Gorgeous. Breathtaking. Beautiful.
Magical. Mesmerizing. Awe-inspiring.
I am not sure what made my husband and I take a slight detour and head toward this spot. On impulse I turned off Hwy 19 and I am sure glad I did. From here we watched the ocean in awe. The water was the most perfect blue I have ever seen. The waves were so powerful and as each one crashed against the rocks I felt a shiver run up my spine.
I don't believe either of us could utter a word for about 45 minutes after leaving this place. We were both speechless. When I close my eyes and think about it, it still brings back those feelings of awe and the powerful beauty of the ocean. This place is magical. Absolutely magical. The pictures do not in any way do this spot justice. If you come to the Big Island, you definitely need to head to this spot. Don't expect to do anything but stare in amazement though.

This is a gorgeous spot to view huge waves typical on the east coast of the Big Island and some beautiful black rock formations from the nearby volcanoes. I am not sure I can put into words what it meant to stand at what felt like the edge of the world and gave out into a perfectly beautiful blue sea against glistening black rock. Behind you is a view of exquisite rainforest in the distance. There are quite a few twist and turns to get to this location. My mom and I did it first try without the help of GPS. On the way the view is breathtaking, literally. You will not believe it. And if you are a newbie like I was you will want to cry. It's not like any other state park you've been. You'll forget you are still in the United States. I can see why Captain James Cook wanted to claim this place. It's absolutely beautiful.
