17 reviews for L'auberge De Sedona Hotel
This is a resort on the creek in old town Sedona. You can walk to town in 5 mins yet you feel a world away which is good because Sedona gets very touristy (in a bad way). There is a hotel, spa and restaurant. I did not use the spa so I cannot comment on it.
HOTEL
Best place that I know of to stay in Sedona. Period. Expect to pay $400+ per night minimum for a cottage by the creek (Oak Creek). But it is worth it. The cottage we stayed in was across from the L'auberege restaurant a stones throw from the Creek. We had a nice deck with a few Adirondack chairs where we could hear the sounds of the creek. The cottage was immaculate with tasteful artwork, a wood burning fireplace, pullout couch, king bed, desk, fridge, and good size bathroom. Just beautiful. In the morning be sure to take a walk along the path by the creek where you enjoy views of the red rocks and nature at its best. There are also plenty of tables and chairs by the creek where you can read and relax all day.
RESTAURANT
Five stars. About as good as it gets in every aspect from ambiance to wine list to food to presentation to service, etc., etc. Arrive early to enjoy a glass of wine at the oh so cozy bar. If possible request a table by the window where you can have a view of the creek. Read the other reviews for details but trust me - this place is just spectacular by any standard.
Only word of caution!!!! There is major construction going on at the moment (I believe they are adding a bunch of new cottages, parking garage and pool) so be prepared to hear major construction starting at like 8:00am. Kind of annoying because it goes all day but its such a nice place that I was not that annoyed.
Difficult to review. We didn't stay nor eat or use the spa here- why? Well, we went down the old entrance, only to see it full of, and under, major construction. OK, now to find a differnent way in, because, quite frankly there is not much to do in sedona if you want a nice glass of wine! (I thought this would be 'The Place')
We find the alt. entrance: a steep and winding road deep down towards the resort. This was manned by valet and security, indicating all parking was full, but we could check. That was quite a feat of checking, pulling in, reversing, ect. We parked at the top and waited for the golf cart to take us back down.
We were dropped off in a very dimly lit, gravel area, and pointed in the direction of a pathway. While it was a beautiful nite, and the walk was through-out the property, in amung all the cozy cottages, it was weird to try and find our way to the wine bar along all this setting.
We finally arrived to a very full outside seating arrangement, along the creek. The setting was fabulous, and there were 2 seats available in the upper area, make-shift bar. There were 4 other tables, each with 2 people. We sat for about 15minutes with no servcie when I finally went to the 'bar' to ask for a wine list. After leafing thorugh this 'book' of about 30 pages, no one came to serve. We finally asked for water, which miracuously arrived.
After trying to over-come the bottle shock of the wine prices, we decided that, even though a very romantic setting, gorgeous evening, awesome surroundings, we didn't want to drop $150 on a bottle of wine - yes, that was the average, no kidding. Taking into consideration that this was 30 minutes into sitting, (and the extra 30 minutes it took to arrive ) & i was semi-peeved at this point, I thought better of staying. The staff was also way too busy with the 15ish tables for food service.
I might want to give it a try again in the future. But, I think would like to try this place during the day for breakfast or lunch. As I said, the setting is truly fabby.

We ate at L'auberege on a Monday night. It was semi busy, and the service was impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable beyond belief. He perfectly described every aspect of our menu selections as well as accompanying wine.
I had the tasting menu which was amazing.
Seared Ahi, Braised short rib with morels, foi gras, pan seared grouper with thyme, chai panettone. Everything was cooked perfectly. The portions of course were teeny being a tasting menu, but this is to be expected. This much flavor and detail attention would have been lost on bigger quantities.
My wife had lobster bisque with white truffle foam and salmon with red wine reduction. Again, it was amazing.
Between the seating next to the creek, the romantic low lighting and the magic of Sedona, this was the best dining experience of my 47 years, and I've eaten all over the world.
Thank you L'auberege!
Well, we finally did stay a night at L'auberge and it was HEAVEN! The service was so so so fabulous and the hotel itself was like staying in a fancy lodge-- with the wood fires, the decorated Christmas tree. The wine and cheese hour was classy. We woke up an enjoyed complimentary scones and coffee in the morning-- it was perfect!
The staff is very kind and helpful as well-- this always makes for a wonderful stay. Again had the brunch and it was just as fabulous as the first time.
Will come back without a doubt!

