we sat at the chef's counter and got to watch the cooks do their thang - i was mesmerized by the "kitchen choreograpy" and want to take my daughters here so they can watch - it was like lunch and a show for me!
my friend kept talking about the bacon wrapped meatloaf and i kept thinking to myself how hard it was for me to get excited over the meatloaf, until i tried it!
AWESOME!! I enjoyed every delectable bite!
Drinks and service was awesome too, i am definitely going back! -

I took my parents out to Lark Creek and had a nice dinner. The service was exceptional. The food was rather good.
I've seen this place for years and had never stepped in for food. I suppose my expectations were a bit different from what I experienced. I thought it was an upscale "fancy" place. The service and ambiance/decor did validate that, but the menu was very... well... plain.
It's a great place for what I would consider "home" cooking. Not necessarily somewhere I'd go again for a fancy meal.
Very happy with the wait staff. Exceptionally professional. -

Walnut Creek, CA
I've been here twice and both times on a week night and special occassions. I love the ambiance of this place-it's cozy and warm yet "happening" enough to fit in with other dining establishments in downtown Walnut Creek. I love to support restaurants that use organic ingredients and where possible, local and appreciate the fact that they mark on the menu which items are vegan, vegetarian or gluten free. They pay attention to special diets and specifically say if you have a special request to notify your server.
On the night I went recently, I had the County Line salad with goat cheese, baby greens, pumpkin seeds and roasted squash as my starter. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the warm roasted squash on a cold salad but it worked well and the salad wasn't too large but just right for an appetizer and was very flavorful. For my main course, I got the small plate of sundried tomatoe pasta. They were able to accomodate my request for no olives and the dish itself was amazing. The sundried tomato sauce had a not too sweet/not too spicy flavor to it and I enjoyed every bite.
My boyfriend got the daily special combo plate, which on this night was a full turkey dinner-potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce-the works! He enjoyed that very much and his portions were pretty hefty.
Our server was prompt, pleasant and attentive.
I can't say enough nice things about this place and it was perfect for the anniversary dinner we chose to spend here. -

Moraga, CA
We have never had a bad meal at Lark Creek. The service is excellent (especially if your server is Daniel), the ambiance is pleasant--but it can get a little loud sometimes. One of the absolute smash hits from the menu is the bacon-wrapped meatloaf. I would usually not order this when I'm dining at a nice restaurant because I have two meatloaf recipes we really like, but several people had told me how good it was, so I went for it. I was not disiappointed. It came with horseradish mashed potatoes, which were delicious, and nicely al dente vegetables. We took half of it home for dinner the next night. We were also given very good rolls before we ordered.
We have had the pot roast, but it's definitely not as good as Esin's.
Went again last night night with friends and was torn between the ribs (a Monday special) and the bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, but finally decided on the pork. My husband later mentioned that we had pork chops at home, but after I had had the tenderloin I told him that any relation between their tenderloin and a pork chop was like comparing filet mignon to ground beef. I swear I could have cut the tenderloin with my fork! I substituted mashed potatoes for the squash on the menu and our server Lindsay was very happy to do that for me. Everyone else in our party had the meatloaf and they demolished it completely.
My husband and I split the blueberry bread pudding for dessert and it was adequate.
The only negative is the one time I ordered onion rings. I think most people have a pretty consistent idea of what a ring is. It's a circle, and onion rings usually come coated with a crunchy batter. These were onion strings, very thinly cut, definitely not doughnut-shaped. I will not order them again.

I absolutely loved my filet mignon. It was cooked the right way and the risotto was great. I definitely enjoyed my meal. It was so cute, after dinner they brought us a cute little caramel candy! That was good too!

