No joke.... best effing cup-o-joe I've ever had... ever. Drank it black, tasted like a cup of frickin' heaven. Maybe it's cuz they roast their own beans, maybe it's cuz Flagstaff is covered in snow and it's ball freezing cold, whatever the case, awesome coffee. Smooth smooth smooth.
In a death match a cup of coffee from Late for the Train would rip the head off of Starbucks spine and all, that's how good it was.
Donna had a cup of hot chocolate. Didn't taste it myself but she said it was good.
Coffee shop was warm and toasty which thawed out the bones and had a really cool vibe. It's a converted gas station so the islands where the pumps used to be is where folks park their ice covered cars. Pretty cool.Listed in: To and from Sedona, AZ

I have it on good authority that the coffee shops of Flag have distinct crowds - I hadn't noticed, but after being keyed in, I found it to be true: this LftT location is for well-to-do hippies and middle-aged hipsters. That may sound derogatory to some, but it isn't meant to be in this case. I love this coffee shop. Converted gas station, a variety of seating, and outside of ski season, off the beaten track.
but it's the coffee...
I haven't had a bad cup of the stuff they roast here, but let's talk dark roast. Let's talk "Rez Dawg" because I appreciate a roaster doing something a little different and really making you take notice of their craft. If Rez Dawg is on tap when you visit, you owe it to yourself to get a cup and to try it before 'fixing' it up with cream or sugar. I love it. You may not because it _is_ pretty unusual. But together we're supporting the craft. dude.
If it's not on tap, get a lb in one of their kick-ass cans. The coffee will rock you and the can makes a great souvenir. -

Was short on $ since we were mountain biking but I really wanted to check out this place- it looked like a gem and cute coffee place.
I'm sorry to say that I didn't have the $ for coffee, but we were on the road with our bikes- we enjoyed a slice of lasagna for lunch, 1 soda, peanut butter cookie, and complimentary water- not bottled (for riders I assume). We had a total of $7 between us.
I would have liked to have enjoyed some coffee, but it was a bit pricey for the amount of money we had. The artichoke lasagna was delicious and the right amount for 2 sharing. Cute little place, cashier could have been a little more friendly. I would go there again if I were riding by.... -

Over the past couple years the owners of Late for Train have provided less and less for more and more. A long time patron, I often bought my beans from the shop, even paying the extra 50 cents for the "luxury" of using my debt card. But the ownership has recently cut down on the refill of its cans (sold to return customers so that they don't use as many bags), and no longer provides any loyalty incentives (punch cars, free cup of joe, etc.). Sadly they have lost our business.

We have our share of coffee shops in Chicago but I totally fell for that one.

I cannot even relate to the name since I am fortunate enough to not have to commute by train (or anything else) to work. Just relying on my two footsies, thank you very much.
But it's a cute name.
And all the drink names are railroad related - which is even cuter.
The fact that I was on vacation on the road to the Grand Canyon certainly added to the charm. But still - I stopped there twice in less than 24 hours, and would love to have it next door.
Why?!!?
- nice and friendly employees
- free AND effective/fast/reliable wifi
- adorable setting
- old fashioned bathroom, outside of the building - gas station style
- nice pastries
- a choice of sweet or spicy chai latte!! Never seen that anywhere else! It's the Southwestern twist on it; and I like it.
Just everything a coffee shop should be.
In Flagstaff or anywhere else.Listed in: Arizona

I am a coffee snob. I loathe rolling the dice at unfamilar, or even known cafes.
SUPRISE!! This ia a third wave cafe.
+ Localy roasted beans
+ Cute baristas
+ Doserless or empty doser= fresh grind for you
+ Such a fancy grinder I had never even heard of it's brand
++ The (lovely) barista cleaned the basket, and gasket and cooled the group before grinding.
+ No wierd look when I ordered a ristretto, the look was saved for when I then also ordered a cap and an Americano (for my self).
+ Golden rule followed to the second and ml.
In Flag, look no further.Listed in: Coffee=Cuisine-not*$s

Late for the Train is a killer Flagstaff tradition, and is definitely worth a try if your traveling through on your way to Snowbowl or the Grand Canyon.
The coffee is locally roasted and handled, the pastries, sandwiches, and wraps are all locally made with a decent selection of tasty choices including veggie wraps. With a wonderfully colorful and friendly staff and an excellent selection of coffees and pastries even the pickiest coffee drinkers will find this to be a welcome respite away from your favorite home cafe.
There are three locations in Flagstaff, my absolute favorite is the Fort Valley Road location which I used to live near and frequented several times a day.

Our favorite coffee in Flagstaff. This location on Fort Valley Road is much nicer, in both appearance, openess, and service to the downtown one. We have become regulars on the way back from Snowbowl in the winter. Coffee is nice and strong, smooth and tasty, with extra flavor to distinguish it from the Starbucks coffee norm. The surprises are the hot chocolate and the mochas. Fantastic work with cocoa! The Mars Hill Mocha is my personal favorite in many , many years. If you're in the neighborhood and crave a memorable cup, you can't go wrong here.

I loved the transformation of an old gas station into a coffee shop. The pumps became parking spots, garage became a room of tables, and the bathrooms were outside on the left. Charming place.
-Coffee was so-so
-Baristas were nice, good service -

Seattle, WA
I was visiting from Seattle and unsure about getting coffee out of state. I'm really picky when it comes to my daily single short americano and pretty much stick with drip when I leave the emerald city. My brother assured me that everything was going to be OK.
So I ordered my americano and watched as they prepared it. Perfectly. I swear a small tear came to my eye! I knew by the look of the crema on top that this was going to be a great cup of coffee. Not only do they know what they are doing, if I remember correctly, it's organic. Another plus. And their friendly. We went to 2 different locations a couple of times each while I was in Flagstaff and I had the same experience each time. Whew! -

They have good drinks. My fave is the spicy chai.. I think they make it themselves which is rare. There are always people there at least the one is downtown.. the one on milton is deserted.. I don't think I've seen anyone there.
I hate how they close soooo early though (thats the reason for the 3 stars).. people need coffee at night too!!
