I came to Lark Creek with my fiance last weekend for a nice meal and some good wine. I have to say that we were not disappointed. I had been here once before for drinks, so I knew that the restaurant had a good atmosphere and drink menu, and I was very eager to try their food. First off, Lark Creek has one of the better wine lists in Walnut Creek. We got a bottle of Frank Family Cabernet, which I was excited to see on the menu. If you have not had Frank Family wines you are missing out.
I started with a Charred Eggplant and Roasted Red Pepper soup. The first few tastes were a little bland for me, but as I continued with the dish the flavors really started to come out, and it turned out to be a good soup to wake up your palat and prepare you for a meal. My fiance had the Caesar Salad, which she really enjoyed.
For dinner I had the Yankee Pot Roast, which we were told was one of their most ordered items. I expected a nice meal, but i was really surprised with how flavorful the pot roast was and how tender the meat was. The vegetables and mashed potatoes accompanying the dish were a perfect pairing. My lady had the wood oven roasted Half Chicken. She really enjoyed it, and the bite that I had was very good. It was not dry at all, which is always the worry when you order chicken. I actually made up a sandwich from the chicken the next day for lunch and it was great too (double the value).
The reason that I am not giving the restaurant five stars is for two reasons. 1) It is a bit pricy, but not to the point of being rediculous. 2) They brought out the wrong orders to us the first time. This is not a big deal, but when you are really hungry and you see your food coming it can be a little exciting, and when they had to take them away becuase it was not our food it was a let down.
The waiter that helped us was fantastic. I wish I remembered his name because he did an excellent job. We were there for over two hours and we never felt rushed to leave, even though it was fairly crowded on a Friday night. The waiter came out multiple times just to chat with us and meade us feel very comfortable, which was really appreciated.
I will be going back to Lark Creek at some point. I have heard great things about their sea food choices, so I am looking forward to coming back to try a different type of meal there.
We have been coming here off and on since Brad Ogden opened this restaurant some 15 years ago. And since then "off and on" is exactly what it's been. Most recently we thought we would give them another shot.
This is a nice restaurant, expensive and yes pretentious. However in the past they had seemingly always managed to match that air of elitism with very good food.
This last outing was nothing great at all. The soup was exceptional! The en tree's where pretty bland, the pot roast was dry and salty. A big plate of mushy saucy heavy food that really made no sense and reminded me of what my brother used to do with his dinner when he was bored with it.
This is a ton of money, and you can't be on and off in this economy, or any other for that matter. Brad Ogden would have thrown these guys out with the garbage if he knew what was coming out of that kitchen now.
Okay... let's just say that I NEVER complain (NEVER!). But after dinner the other night... I just HAD to voice my complaint to the YELP readers.
First things first... the food is AMAZING! We love this place, the food, and the all around atmosphere.
But the service that we received on Saturday night was beyond bad!
Here is the breakdown:
1) We brought a bottle of Stags Leap. The waiter looked at the bottle and said nice, I'll be right back to open it and let it breath. Mistake one... he came back 20 minutes later to open it.
2) We ordered an appetizer before the salads and dinner. Mistake two... the appetizer arrived the same time as the salads.
3) After dinner, we wanted to order dessert to help celebrate a birthday. Mistake three... he never came back to see if we wanted dessert. By the time he did come back to our table, we were done waiting and just wanted the check. And apparently, we weren't the only ones... I heard the table next to us go "where is our waiter?"
One mistake is okay, two is pushing it, but three is just uncalled for.
Hey Lark Creek... start watching your servers to make sure they're doing their job... cause you just lost some business here!
What a disappointing lunch this turned out to be. I should've known walking in that coming here was probably a bad idea. There was only one couple in there even remotely the same age as us. Everybody else was... well-to-do older white people. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But.. generally such places have a bit of a condescending atmosphere to them and this place was certainly no exception. Alas, we were already seated, so we continued on and hoped the food would be good.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. For starters, we ordered a calamari appetizer. I would comment on how this tasted, but it never actually made it to our table. When our waiter placed our entrees on the table, my boyfriend and I just looked at each other and rolled our eyes. I ordered a bleu cheese burger and it was remarkably average. At $15, it's a ripoff. My boyfriend had the prime rib and eggs special. It was way overcooked and also a complete ripoff at $20.
