I'd like to start by saying to Brandon C. below that there is now way one can compare Larchmont to Bay Cities.  They are both magical in their own spheres.  Bay Cities (Santa Monica) is an Italian Deli, their sammies are Italian style!  Larchmont sandwiches are meant to accopany wine, hence the field greens, balsamic sundried tomato etc.  They're totally different kinds of sammies both great!

Anyway! I love Larchmont sandwiches and what they don't tell you is that you can do all kinds of fancy stuff to them.  If you want half salami, half turkey...you can do that!

Want brie instead of manchego? You can do that!

It's amazing. LONG LIVE LARCHMONT!

This is a really great lunch place. They have great sandwiches, and really interesting flavor combos.  Also, they don't have a problem with swapping out certain things if you don't like it.  It really is a customize it yourself kind of place.

Of course, if you go with their combos those are delicious too. Also, at lunch it gets super crowded, sometimes the lines out the door....and around. So, have your order in mind. They move quickly, which is good for you too.

The sandwiches here are great.  Not as wonderful as Italia in Agoura Hills, but these sandwiches are a close second (and much better than Bay Cities).  I also love cornichons, but have to go with the olives here...

The #3 is awesome.

Without a doubt, the best sandwich I have had in LA.  I go their weekly, at least.

Start with their menu of recommended sandwiches, and build from there.  Their prices for additions / substitutions is very fair.  I suggest the 3 with ham and salami.

The sandwiches can't be beat!

Also, if you're a KCRW member, they have a discount.

You can also phone in your order ahead of time.

They are not open on Sundays.

The 2 star rating says it all, "meh. I've experienced better." I came here on Saturday and they must have the C-Team out because the sandwiches were less than satisfying for the price. The line was long (20 minute wait) but I didn't mind because I had sandwiches here a year ago and it was awesome. On Saturday, the bread wasn't fresh, the prosciutto was invisible, and the turkey was dry. LVWSC, lets get back on track next time.

This place is great for lunch.

Don't be intimidated by the line.  Just get in line, grab some pasta salad and you won't be disappointed.  If you are really in a rush you can call ahead to skip the line.

The sandwiches are simple but the ingredients are fresh and full of flavor.

Delish! My co-workers have been raving about this joint for a while, so I finally caved and took a trip. I have no idea why I waited so long! I've tried the Imported Black Forest Ham, Swiss Emmenthal Cheese and Soppressata Salami, Spinach, Manchego Cheese sandwiches and enjoyed every bite. The simplicity and quality ingredients are what get me. The ham was so flavorful and sliced so thinly, and was delicious combined with the swiss, olives and vinegar. And the salami was soooo good. What sealed the deal was the fresh, quality french baguette. The texture was outstanding, with the outside was perfectly crispy. You can also get your sandwich on ciabatta bread.

The only downside is the wait. It's a solid 45 minutes wait in line. Lately I've just called my order in advance and picked it up! There are a couple tables outside for you to eat at as well. Go check it out!

Meh.

Got the veggie sandwich on baguette and it was A-OK.  Nothing more, nothing less.  The line wasn't bad at all so I was pleasantly surprised to be able to walk right up and order after waiting for about 3 minutes.

I think these sandwiches are really for meat eaters.  Without meat the sandwich wasn't very exciting.  There were some great flavors from the olive tempenade, the pepper, olive oil, etc., but there was definitely something missing.

I wish I had some veggie turkey or something on hand to jazz it up a bit, but alas I didn't.  On another note, the bread fell apart while I was eating the sandwich.  I'm not sure if this was an indication that the bread was stale.

At any rate, most likely won't be back unless they get some sort of vegan menu.

Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese  gets five stars for two reasons: 1) They truly do make some of the best sandwiches in LA and 2) They are the best source I've found for baguettes.  In addition, they have a great and affordable wine selection and some really good cheese to choose from.  The staff are super friendly and helpful and the only real drawback I've found is that they often run out of ingredients before closing, so make sure you get there on the earlier side if you want a sandwich.

For years, i told everyone i met that Italia Deli in Agoura Hills had the best sandwiches in Los Angeles.  While i still love Italia... Larchmont has easily passed them as my favorite.

The sopressata & manchego cheese on baguette with sundried tomato aioli is outstanding... i get more excited about eating this sandwich than anything in town.

Make sure you arrive early, before they run out of bread!

Also, being in Larchmont VIllage adds a great atmosphere... a nice departure from Hollywood yet only a couple blocks away.

Perhaps the only place i would rate 6 stars on Yelp.

