10 reviews for Las Anitas Restaurant
This place got an A but as soon as I got my glass of water, I noticed it was dirty. Hm...
I like the chips and salsa they brought out. The salsa doesn't look fresh. Seems like it came out of a jar but I liked it that way. Nicea nd smooth.
I ordered a carne asada burrito for $11.95. I think that price is typical of Mexican restaurants. There wasn't any guacamole in the burrito and on the side they added some slices of avocado. It also came with rice. The burrito was pretty big. I probably could've finished it but didn't because I didn't want to overeat. It was filled with carne asada and beans and I think some cheese. It isn't the healthiest burrito. At least at Chipotle they give you some veggies. Not here, though.
I'd give it 4 stars because it was pretty tasty, but minus 1 for cleanliness.
I stumbled upon this restaurant on a trip to Olvera Street to check out their Mexican Independence Day festival. I was hot, tired, and hungry, but it seemed like vegan food was the last thing I'd be able to find in this neighborhood. Oh, so wrong was I! At the very end of Olvera St. right across from Cielito Lindo is Las Anitas Restaurant and their Mexican food with vegan options! I was surprised at their extensive list of vegetarian and vegan entrees, so I checked it out.
The interior is very cute and waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. The food was a little on the pricey side for what it is, but there are lots of very cheap eateries nearby so if you're looking for something economical, don't come here. I loved their chips and they had some good (albeit expensive) guacamole. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and ay yi yi-- that stuff is amazing! I highly recommend ordering this on a hot summer day when you've got some time to sit back and relax with food and conversation.
I decided not to get any of their soy meat items but instead to get a veggie taco with cabbage, beans, and salsa, which came with a side of beans and rice. Overall the food was fine, but my taco clearly had iceberg lettuce, not cabbage in it. I think some pickled cabbage would have been delicious in this, but they dropped the ball on that one. My taco was also pretty greasy, but that's not always a bad thing because the shell was super delicious.
This place is probably not the best thing on Olvera Street, but I think it deserves an extra star for being inventive with veg options and for having good food, if not great food.
One of my favorite Mexican restaurants! I LOVE their beans, and their combination plates. Definitely try their chile rellenos, the best I've ever had - I've quit ordering them anywhere else as I've yet to find any as good. Their mole is renown, and do try their mole "Pipan" style (pumpkin seed) if it's being offered - it's incredible! Also, their guacamole is fresh and binge inducing (just the fact that it's real beats the heck out of most places), I have to try not to fill up on it before my plate arrives, but I always do anyway.
It's one of the more down to earth, family oriented restaurants on the strip. All the families that come by on Sundays after mass down the street can't be wrong. Definitely for people who know their real Mexican food. If you want Americanized loveless food served with margaritas galore go to one of the fancier ones down the alley.
A couple of days agos, my friend of mine i were on OLVERA STREET in china town LA looking for day of the dead things and we happened upon LAS ANITAS RESTAURANT , a small, charming, and colorful restaurant, it is located at the end of olvera street near cesar chaves avenue, i had the pipian A PUNPKIIN SEED MOLE dish with shrimp, and it was delicious my friend had the pork ribs with nopales or cactus pads and green sauce, he said it was like he had in Mexico. the service was warm and hospitable and the place is cozy we highly recommend the place when you are in the area we want to go back and try some of their other dishes
Blah. I wish I had read the reviews first. Yesterday after strolling down Olvera Street we decided to grab a bite to eat. I had the bright idea as we were leaving, so Las Anitas was the closest sit-down establishment. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with pumpkin seed mole sauce. I love mole, but the sauce here was thick, heavy, and salty. Complex flavors which I expect in a mole were absent. To make matters even worse, the shredded cheese inside my enchilada wasn't even melted. Our dishes came with rice and refried beans, which were both OK. The chips and salsa served to start were decent, not great. Our two enchilada plates and two sodas came out to about $30.
Service was slow. Our waitress took away my empty soda cup and never returned with another one, so either no free refills or forgetful service. No hard liquor either, so I couldn't drown the sorrows of a lousy meal with a good margarita.
Yesterday was my first, and last, time eating at Las Anitas.
My only excuse - I WAS STARVING! And it was the first thing on the corner that we ran into. The only good thing about this place was the horchata.
I ordered a TWELVE DOLLAR carne asada burrito. I should have saved the money and went to Chipotle instead. Seriously...it was that bad that I would have rather had a "fast food" Americanized version of a burrito than this crap.
The salsa seriously looked like it came out of a jar of store brand chunky salsa. The meat had a weird taste, and who the hell puts lima beans in Mexican rice?
Never, never, never again.
I love going to Las Anitas. The atmosphere is cozy and colorful. The guacomole is delicious! I always end up eating way too much here and then wandering around Olvera with a food coma. Its excellent!
I don't recall what I ate the last time I was here (over a year ago) but I do remember that Las Anitas charmed the pants off of me. Their rustic furniture, friendly service, colorful pastel walls... very inviting, especially for Olvera Street. Not that Las Anitas doesn't fit on Olvera Street but it offers a unique, quieter experience. I recall enjoying the food and feeling right at home.

This is possibly the worst restaurant you can go to in Olvera St. I could get better Mexican food at Taco Bell and I mean that as an insult! I ordered the "Anitas' Special" which included a taco, rice, and beans and the beans were barely edible, the taco was gringo style and INedible, the meat in the taco, which was supposed to be beef, didn't even look like meat, and to top things off the waiter gave me and my friend ATTITUDE when we told him we weren't happy with the food. The waiter then proceeded to mistreat us the rest of our stay. It was a horrible experience and I urge you all to avoid the place at all costs!
Horrible food! Way too gringo for me! Their salsa tasted like it had ketchup in it, and I ordered their Mole Poblano and it was f***ing inedible! Unless you are coming here for drinks, you are wasting your time since a margarita was the only thing they got right! They only had one waiter and he was very defensive and rude when we told him that we were not satisfied with their food. Please AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