Solid neo-classic American comfort food in a comfortable setting.
We started with some cocktails and the Pink Peppercorn Shrimp with Spaghetti Squash appetizer. Was very good.
I had the NY Strip with Rosemary fries (overcooked - I asked for medium rare, got medium well).
Wife had the Prime Rib with twice baked potato and creamed spinach (very good).
My son had the Yankee Pot Roast with roasted root vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes (he swooned).
We rounded it out with some Mac n' Cheese (devine!) on the side to share.
Finished with an incredible Banana Bread Pudding, thick Strawberry shake and Chocolate Pie with Chantilly Creme.
This is a good place to order main courses for yourselves, but share appetizers, salads, sides and desserts.
The service could have been better, as in more attentive - we had to wait a bit to order, but the drinks did come quickly. -

I always think to come to this place when I want comfort food. The pot roast over mashed potatoes is amazing! By far one of my favorite dishes. The cuts of meat they serve are of good quality and cooked pretty well.
The atmosphere and service is great! -

One of the more consistent quality restaurants in the ever-changing downtown of WC. The meatloaf is delicious, and they have a great selection of cocktails.
However... I experienced truly awful service one time while seated outside. I feel that they sometimes neglect the outdoor diners (WC doesn't have enough outdoor dining for a city with a 6-month summer, but that's another conversation altogether). The restaurant redeemed itself, sort of, with complimentary desserts and a much-deserved apology.
Overall, a great place. -

We went there for Thanksgiving in the evening, just for a couple of drinks and to munch on something sweet. (no reservation)
When we got there, we told the waiter that we were there just to have a couple of drinks and for something sweet. That was enough to make him realize that he wouldn't make money on a big tip, so he was very fast taking the menu out of our hands after ordering our drinks. Almost as fast as Superman.
Although we ordered Mango Mojito, I couldn't taste the mango, the taste of the rum was extremely too strong and too much mint. My boyfriend asked if he got the regular Mojitos or Mango Mojitos, the waiter answered him that those were mango mojitos. We said we couldn't taste the mango. He said that "in the past" they used to make the drink mix with mango puree. No offerings to get a new drink or anything like that. We also asked to change our table, what was denied.
Not so pleasant experience... -

realy enjoy this place. The wines by the glass are good pours and a nice selection of choices. The fugi apples salad with blue cheese is a bit too small , but very tasty. they just need to make the serving a bit bigger. I've had several of their entree's and they have all been very good. I actually have not had a bad meal there. Service is good and you don;thave to ask to have yoru water glass refilled. thye are on it.
Also have a lot of gluten free options. -

We took my parents here for dinner before seeing a show at Lesher. This was my first time coming to Lark Creek and it was a nice meal, but nothing extra special that sticks out for me.
I enjoyed that there is the Jeff and Jerr's Healthy 3 course menu which I was able to easily adapt to my gluten free/paleo eating plan, by doubling up on the veggies and skipping the quinoa. It was very tasty.
My husband had the prime rib which was nicely trimmed of the fat. I always hate when you order meat and 1/3 of it is really fat.
My parents (because they're old and have little bellies-haha) shared the prime rib as well.
Our waiter was very nice and it was a nice experience. Service was a little slow and we wound up having to rush through the end of dinner and not order dessert or else we would have missed the show.
I was a little bummed about that. It was also a pretty expensive meal considering 2 people shared one and we didn't have time for dessert.
It was a nice meal, and I'm sure I'll return, but I wouldn't come back before trying all the other restaurants that I still haven't tried. It was nice, but not enough to make me rush to come back. -

Had a very pleasant experience here last night. For starters, I emailed the manager asking him for a list of dishes that were "safe" for me to eat as I have a corn allergy. He wrote me back right away, so I really appreciate that! I had the half chicken and it was delish. The flat bread with arugula and bacon was pretty yummy as an appetizer. Our server was really friendly and helpful.
All in all, everyone seemed to enjoy their food and it's a nice atmosphere with a good location. However it was a little pricey. -

