    (Now changed to Lola's)
Not only is this a great hangout place for people of all ages, but it's pretty much the only place that has a classy and community feel in New Ulm. Because it is one of the only non-chain establishments in the town, it gives a nice break from what can be mundane and generic in contemporary small town America.
Aside from the big-city, small intimate cafe feel of Lola's, the waitstaff is more than amazing at filling your crafty drink order, serving you a fresh, yet sinful desert or pastry, or making you an entree with ingredients that can't be found unless you venture to the culinary capitals of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
So if you're looking for something other than Taco John's, Dairy Queen, Perkins, or the Ulmer Cafe, certainly venture here.
It's a great place just for affordable coffee/tea time with friends, a quick more wholesome/hearty take-out, or a lazy lunch afternoon with friends.

My original plan was to grab Subway for lunch, but the meanderer in me led me to downtown New Ulm, where I drove by this American bistro.  I popped in for lunch here instead.

Lola's offers a wide array of salads, sandwiches, and some hot appetizers, along with your coffee shop drinks and pastries.  My turtle drink was tasty, while the caramel pull-apart pastry (tasted like a cinnamon roll) was a little stale.  I'm sure it was baked fresh some day.

The Cuban sandwich called to me, and I enjoyed it, though it was a little heavy handed on the raw red onions.

I'm sure I will be back, as this is one of the cuter and quainter places in town, from what I gathered.

    Atmosphere: excellent
Food: above average (for my kids and I)- my wife would rate her salad at a .5 star. Extremely salty. Would have given an overall 4 stars if she had liked her asian chicken salad.

This is a very nice place and a great discovery for someone making a short visit to town. I really like New Ulm and this was a great place to relax and have a very good meal and get a little feel for the community. Plus the food was terrific. Hope that it will still be there the next time I come around.

Inside this unusually long shop there are places to lounge, drink coffee and chat.  Then the walls are set up to look like a mock German village and the restaurant would be the alley; a chick would say that'd be cute.  You get the idea.

Their sandwiches and their desserts are great for lunch.  I go with the New Ulm (I choose Turkey instead of Roast Beef) and ask for it nicely grilled with their homemade kettle chips.  Also, of note are their soups like Tomato Basil and Unstuffed Pepper.  The staff is the same friendly guy and girl with glasses often and they rock.  6 or 7 bucks for a nice cozy lunch that doesn't necessarily involve thin fried pork, a rarity in the proximity.

A good tip is to postpone lunch until after 1 for much less of a line.

As a native New Ulmite, this was my go-to spot with friends for coffee and hanging out on a late night. It was the only place in town (aside from Perkins, which, gross.) that was open past 9pm where we could just sit in the plush chairs and talk while we enjoyed some delicious baked goods and sandwiches. Naturally, I was devastated when I was told that they had closed last year.

However, they have recently reopened under new ownership (in fact, I am sitting here right now taking advantage of the free wi-fi)! I was a little skeptical at first because I was afraid the place would lose its laid-back and calming atmosphere or the food wouldn't be as yummy. The food is different, as it is now "Lola's Larkspur Market" and offers Italian sandwiches and pastas, but it is just as delicious.

I just enjoyed a muffaletta sandwich that was delightfully warmed and tasty, along with a chai latte. The service remains friendly, the atmosphere inviting, and the amazing baked goods are still here. Its a great spacious dining area and perfect for a large group of friends or someone like me, who doesn't have wireless in her parent's house over spring break and needs to find it elsewhere.

I am so happy this place has reopened without losing any of what people loved about it before and in fact improving upon the menu. The only downside? They close at 7pm now. At least now I'm old enough to go to the bars.

I came to New Ulm thinking something like Lola's may not exist here in a German centric, rural, sleepy town. I was wrong! and very happy to find a place where  the food is simply delicious. A thoughtful menu, where fresh ingredients are a staple. All the baked goods are dripping with goodness, and the staff is friendly, helpful and always has a good recommendation. happy eating.

Free wifi, great coffee, fresh and excellent food, and great service.  This sunlit, classic coffee shop has everything I need when having to kill lots of time in small town America.  Make it your first destination when you arrive in New Ulm.
