My husband and I have stopped at this little coffee shop twice now, and if you're going to stop at one place in Lee Vining, stop here. Their baked goods are freshly made daily and have the kind of home- cooked goodness you rarely find these days, and all four people in our party today said this was some of the best coffee they've ever had.

This review is for the cafe, not the motel!
The staff are super nice! I've been here twice, two years apart. My first visit was on a semi-busy day in June 2009. My second was last week (May 2011) on their opening day for the season. The owner worked the counter quickly and was very welcoming. The place seats about 6-8 people at small round tables covered in foreign currency under glass. Expect to pay Starbucks prices, if not a little more. I had a blended Earl Grey latte ($4) and it was better than Coffee Bean's version. I will visit again on my next trip to Lee Vining. :)

Cute and very friendly place to hangout inside or outside: from the inside you have the pleasure of seeing through a beautiful window towards a lovely garden and the mountains! And Bodie (staff) is a very nice, smart and accommodating front desk guy :) Free wifi and use of bathroom with a purchase! Good cold iced teas!  I am a fan! Rooms are in demand!

We stayed here for four days, 2 in the superior room, 2 in the standard room.
The coffee was great, the garden lovely, the rooms exactly what we needed. The staff was personable and helpful -- didn't mind resetting the router for me when I asked, were quick to tell us where we needed to get hiking lunch supplies (the Mono Mart!).
Only two negative comments: one, the upstairs shower never got warm for me at all. That said, the downstairs showers work very well and there's no reason you can't go downstairs to shower as an upstairs guest. Two, I left my soap traveling container in the downstairs shower overnight and it went missing, although the soap was left behind... oh well...

Latte Da is a very cute little coffee bar that serves great lattes.  It seats about six to eight people indoors but also has a front porch with places to sit.  There is also has a very nice garden in the back which is a very pleasant place to sit and read or converse.  It's a warm and friendly place.  Wireless has worked every time I've been there. The selection of breakfast rolls and the like could use a little boost.

Latte Da Coffee is the coffee shop cum office of the El Mono Motel.  The fact that it is about the only place to get a good cup of espresso for 100 miles in either direction is reason enough to stop here, but it is better than that.
The barista is a young woman with a pixie-ish smile who seems to have stepped out of a 1960s flower child scene.  The cafe is tastefully decorated with sayings that would make any old hippie feel right at home.  She also bakes her own pastries, which if you can tolerate the carbo overload are delicious.  And her skill at the espresso machine is outstanding.
If it is that time of day on US 395 in the East Sierras, plan on a stop here.  You will not be sorry.

I've never been to Lee Vining before this past 4th of July, but somehow I managed to stop at the Latte Da coffee shop twice in the month of July. I'm not going to lie - I didn't drive all the way there for the coffee, but I will definitely stop every time I'm in the area. They brew using only organic beans, and the coffee was fresh and delicious both times I've had it. I also highly recommend their coffee cakes - which come in handy since there aren't a whole lot of places to have breakfast in town. The staff was friendly, too. If you're passing through, definitely stop... you'll need the caffeine for the drive anyway.

I didn't stay the El Mono Hotel (attached to the coffee shop), but the rooms looked clean from what we could see. You'll get more of a local feel if you choose to stay here than you would from the Best Western up the street, but nothing in the Lee Vining is really all that "big"...

When in Lee Vining, I always come here in the mornings for coffee and the delicious pumpkin breakfast cake.  They also have a nice tea selection and they make all varieties of espresso drinks.  Their coffee is organic, which I like.

The staff are friendly.  The cafe dining area is small, but nice. They have some old memorabilia and great books on the Sierra.  The front porch is large with plenty of seating, complete with porch swing.  The back porch is also nice, with some seating and a great view of their garden.  Sunflowers and hollyhocks abound!  Happy atmosphere.  I always seem to run into interesting and nice (sometimes both) people here.

I have also stayed at the El Mono Inn, which is in the same building as the Latte Da cafe and under same ownership/management.  The rooms are decorated all differently.  What they lack in space, they make up for in charm.  No two rooms are exactly the same.

I've stayed here a handful of times -- always a nice experience.  I've stayed in a simple one-bedroom.  I've also stayed in a "suite" with two rooms and a private bathroom.  The single rooms use shared bathrooms/shower, which has never been a problem (for me and my spouse/friends).

Latte Da cafe and the El Mono Inn are open only during summer and early fall -- from Memorial Day through Nov 1.  If they were open during winter, I'd stay there on my winter excursions.

    Great coffee, great accommodations.

This is an adorable little hotel and and an adorable little cafe.  Both fall into the relaxing, indie, bohemian category with bright, cheery colors and calm friendly outdoorsy people--both workers and travelers.  This is a wonderful little haven in the mountains to sip delicious coffee on their big cozy porch or in their little cozy cafe with beautiful Mono Lake to the east and the eastern Sierra Mountains to the west.  Rooms are small but clean and functional with cheery colors and--for some rooms--a bright garden, chairs, and tables outside.  You have to step outside and down a hall to get to the tiny bathrooms and showers, but they are clean and well-maintained.  If I had to pick a place to stay awhile and write--taking day hikes in between for exercise--this would be the place.  Cares just slip away at this little gem.  Most reasonable prices in the area as well.

Latte Da has the best coffee and espresso north of Bishop.  I stop here every time I drive through Lee Vining.  They have excellent home made baked goods too.  I don't know how they do it with such a small place but the pull it off like the big boys.

A very cute and funky place, with great coffee and a fruit scone that is the best I've ever had. Lots of pretty flowers in the little courtyard, interesting books to browse, and friendly staff. Don't miss it!

We stayed a weekend at the attached hotel and lucked out that the best coffee shop was within walking distance to us, literally 20 steps.
The owner/barista is really good at pulling shots and the baked goods are unreal. I almost walked into the kitchen to steal fresh baked cookies and then was going to blame it on a bear, but I thought it may have been a bit far fetched. They have a great tea selection and a great drink called the "Doug E Fresh Fuerte" Espresso, Mexican chocolate, a bit of milk and whipped cream. Who knew a 80's rapper would make it this far?
The motel is super quaint, only two rooms have bathrooms and are about 59$ per night. The shared toilet rooms are 49$ a night. All the rooms are well appointed, very clean and have comfy beds. The shared bathrooms are two water closets and two showers, pressure is good and the rooms are heated, nice in the middle of the night. Each room also has a separate radiator heater and a TV that shows basic channels including the news from Denver Colorado for some reason. There is also free Wifi, so you can check your e-mail and news not from Denver.
I absolutely recommend staying here, but call ahead as there are only about 10 rooms.

Definitely swing by here for coffee and a treat if you're in Lee Vining. It's an adorable place: some cozy/intimate inside seating, back patio shade, and some porch spots to enjoy the morning sunshine. Free wifi I think, too.

The muffins and other treats are tasty, and a new variety each morning. The people are super nice.

And I mean super nice. Angelic, even. My dad is one of those types who enjoys a lot of attention without always bringing the strongest social skills to the table. The folks at Latte Da receive him with open arms, a smile and a quick comeback. When he's in town, his morning visits there are one of the highlights.

The facilities and garden are beautiful...I was there this morning and the icelandic poppies out front were enormous!

Cash only, a sign indicates, so come prepared.

I stayed here for 2 nights to catch the fall color display around the area.  Very affordable and clean but shared bathroom which is OK for 2 nights.  The coffee shop has good coffee and morning baked items.