We dined at L'auberge for the Champagne Brunch they have on Sundays. It was just beautiful and… Read more »
A creekside private cabin is the way to go, with ducks on the water, red rocks in plain view and skies filled with stars. A place you just can't forget. With your own fireplace and plenty of wood, the cabin was roomy, but cozy at the same time. The hotel also offers a charming lodge/lobby with complimentary drinks and Scrabble (they had chess too, but I'm a Scrab lover) in front of the fire, you can't go wrong. The concierge, Graham made those extras stand out and be special. He arranged dinner reservations, baloon rides, pink jeep tours, you name it.
We had dinner at their restaurant, which was epic. It was like being on Top Chef at the Judges' Table. Course after course greeted us with things like bacon foam and a wild mushroom amuse busche...but DAMN, it was tasty and really unpretentious. Good stuff, save it for your nice dinner (if you have just one) and enjoy the scenery and pleasant staff (Michael was so great- sweet and knowledgeable).
The only thing that was a bit disappointing (and I won't take any stars off since the rest of the experience was great), was the spa. Ehhhh is all I can say about it. Beautiful spa setting, but I had two services and both were just okay. Plus, the woman who runs the place (or at least answers email, Cathy) ruined the whole surprise by calling my friend to confirm our massages (when she had my phone number) and ruining everything. Smooth move.

This review is for the restaurant. After a girls morning at the spa I wanted to take my friend and I to a peaceful and beautiful environment to dine at so we could recharge before visiting the Cathedral Rock vortex. I was looking forward to eating lunch at a restaurant that was supposedly dubbed 'Fine Dining'. The menu looked great for a nice hearty afternoon meal and the scenery looked even better.
Unfortunately though, the the experience was quite a disappointment. I doubt I will ever return even though the scenery and location were amazing. The hostess's attitude was both un-inviting and free of the welcoming smiles you would expect at a resort of this caliber. The only nice thing she did was to offer to sit us inside and open the window since it was getting chilly outside.
Instead of the server first introducing himself and offering us a glass of wine to start, he abrubtly put pen to pad and said, "What can I get you for lunch today?". I felt like I was at Mel's diner for a moment. Though I wanted a glass of pinot grigio or champagne, I was so turned off by his approach I opted for iced tea. He did check on us twice but that was the extent of the service. I felt as if he had already pegged us for cheapos since we were dressed comfortably after our spa visit. I guess that on top of not donning fake breasts and french tips most likely ruined any chance we had of receiving good service. I could have also been upsold coffees and dessert for my party of two, but instead I was appalled to see him bringing the check before I could ask for anything else.
While I understand we were the last lunch seating and they were probably trying to prep for dinner service, they hurt any chances of me and the ten people I tell about this experience of ever coming back to dine for dinner. Maybe they don't need the two grand?
Definitely go for the cabins--the lodge rooms are nice but not a 5 star experience. The quiet and serenity may be disturbed by construction for the next few months from now (March 2009).

A wonderfil romantic getaway!!
We stayed in a cottage overlooking the creek - so peaceful and rustic!!
The grounds are very well kept and have great walking paths surrounding.
AHHHHH the restaurant was the highlight for me - of course!!
A small, charming dining area set on 3 tiers of tables...seating no more than 50 people. The tables are under a canopy of old trees directly adjacent to the creek where you can listen to the hints of the 'babbling brook' and be entertained by the families of ducks passing by. It was a little chilly as the evening progressed so they lit up the heaters as I wrapped myself in a sweater.....candle light, fantastic meal, best service and great company - what else can I ask for?

