After writing my last review, I received an email from the owner of Laundromutt, and this is what it said:

Dear Erica,
Thank you for Yelp-ing about your experience at LaundroMutt. My staff and I always appreciate feedback from our clients. I will definitely consider your thoughts about a tooth brushing service. The one hurdle that we have would have to deal with is how to sterilize the toothbrushes after each use. But, where there is a will there is a way! Thanks again-

I definitely wasn't expecting that, but the fact that the owner took the time out of his day to acknowledge my suggestion really impressed me. You can tell he genuinely cares about his clients. I revoke my previous statement. Laundromutt deserves an A+.

Woofie and I are fans!

Laundromutt is situated right in the middle of the fresh pond/huron rotary thing with about three parking spaces in back.

I've only been for the pawdicure (read: nail clipping), which is super reasonably priced at $9. I knew I was hooked when today Woofie only needed his front paws done, and we were only charged half price! I doubt most businesses would be that thoughtful with pricing.

They've also got a cute selection of collars, leashes, and toys that tend to be favorites among the dogs, like those squeaky ball things with feet.

Dear Laundromutt....
Thank you for making it easier to wash my stinky muttly dog.   I love him- but when I wash him at home bad things happen- i get soaked and i have to clean dog hair off the walls and ceiling and .... well, everything.

LaundroMutt has several price levels for washing your dog yourself. You can go basic and towel dry or go fancier with a special shampoo (i recommend the de-greasing citrus) and conditioner and the dryer.  They even have these great hoses with the shampoo shooting through all sudsy.   So you don't end up with half a bottle of shampoo in one spot trying to dilute it.    The staff was really friendly and helpful and handled my quirky mutt and had him wagging and giving kisses.  (he's super nervous and this can really go in the other direction)
They even cut is toenails and did a great job!  (and $9 is really reasonable for that by the way- most vets charge more!)

They also have grooming but I have not used that service.  I did notice that they don't have crates for drop off dogs which is great.  (**I worked at a dog wash in another city.. generally places that don't have the crate situation are great for more anxious dogs because they aren't sitting around all day.  They get groomed when they come in and then they go home.  WAAAAAAy less stressful for the dog!)

I Do wish that their retail store had more "functional" collars like martingales and lupine in general.... but that's just personal preference.  The collars that they have are super cute. They do have gentle leaders which i am a big fan off!

I have been twice now and I will keep making the bimonthly pilgrimage to the land of the non stinky mutt!

yeah for my clean snuggly tuba dog!

Great for do-it-yourself grooming! Easy and somewhat inexpensive (like $22 sans nail clipping). They do have a parking lot around back (you have to enter from a side street), and, good customer service from the women who work there.

But, Laundromutt is bad (read: very expensive) if you have them do it in their Drop Off Bath service -- and they charge $2.25 per foot for the nail clipping!  (Who knows how much it costs to have their groomer groom your dog!).

And, you have to stand around and wait for them to wash your dog because they have nowhere to put your dog once they're through.
It's crazy.

So, (with the special hypoallergenic shampoo that I get for free at other places, I paid) $48 for wash, dry, and clip his nails -- but not brush, cut, and style him -- while I'm waiting around.

Or, for $50, I could take him to Especially For Pets, and have a full-service job, complete with brushing, cutting, and nails, and I don't have to sit around and wait.

I know which one I'm gonna choose -- if (because of my allergies) -- I'm not doing it myself. ;)

Dear Yelper Below me...

I just want to Clarify that at Laundromutt, the prices are actually GREAT! I just moved to San Francisco... and your right you DONT want to know how much they charge here for grooming! Plus nail clippings are a whopping $15 on average.

Yes. I did use to work for Laundromutt so I do have a biased opinion. However, working for a Salon on the east coast has brought allot of things about the industry to my attention. If you are the type of person who wants to leave your dog all day for the grooming while you work or run erins, thats great there are plenty of shops to ocomidate that. However, its rare to find a shop that can have your dog back with you so quickly because most are drop off at 9am and pick up at 5pm, like my current shop in San Francisco. I think its wonderful that Laundromutt can provide this service for dogs who don't do great being left all day.

