I played this course only once before about 3 years ago, and all I remember is almost being blown away by hurricane like winds, and losing a lot of balls. But this weekend with this beautifully warm winter weather, it was a different story.
There was no wind, greens were nice and firm, the pace of play was good, only waited once or twice on a shot, and they had fat tire ale in cans in the beverage cart. Las Positas is a nice change from the usual boring muni courses.

Another reason I like this course was the 39 I shot on the back-9 for an all time low 9. Thank you Las Positas, i shall return..and probably shoot 104 knowing me and the crazy game of golf.

The course was in good shape, but the service and employees were rude as can be. From the phone call to make a tee time, and then to be harassed on the golf course by the marshall and the staff behind the counter to go faster.  Why? Don't know, we finshed the round in 4hrs 15mins. And the group behind us was 2 hole down from us.
I will never play here again and to top it off it was $55 to play and its only $49 to play poppyridge which is 1 mile away and way more challenging and better shape.
And the topper much nicer staff.

Paid $44 (walking rate) on Sunday 8:38am teetime.

Went as part of a foursome that include my colleague, his friend + son.  All much better players than I am, but that's another story.

Course was in pretty good condition, and practice area was pretty cool too.  I haven't walked 18 holes in a while, and that reflected on my scorecard for the back 9... anyway, the entire course was a bit wet although I'm not sure if it rained a little overnight.

Except for one hole, there isn't much of an elevation change, so it was a nice walking course.  Plus the fact that we went out relatively early in the morning (which I also haven't done in a while) made it nice.  Nothing like being out on the golf course early in the morning.

After we finished the round, we headed to the bar which was just rocking with all the NFL fans.  They have really great setup with screens surrounding the walls with all different games on.  We had couple pitchers of beer and some food... and meanwhile, I was keeping up with the score for my fantasy football... which was disastrous.

Overall, 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

For a muni course it is very well maintained and managed.

    Pros:
    Well maintained
    Uses every club
    Staff is very welcoming
    Nice pratice area

    Cons:
For a muni $50 is a little hi
Play is slow at times (took 5.5hrs on a Monday)
Snack bar is a little high even for a GC (4.25 for an average Polish dog)

Ohhh ya, and I played like cra* so that might skew this review.. Not really.

I played my first-ever game of golf here a couple weekends ago.  And it was pretty fun.  I would totally go again.  My score was just above double par for the course, but I did manage to get one "bogey" (which for me was good and exciting).

Four of us did the 9-hole executive course.  It was both cool and occasionally annoying that the course was next to the Livermore Airport.  It was mostly cool, though.  Better than being next to the freeway on the other side, I'd imagine.  One other thing to beware of here: goose poop.  There was lots of goose poop to dodge on two of the nine holes.  It was certainly manageable, but it was there.  But at least we did get to see a whole gaggle of geese ... there had to be 40 of them or something.  They barely even cared when we walked by with our golf bags.

We just walked the whole way, and none of the holes were very far.  I actually expected it to be more "exercise" than it was.  This place is obviously not a top-notch/high class/country club golf course, but the price and casual mood made it just right.

Played here on Sunday for half off. You can too, if you get a book from http://www.reddotgolf.com! (This is not a shameless plug.. as I have no affiliation with them. )

    Anyway, onto the review!

TEE BOXES - In pretty good condition. I enjoyed the fact that there was actually a noticeable difference in distance between the different colored tees, not any of this "1 yard difference" junk.

FAIRWAYS - Cut pretty low. It also helps that this course is located inland and the weather is generally hotter here. No excessive goose crap or foilage.

LAYOUT - Not too difficult for the most part, but what is with flanking the first hole with water on both sides? Or the fact that on another hole, you literally have to hit a 7-iron instead of a driver to make the dogleg without plunking your $4 Titleist ball in the lake? I guess they had to make the course challenging somehow...

PACE OF PLAY - Played as a twosome on a Sunday afternoon. Minus sitting down in the restaurant to eat, the course would have taken slightly more than 4 hours to play. Not too shabby!

FOOD - The restaurant here is pretty legit. Most golf courses have sorry little excuses for "cafes", but this place has decent burgers/sandwiches, big screen TVs everywhere with different sports to watch, and a nice clean bar area. In fact, I think most of the patrons there weren't even there playing golf, they just went for the food. Kudos to the restaurant! Watch out though, if you order food from the 9th hole, they don't put prices on the menu! Expect to pay about $10 for anything you order.

Overall, decent course, good food at the halfway point, and I got in and out of there relatively quickly. I'd play more often, but I live 30 miles away. If any of you ever drive out there, give this place a shot!

It's a public course so sees a lot of use. Greens are typically not as kept, but it IS a public course that accepts commoners like me.

If you're into airplanes flying overhead, you'll like this course - I am, but I'm a geek that likes model airplanes (still) so like that stuff. Most of my friends that play find it annoying, even if it is a vintage WWII plane put-putting overhead.

Dublin Ranch course is much nicer, but in all fairness, its much newer as well.