We stayed here in February. Weather had sorta affected our plans, so we didn't make a reservation for Sedona, because we were unsure of when we would be there. We drove in late afternoon, taking Rt. 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona. Oh, my! What a drive! The trees were snow covered, the road switch backs down the mountain side. It was amazing!
Anyway, we had an idea of where we wanted to stay and what the room rates were. We called L'auberge as soon as we arrived in town. I really wanted an explanation of that $25 resort service fee. Basically, there is no tipping at L'auberge, all services are covered in that fee. I think it's a very nice idea. Anyway, they did have availability and offered a room rate that was less than their website.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were met by Jessie, the gentleman that I had been speaking with on the phone. He was kind enough to offer us a free upgrade to a cottage. How wonderful! It's like he knew it was my birthday trip! Yeah!!! He went over hotel offerings, scones & coffee for in the morning, complimentary shuttle service around town, morning duck feeding at the creek. He also offered advised about area activities and dining. How exciting! Anyway, the service here is very gracious and warm and friendly. A bell man appeared immediately to carry our luggage and lead us to our cabin. The pathway was amazing, lit by ambient lighting, we were lead under ivy covered arbors, down a cute little pathway. His name is Korelle and we learned the next day that he was from Prague and he shared his story with us as to how he came to Sedona. Our cabin was amazing, rustic on the outside, completely modern interior. The furniture was beautiful and very comfortable, the fireplace was filled with kindling, firewood stacked on the front porch. There were even fresh flowers in the bathroom. Jazz music was playing softly in our cabin. How beautiful!!
The location is awesome. It's very secluded, no noise and the views of the Red Rocks of Sedona were thrilling. And the service here is so amazing, everyone was so friendly, helpful and hospitable. I have never experienced anything like it! I love this place!

Note: This review is only for the restaurant.
For a restaurant with the local and national reputation that L'auberge has, this should NOT be considered a very good rating.
The food itself was VERY good, we'll get to that in a moment. The service was terrible, and at this price-point it should be perfect or at least near-perfect. We were completely ignored for the first 10 minutes after we were seated and given water. Completely ignored. We came VERY close to walking out and we were there on a Monday night, so the place was not at all busy. Although there was a table for two at the window we were seated away from it; a couple seated after us got it. Finally A waitress came with menus, then immediately turned her attention to other diners. When we in her earshot talked about walking out, she finally asked if we'd like to order an appetizer, but she didn't ask if we wanted a cocktail--we had to ask for one. She offered to buy one for us, as we were getting pretty irked at that point, and about 10 more minutes later we finally had one. Honestly, the water-guy and the bus staff were better than the waitress.
So, onto the food. EXCELLENT. We were given an Amuse (hey, I eat not spell,) of a spoon of very good potato salad (I think there was wasabi in it) and a champagne flute of a bacon leek soup that was SUBLIME. Unbelievably rich and creamy.
We shared an appetizer of beef carpacchio that was well prepared but a bit lacking in flavor. A smoonch of salt would have been perfect but there was none on the table and good luck getting our server to come over.
I had a lobster bisque, my wife a beet salad. I thought the bisque lacked a strong lobster flavor but it was still amazingly good. Again, creamy, rich, but still with a light smoothness that was superb. If nothing else this chef REALLY does soups! My wife's beet salad was excellent too. The highlight was this incredible tempura-fried goat cheese. There aren't enough adjectives to describe how good that cheese was.
There was a long gap before our entrees arrived, another service negative. The pacing throughout the meal was erratic. The biggest service sin was when our entrees arrived. The plates were put down, the waitress came up several minutes after they were put down, said "it looks like you have everything, did you need anything else?" and then left again. She did not describe our entrees AT ALL. That's about as bad a mistake as you can make at a restaurant like this.
I had sea bass done two ways but I really have no idea what those ways were. There were some different colored sauces, a cake-base of some kind...who knows? It was actually very good, I'd just like to have known what it was. My wife had THE BEST DUCK we've ever had. Again, who knows the preparation or the accompaniments, but the duck was fabulous. If anything the sauce was too heavy for it; it needed no help whatsoever. We love duck dishes and this truly was the best.
I'd love to have rated this place higher, the food was that good and it really should be all about the food, but at $250 for 2 people the service should have matched the meal. It turned an excellent meal into a bit of a disappointment.
Imagine a lovely setting along the creek, in the shade of the trees, babbling brook sounds, and families of ducks as your surroundings.
Then, add a lovely wine and cheese hour in late afternoon following a nice long hike, and you will feel like a millionaire.
Although the prices are a bit steep, I think one fancy outing is well deserved on a trip like this. L'auberge hotel is a hot spot for celebrities. One waiter told me that Axle Rose can be seen here at times.
There is a certain night of the week when the locals recommend this for wine tasting. (Can't remember, but I think it's Thursday). Just ask around though. Even if all you do is walk around for a bit, I think you'll feel like you are in a different world.
No nicer place for lunch. Extremely serene setting sitting along a babbling brook. The golden beet/goat cheese salad was exceptional. Service was very attentive.
My husband and I recently stayed at L'Auberge de Sedona and had our wedding ceremony at "The Hillside" location they have there.
The location and the wedding ceremony turned out beautifully, but we had a hard time tracking down anyone on the morning of the ceremony to confirm seating setup and answer some last-minute questions. Also, after putting in a request for more firewood one morning, I waited three hours and then had to call back because no one ever showed up. So I am going to ding them here a little bit on customer service and responsiveness. I don't mean to seem harsh, but when you're paying $500 a night, good service is expected!
The creekside cottages are wonderfully romantic with the wood-burning fireplaces and the babbling of Oak Creek right outside your door. It's an older property and I can tell that they've done a lot to update the cottages. The bathroom is very modern and everything about the cottages is attractive. But, although modern, the bathroom mirror and sink area is still quite small and the closet space is limited. Two people cannot get ready at the same time, so be prepared for that. Additonally, there are no other mirrors anywhere else in the cottage, so one of you can't get ready in the main cottage area while the other one is in the bathroom. It was a bit tough logistically speaking.
We had dinner at the L'Auberge de Sedona restaurant with two other people one night and we all thought it was terrible. Two of the dishes were underocooked. The French onion soup was good, but everything else was average or below average. Also, the champagne was not chilled. The wine steward also poured the first glass of champage for all of us and then never came back, which I thought was weird. We were actually shocked at how bad this place was considering the reputation it has as one of the most high-end restaurants in Sedona.
Save your money and go eat somewhere else! There was a place at Tlaqapaque Village called "Joey" where we ate one night. It was a very good Italian restaurant.
I hear that L'Auberge used to be quite awesome back in the day but has gone through a few management changes in recent years. My guess is that the new management is not running the place in a way that lives up to its bygone era reputation.