Also, Laundromutt WILL Brush your dog when a drop off bath is done... However if your dog is matted or requires allot of blow out ( Ridiculous  amounts of shedding that require hours to remove) than an experienced groomer is required and the staff is mostly likely to refer you to their groomer Alana. Not to mention Alana is in high demand for her ability to work with extremely difficult dogs, as well as dogs with separation anxiety, also providing the option for a early or late pick up. Plus she's a superb groomer with years of dog experience under her belt.

Laundromutt will always hold 5 stars in my heart!

This place rocks!  We've been taking our chocolate lab there since they opened and the service has always been great.  Everyone who works there is very friendly and loves being with dogs.

I would also recommend buying food from them - good prices and, if they don't have it in stock, they can order it and have it within a week.

My little guy Oliver is not that big (under 40 lbs), but my bathtub does not make bathing the guy easy, especially when he stinks after a day full of fun in the mud with this friends, so I take him here 'cause it's easy... and most of all, FUN!!!!

Highlights:
- 5 stars goes to the friendly, helpful staff.
- Love the doggie lounge upstairs where the little man can chill before he gets his fur did
- Pricing is very fair - $15 without blow-dry and that includes shampoo and towel service
- Parking in the back is a huge PLUS
- Quality pet toys and products at the front of the store.  Oli's very picky with his toys, and I got him a sturdy ball here that has yet to be torn apart!  HUGE plus!

Love this place and would definitely go here again!

I brought my sister's dog Lucian here for his first bath after being shipped 2,000 miles in a filthy poo and wee filled crate from the breeder. Needless to say, he stank to the high heavens when he arrived at Logan, and made any room he entered smell like a city zoo. He even managed to make my cat smell like a rubbish bin just from licking him.

Now, Lucian's descendents lounged in the French court of Louis IX , so I was apprehensive about bathing him alongside other dogs - potentially common ones with scrunched up faces and gammy teeth at that! However, the layout of Laundromutt prevents any such interaction, which was brillant. There are surgical style sinks with partitions, so your dog can't see what is going on in the sink next to him.  In addition, the dog is restrained in the sink with a plastic lead, so you don't have to worry about him jumping out of the sink. They even have little steps for the dogs to climb into the baths, if they don't fancy being lifted into them.

I ordered the über spa treatment for Lucian and he became so relaxed that he just sat down in the sink and let me lather him up three times!! The water was black after the first couple of rounds, so I was really glad that this wasn't going into my bath at home. Also, the staff said it was okay to use the full 16oz or so containers of shampoo and conditioner, so that was nice.

After I washed him, one of the staff members helped me lift him onto to the drying table, where I was able to get the wax out of his ears with wet wipes, blow dry him, and then spray fancy finishing spray on him. Of course when I was blow drying him, he struck a pose in the window, as only Weimeraners can do, and passersby were highly amused. When we walked through Huron Village afterwards, he was walking in ever such a jaunty fashion. He knew he looked and smelled amazing and it's all thanks to Laundromutt!

Hands down the best place to do something yourself. Staff was omega friendly, and were very helpful when they realized I had no idea what I was doing. It was just an awsome experience overall.

The price just cant be beat. My brother and I got the Uber Spa package which is just conditioner and blow drying thrown in with shampoo for $23. Used to bring Puma to Toureen in Watertown, $50. Not saying that it was bad service there, just saying Id rather pay 23 to do it myself than 50, just saying. Coming from someone who used to give his 75 pound dog a bath in a household shower, Ive gotta say that the facility was nice and everything is cleaned up and ready for the next dog to come up and get a bath. There is even a lounge upstairs the size of a small living room  that has books, a tv, AC, and couches.