I don't expect we'll ever be back.
The first time I came here was 6 years ago, on my 21st birthday. We only had drinks and to be honest I cant even remember what I drank.
This time around we went on a Wednesday for the Happy Hour between 4-6pm.
As we walked up we couldnt tell if it was open or not. There were no customers at all. Just mingling waitstaff.
We didnt care though. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink from the cocktail menu. We got the Ruby Red Drop.
The Ruby Red Drop is probably one of the most refreshingly wonderful drinks I have had out in a long time. This is my new favorite. It has Absolut Ruby Red Vodka, Cranberry Juice, Grapefruit Juice, and Lemonade.
If I could have a butler hand me a beverage as soon as I sit up in the morning, this would be the drink I would choose. Either I have grandious fantasys or Im an alchoholic.
We did try the Le Lemon Drop. It was to sweet for me. If you want a drink that tastes exactly like the Lemonhead Candy. This is the drink for you.
Now to the food. I would compare their bar food fare to that of my other most favorite bars food. That is The Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
We had the Ahi Tuna Tartare, Lark Creek Burger Sliders, Monterey Calamari.
The Ahi Tuna stole the show. I could have probably ate two of them. Or maybe I should have just ordered my own so that I wouldnt have to split it with my husband.
The cool cucumber mixed with the oils and the fish was a flavor sensation magnified by the magnitute of the cocktails that were flowing. The Tartare was "Tart-are-Licious!"
The sliders were a little to rare for me and they had sweet pickles. Not a fan of sweet pickles. Good over all though.
The Calamari was almost forgotten about over the Tuna. They have a homemade cocktail sauce that would rival any homemade crap my mom ever tried making. It was good and not to breaded either, which I am always looking for.
We had to many drinks for a Wednesday night, but it was well worth it.
If you live in or near Walnut Creek and you are not partaking of what they have to offer here you are crazy. Go, now!
Im already making phone calls to friends for a weekend dinner out because I loved it so much.
Speacial Paint Note: They have really cool Pumpkin Orange ceilings. I wish I knew what color that is because its really cool.
I'm so very surprised that so many people had such good experiences here. I've been waiting to try this place for years and was really excited when my husband suggested going there for the seventh anniversary of the day we first met. It's too bad that the only FANTASTIC thing about my experience here was being with my husband. Everything else was just blah...
I had read that this was a restaurant for older people. I wasn't sure what that meant. Last night I quickly realized that we were probably the youngest people in the dining room other than the hostess. I also developed a theory that the chefs must cater to their sometimes less than adventurous taste buds. Also, the exposed kitchen / work area leads to a very loud room. We sat as far away from the kitchen as possible without being outside yet couldn't even hear the music they were playing.
We had a drink at our very small table against the front window. The window sill (which opens in cooler weather) was dusted in dusted in dirt and dead flies. My husband's expensive lemon drop didn't taste like lemon at all. He had to macerate a lemon wedge in to it to get any lemon flavor at all. My Cabo tequila and fruit juice drink was very good, though. When the waiter offers you San Pellagrino right as you walk in, note that he will charge you for it, unlike Mangia Bene in Martinez which gives you a pitcher (or more) of it for free.
The flat bread was actually a little pizza and was pretty good. Basil, mozzarella, tomatoes, garlic and fresh arugula on artisan bread is always a good thing. I should have stopped here.
My stuffed veal was not stuffed. It was rested on top of a few roasted potatoes and eggplant pieces, surrounded by a few tiny (but delicious) cherry tomatoes. Not one item on my plate had any herbs or seasoning or truthfully, flavor. The veal was very tender and the portion was just the right size but it was dull, boring and over priced. Not even a heavy dusting of pepper did anything for it.