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with some coworkers. We started at the bar. Only two beers on tap but the bartender pointed us towards a great IPA.
We sat outside and our server was promptly there. He knew the menu extremely well including how the dishes were prepared. We started with a few appetizers and highly reccomend the mussels and chorizo. The others in my party had the butter nut squash flatbread and were very complimentary.
Burger was prepared perfectly and I wouldn't hesitate to order again. As our meal went on, the server became less and less available. The only downside to the meal. -
Review from Eileen H.
I've been to Lark Creek Walnut Creek a few times, and while I can't say I've had a bad experience there, I can say that I've never had an outstanding or even above average experience.
The last time I went was a couple of months ago for my husband's birthday. We had a reservation and we were seated right away by the hostess who, after I had given her my name, didn't say two words to us after saying "Follow me." Bad start.
Our server wasn't much nicer, although he HAD to talk to us. He seemed like he was forcing himself to try to be pleasant, but it was obviously not sincere.
As for the food, the best thing we had between the two of us was the Fuji apple and romaine salad that I had ordered. It had blue cheese and 'spicy walnuts', although the walnuts just tasted like regular walnuts to me. For our entrees, he had the salmon and I had the paella. Both entrees were quite underwhelming. The paella was from their wood oven dinner menu, and it seemed like it had been left in there a bit too long. The shells on the mussels were burnt so they disintegrated as soon as I picked one up. The pieces of chorizo and also the chicken was so overdone that they were dry. Plus, the whole dish was oily. :(
The only good thing about it were the prawns. I tasted my hubby's salmon and it was very, very bland.
I can honestly say that despite the reputation of the Lark Creek name (one of the best meals of my life was at Lark Creek Steak at San Francisco Center), there was nothing about this visit (or any of my previous ones) that would inspire me to return to Lark Creek in Walnut Creek. -

The place is is walnut creek and looks it. Lots of women in their 40s trying to look 30, excessively tanned cleavage all over the place and fat men wearing driving gloves even when they're not driving.
I went not knowing that it was an organic and sustainable restaurant.
Dont care. If the food isnt good whats the point!
Had a walnut salad to start, pretty good but kind of hard to mess up. A fat ape with learning disabilities could make that in his sleep.
Then for main course had a chicken wrap. It was a bit on the heavy side and came with what seemed like potato chips out of a bag. I didnt realize it came with and didnt eat them.
The one strong point was our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Id say its about par for WC. Not a poor experience, just nothing too special. -

Located in the heart of downtown, Lark Cafe has the most scenic patio on Locust- nestled w some trees, plants and decor. Inside, the atmosphere is casual but upscale. The food is typical American cuisine w roasts, steaks and pasta. I ordered the steak. I asked for med rare, received well. The veggies were chewy and over seasoned. My husband enjoyed his meal w/o comment. The service was friendly but could have been more attentive especially when my water glass was empty. The price is on the expensive side - but average priced in comparison w other upscale WC establishments. Overall, Lark is a hit and miss. I would give it another try. Love the location and it's atmosphere - but disappointed that for the price, the quality of my food was lackluster.

I took a date to Lark Creek last week and honestly, the evening started off poorly. My bad for not making reservatoins, but there appeared to be several empty tables at 8pm. They sat us at a table with a large flower vase next to it where the flowers essentially obscured my view across the table. I asked our waitress (who was also tending bar)if we could move to an unoccupied table and was rebuffed.
The manager stopped by and asked how things were going and I said, "OK. She said she wanted our dinner to be awesome and asked what could she do. I said we could sit over there, a nice table against the window. She moved us right away and we had a great meal and fantastic service for the remainder of the evening. No imported wines, so they don't get 5 stars. Our meal was quite good though. -

I met my daughter and her boyfriend and my son for Brunch at Lark Creek at noon on Sunday
I had dined at other Lark Creek restaurants so I was expecting good food and a pleasant ambience.
When we ordered off the lunch menu, which we had reviewed online prior to arriving, we were told that since it was Brunch, these items were not available
I ordered an egg plate with Egg Beaters
When it arrived it looked like whole scrambled eggs
When I asked to have this replaced with what I had ordered , the manager came and told me that they didn't have egg beaters and she would be happy to bring me something else (The waiter had assured me that they did have egg beaters when I ordered) By this time everyone else was eating.
Each interaction with the wait staff and/or management took so long that the meal dragged on for over 1 1/2 hrs despite the fact that the restaurant was only one half full.
My son did not like his corned beef hash. My daughter's "Paella" was not good--made with Risotto instead of rice and very strangely seasoned.
As mentioned, the service was very poor.
The coffee was good. they did remove my egg dish from the check, however, the check still totaled above 130.00. I would NOT return or recommend Lark Creek. -
Review from Bryce B.
A solid example of seasonal cuisine served up in a warm, inviting space, Lark Creek seems like the kinds of dependable restaurant that could be a regular spot for the locals.
I went on a Saturday and it was a good thing I had a reservation; the place was packed. Actually had to chill out at the bar for 10 minutes before being seated. Perusing the menu revealed a list of sturdy, comforting dishes.
Started with the English pea and butter lettuce soup. Very clean and sliky (without any noticeable signs of cream), the lettuce lending a fresh component.
I'm not the biggest fan of prime rib, but it was the special of the day and did feature a twice-baked potato, so I opted for that. The prime rib was tender and perfectly roasted. The thing I dislike about prime rib, the fattiness, was not an issue. Both of the sides, the aforementioned potato and creamed spinach complimented the main dish very well. All in all, it was a satisfying meal.
One *minor* issue, and this has to do with their coffee service. Coffee is brewed in a French press, which for me is a huge win. However, they do not let the coffee steep for the appropriate amount of time (which, in case you are wondering, is about 5 minutes.) Rather, they almost immediately push down the plunger after adding the hot water.
Service was pleasant and very efficient. No complaints here whatsoever.
Overall a great experience and a place I'd return to. -