Bascially you come in and...
-pick your package
-get your dog in the tub
-shampoo shower rinse (you get 2 bottles of shampoo per dog)
-dry
-groom (ears, spray conditioner, nails, etc)
-leave soo fugging happy

Puma desperately needed to get his clawwwsss cut and fearful that it would be charged, i asked them if they could show me. Not only did they show me but they helped me keep him still while i hacked away at them.

Theres also parking in the back. In the actual shop itself there are a lot of nice high end looking toys, bowls, treats and raw hides, I didnt buy any but im sure they were reasonably priced. if you happen to be waiting for a ride like i was, down from the rotary theres a park and stuff that ur newly bathed dog can roll around in too. Gawrsh i fell in love with this place my first visit and im sure to come back again.

I just took my dog, Cassie, to get the works.

We got the $19 wash and dry with the deoderant shampoo. We also paid $9 to have her nails clipped, $1 for aromatherapy spray and $2 for treats.

She looks like a million bucks! It was fast and she felt so much better that we were with her. She is a bit skiddish and pampered so she loved the fact that we were giving her a bath and blow drying her.

I can't believe people complain of the price, when groomers leave them in a cage before and after and aren't usually the best. If you go to a groomer that takes your dog right away and does a thorough  job, you will pay more than $20!

Woof! Woof! My pup, Korky, and I give this place two paws up.

Over the weekend my wonderful pup managed to eat something disgusting on one of our many walks throughout the neighborhood. What happened to his stomach and the mess it took on his fun fur is really a story that I can not re-tell. I had read about the Laudromutt on several occasions so I figured this would be the best time to try it out.

The employees there were more than helpful getting my smelly pup and I set up. We washed, we dried and we had a good time while doing it!

As I was leaving the place was starting to get busy and it seemed many of these people were regulars.

While the prices are a bit steep ($19 for a full wash, dry, etc) it was worth it not to have to clean out my own tub after, chase around a wet dog, etc. We are officially Laundromutt fans!

Love Laundromutt! The Gooseface killah sparkles after his wash and blowdry. You have to blow dry, it gets so much loose hair off. The staff's nice, It helps that one of the employees is a boxer fan, too. I've only had to wait a couple times and they have a great dog/people lounge upstairs with mags and a tv, I got to watch the red sox with some nice folks and their dogs- how cool is that. But be warned, some idiot customer left the gate open my dog bolted. If there are loose dogs up there shut the gate behind you jackass! Oh and $18 bucks once a month for a wash and blowdry is not expensive.

Laundromutt Rules!  Woof!  After one (disastrous) attempt at washing my puppy at home, we went to Laundromutt, got the basic $15 wash, and he was so clean.  If you can't pony up $15 to get a great wash (and you can wash for as long as you want/need), then stay home, have your dog soak your bathroom, wash a ton of towels... oh, and then do all the cleaning yourself!

Another poster complained that they didn't give out free snacks.  There are Buddy Biscuits that cost 25 CENTS!

The people at Laundromutt are all really nice, and we are going back next week.

Awesome!  No more dog hairs stuck to every surface in my bathroom and wet footprints all over the house.  Our last visit was a bit of an emergency - I really appreciated the convenience to the park and the general convenience of bathing a feces-covered dog outside of my house.  I don't know what I would have done without you!

Hey,
So our dog's were  a bit on the dirtey side after taking them on a free for all somewhere in Lexington's wooded area.  (make sure you are appropiately dressed) I forgot where we were going and here I am wearing capri's and a tank with flip flops on. Mosquito heaven!!

Soo anywhoo back to the review.  Yari and Pixel after having a great time went for their very first Laundromutt bath.  I have seen this place before and was always curious. We walked in and were able to wash them right then and there.

It is not that big, but hey you are only going there to wash your pup.  They have elevated tubs with a hose that pumps shampoo into it.  Pretty cool!! I took advantage of that.  I think I soaped Yari for like 20 minutes.  They have different soap scents to choose from, I think some are an additional fee.  You can either towel dry your pup or dry them with the super vacuum blow dryer.  I liked the blow dryer but watch out if you have a hairy dog because  her hair was flying everywhere.