My husband had the meat loaf, which was meat wrapped in bacon with barbecue sauce on top. Again, no seasonings other than the sauce and the sauce struck me as wholly unimaginative. His garlic mashed potatoes were RAW garlic mashed potatoes. Maybe they tried to roast the garlic but didn't finish? They were inedible, even for me, a garlic and potato aficionado.
Near the end of the meal, I started thinking about how limited their desert menu was and realized that I wouldn't like anything they offered. Being a chocolate fanatic, butterscotch pudding doesn't sound even vaguely attractive. So, I suggested the Cheesecake Factory. $95 poorer and wishing we had eaten somewhere else, we made our way down the block to the deserts that saved the meal.
Have been to brunch and lunch here recently, great food (get the huevos rancheros!), very friendly and funny wait staff, and very warm decor. With brunch we had the pastry basket which was delicious, and their orange juice was fresh and tasty. They served warm and buttery bread before our lunch that we devoured, but I would have skipped the raspberry iced tea (Snapple tastes better!). Would recommend for sure!
Monday, July 20th: I'm here for a dinner meeting with six others. I got here early so while I wait I plopped down at a table outside and appetized with the corn dip.I was interested in eating here because I tried their split pea and leek soup at the Contra Costa Food Fair at CCC earlier this year. Yum
When the rest of the party arrived we moved our reservation outside since it was such a nice evening. I am anxious to check the menu to see if the pea soup is there....
Success! The pea/butter lettace and leek soup was on the menu. My first taste brought immediate scent/taste memories of a vegetable garden in the morning, after watering. I followed with the penne pasta with chicken, which was nice. Then an itty-bitty berry cheese cake. Four bites, just enough.
Excellent company, good service, good food.
I've heard quite a bit about this place and came with fairly high expectations considering the prices they also charge. I ordered the vegetarian burger for lunch and it was BAD. The fennel they used to make it didn't have the right consistency. In fact, it tasted like there was raw egg batter that didn't completely cook through. The macaroni salad wasn't cooked enough that it was actually still hard, not al dente. In addition, someone ordered soup at our table and there was NO BREAD served. They now charge for a basket of bread. I would rather spend my money elsewhere.
I had a dinner for business a few wks ago and we decided to eat here. Still part of the Bradley Ogden chain, so the food is still on par with what you'd expect at the other Lark Creek establishments.
I ordered the NY Strip which was excellently prepared. Great vegetables and paired well with a glass of Syrah(Paso Robles 05). For dessert, they offer their signature Butterscotch pudding, but this time I had the fruit sorbet which settled well with my stomach as I didn't want to gorge this evening.
The service and ambiance are different in that the crowd is slightly mature and more laid back. Keep in mind, this is in Walnut Creek, not inside Westfield Shopping Center. While I like the SF establishment, the WC Lark Creek is a bit more quiet which makes for better conversations.
The parking is validated, although w/out it the rate is a ridiculous 50 cents and hour.
I booked the reservation thru Opentable and usually if you're early they make you wait til your reservation time. This time, the hostess seated us early and we were able to get drinks, which was nice. Overall, I'd probably come back here for the carnivorous meal, although for steaks you may wanna try Ruth Chris near-by(from what I hear). But nevertheless, you get your standard(above-average) meal and service at the Bradley Ogden establishment.
This place has excellent seafood dishes and great desserts especially the butterscotch pudding. This is a must try in Walnut Creek.
SO SO OVERRATED!!!
And overpriced. Not sure what motif they're going for here...maybe French Laundry meets Mel's Diner in the 'burbs? In any case, this place is perfectly suited for Walnut Creek: bland, timid food catering to blue hairs at obnoxious prices.
When we visited, the menu featured innovative explosions of flavor like meatloaf and pot roast. Yawn. It was OK for what it was - plain, mushy food for old white people. Nothing wrong with that. The problem was that the entrees were all $20 to $30 for mediocre fare. Underwhelming at best. But this is Walnut Creek, where the demographics include mostly soccer moms and retirees, so I guess it makes sense.
Long story short, if you're in the mood for American comfort food, you can find it for much less at many other places. Only bright side was the service, which was great.