I took beginner golf lessons here in the spring this year. I paid 99 for five one hour lessons. I would imagine the goal is to make me a golfer where I golf more often at Las Positas and purchase my equipment from them as well but this was not the case.  The instructor knew the game and gave good instruction but I didn't feel he was passionate about what he was doing. We were promised emails that summarized what we learned and offered additional information but they never came. He would wrap things up 5-10 minutes early making us feel rushed. Finally I just didn't go to the last session but no one ever cared. I guess I had higher expectations.

for over 15 years las positas has been a favorite place to take in 18 holes of great golf.

located of of i580, las positas is one of the most underrated places to golf in the bay area. the driving range and putting green offer a great chance to warm up and beeb's sports bar is a great place for a great breakfast and a beer. the entire staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and really know how to keep up a fantastic looking course. the golf carts are some of the cleanest and fastest i have ever seen. the marshall's on the courses keep play fast and friendly and are all very nice guys. both of the courses are great but you definitely will love the 18 hole course over the executive course.

in all the years i have been playing at los positas each course is looking it's best. fantastic rates and beautiful courses out in the warm sunny air make this a great day on the links.

and if your ever looking for the best golf instruction you really need to get jeff debenedett for your each and every lesson.

Executive golf course is wide open with some nice challenging holes for the beginner golfer.  Never played the big course.  The restaurant has lots of TV's and pretty good food.

Played over the weekend and really enjoyed it (nice weather helped a bit too). The 9 hole is actually fairly long for a 9 and offers some nice par 4's. I found the 18 to be a little tough with several water hazards, long par 5's and a few dog-legs. That's not saying there was anything wrong with the course, just that Im not very good :)
It's nice for a muni compared to other courses I've played, but I do wish they would trim the rough a bit and have a better drainage system since some of the holes got a bid muddy off the fairway.
Still had a great time and can't wait to come back!

I really like this course a lot.  I play the 9 hole executive course.  As  a begining golfer it is just perfect for me and I can play it in a hour and half either after or sometimes before work. I think that it is really good value for the price.  It is tucked neatly in between a small airport and I580. They have a nice restauarant and bar to enjoy after your round.

It has been a long time since I played this course last, but I have to say this time around it was a much more enjoyable time than when I was struggling with my irons. I would definitely like to come back and play here again and even try the 9 hole except not in the summer.

Nice course, nice restaurant but the course management has been consistently pathetic and unprofessional on a number of occassions.
Each time I've played this course I've had a bad experience. On one occassion I made a Sunday tee time for 4 people, 6 days in advance but the course had no record of it when we arrived. We were not given any accommodations other than a 2 hour wait to 'possibly' get us out to play. On another occassion we were being threatened to keep up pace of play otherwise we will be told to leave and we hadn't even begun playing yet. This past Sunday we had a 7:23 tee time for 4. There was a 1.5 hour frost delay...no problem. We had breakfast and hit balls at the range. Shotgun start @ 9 and we were told to start on hole 4 and we were the lead group. The Marshall encouraged us to keep up pace of play prior to our round and we did exactly that. By hole 11 we had caught up to a slower group that had a 9:00am tee time and by the time we reached the 1st hole, we were delayed another 35 minutes while 5 other slow groups teed off ahead of us. We expressed to the front office that this was unfair and completely ridiculous and they were completely unaccommodating. I had a gift certificate for a free future round of golf but I ripped it up last night as I will never play this course again.

Course was in pretty good condition but the holes didn't seem to flow well.  However, from my experience this is the slowest muni in the bay area.  I'd give it a 3 stars for a weekday, but after playing 3 rounds and all of them comming in around 6 hours, this place is getting 2 stars.  I won't be comming back on a weekend.  20 min a hole average is just way too long.  The 9 hole is a good value with 4 par fours though.  I'll probably just play that in the future.

I played the 9 hole with my cousin. I hadn't played in a while so my game was crap but it was really nice to be out.  Although it was overcast the view was stunning with rolling hills and patches of blue skies.  We saw a fox running through the course as we walking to the next hole. If your into birds, I'm not, there were tons of them including geese (all over the place). It was nice but I was afraid I was going to hit one. I'd hate to be a goose murderer - the tremendous guilt I would feel! The planes were pretty distracting that's why I nicked off a star but I guess if you go enough people don't notice it. If your into planes there are some interesting planes that fly out of there. I saw a few bi-plane fly out of the airport and some old looking planes sitting in the airport so if your into that type of thing I would recommend you go. The course itself is great for beginners not that many difficult shots if any. There were a few hazards that you can definitely work around. We ate at the club house which I expected to be substandard because it was well... a club house.... it actually turned out to be pretty good. I had the rosemary chicken sandwich with foccacia bread and a salad. I would definitely go back to Los Positas again.

Just played here for the first time this weekend.  For a muni course, this wasn't bad.  Fees are reasonable  - we paid $56 for green + cart with a late Sunday morning tee time.  The marshall did a decent job of keeping pace of play up; I think we finished in just under 5 hours, not bad for a Sunday round at a muni.  Conditions were about average.  There were some muddy spots on the fairway I guess from bad drainage and over sprinkling since we haven't had rain in weeks.  Greens were playing true, perhaps a bit fast considering the hot conditions.  There's also a fair amount of water hazzards that made play a bit more challenging.  This course is likely suited more for beginners and intermediate level players.  There's a small airport next door so that was a bit of a distraction, but after a couple of holes, we got use to it.  The driving range was nice too, with both mat and grass tees to hit off.  My only complaint was the upkeep of the course; along with some of the muddy conditions, there were also so many leaves on the fairway and rough areas that I probably lost 2-3 balls just because it made finding the golf balls so difficult.  I wouldn't mind playing here again although next time, I would pick an early morning start time just to avoid the heat later in the day.

Will never go here again. The entire course smells like sewage, or some infant was following me dominating his diaper every hole. The guy in the pro shop was a snob, but that's expected in a pro shop. The 18 hole wasn't bad, and the tee boxes were alright, but if you're looking for a nice course in Livermore, spring up the extra cash for Wente or Poppy.