This place is def better than washing them in our tiny stand up shower.  I would recommend it. I just wish it was not so out of the way for us.

I'm a little torn about Laundromutt. We had taken our dog there a few times for a wash when she was a young pup. On one particular visit after a pretty vigorous workout at the dog park, (where she had peed and pooped, several times) we were standing in the waiting area, and she squatted down to pee. Apparently I didn't react quickly enough to her peeing, but I figured, hey, it's a dog place, this probably happens a lot. The owner was less than pleased and ordered me and the dog out of the store, and then proceeded to make some snide comments to my wife about walking our dog.

That being said, I sent a letter to the owners, and we resolved the matter. He admitted to overreacting to the incident, and I admitted I could have been a little quicker about yanking my dog out of the store. We haven't been back since, but it's a nice place. Just make sure your dog is fully house-trained. A little pricey for what you get, however.

"We haven't been back since, but it's nice place. Just make sure you dog is fully house-trained. A little pricey for what you get though."

I completely agree with this.  Firstly, my dog isn't that big and he ain't a fighter when he gets in the tub, so laundromutt is kind of pointless for me.  With that said, one time he rolled in something truly heinous.  I took him there, and the owner was on me like a hawk about my dog peeing on anything, which he wasn't threatening to do.
Also, the price was $15 for a simple shampoo wash and towel dry.  Now, I'll admit that he looked the best he has ever looked after that, but the price was high enough that I'm not going to go there on a whim.
Definitely only a place for people with big dogs or small tubs.  Or an anal retentive need to keep your dog clean.  Or all three.

Yes, it's pricier than scrubbing your dog at home in the tub, or hosing her down with a hose. But, the raised grooming tubs make the process infinitely faster, and THEY CLEAN UP THE MESS! I've got a bad back, so the high tubs make the process much easier than bending or kneeling over the bathtub at home. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
It does get crowded though--I wish they were bigger!

Puppy approved!

Very pleasant, helpful staff. Yes, it was a little pricey for giving the dog a bath and blow dry ($19), but it's kind of my own fault, since I don't want to bath him at home. When my little white pooch turned three different colors, I knew it was time to shell out the cash. He was actually striated -- Dirt brown at the bottom, camel at the leg section, and gray everywhere else. A lot like a Rothko, actually.

The nicest part about the Laundromutt: you get to choose what flavor your dog will be. I chose honey and almond, opposed to fresh scent. Now I can nuzzle with him all day long, and not get a mouthful of dirt.

I took our Great Dane to Laundromutt after he'd spent a week boarding at Pet Companions Bed & Biscuit while we were on vacation.  He probably will fit into our tub at home, but I have no desire to try to get him into it and don't want to deal with the mess that would inevitably result, so, enter Laundromutt.

I read the reviews here on Yelp before I went, as well as their website, so I was prepared for the prices.  I selected the basic self-wash package (with just a towel-dry) and did upgrade the shampoo to the oatmeal variety for dry skin.  The staff on duty were very helpful and showered my dog with attention - one woman set up the largest bath station for me, helped me get my dog into it, and showed me how to use it, and helped me get my dog out afterward.  They provided me with a chamois towel as well as a regular towel (I think they threw this one in as an extra given the size of my dog).  There are rubber-coated aprons for you to wear, and i definitely used one knowing that my dog would make every attempt to shake off every drop of water I sprayed on him.  I was the only person washing my dog at the time, and I had no problems whatsoever.

I have used self-serve dog washes before - there was one at a great pet store we used to frequent in the San Francisco area.  Laundromutt is more expensive in comparison (and I'm always surprised when I find things that are more expensive here than in the San Francisco area) - the self-serve wash I'd used before only cost $9 with all the towels I needed and free shampoo (and you could bring your own shampoo too - I don't think that would be accepted well at Laundromutt, though I did not ask, to be fair).

They also sell treats, collars, and other dog-related items, though I didn't buy anything else.  They have a few free parking spots behind the store also - and we all know that free parking is the best parking there is.  Overall, I think Laundromutt is pretty good - I'd give them 5 stars if they were just a wee bit less expensive.