I went to Lark Creek on our way to a weekend camping and whitewater rafting trip. This was to be our last civilized meal and I really enjoyed it.
The service was great, and we sat outside in the courtyard. All of the food that I tasted going around the table was excellent, including the interesting tamale pancake dish that I ordered.
The location is on a beautiful street in Walnut Creek and parking is available literally on the roof of the restaurant for 50 cents an hour or something like that.
I have nothing snarky to say about my brunch here a few weeks ago. I was thoroughly impressed and want to come back to see if the other items on the menu are anywhere near as good as what I ordered for brunch. What could possibly keep me from cracking jokes about polo shirts, flip flops, and the baby stroller brigade? Just the best damn steak and egg breakfast I have ever had. The steak was not only perfectly cooked, it was also a fine piece of meat. The eggs were tasty and the breakfast potatoes, which usually inspire absolutely no mention whatsoever when thrown on a breakfast plate, were delicious.
Service was spot on, without even so much as a pause and look of disgust when my partner in crime and I both ordered a couple of scotches to wash down our food...then ordered another...then another.
Oh, the two servings of quite possibly "enhanced" MILF titty sitting nearby was nice too.
Wow, look no further than Lark Creek Cafe at 8:00p.m. for all the evidence you need about the state of the recession. I have been here 5-6 times, usually on Fri-Sat night and it has always been crammed. I mean the bar, the waiting area, the outside, the inside, the kitchen, the bathroom, the roof, all the vertical spaces - everywhere. This past Saturday night, though, 50% full at 8:00p.m. Wow.
Anywhos, the food: great calamari appetizer, very fresh, great dipping sauce. Very flavorful Caesar, nice crisp Romaine, dressing -tart but not overly so, nice crunchy croutons. For my entree I had the Meatloaf with mash and spring veggies - very good. The meatloaf was very moist with a crescendo of garlic, onion and spinach topped with apple-wood smoked bacon and a small (appropriate sized) dollop of tangy bbq sauce.
For dessert we had the butterscotch pudding which was also very good.
All in all, a very good meal that I would recommend. It's not cheap, but, I feel you get quality for your dollar. And, you have your choice of tables!!!
Lark Creek is hitting its stride and was really good the last time we went there. The food is so much better than the chain/large commercial restaurants that are coming to WC like the Cheesecake Factory. All of the food we had on our most recent visit, including the Caesar salad, New York steak and the pot roast were excellent and a pretty good value as well, and the service is very sharp.
3.5 stars
Kym C. took me out for dinner (what a sweetie!) and we weren't sure where to go but were in Walnut Creek and decided to come here. I've been to Lark Creek Steak in San Francisco and I LOVE that place so much, so I was excited to come here and give it a try. I soon found out the restaurants were related, but didn't have the same menu. I opted for the pot roast which was absolutely delicious and tender! It was hearty and had a lot of rich flavors, you can tell it has been slow cooked for hours. I was so impressed! It was huge as well, I was able to take half home and share it with my sister. I loved every single bite! When it was packed to go, I forgot to pick it up on my way out but when I walked in the waiter had it ready for me. I appreciated that! The best part of the meal was the mac n cheese, mmmm!! Sooo good.
And always a big hit with me at Lark Creek, the MINT ICED TEA! :)
I recommend coming here if you want a good, down home hearty meal. The service was great and attentive and the food was good.
Brunch in the sun...there's no better way to spend a sunny, Sunday...now if it only wasn't in the WC...
Have to admit that this was a completely random pick which was inspired by it's proximity to the parking garage (we were hungry) and the fact that it had a patio and a full bar.
The food was delicious (Hanger Steak and Eggs), the atmosphere was entertaining (the table of four women next to us were sauced on pitchers of Mimosas) and service was prompt...
A very un-WC like experience for me...so much so, I was tempted not to write since there was nothing to bitch about.
If you want a good no stress Brunch, I suggest you could do worse than Lark Creek...
Visiting my son in college, we booked a reservation here based on reviews and a quick look at their menu which claims to support local sustainable farmers and ranchers. Based on our selections from the menu, I am pretty sure they are telling the truth as most everything was seasonal and full of flavor and lacked any of the taste of frozen or preserved food.