Good solid sandwiches in the deli section. Salami, prosciutto, turkey, vegetarian. High quality, fresh selections of the best ingredients - not the run of the mill mass market stuff at most deli's.Good and small deli selection should you need to buy something for home entertainment. Imported selection is good and "reasonably priced.
Wine section - has a average to okay selection. Would not be my choice for a place to go first, but in a pinch/back up gotta go now place it succeeds.
Now a warning: do not attempt to order a sandwich at peak lunch hours. Most of the studios, business order by phone or in advance - and somehow they do not staff up or create a way to deal with this in the back section. The genius of management I guess. So call or plan ahead, otherwise you'll have to wait awhile to get a great sandwich.

Neat inside store with great wine variety.

I'd been hearing about the paninis for a while, but the place is often packed. It always looked cool though - like a neat lil' urban cafe with a few cute tables outside. While in the area one day it seemed pretty empty so we stepped in to try one. I was super excited. I'm a vegetarian, so options are often slim in the panini department, but they had one of my faves on the menu: caprese panini.  Ugh. SO gross. The bread was that near-raw mush roll and the sandwich itself was straight up simple and lacking. Just some balsalmic sloppily splashed inside and buffalo mozz, some hunks of tomato and a bit of basil. Yikes! At LEAST spread on some pesto and get some moistly-ness action to stop this bread from sticking to my gulliver! As I waited for said sandwich, I was fantasizing about a cool spin on it - maybe toasted and melty! Oh yeahhhhhh. I could almost taste it... and then, well, you heard what I got instead. I was sad.

I ate part of half and then pulled out the innards and ate them without the bread. Bummer, I thought this place was going to rock. Maybe if I was a meat-eater I would have really gotten something I enjoyed, it seems like lots of people really dig this place.

Somehow I have managed to live in this city for more than a decade without visiting Larchmont Wine & Cheese, a travesty that was rectified today.  And not a moment too soon.  Everything I'd heard about the sandwiches is true.  Mine was fantastic!  I arrived at 11:30am and there was a bit of a line.  It took me about 10 minutes to reach the counter and place my order.  The sandwich makers weren't super friendly, but they make a mean sandwich.  My turkey on French baguette was delicious, fresh and full of flavor.  I also picked a bag of Isabella's Cookies, which I recommend.  They are very tasty.  The deli and food section of the store has all sorts of wonderful items and I enjoyed looking around at all of it.  If I was sending a food item as a gift or looking for something special for a dinner party, there are a bunch of things here that would work well.

I also made a wine purchase while I was at the store.  They don't have a huge selection, but the Loire Valley sauvignon blanc I chose was very nice.  Service at the check out counter was very pleasant.  I will definitely be coming here often now!

This is a review for their sandwiches:
I've been going to this place for 7 years now... and it never gets old!  This is the my must go-to place when I come back home for breaks.  The sandwiches are simple and the ingredients are fresh. The best part is that you get to see what exactly goes in it because they make it in front of you.  They have a wide variety of sandwiches from salami, veggie, turkey, prosciutto, etc. - and you can choose to get the half sandwich (for all you health conscious angelenos .. this is perfect), and tailor the sandwich to however you want it.

My favorite is the turkey on ciabatta with avocados (half).

If you need a quick bite to eat for lunch/brunch, you MUST come here! yum!

This review is purely for the wine part of Larchmont Wine and Cheese, though I will say the rest of the store looked very interesting, with lots of tasty hard to find gourmet items so were I reviewing that my rating might have been higher.

Anyway I'll be frank - I'm a wine neophyte - so to battle that I generally go to wine stores where the people there are wine masters and can guide me to a great bottle (i.e. the folks at Du Vin). So maybe I am spoiled, but when I asked the folks at Larchmont Cheese and Wine for a nice Bordeaux I saw no spark behind their eyes, no particular knowledge of any wine leapt from their mouths. Instead I was handed 2 bottles that seemed randomly picked off the shelves. When I asked which one they would suggest I was told the more expensive one (it was double the price of the other - $38). I felt like I was just being told to buy the more expensive bottle so I asked why they liked it better and after a short pause was told "it's more complex"). Hmmm...I'm doubting they ever tried this bottle of wine.

Anyway I brought it over to my girlfriends, opened it and hated it (in all fairness she and her parents thought it was drinkable, if not a little unusual for a Bordeaux). I will add though that her father, who worked in the wine business and lived in France for 20+ years was very surprised that the bottle cost what it did (he didn't know the vineyard, but based his comment on things like viscosity, etc - I don't know, whatever wine people use to judge wine). His other comment was that it might have been better to let it sit another 5 years before opening it.

Let's just say I've bought 30+ bottles at Du Vin and never once didn't like the wine nor ever heard a comment like maybe it wasn't ready to be drunk yet.

All in all the staff inspired zero confidence in me. It's a quaint store and maybe I'll go back for cheese or some English tasties, but never again will I buy another bottle of wine there.