My dog and I just came back from Laundromutt after a mishap with some mud puddles at the dog park.  And I have to say, I was really impressed.  I'd been hesitant to go because after all, I really can do it myself at home.  However, after giving him a bath there, I don't have a bad back or hair all over the bathroom and a wet dog on my carpets.

The staff was really attentive and friendly and the equipment made things so easy.  I have a border collie mix.  Normally it takes me at least an hour to bath him.  But there, it took 20 minutes at most.  I was able to wash (with my choice of yummy smelling shampoos) and blow dry him in addition to clean his ears and spray his coat with some de-tangler.  All for $19.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat and probably will soon!

I have been to Laundromutt three times and each experience has been wonderful.  I don't actually take my dog there so that I can bathe him.  I do that at home.  However, when I want his nails trimmed (you can just walk in for that) or fully groomed - the haircut, nails, etc. - I take him to Alanna at the Fresh Pond Laundromutt.  She is super nice and both times my dog came out looking like a rock star!  My dog was in a great mood and I could tell he had a good time there.  I came to Alanna by many good references from other dog owners in my neighborhood and she is well worth it.  I have a wheaten terrier and depending upon his cut, he can have a lot of hair.  She takes her time and even gives you tips on better grooming at home.  If you want an appointment with her you have to book way in advance though.  As of right now, I think she's scheduled 8 weeks out.  If you can get an appointment, go to her!

Expensive compared to similar dog-washes I've been to in San Francisco, and that's saying something: rarely do I find something more costly here than there.

It's a bit galling that you have to pay something like $3 extra for oatmeal shampoo (for itchy skin, versus their regular doggie shampoo). I mean, really, the whole bottle of oatmeal shampoo probably only cost twice that, and that's if they're buying them one at a time, retail, which I highly doubt.

It's also cheap of them that they don't give you cookies for your dog while you're doing the washing; you have to either remember to BYOC, or buy some from their storefront before getting your dog into the tub. Every other place I've been to supplies a free-flowing cookie jar next to the tubs.

More cheapness in evidence that you get one, just one, shammy-style towel for your dog. Want another? That's extra. Again, other dog washes I've been to provide an unlimited stack of fresh white cotton bath towels for customer use.

All that said, the place was clean, and well-organized considering the number of customers, dogs, and staff everywhere. Given that it appears to be the only do-it-yourself dog wash around here, it's definitely the place to go when your dog is too big and/or too filthy for your bathtub. I just think they could take some pointers from their more generous and welcoming West Coast brethren.

My dog isn't crazy about going here to get bathed after he gets filthy walking through the woods, but it is a very convenient place to clean him up and the staff is always friendly.  The store has nice goodies too.  The prices are fairly reasonable, although it can add up quickly if, like me, you have a dog that likes to get dirty and requires multiple visits in a month.

Well ... I agree.... it is a little pricey. I have used the self-service only once. They sure do have cool equipments to make it easier for her to clean up dogs. But then I have no problem washing mine.. so I don't think I will be using the service.

I loved Alana, who was a groomer there but she left. She was really great..... So I was very disappointed to hear about her departure. I don't know how good the new groomer is, but I should definitely try.

I've gotten my dog groomed here since she was a puppy and ---minus one time when Alana (the fabulous groomer!) moved for a bit and my dog got groomed by somebody else and looked like a plucked chicken, I'm not kidding folks--- she looks great each and every time.  Alana is really amazing, accommodating and just downright sweet.

The staff is really nice - my pup has some separation anxiety issues so I bring her in sometimes just for a treat so she doesn't associate it as the place she gets left, and they are always friendly.

I've seen Alana and the owners out and about and they honk and wave and stop and say hello.  They remember your name and your dog and do their best to run a good business.

They have some stuff for sale in their front area and, if you are so inclined you can do a self-service dog wash or drop-off wash as well.