My son and I enjoyed an English pea and mint soup while my wife had a luscious strawberry and arugula salad. For our main courses, my wife had their wood fired steelhead trout, while I had their bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and my son had their Saturday Night special, prime rib. the tenderloin, which can lack flavor, was full of pork flavor from the wrapped bacon and the wood oven. My son's prime rib was outstanding. A big thick cut, properly cooked to a medium rare. The steelhead, which reminds me more of a salmon, was light, but tasty. All the dishes were accompanied by seasonal veggies.
A nice touch were their mini desserts. You can buy one, or get three for a deal. I enjoyed a mini chocolate cream tart, and my wife got some cookies. It was nice to end a full flavorful meal with a sweet taste that was small enough not to put you over the top on the fullness scale.
All in all a nice place for a fresh and well prepared dinner. Service was excellent and we enjoyed walking the busy neighborhood after the satisfying meal. Its hard to compete with restaurants in the city, but if you are wandering the streets of Walnut Creek, give Lark Creek a try.
Lark Creek was a regular spot for me back in the early 2000s. I had not been back until just recently. I was pleasantly suprised to find that the food was better than I remember. The quality, preparation, flavor and value are all on point. I have been seated twice at a booth table that shares the aisle with the "pass". This is a great spot and very entertaining to watch the food preparation. During one visit, we were offered a complimentary meatball on a bed of pesto asparagus - it was delish! I plan to request this table on my return visits.
I like that they offer small and large portions of some of their menu items. It allows me to try a few different things during a single visit. I have tried or sampled the following:
Jumbo Asparagus with shrimp: Lovely grilled flavor
Flatbread with goat cheese, leeks, sundried tomato, arugula: Yum, I looove goat cheese.
Asparagus and saffron risotto: I ordered the small portion and added chicken. It was plenty large and tasted awesome.
Caesar Salad: Perfect dressing flavor.
Pot Roast with root vegetables and mashed potatoes: Tender, juicy and lovely.
Halibut: Cooked perfectly with an outstanding mix of flavors.
I also like that they offer mini desserts for 4.95, or 3 for 12.95, and additional "full size" desserts. I have tried or sampled the following mini desserts:
Strawberry Daiquiri Cheesecake: Tasted like it sounds!
Tropical Fruit Roll: I think it's meant to look like sushi with the chocolate shell, coconut rice pudding and fruit chunks. I think its really creative and different and tastes great.
Chocolate Cream Pie: Perfect flavor and great crust.
Assorted Cookie Plate: I love cookies! Great variety - pecan, chocolate chocolate chip, macadamia nut, raspberry thumbprint and sugar.
Service on my last visit was labored and slow. We were in the side/back room which may have had something to do with it. I'll still return - but at my favorite table.
Very nice place (inside) to have a good meal.
The seating is very comfortable and the decor is tasteful.
The food is reasonable and of good quality. The staff is very nice and always very attentive to your needs. My glass is never empty here!
It can get busy, so make reservations.
Never had a bad meal or experience here. A very nice and comfortable place to eat lunch or dinner.
One of the only potential conflicts in my relationship is that I like breakfast but my fiance does not. Brunch to the rescue! I really enjoyed Sunday brunch at Lark Creek. We got there around 1 p.m. and opted to sit at the bar which had plenty of seats available. We started with drinks and I got a very tasty mimosa. Their menu has a nice selection of starters, breakfast-y type items, and lunch plates. I ordered the quiche. The bread they bring you is three rolls baked together that have to be torn apart. They were warm and the butter was nice and spreadable and the two went well together, just like my fiance and me.
When my quiche arrived I was pleasantly surprised that it was accompanied by a nice sized salad. The salad almost stole the spotlight from the quiche with its light vinaigrette and grapefruit slices. I love grapefruit! I finished the delicious salad first and moved on to the quiche. The quiche was an amazing, well balanced threesome of broccoli, bacon, and cheddar.