I haven't written a One star review in a long time. Walked into Lark Street at 11:30 am today for lunch by myself. Let me preface that I am 7 months pregnant and easy to see. I am standing at the hostess stand for a while before anyone greets me. A woman finally greets me and asks if I have a reservation? There are literally two people in the restaurant. I say no she indicates that really the only way for me to eat there is to sit at the bar. Once again lets mention I am 7 months pregnant there are TWO people in the restaurant.
I sit at the bar and am a little miffed. However I decide to get over it
because I am looking forward to some high quality food. I order the "healthy" chicken sandwich meal for lunch. Sandwich arrives looks appealing enough. Unfortunately at first bite I am greeted by a HUGE piece of grisly fat. I open the sandwich to find out that this is a huge line of fat down the entire breast. I end up being able to eat 1/4 of sandwich and only do so becuase I am starving. This was the lowest quality food I have had in a long time. A Mc donalds chicken sandwich would have been better. I am sorry but for a restaurant at this price point ($15.95 for a lunch meal) a grisly piece of fat in a chicken breast is unacceptable. I will not be returning. -

Been here several times.. Never had a poor meal and must say the staff was very friendly. Each time this place was booked so apparently they are doing something right. Love their pot roast and desert.
Half to laugh at the review below related to cleavage and racing gloves. Are you there to enjoy a good meal or ignore your other half and look at othe womans cleavage...LOL -

Every time i dine here, i always leave happy and full... Costco Danville carries their gift cards, $80 for $100 worth of food n fare which is AWESOME!! Only downer, those gift cards are not valid towards tip and wish they were (I know the costco Fleming's card work for tip!)
Moving on...the food is always good here and the service is always a pleasure and prompt. i've never had a bad meal....and i LOVE the baguettes they serve once you've ordered. great wine selection! and i will say, i can't really speak for the meatloaf...im not much into meatloaf in general but they just claim it's amazing and if you're not a conisseur then don't bother. i LOVED my halibut, it was sooo good!
consistently a good dining experience...just for special occassions, not every night since it's a bit pricey, but like i said the costco gift cards are the way to go! -

We recently had dinner here and everything was delicious. This was my 1st time. On a early Friday nite dinner (5ish) we just walked right on in and they sat us down without a problem (no reservations) they have streetside seating as well...So bread/butter was brought to the table, tho is was soft inside but hard outside..I was hungry so I was nawing away. The inside of the restaurant is a combinating of airy, warm, inviting, romantic. The host was very pleasant.
My husband had the meatloaf and I had the pork. Both were very good! I had 1 signature cocktail the "antioxidant intoxicant"
Hanger one "buddah's hand vodka, veev acai liqueur,
pomegranate liqueur, cranberry & pineapple and 1 glass of house white with dinner...was perfect. I couldn't remember our waiter's name, but he was very attentive and gracious. -

We went here for a special pre-Christmas dinner and were very disappointed in the service. Our waiter disappeared to go fold napkins and never checked on us. He seemed grumpy and robotic. We ordered meatloaf and pot roast which were ok. A chocolate dessert was much too sweet and tasted like a hostess cupcake layered with ice cream and whipcream.

