Dan was my mechanic from the day he opened up his shop. He's honest, does good work that he stands behind, and has reasonable prices. He'll talk to you about your car problems, explain things clearly, help you prioritize work if you don't want to do things all at once. Absolutely no gender bias: he treats his female customers who know nothing about cars with the same care and respect that he gives anyone else, and he tolerates people like me who are in love with their cars and want to talk about them incessently with good grace. I've moved, and I miss Dan more than anyone else in Seattle.
I've used other places, before Dan opened his shop and during a hiatus that he took, and I never found Dan's equal for quality, price and genuine care. Your Volvo will be happy with Dan. -

Let me just preface this review with a little bit of information: I've never been in this shop (I was on my way to do so) and I've never even met the man face-to-face, but he has already secured any Volvo repair work that I may need to have done in the future. I called Larson's to schedule an appointment for my sick Volvo. I spoke with Dan himself (it's a one-man operation) and with only my poor description of the problem, he quickly diagnosed it and told me how to fix it! Awesome! I know that he was extremely busy, but the fact that he took the time to jaw a bit with me on the phone and offer some (free) advice speaks volumes to his integrity and level of customer service. I look forward to supporting his business. Well... In all honesty, I hope my Volvo doesn't break down (knock on wood); but in the event that it does I will take it to Larson's.

Dan Larson is that extremely rare commodity in car repair - honest, straight-talking and unusually generous with his time. I read the other review of him after prior screwjobs from Seattle mechanics. I called to sheepishly askl about a bundle of quirky issues on our Volvo. He gave me a general reaction (he typically doesn't work on our model - a '93 960). But told me to stop by. Which was the smartest thing I've done with this car in years. He replaced a blown fuse, checked through a wide array of things and then - here's the kicker - didn't charge me a thing. Dan's the best. Plus his co-mechanic/apprentice is his daughter. If you have a Volvo and live in Seattle, you can do absolutely no better than Dan Larson.

I was driving home on a dreary, typically rainy Sunday; stopped at a light. I put the car in gear and "KERPLUNK"- it felt like the tranny fell from underneath my poor old volvo. After a cautious ride home- I called Dan and left a message on his voicemail-just to see if he could take a look at the old girl sometime during the week. To my surprise Dan called me back within an hour (ON A SUNDAY- MIND YOU) and told me to bring her on by next morning. Which I did- he then gave me a rundown of what was wrong with the car (broken motor mounts) and then proceeded to make a priority list of what work needs to be done and when. He actually took me under the car and pointed out a few things. He told me the car is in fine shape with just the motor mounts, and didn't want me to spend more money than I should...He then quoted me a very fair price ( I checked the going rates and he was beyond reasonable) and told me to pick it up later that afternoon. I told him that I was going to be working until the evening and he arranged to have my car parked at the Safeway across the street- the guy is top notch. If you have a volvo- do it and yourself a favor- take yer car to Dan.

FYI, He only fixes rear wheel drive vehicles. Super nice on the phone and he referred me and my 2000 Volvo down the street to Daisywagen, which I have been impressed with.

Hello my name is Dan Larson I'll skip the long story about how at 8 yo. I was tearing apart radios to get the magnets out of the speakers, to go carts at 11, and when I had my first car at 14 and my mother coming home from to work to find the engine from it torn apart on the dinning room floor, to working on all my friends cars though high school. So much for the short story lol. After high school I worked at various non-Volvo car dealerships untill about 1982 when I went to work for a small Volvo repair shop. After a couple years there I moved to a Volvo dealer where I took factory training courses. Then in the summer of 1989 I started on my own in the same location I am today. I am small, just me and my daughter Shannon working the shop. We only work on rear wheel drive Volvos and still recomend them as the best Volvos to own! Thanks, Dan Larson

I would like to tell you a little about my daughter Shannon. Shes the love of my life first of all, and after that she does all the things I'm horrible at like deskwork/paperwork, taxes, paying bills that kind of thing. But not only that, she is very smart with the cars, always surprising me with her growing knowledge. And moreover I have never had anything she's done come back. I can honestly say that when shannon has done it, it's been done right!