I was impressed by the bartender. He was very busy making all the drinks for the entire restaurant and also taking the orders of those of us sitting at the bar and a few tables nearby. Even with that work load, he made a point to chat with us and the service was very good.
I went here for brunch with my sweetheart, Emily J. I thought it was kind of funny that the host asked us if we had reservations. There were two of us, it was 1pm and not a holiday. I guess they're just really popular. It looked like a pretty full house. They would have had a table ready for us in a few mintues I'm sure but we chose to grab a couple seats at the bar.
The bartender was on the spot with a smile to take our orders. I was happy to find E.J. Phair's "Shorty's Revenge" (brewed in Concord) on the tap list and our friendly bartender was happy to bring me a frosty pint of it.
The menu is full of words like "artisan", "organic", and "local" which is all well and good but I'm not terribly interested in which farm the pig which became my bacon was raised on.
Like Emily said, I'm not a big fan of breakfast (and it was 1pm) so I chose my main course from the lunch section. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Salad. I'm not sure what was Southern about it but it was delicious. The chicken strips were crispy and tender without being dry. The salad was a mix of fresh spring greens and baby spinach. The dressing was a very light mix of oil and vinegar that made the dish cohesive without overpowering any of the flavors. Accenting the salad were some really tasty beets, blue cheese, and a big dollop of herbed sour cream. I would have traded some of the blue cheese for some more beets but all the flavors worked really well together.
I have to give an honorable mention to the bread and butter. This is bread that reminds me how good plain old bread can be. It was fresh and warm with a crunchy crust and soft insides - really delicious.
Lunch was delicious and I definitely want to come back here some time for dinner when I'm feeling a bit spendy.
Not too bad. Fairly good service and decent food.
Nothing really stood out or had "wow" factor.
Eggs benedict over pepper biscuits with citrus hollaindase. Need I say more? Delicious! The french toast we ordered for the table was declared by one bruncher, "The best french toast I've ever had, perfect texture and real apples!" The service was polite and polished. My only complaint was the watery bloody mary, they need to be more bloody! If it isn't red, it isn't right. I would absolutely come here again and told my husband I'm bringing him for breakfast soon.
It isn't cheap, but it's reasonably priced for seasonal, fresh ingredients.
They can put together a prix fixe lunch or dinner if you want to have a party, which is a great option if you are hosting a shower or other party, or just want a bunch of people to get together and don't want to worry about splitting the bill equally. Just contact them before the event and they'll get it set up for you.
I'm going back soon. It was delicious.
My parents and I ate here on Saturday and it was great. They have wide variety of items from fish to chicken to steak and non-meat dishes as well. Yes, it is a little pricey but they have this deal called the All American 3-course Dinner where you can get a soup or salad, choice of pork or fish entree, and mini dessert for 29.95 which I think is great. You do not get tiny portions either, which is nice. I had the Petrale Sole, which was delicious.
I am taking off one star for 2 reasons: One, the corkage fee is $20, which sucks. Also, they said they validate parking in the adjacent garage but when we went to leave, the garage charged us $1.50, claiming they only validated 50 cents of the parking fee! Are you kidding me? That must have been a mistake because I think, if you spend $150 for dinner, they should be able to spare $2.00 for parking. Hoping that was a mistake. I would definitely go again to find out!
I've had dinner here a few times and have always had a good experience.
I ate here again last night and started the dinner with onion rings and blue cheese dressing. The way the thinly sliced onions were battered and fried was so delicious. I couldn't get enough of them.
For my main course, I had their Pan Roasted Steelhead with Turnip Puree, Escarole, Shaved Granny Smith Apples, & Brown Butter. The fish was cooked to perfection! And the brown butter along the edge of the plate just added to the dish.
They have nightly classics too. On Thursday, it was Salisbury Steak with Whipped Potatoes, Steamed Broccoli Rabe & Crumbled Hobbs Bacon, which my date had. It was a very nice sized portiion. The steak was so soft, with a meatloaf-like texture. It was great.