I've been taking my two dogs to Laundromutt since it first opened.  I've always had a great experience even when I brought my own shampoo and my own brushes.  They weren't weird about it all.  I especially like that  they don't hover over me but are always willing to lend a hand particularly when I'm getting my 70lb. pooches into and out of the tubs.

Awesome place!  Everyone who works here is patient, kind and helpful.  So worth the money.  My bulldog who normally hates being bathed and panics when she hears the tub running LOVED IT HERE!!  She did not struggle.  I brought my own shampoo, but used their conditioner (which smelled and still smells wonderful days later).  They also provide you with rubber aprons so you don't get wet.  Can't say enough about this place.

Laundromutt is a great place which I've been going to since it's opening! If you have a big dog or one that sheds you can't beat the set up, very easy.

I love it at Laundromutt, the staff are all really sweet, fun people who go above and beyond to help you out.  Theo especially is really great, she took the time to educate me about raw diets for my dog and how she personally treats her own dogs.  Plus my long-haired stinky girl came out of there smelling so good and it lasted almost three weeks!!  Any haters can bite me ;)

I liked Laundromutt but it was more expensive than they make it seem on their web site. At the end of it all my dog was nice and clean but it cost me 27.00. I pay 30.00 to have someone else do it. Not sure if it is worth it and perhaps we will only go again for a special occasion.

Laundromutt is a self service dog wash and it is really awesome!  For $20 you can give your dog a bath, blow dry, and brushing...prices vary depending on what you're interested in doing.  I believe the most you can spend is $25-30 and that is the works, complete with hair clipping.  The least is $5 for a simple bath and towel off.  Its a great way to spend time bonding with your dog, and saves you money on grooming too!  If you don't have the time or the patience though, they also have a professional groomer on site.  They've got some cool products and a place called the Barka Lounge where you can hang out, have dog birthday parties, etc.  The staff is awesome and super friendly, overall its just a fun place to be!  My dog Sadie and I love it!

I agree that Laudromutt is a bit on the pricey side.  I've also never been there when there wasn't an extremely long wait.

They do have a very nice setup and staff, so if you have a large dog and a small bathroom, this is a good alternative.  But since bathing my dog is easy enough to do at home, I would really only make the trip to Laundromutt if she was extremely muddy (and when the weather has been wet, everyone else has the same idea, hence the long lines), or if I wanted her to have a toenail clipping in between groomings.

so $20 might seem like a lot to take a pup to get cleaned up, but for budderick it was well worth it.

almond honey shampoo, blowdry, and the ability for bud to be around other dogs w/out feeling compelled to bite them.

they give you a bib to wear and try to make it fairly untraumatizing (is that a word?) for the little guy.  (though i'm not sure budderick felt the same since everytime we would walk by the place he would make a huge hoopla about avoiding the door)

rip budderick.  you're greatly missed.

I love laundromutt - they are so awesome.  The first time I took my dog there was during the heat wave - I was really worried about him since we didn't have a/c, and I needed to get him out of the house - but we had just got him and so I was nervous leaving him alone.  Laundromutt came to the rescue and me and the dog hung out in their barkalounge - they were super sweet about it!  The second time was to wash my dog myself - pretty cool service.  You don't get really wet, and all the mess that is made happens there instead of your own bathroom!  They all really know dogs and are really helpful.  They also have a fantastic leave in conditioner when you blow dry the dog that's included, I'd suggest using lots of it - my dog was super silky for a few good days!  Owners are really nice and often remember your dog.  It's a fun experience!  One suggestion: Call ahead on the weekend to see how long the wait is - it can be an hour sometimes! (note: I do have a huge dog a a tiny bathroom that I literally can't even get him into - so if I can't hose him off in the yard then I need to bring him here!)

I went there for the first time today, and was thoroughly impressed with this establishment.  The staff is incredibly friendly, professional, and helpful.  The cost was great ($19 wash and a $1 treat).  I have tried to bathe my one-year old Welsh Corgi at home and it is just not worth the trouble.  It makes bathing my dog a much more pleasant and easy experience.
