Delicious, high quality chocolates.  Though the shop appears small, there's a huge variety to choose from, from buttercreams to fruits to nuts, anything you could want.  There's a large window into the candy-making room, and if you're lucky you'll see them hard at work.  Easy to break your wallet here, as you will undoubtedly be tempted by all the exquisite-looking chocolates.  And yes, they taste as good as they look!  We opted to buy the large sampler box, since we couldn't decide what we wanted!

Excellent little chocolate shop.  A worthy visit.

OH
MY
GAWD!

This place totally rocked.  I could have spent my entire vacation budget on their wonderful chocolate.  Fortunately, my husband has restraint...even for these tempting morsels from heaven.

Great selection of sugar free treats as well as full powered chocolate.  They are a coffee shop as well.

Yum, YUM, Yum!!

I have not been into the shop in Stowe, but I have tasted the chocolate and it is nothing short of amazing. You can tell when you taste the chocolate here that there is lots of care and love that goes into the craftsmanship of the product. The chipotle cinnamon bar was incredible. Well accented with a good wine and fresh cherries that I added to it.
Fortunately, there is mail order and I intend to have a few more of these bars in the future. Quite simply: YUM!

You could easily spend $20 on chocolate here, go home and promptly eat it all, and then think it was not nearly enough.  Trust me, I know from experience.  Unfortunately, making a trip to Laughing Moon Chocolates requires a ride on a train, plane or automobile for me.  Ah, but they ship their chocolates!  Now the big question is whether it's worth it to pay for 2-day shipping (to ensure freshness).  Hmmm...it just might be!

Their selection sure beats Lake Champlain Chocolates on Church Street, and I think their prices are more reasonable.  Yes, $22/lb is reasonable considering I spent almost $5 on two small chocolate-covered caramel squares at LCC.  My $20 spent at LMC yielded four pretzels, two s'mores, two graham crackers, two caramel clusters, two marshmallow clusters and one maple syrup truffle - all covered in either milk (for him) or dark (for me) chocolate, of course.  And every last morsel was freakin' delicious.  Even my friend who's not a chocolate fan fell in love with their chocolate-covered ginger.  Just looking at their website makes me drool.

Aside from the high you'll get from eating their quality homemade chocolates and fudge, you'll also feel good supporting a small local business like this.  The store is really adorable, on the first floor of a two-story house.  Their website hasn't yet been updated, so don't go to their old location on Depot Street (the address on Yelp is correct, go figure).

I know that every subsequent visit to Vermont will now require a special trip to Laughing Moon Chocolates.  And I'll be sure to spend more than $20 next time!

S and I were in Stowe, VT for a weekend ski trip (March 2008). To fulfill our hunger we walked and found a small cafe for breakfast. While walking back, we found this chocolatier. We were intrigued and walked inside.

It's very cute and clean. Jane talked to us and helped us pick an assortment of truffles. There was a counter of about 30 kinds. I won't say I felt like I was in Willy Wonka land, but I did feel like one of those greedy kids and desired to eat chocolate on the spot. Chocolate has a three week shelf life, or so we were told. Too bad it won't last that long in my house.

Unfortunately, LMC has a limited assortment of sugar free items. I selected the almost bark and didn't regret it. LMC produces their chocolate items on the premises. There are two girls in the back viewable through a transparent window.

The following weekend we enjoyed the truffles with my parents-in-law. Wow that stuff is rich.

Extraordinary selection of the most amazing chocolate imaginable.  Pretty pricey, relatively speaking, but the quality's worth it.  Also sells diabetic-friendly, sugar-free chocolates, including giant Easter bunnies, Hallowe'en-themed chocolates and solid or hollow Santas in season.  All sorts of truffles and unique treats to be seen (and EATEN!).

If you're a candylover then stop by this place on a Sunday afternoon (2pm) to catch the Candycane demonstration. It was definitely cool to watch how corn syrup and sugar turned into the white candy cane base.