Unfortunately I was so full, that I had no room for dessert. But their selections looked so appealing. They even offer several different types of mini desserts such as butterscotch pudding and pumpkin creme brulee. I'm going to have to come back just for those.
The wait staff offered to wrap my date's dish to go. Unfortunately, he didn't understand what he asked and was surprised when he came back with a bag with his leftovers. My date pretended to leave the bag behind. But, the super sweet waiter ran after us outside of the restaurant telling us not to forget our doggy bag :)
Strawberry cream cheese french toast with pecans and maple butter is all I've got to say! Wow, go for Sunday brunch and you won't be disappointed. Every time I've gone for breakfast/brunch I always try to order something else but I keep getting drawn back in to my old love, the strawberry cream cheese french toast. It's a decadent breakfast to say the least but it is amazing.
I always steal a bite or two of whatever my husband has---he branches out, but I'll admit that while his looks good it's never as amazing as my morning staple!
I've been for dinner as well, can't promise it will be as memorable but the ambiance is always great there. Oh, sitting at the chef's station is fun too, we've done that a few times and loved the little extras they prepare for us!
Lark Creek remains one of my favorite restaurants. Every time I go in I know that I am going to get great American-style food with flair. The wait-staff is friendly and very accommodating. My favorite dish is the bacon-wrapped meatloaf with a side of mashed potatoes and root vegetables. The meatloaf comes slathered in this "ketchup-based" tomato sauce. I'm not a fan of ketchup, or tomato sauce. If you get the meatloaf I'd recommend not getting the sauce as it adds nothing to it; the meatloaf is moist enough without it. Plus it makes the mash soggy.
3.5 Stars. Better than "A-OK", but I'm not sure yet whether I'm a fan or would make a special trip to come back.
I dined here one of the private rooms as part of a work-related meeting (on a Sunday night no less). I was already in a good mood as I got to catch-up with many out-of-town colleagues and friends. And that took the edge off the relatively slow service.
My steak (with blue cheese) on the other hand was delicious as were the group appetizers. Both were well complemented by the wine.
I recommend Lark Creek, maybe not as a first choice but it is a choice. The decor is pretty nice and the atmosphere is very regal. It's almost a little too uppity for little ol' Walnut Creek, but I guess this is where all the people who already made it big come to retire.
The salads here are really good - I personally loved the bacon wrapped meatloaf with their horseradish sauce. Also, if you're in the mood for carbs try out the mashed potatoes. The portions are a pretty good size so come hungry!
The tone that people go in is business casual but I think this place is a little pricey considering the food that they serve. Not that it's bad or of dispraportionate size to how much you want, I just didn't think that the restaurant was making food that was all that difficult that I wouldn't be able to do it on my own if I had a lot of time.
My aunt always taught me, "A lady always reviews the dessert menu, before ordering so she never overstuffs herself."
Lark Creek is one of the those places that I always review the latest dessert creations they offer, but I always select my standby ultimate favorite, their homemade butterscotch pudding.
When I think about Lark Creek, I think about homecooked, comfort foods but with elegance. One of my favorites is their homemade meatloaf w/mash potatoes. Yum!!!
If you don't want a glass a wine with dinner definitely try their lemonade!!
Just had lunch their today and it was wonderful.
Tried the tamale pancake with BBQ chicken and it was fantastic. Very satisfying. Great setting. Very enjoyable dining experience. Will come back

Today is Toni's birthday, and since I came here for lunch on my birthday, I suggested we meet here for a family lunch to celebrate. This and the fact that Toni could get a great burger and great calamari and Yelp about it all at the same time didn't hurt.
Today, I give them 3.5 stars:
I re-read the review I wrote from December from when they didn't serve tomato with my burger then either. Today our waiter claimed tomatoes weren't in season. Well, we were too hungry to protest, so I let it go-until I started writing this update.
I called and spoke with the manager "Mel". According to her, the theme of the menu is fresh and local. This means that they will not serve tomatoes out of season and that tomato season is in August. When I pushed a little further, she admitted that we would only see tomatoes at this place 2 months or so out of the year-August/September. Now that that mystery is solved, on to the rest of my review...