What a beautiful spot. You get your own little cottage. Each one is large and has everything a human being could want. Dreamy bed, luxury sheets, comfy couch, cashmere blankie, plasma screen t.v., large bathroom, deep tub, excellent service.
They serve afternoon wine and cheese in the reception area.
Charming creekside restaurant.
One issue : the wireless intenet was hit or miss, and even when working had very low signal strength.
Have to qualify this review as it is solely based on the creekside restaurant. If at all possible, sit outside, right along the creek. The scenery is beautiful, the water is tranquil, and the food is delicious.

we stayed in the lodge instead of the private cottages and the room was beautiful. I think that staying at lodge is better only because you are closer to everything you need and any free amenities. The turn-down service was extra special for the price. The afternoon cocktails and little bits offered to guests was especially nice and the staff was very helpful. two fireplaces keep the lodge-like sitting areas warm and cozy during the winter. It's a very upscale lodge reminiscent of the Adirondack's.

This is based on lunch via creekside dining only. We were very excited due to the wonderful creekside setting, and the resort is so charming. The only thing worth a mention is the fabulous french onion soup. The fries were not the fancy french ones I expected, just basic thick fries. The turkey sandwich was supposed to be served on hearty fruit and nut bread, they substituted grilled white bread b/c they were out. We had to ask why our $17 sandwich was not as it should have been, and instead very boring. The Croqe is grilled, so there is not cheese layer on top, very odd. The service was ok, but our food had obviously been sitting quite awhile. Probably b/c the kitchen is rather far from the tables, not a good layout.