Delicious sandwiches, totally independent feel, and fair prices make this grocery-type deli a new favorite of mine.  I had the prosciutto on French bread; it was simply prepared so I could savor the taste of the prosciutto, (amazing) fresh mozzarella cheese, and oil/vinegar dressing.

Only downside was the long line, but definitely worth the wait.  Also, the seating is very limited, my friend and I had to share a table with two other gentlemen (one of whom was Dr. Phil), but given the European sensibilities evident in this lunch spot, something about sharing a table felt quite right.

This place is yummy. i rode my bike there from culver city. it was an awesome ride and my hunger was mos def satisfied. but the main reason that compelled me to venture to this spot was that people wrote "its better than bay cities"...not in the slightest. this place has some good ingredients. everything looks super fresh and tastes delicious. but bay cities, man? BC's is a full service super italian-american delicatessen. and BC's bread. come on man! But I will give this Larchmont spot a lot of cred. they have a good thing going. and there is a spot for cannoli down the street! ...instant fan of the village!

The sandwiches here are amazing. I always get the turkey on ciabatta. The proscuitto is also fantastic. They also give you pickles and olives on the side, and I just stick to the pickles because I don't like olives. But delicious pickles. Lines can get long but you can also call ahead to place an order. The workers and owner are also nice and friendly. They remember regulars and their orders. It's definitely worth the wait of the lines plus you can make a full meal of it by grabbing a cold drink and some chips.

Turkey is their most popular so they run out sometimes. That and bread meaning they're done for the day. They put signs on the door for that. Sandwich counter closes at 5.

My ciabatta was rubbery, my cheese was cheap, my balsamic was acrid, and my meat was dry.   Just like steakhouses, this local institution cashes in on our reactionary hankering for the past and our evolutionary lust for meat and carbohydrates.  Wise up, people -- we could make this stuff at home.  With better ingredients.  For much less money.  And if we did that, we wouldn't have to wait in line listening to the rabble blather about their fiddle-faddle.  I haven't felt this dirty after a meal since enjoying what that little doggie did to my leg under the table.

As one reviewer suggested, go up the street to The Larchmont Larder (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) for your food, and hit K & L Wine Merchants (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) for your wine.

Prosciutto or Salami sandwich...

Just Do it!

Don't ask questions, you can't go wrong with either choice.

Fresh quality, good service, a bit pricey (not really if you consider it's in Larchmont) but even then it's worth the lunch line.

Let's just say this is on the list of places that I take my buddies when they fly in from as far as Asia.

This place is awesome.  They have a great assortment of wines and ridiculous little candies, like Haribo (love) and hard to find European snacks.  I think the market is just as great as the sandwiches.  I've had the veggie and the salami with manchego cheese, and the salami won for deliciousness hands down.  No doubt.  The veggie, quite honestly, was boring.  The salami with manchego with sun dried tomato spread on focaccia is great.  i'm not nuts about their potato salad in the cold case, though.

All in all, I really like this place, but I don't think it's the best sandwich ever. It's pretty darn good, though.

would I drive from silver lake on a weekend afternoon for this sandwich? probably not.  do i really like it? yes.

2nd best sandwich in the world. Yes, in the world. Their bread is good but not great, however they have a special gift. Razor thin slices of salami that melt in your mouth but not in your hand. Well, maybe there too, that's how thin it is. Don't worry though, they don't give you tiny portions just because it is so thin. The flavor is robust and very meaty. They also have a lot of really great goodies to snoop around the store and pick up while you are there.

I have only been once but will always stop by here if I'm in the area.

Note: This is more a market, not a cafe.

Great for a mid-day snack, lunch sandwich or picking up wine and cheese for a dinner party.  My sandwich was fresh and delicious!

The little cramped shop was crowded, yet at every turn and corner I found new and delightful candies, specialty foods, cured meats, etc.

A small and great place for the Larchmont area.  Only downside is they are open strange hours (not weekends...wha?!)

Oh delicious sandwiches sandwiches!!!
Amaaaaazing wine wine wine!!!
Cheese cheese cheese!!!
YUM YUM YUM!!!

Love this place.  GREAT sandwiches with interesting spreads and fresh baguettes.  MMMmm. I love a place who pays attention to their veggie sandwich, and makes it a delicious option for all, rather than just a meatless throwback.  They use balsamic, vinegar, roasted peppers, avocado.. and cornichons and olives with every order.  Mmmm..

The wine here is fabulous as well. Simon's selections are always spot on perfection.. The prices are a little steep, but not too bad.  I've never tried a wine here I didn't enjoy and want to drink again.

The only complaint I have is that the sandwich makers are always grumpy and unfriendly. What's that all about?  Everyone else is super helpful.   Still not a big enough deal to change my five star review, however.

