Nicki, who I've also seen for cuts, is so sweet and always remembers me.
The ambience in the salon is also wonderful. The white could be cool but somehow comes across as pristine and calming.
As a side note, people have mentioned prices. Its certainly not cheap, but in my center city salon hopping it seems pretty much in line with other places. Some treatments are actually a little less then the places around Rittenhouse.
I walk from Center City to the Italian market to come here and its totally worth it!
I made some general inquiries on getting my hair cut here and I have to say I never met a ruder bunch of people.
I think that this is disappointing, UNACCEPTABLE, and very unprofessional.
Rudeness is NEVER ACCEPTABLE!
My hair was a piece of art, I almost didn't want to touch it. Scott spoke about the best cut for my face, fixed up my color, took the time to explain how to properly blow-out (front to back), and the whole she-bang.
It's an ultra-modern salon, that appears somewhat pretentious, but not quite. The stylists are pretty chill (at least mine was) and the owner greets all of the patrons and makes you feel like a million bucks (and considering he's worked with enough celebrities and models, he knows how to schmooze... loved it!).
My hair would rate this place a 5, but after the mild heart attack I suffered when I got my bill, my wallet gives it a 4. Don't forget to tip your hairdresser AND their assistant.

The salon is modern and beautiful and everyone there is so friendly! My hair and nails always looks amazing when I leave. Laurentius is an amazing stylist! He'll look at your hair and make suggestions to enhance your hair and do what is best and most healthy for your hair. At first I was worried that he might be a little snobbish since he's worked with celebrities (Britney) and is called upon for numerous ad campaigns (Rolex, Allure Magazine) but he is SOOOO NICE!!! I always feel like I'm talking to an old friend.
The salon also offers mani/pedis and Robin is the BEST manicurist I have ever been to. She is a perfectionist when it comes to her work and she is never pushy....I always feel so relaxed and so welcomed when I go there.
As a bonus, all clients get to park in the reserved lot - thanks Laurentius!!
I've been to lots of salons in Philly, and have finally found my perfect match. Its a wonderful cut, great staff, an overall wonderful experience.
Soooo I really wanted to like this place...but was dissapointed. I'll try to give credit where credit is due - The employees were all friendly which was a plus. I can't stand snobby salons and this definitely isn't one. The salon is very modern and bright and pretty...but so are a lot of high end salons.
Now for the real reason I went here...just for a basic cut nothing else. My stylist Nicky was super cute and nice but my cut was terrible! I have a short bob and wanted just a trim, nothing fancy when I was trying out a new hairdresser, but it ended up uneven, heavier in places, and just overall unimpressive. It was $50 and I felt like I could have gotten the same cut at a walk in chain store. After washing and drying it myself I was still just incredibly unhappy. To the salon and Nicky's credit, I went back and she fixed it as best she could and was incredibly nice about it.
I can't speak for the other stylists but I probably won't try this place again. There are too many other salons in the city to try.
Look, they got it right in Philadelphia Magazine when they named Laurentius Salon as the best salon in the city this year. It is simply amazing there.
I've been to many salons and barber shops in my life. I've paid $10 for a haircut (with clippers and some Club Man splashed on) and I've been in some of the best boutique shops in town. Laurentius is the best....by far.
The total experience is great. You can tell they love their clients. From the moment you walk in you're part of Club Laurentius. The place is visually gorgeous -- all white and silver and super modern -- and there are a lot of smiles from the staff and patrons alike.
Oh, did I mention that Laurentius gives me the best haircut of my adult life? Yeah, he does the stars of screen and runway, but he spends a lot of time on Philadelphia knuckleheads like me, too.
Go to Laurentius and you won't go anywhere else again. I used to love that old Mercedes Benz commercial that used the line, "My father always told me to choose the very best. You'll never be disappointed." That line is a great one for Laurentius Salon, too.
Laurentius is a rock star stylist... literally. He's done lots of famous locks... and he's at least as good at what he does as those musicians and actors are at what they do. I can't possibly say enough good things... there just aren't enough superlatives. His salon is fantastic... the decor is amazing, everyone who works there is super friendly and they're all pros.
Hair... Laurentius is the best. Not too long ago I thought my hair was a complete disaster. Laurentius worked his magic and I was happier than I'd been with it in a long time. I've heard him telling clients he's been thinking about them, and that he has ideas for them... he means it. He's done that for me too. He never stops thinking about his work... because he's an artist... and I don't think it's work to him... he lives it. Not surprisingly, he's also fabulous with make-up (and recommendations for fashion and accessories... he knows what's new and what works for people).
Nails... Laurentius works with Robin Campbell... she's as much of a perfectionist with nails as he is with hair.... it's a terrific combo. Get the Balinese pedicure... it's SO worth it... talk about relaxation and outstanding results.
As an added bonus, Laurentius is great with kids, pets, moms, friends... he makes everyone comfortable. My hair grows super slowly and he is the only person on the planet I would ever trust to do whatever he wants with it. I'm completely convinced there's no one better... and he treats every one of his clients like they're famous... even though not all of us are. I adore and highly recommend him.
Fabulous salon, all around. On this particular salon visit I was in to get my hair colored. I went to Kim & she was absolutely amazing - highly skilled & doesn't beat around the bush with what will or won't work with you & your hair. As I was in the seat, she kept coming up with more ideas with what we could do to my hair in the future. She is definitely passionate about creating great hair color!
I think for cuts I'll head straight to Laurentius Purnama himself though - Ive heard incredible things about his skills all around town so I gotta give him a try at least once!
The salon itself was just awesome too. Very mod design, upbeat feel, upscale but definitely not stodgy. & I was totally won over by the Al Hirschfeld piece thy had on display of Audrey Hephburn. Ooooho man I've ALWAYS wanted a Hirschfeld!! So jealous!! ;)
All in all my experience was very pleasant & everyone there made a nice effort to make sure I was always comfortable and happy. I can definitely see myself making return visits.
Also, there is complimentary parking in the lot across the street. Very convenient!
I'd like to give the place 5 stars, but I think I'd like to have one more experience there before I make my final decision.
The prospect of getting my brows waxed scares the living shit out of me. I get this bright red strip across my forehead and my skin gets all inflamed and gross. So I try to avoid it. Yeah, not too pretty. Fortunately, I met Laurentius Purnama,owner of Laurentius Salon, who introduced my eyebrow to his brow waxer Sherry. She is the best. Hands down. Minimal redness, and a perfect shape. Pow. Get your brows done.
Laurentius Salon is the best!! My sister was visiting from out of town and she wanted to get a trim and new style. I had been meaning to do the same for quite some time, so I made appointments for both of us. Nicky was our stylist. She was so nice, so cute, and really listened to what we wanted and came through with two amazing cuts and styles. She cut both of us in minimal time and before I knew it, we were walking out with blown out styles that made us want to hit the bars. I was nervous about getting my long one length hair cut into layers, so she cautiously cut and we reviewed my hair after each layer. In the end, I surprised her by even suggesting some shorter pieces around my face, which she wanted to do, but was worried it would be too much of a shock for me. She made me so comfortable that I came out with a much better style than I have had in years, and was actually happy to have shorter, layered hair. All for $50 bucks a head! If you need a hand holding stylist or a stylist that will actually listen to you and use her skill to give you what you want, then go to Nicky... she's the best!