I had been wanting to go here for some time. My girlfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here Saturday night. The place was full of people celebrating graduations. I really liked the atmosphere and the decor here. The service was good, nothing amazing, but good.
Most of the time my girlfriend and I have a strict no-getting-the-same-thing-on-the-menu policy. Lark Creek broke this for us as we both really wanted the bacon wrapped meatloaf. They offer a couple different dishes in a pre-fix menu, so we both opted for that. For $30 you get soup/salad, main course, and dessert. I was not impressed with the pea/butter lettuce soup at all. My meatloaf was good. I did have pretty high expectations given it's reputation and the waiter talking it up. I probably would try something else next time, but it was good. The best part of the meal was the granny smith apple bread pudding with caramel creme anglaise...fantastic!
This place is not inexpensive, but good value considering the quality of food we eat. I will be back. -

I've eaten here with mixed results over the years, as there are few dining options in Walnut Creek. My last experience was OK, so we came back for Thanksgiving because mom is too old to travel elsewhere. What a mistake! While the appetizers were fine, the main course of turkey and fixins, was inedible. I don't know what parts of the turkey we were eating or how they were prepared, but both dark and white meat were gristle, tough and inedible. The waiter was nice, although he had no idea how to pour Perrier Jouet, foaming bubbles like it was a cheap draft beer. I feel like the management just ripped us all off with a consciously prepared meal of disgusting crap. We, optimistically, tried to salvage the leftovers the next day with wonderful new gravy and other nice touches. I had one bite and had to throw the rest in the garbage disposal. How hard is it to cook a decent turkey for $$$$? Total ripoff and disgrace. Never again! If I have to eat Thanksgiving in that area again, I'll go back to the Duck Club, which sucks a little less.

Danville, CA
Mrs Coot and I first visited Lark Creek when we moved to town a little over 2 years ago. The most memorable of that visit was that it was their last night before they closed for renovations and the management was offering to sell the furnishings and artwork.
Mrs Coot and I returned recently; not much has changed other than the art work. With that said, the hot crab dip was out of this world. Absolutely one of the best I've had in years. Mrs Coot ordered the Steelhead with seared, asparagus hash & charred spring onion relish. The fish was good but the "hash" was really steamed vegetables. I had the Crab Stuffed Petale Sole with pan seared, herbed quinoa & braised fennel. In actuality it was a soupy concoction with what appeared to be steamed fish.
Desert was the highlight of the meal. We split the Warm Granny Smith Apple & Huckleberry Crisp with vanilla bean ice cream. Outstanding! Especially with a snifter of Calvados. Would have been so much better if the Calvados was warmed - but it wasn't even offered.
We may be back in another 2 years. -

cute lunch spot.
went here with a group of colleagues and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. to start we shared the heirloom tomato salad, fresh monterey calamari, and the bread. oh my goodness, the bread was warm and SOOOO good.
for lunch i had bacon wrapped meatloaf sandwich. it was really good. the size was a little bit daunting, after a half sandwich i was stuffed. we shared a couple side orders of mac n cheese (super yummy) and sweet onion rings (a lil on the salty side). Other things we sampled were the vegetarian paella (which i heard was delicious), the prime rib special sandwich (those who ordered this raved about it, it was so big they each had leftovers).
i really enjoyed my experience at this place. Not too crowded, good options, and fast service. Parking in a garage around the corner (with validation). n i will definitely be back! -

I had lunch at Lark Creek today for the first time and was really impressed with the food and setting. The spinach and artichoke dip - as Drake would say, was "the best I've ever had... best I ever had". They serve the dip with slices of sourdough bread and fried ravioli chips. For my entree, I had the Penne Pasta which was ok. I'm not a huge fan of tomato sauce, but thought I'd give it a try. Once again, it was ok. For dessert, I had the butterscotch pudding and it was SO friggin good. I'm not even exaggerating when I say it was the best.... it WAS THEE BEST. Very thick and creamy and oh soOo nom nom nom.
Not too pricey considering the location. I would definitely eat there every day if I could.
Oh, and the staff were great! -

Went on a Sat. morning for brunch. I had the parrapalla pasta dish. Chanterelle mushrooms & warmed ricotta. Delish. The rest of our party had the standard breakfast dishes. My pasta was outstanding with a deep & harty mushroom taste. We were seated next to a servers station even tho there were better seats available. We decided not to make a fuss & stay there. I was grossed out by our server, Davids, clothing. His vest was dirty and his apron was filthy and stained. Nothing a washing machine couldn't have taken care of.