Oh, and if you ever need a party platter, this is the place to go.  Always a crowd pleaser, always on time, always perfect.

Oh, and I'd recommend calling your order in.. the line gets super long around lunch time. But well worth the wait.

The reason these sandwiches are so good to me is because of the bread. The prosciutto, mozzarella and other ingredients are of high quality and fresh but if the bread is no good, you don't have a sandwich. I have never had the ciabatta because the baguette is perfect. It's perfectly crispy on the outside and sqiushes down to a thin layer of bread on the inside (I don't like bread that sits in your stomach like a brick). Sometimes they are too heavy on the basalmic, but just coach them through it!  They don't mind.  Love the olives and cornichons, it's a nice touch. This review is solely on the sandwiches, not the wine. I do like the selection of european condiments, sodas and candy. I can't believe I'm saying this but, they actually sell the bread, you could get the ingredients and make your own at home.  By the way, you can't save this sandwich, you have to eat it right away, on the spot. There is too much potential to get soggy. If you have to take it on a picnic, I recommend assembling it later or get it with no vinegar and no mozz.

What a wonderful place. These sandwiches are in my top three, ever. The bread is fabulous, as is their olive tapenade or sun dried tomato mayo and prosciutto and turkey and cheese and balsamic and chips and wine selection. The service is friendly despite the almost constant line for sandwiches. You can also place your order ahead of time but be prepared to struggle with parking and a line at the register.

i love it.
I always get the salami on the baguette.
The prosciutto and caprese are good, but the salami is just amazing.
And oh how i adoreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the little sweet pickles!!

It seems that over the years their popularity has increased exponentially. So, I recommend that you call them and order ahead for pick up as there is a HUGE lunch rush and they usually close early/run out of ingredients.

But, definitely, GO! They also have wonderful drinks and other treats that you can't find at your local supermarket.

One of the best sandwich places ever that often has a huge line during the lunchtime rush.  You can buy the sandwich and then go outside to eat at one of the little tables.  There are also chips, drinks, cookies, and candy you can buy to compliment your lunch.

My favorite sandwich by far is salami add avocados no vinegar. 2nd fav is the black ham but i get all sorts of substitutions. on baguette!

Also a great selection of wines and cheeses for the gourmand.

Tip: call ahead during lunch if you want to pick up a sandwich because its super busy then and they sometimes run out of certain sandwiches.

This place is fantastic! These are the best sandwiches I've found by far in LA - The salami and manchego is my favorite, but the turkey is also really good. I don't think the sandwiches are that overpriced  - You can always go for a half sandwich and a bag of chips and you're out the door for under $6. But man, these sandwiches are good! What's even better is that it's in one of my favorite spots in Los Angeles - Larchmont Village. This is such a gem of a street with great shops, restaurants, a fabulous farmers market on sundays, etc. etc. This little street reminds me of the Rockridge area of Berkeley/North Oakland up home, so it always brings that element of happiness when I visit.

I'd like to come to Larchmont Village Wine Spirits & Cheese sometime and do a little more exploring however, as their wine selection and variety of tasty looking snacks is out of this world

My favorite shop, hands down, in Larchmont Village, I am so relieved this little gem has staying power.  I have been coming here for years for their heavenly turkey on ciabatta.  Lordy, it is one kickin' sandwich.  High quality Swiss gruyere, a fabulous sundried tomato spread, extra virgin olive oil, amazing balsamic vinegar, fresh greens and tomato, and delicious deli-sliced roasted turkey breast all lying on a bed of fantastically soft and chewy Italian ciabatta.  Half a sandwich and one of their specialty Italian sodas is a perfect lunch.  A whole sandwich and glass of Beaujolais is downright gluttonous, or the answer when I am famished.  The way the balsamic soaks into the thick ciabatta is exemplary.  Sandwiches should all do this.

In addition, the wine selection, though small, is wonderful.  In particular, they have great Burgundies and some stellar Italians, like an amarone that makes me weak in the knees.  To go with the wine is a decadent array of cheeses and chocolate.  I love browsing and the guys who work here could not be any nicer and helpful.  I just love it here.  Definitely call in your sandwich order.  They run out of turkey FAST.  The other sandwiches are plenty tasty, too, (especially the wafer-thin sliced salami, yum yum yum) but I live for the turkey.

Why is it that a British accent makes everything just seem so much more intelligent?  Is that why I trust one of the employee's recommendations unquestioningly on the two occasions I was there?  It's either that, or the fact that when I show up with one of the recommended wines as a gift, I get "oohs" and "aahs" from the room.

Unique selection and very helpful staff, but I'm not sure it has the breadth of some other wine shops.  Then again, when you have quality, you don't need that much quantity.
