bad experience.
food was cold when delivered and forgot to bring complete order.
Then over charged me. When questioned about over charge owner/manager got arrogant and said your gonna argue over a few dollars...WTH. uh OK why don't you add up all the people who don't notice...I bet that's how you pay your rent sleeze ball...By ripping off the customers!!
Food was awful winded up throwing it away...a waste.
Don't waste your time with this place.
I LIVE for their cafe con leche and I used to get take out black beans and yellow rice w/maduros on my way home from Pilates once or twice a month, to mix with a fried egg back home- it was SUPERB and filling! I really miss doing that & Ruben's cafe con leche...
Everytime, I visit this place, I only looked at the food that are on displayed and protected by a glass. I could not make myself buy their food. It's not that I don't eat from a hot buffet. I don't see a lot of people who come by to eat or get their food here so I can only conclude that their food might be leftovers serve everyday until it's finished. The lunch price is a good deal though. Their emapandas are not something I would crave for. It's just this is the nearest one in my neighborhood.
Spanish is my all time favorite cuisine. So, living in Forest Hills, I was glad to see two (as far as I know - Latina Cabana Express and Cabana). But since I like take out, I opt for LCE. Bad move.
Before I get into their delivery practice, I will say something positive about LCE. The food is good, and the portions are very reasonable. However, DO NOT order delivery from them. They have given me a bad experience the last couple times, either they do not have change or they forgot to bring the credit card slip.
Maybe I'm just spoiled by Cafe Habana in Nolita but this place just doesn't compare. The best thing it has going for itself is the cheapness and the size of the portions. I found the menu to be generally unhelpful because it was brief as hell without any mention of what ingredients were going into it. Maybe it's my own ignorance, but if I'm going to order a grilled chicken sandwich, I'd like to know what other mysteries they might potentially add to my food. While this place has what I can tell all the basic offerings of a Cuban take out restaurant, most of them are just flat out boring. I ended up ordering chicken breasts, yellow rice, and fried sweet plantains. While the plantains were good, they didn't wow me or stand out, just like the rest of the meal. If you're looking for a cheap meal and want to try something basic then I'd check this place out, if you want to be WOWED, check out my review on Cafe Habana.
I really like this small Cuban place, and find that it surprisingly offers better tasting food than some of the larger sit-down restaurants also located in Queens. I recommend the Ropa Vieja accompanied by some yellow rice and fried plantains. If you're really hungry, go ahead and also order the rice pudding cup. Prices are affordable and quantities are good, but best yet is the quality of the food. They also offer a decent Cubano, albeit not amazing. Why is it so darn hard to find a good Cuban sandwich in New York? If you're going to visit this place, keep in mind that it's tiny, so you're either doing take-out, delivery or occupying one of the 2 or 3 stools that are located by the window. Parking is practically impossible on Austin Street, so stick to the E or F trains that will get you there quickly. LCE is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the Forest Hills area, but don't make a special trip for it. Consider it as a good place to pick up some tasty, Cuban fast food before or after catching a flick at the nearby Midway on Queens Blvd.