If I had never been to the namesake restaurant in Larkspur, I'd say this is a decent lunch place. The food was OK, but nothing special. The Tamale pancake was the kind of thing I'd whip up at home if I were abandoned for dinner, since I I'm not the cook in the house... I will say the flat breed app was very good, and the outdoor seating is pleasant. Fairly affordable place too, so I wouldn't completely nix it.

It was the traditional champagne and omelet brunch for me at Lark Creek on Sunday. The rain could not dampen our spirits as we happily ate and watched the rain stop and start, then stop again.
My omelet was cooked to perfection, with every vegetable known to man (or so it seemed) tucked away inside. Accompanying the omelet were some of the crispiest potatoes I've ever eaten--pure perfection. Top that with a glass of Gloria Ferrer Sonoma Brut, and you had a pretty awesome, if not rainy, day!
I may do this every Sunday!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Came here last night for an enjoyable dinner. The boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere we could stay warm and get really good comfort food and this place really hit the spot. We got here early around 5:30pm (and already starving) and there were lots of seating available. The decor and ambiance of this place is fancy but family-friendly. A nice place to go with family friends to get dinner and drinks.
Our server Daniel was super friendly and made us feel really welcome here, especially since this was our first time there. He gave us some background info to the restaurant as well as his recommendations for appetizers, entrees and desserts, which was very cool and much appreciated.
We went with his recommendations and ordered the meatloaf and pot roast. Both were amazing!! They come with a generous portion with yummy mashed potatoes on the side. My pot roast had this nice sauce, which really added to my mashed potatoes. The pot roast was really tender, very flavorful and totally satisfying. Granted I don't eat a lot of pot roast, so I don't have much to compare this to, but I really liked it (and so did the boyfriend). The meatloaf was really good too - I wasn't a fan of the bacon, but the meat was well-seasoned and juicy. Both entrees were around $17-20 each.
We were also given complimentary crostini appetizers and pecan fudge bites. Yumm!!
Overall, a great experience here. Really hit the spot in terms of good home-cooking type feel. Will definitely come back again! :) -

Ok I'll be honest.. I have walked past this place MANY times and have never even thought to go in. I have no idea why I haven't. I got a gift card for Christmas and it gave me a great reason to check it out.
Bottom line - I LOVED IT! My sister and I went one evening after work. We started with a very tasty bottle of wine - Syrah - for a good price. They brought us out a little appetizer/taster that pared well with the wine. It was goat cheese with some nuts on lettuce but delicious! We shared the Country Green salad which had apples, walnuts and goat cheese and was delicious! The waiter was very helpful and let us know which items worked best with our wine - much appreciated! My sister had the steelhead and I had the lamb shanks. YUM!!! to both! My sis and I were both in heaven. But we didn't even know what was around the corner.
My sis got the lemon cheesecake with huckleberry sauce for dessert and I got the pumpkin bread pudding. I loved them both the same. The maple caramel fudge they gave us as extra was delicious but I just couldn't finish it. I was too full!
Our waiter was great and the service was quick (almost a little too quick cuz it felt a tad rushed but still good). NOTE! If you park in the garage behind it, get your token validated.
I will be back - I want to try the mushroom risotto and mocha creme brulee!
On another note - a lot of people around us were ordering the meatloaf! So I would say a good bet! -

My date and I walked in on a Thursday night and were seated immediately. I had the Halibut, which was great, but she had the vegetarian paella which was almost inedible. It tasted like salt and just about nothing else.
The mini desserts were quite good though. We tried the cheesecake, the chocolate cream pie, and the bread pudding, and each was delicious. I would recommend this place for dessert but not for the entrees.
Finally, they boxed up the paella for us in the kitchen, but then forgot to bring it back. Which was fine with us. -

I used to really like this restaurant, but I think they have become one of the snootiest restaurants in the area. It's still possible to be a great restaurant, yet treat people with kindness and respect. I did not like my experience speaking with one of the managers over the phone regarding finding a meeting place for a large group. Very short, curt and rude. I think I'll take my dining business elsewhere.
