I was on my merry little way to Father's Office by (gasp!) bus, and decided to get off a few stops early to take a long walk as it was a beautiful night. And, my punctual friends were running about half hour late. Strolling along Washington Blvd, listening to Brett Dennen on my iPod (Lil Boy Blue) I walked past what looked like a clothing store. I was rather surprised as almost everything in the area was a warehouse.
I took a quick turn into the store entrance and did a quick roundabout the store. Everything in here was of higher quality (no polyester dresses, thankyouverymuch) and affordable. The pieces I saw ranged from $49-$200. There was a designer rack in the back, which I glanced at but didn't peruse (we're heading into recession people!).
By the way, I am not a shopper. Actually, let me rephrase that, I hate shopping. I only shop when I need. This particular store was perfect as it was small, well edited and well priced. PERFECT for someone who has anxiety attacks when she walks into Nordstroms.
The owner was fantastically nice but not over bearing. Nothing is more annoying than a sales assistant who tells you the rucksack of a dress you have on, brings out the color of your doodoobrown eyes. She was the perfect amount of helpful and cheery.
A few months back, I was @ YSL and fell in love with a dress. It was $1100 and I came THISCLOSE to throwing down the Amex when reason set in- you know, like the 'Feed the Pig' commercials. shaking head: " I don't need it" and I'd be nuts to spend the money on it.
Cut to a few weeks ago and I head over to Last Chance. I found a kick-@ss knock-off of the YSL which looked good enough, certainly was a cheaper fabric but cost $60.
This place has been named on almost every insider shopping list- you know, like the ones that LA Magazine or Daily Candy will put out.
The names are more hipster than haute couture but my days of even caring about a good knock -off Birkin are long gone. Whenever I am there, it's mellow and not busy. I've walked out with everything from jewelry to t-shirts to dressy dresses. And I don't often walk out empty handed.
OK, girls. Listen up. Imagine a world with designer labels for super cheap galore, sweet store keepers that love browsers and shoppers alike, and cute clothes sorted into rainbows of colors.
That world = Last Chance.
I went with my bff & we browsed for a while and based on what I was wearing the cute storekeeper started making me a dressing room by pulling things she thought I would like. There were ultra cute skinny jeans for like $20. I tried on a few things and because she noticed I didn't wear heels, she grabbed some ready for me to try with the jeans. I didn't end up buying anything, but it didn't bother her at all. She was just excited to have us stop by. I think this place has a lot of regulars that stop by to see the new arrivals. Be ready to get addicted because the clothes selection changes pretty quickly.
I'm almost loathe to review this one well, as it is my absolute favorite place to find bargain fashion in LA. But, yelping is about sharing, so here it is ladies--the best kept secret in designer clothing. The owner/buyer has an amazing eye for the trendy and classic pieces of boutique fashion. You'll find Theory, Miss Me, Paul and Joe, Catherine Malandrino, Mimo, Mint, Cynthia Vincent, Rebecca Taylor, and more... usually 50 to 80 percent off the regular price. And without the snobbery. Elizabeth is wonderful and helpful, as are the other girls who work there.

Upon walking into the boutique, your eyes and heart dance at the possibilities. There are so many well-organized racks of clothing! And shoes! But upon further inspection, the clothes are not of great quality (I personally believe the cut or silhouette is the most important, these clothes definitely lack the cut). The shoes were not great either.
Despite this, I will definitely re-visit this boutique. Hopefully, next time there will be better fare.
I am SO glad I found this place. I'm a really picky shopper, esp with my NYC fashion snobbery and all and this place has been the best I've seen so far in the LA area for a great combination of price (most pieces are $10-100), design (casual to dressy without being over casual or over the top), and service (not too crowded and friendly sales gals).
Lots of high end designer brands at significant discounts and the styles aren't the nasty Marshalls castoffs either.
It's right across from Helms bakery so you can get a beer at the new Fathers Office after you finish your shopping too :)
I will definitely be back again for my next shopping pilgrimage.
Located near downtown Culver City this boutique is a well kept secret but worth sharing with those who love designer labels without the designer prices.
The deals at Last Chance are at least 40-80% below retail. I picked up a super cute black knit dress that I can mix and match with tons of pieces I already own along with four cute tops, two of which I let my sister and sister-in-law fight over. Designers include but are not limited to True Religion, Free People, Marc Jacobs and the list could go on.
Last Chance is the place to make repeat trips to find those perfect pieces for your wardrobe.
I'm a local and I feel like a lucky girl to have this in my neighborhood. Designer items and bargain prices, no you won't find Ross or Marshall prices but then why be common. Designers like Ella Moss, Cynthia Vincent, Mint all at 40-60% off, I rarely come out of this place empty handed. All the girls are super helpful and they'll remember you, that's how often I've visited. I almost don't want everyone to know this place, it will be slim-pickins for me :-)

She often has new designers I have never heard of. Always cutting edge... always cheaper than anywhere else. Love it!
I've checked out this place a few times. I've never bought anything from here. Still pretty pricey. I guess if you go often enough you can get good finds but the few times I've gone, I've only seen outlet-ready clothes, ones that no one wanted to buy to begin with. Sorry to break this to you ladies but if you look at some of the tags, you'd be surprised that they are the same ones you can get for REAL cheap in downtown LA.
Love this store. Always fashionable tops & dresses. All my clothes from this place always receive compliments! The ppl that work there are great and really helpful. Dont forget to feed the meters!
