I visited this place for the first time tonight. The lady running the place was over-the-top friendly. She made me feel very welcome, and told me to look around for whatever I wanted. She helped me find everything I needed, and even talked me into some seaweed snacks that I really didn't even want. :D
The only complaint I have is that when I got home, I realized the peanut sauce I purchased has a "best if used by" date of 2006. I would take it back, but it was cheap and it tastes good... so whatever. :)
Bottom line is that I was blown away by how much they had to offer. I'm not an expert, but I found the place to be a joy. -

From what I could tell, Lao Trading Co. offers groceries from all over, from Vietnamese to Chinese to Korean to Thai. The Japanese options seemed limited (no miso soup!), but there were about 20 different kinds of rice noodles, as well as dried fruit, wasabi peas, sweets, coconut milk, drink mixes, canned fruits and vegetables, spices, sauces, and frozen foods. I was only able to find two kinds of green tea, but they had a lot of ginseng, jasmine (mmmm!), and "ballerina's" diet teas.
Lao is really clean and inviting, and also offers pots, pans, and decorative bowls and spoons, along with some fresh produce and a small selection of CDs. The prices range from reasonable ($2.30 soy sauce) to ridiculously cheap ($0.95 for a pack of rice noodles). I'd definitely recommend stopping by here if you're looking for Asian groceries or if you're interested in trying some authentic Asian food that you wouldn't find at most Chinese takeout joints.