The calamari was good but definitely a smaller portion than we received in Dec. The burger was still heavenly and the service still needs work. For this type of cloth napkin atmosphere, there is no excuse that water and tea glasses remain empty or that mustard/ketchup, etc. need to be requested (especially with 4 of the 5 diners having burgers and fries).
I still haven't been for dinner and after the second lunching with average service, I think I will pass. I will come back (maybe in another 6 months or so) for a burger again, but nothing else.

Birthday lunch heaven-well the food was at least. We had lunch here today. Shared the calamari (best… Read more »
I always sit at the bar. I've never had a bad dish and have been presently surprised by the dishes I wasn't to sure about. I've been coming here for over 10 years now and have tried many dishes.
Applause for Lark Creek, another delightful fine dining restaurant in the Creek!
This place is suppose to be known for their seafood but I found it lacking ...quite a bit. I ordered the special seafood risotto and it was horrible. A bunch of seafood in soup with rice tossed in. Yikes. The Hubie ordered the Steel head and boy is his own recipe 100% better then theirs!
The service depends on who you get. We originally got a young handsome guy who was A+ but had to move because my friends had a stroller which was not allowed in the main dining hall for fire regulation reasons. It was funny how the hostess asked if we could put the infant on a high chair....idiot...can't you see...small baby it was only 2 months old! Some people! So they moved us to another dining room and we got this old cougar with a bad ass makeup job. I guess at least she tries.....NOT....she looks like a clown! She was absolutely horrible...snippy, rude, condescending, and was rushing us to the degree that one of my friends called her out. I will likely not come back but if you are here they have a killer Cesar anchovies salad.
3 stars for the food and 4 stars for the service and ambiance. We were doing our normal stroll through Walnut Creek and I wanted to try something new than our normal Nordstrom Cafe.
The lunch selection was quite limited. Nothing on the appetizers list looked appealing. They only had salads, sandwiches, and some random pastas and meals to chose from. I opted for the NY Italian sausage sandwich while bf had the bacon cheeseburger. Both came with fries. Maybe I just wasn't terribly hungry but I was only able to finish half my sandwich. The sausage was good; it is made in house with no preservatives. I had a bite of the cheeseburger. It was very large and quite difficult to get into the mouth. The service was both prompt and friendly by all members (the waiter, busboy, and hostess). It is a bit pricier but I think the ambiance is worth the extra money. I'd like to eventually try this place for dinner.
Lark Creek is consistently awesome! Their menu is fantastic and everything I've tried is great. I love the service and the wines.
I went there the other night and had the NY steak and roasted brussel sprouts - yummy!
A lovely, pleasant place, with the most cloying, happy-drugged waiter of all time and an overpriced burger to boot. Luckily, I was being graciously treated to this meal, so I didn't have to worry about getting snarky about the overly wet (yes, wet--not juicy) burger that disintegrated its bun and the flavorless meat that was lost among the slabs and slabs of blue cheese. I mean, I like cheese, but it's blue cheese... be reasonable, people.
The waiter, as suggested prior, was happy. A sort of, what-are-they-putting-in-the-kool-aid happy. My dining companion and I shared soup. He brought us spoons for the soup, which had yet to arrive at our table. He put down the spoons and gestured over the empty table as if he'd presented us with a fine roasted pheasant, and said, "enjoy!" Enjoy the spoons? Weird. Or perhaps I'm hypercritical.
However, the atmosphere was lovely and it was roundly a wonderful afternoon, which had me feeling benevolent. Hence three stars.
Lark Creek features great fresh seasonal produce and a definite flair for extrodinary flavors. The heirloom tomato caprese appetiser stole the show and was simple and perfect. The flatbread took a very long time to come out and was disappointing - a little to flat and bland for my taste. My faith was restored when the free form lasagnae came out. A fantastic dish that definitely stretched the definition of lasagnae - in a good way!
A note for the guys: if you're coming here on a date, you may want a table not facing the host stand, as these lovely ladies will probably catch your eye and may lead to trouble with your date. I know I was staring!
