Lana and Mark are absolutely amazing here. Lana is super nice and professional, and I love seeing her.
I've been getting my hair cut by Mark for 3 years now, and I've had a range of styles, from long to short, and conservative to wild, and I kid you not, my hair has never looked bad. He manages to cut hair in a way that makes growing it out look simple. I've never had an awkward in-between look, too.
The atmosphere inside is always upbeat yet relaxing. It always looks clean inside, the stations are never messy, and everyone's happy. I will always recommend people here. Always.
Oops I almost forgot to write a review on here about Lana. I've always had problems finding a stylist for my nappy puff. Basically if Rosanne Rosanna Dana and Juan Epstein had a kid I would be the product...as far as hair.
So I set up an appointment to see Lana after reading some rave reviews on both here and a curly hair website. Long story short...I'm in love. She did an awesome job with my cut and color. My hair actually looks sexy! I mean I would totally want to do me if I were a guy just from my hair alone!
Lana is friendly, funny and charismatic...everything you could possibly want to look for in a stylist. Let's face it...you spend alot of time in a salon when you are getting the works on your hair and it helps to have a stylist that doesn't have the personality of a potato.
Anyhow, this was my first visit to Lana but it definitely will not be my last!
I'm conflicted. I liked my hair cut (Mark was great -- no issues there. He's REALLY detailed and likes to take his time with you to give you a quality cut.) Lana was friendly, and the salon itself was super clean and inviting.
But here's the rub -- I was told a cut was $x on the phone and yes, they took credit cards. When I left, it was $20 more than what was quoted on the phone, and they hemmed and hawed about me putting the tip on the card (I did eventually because I had ZERO cash on me).
And the up-selling on products and services -- okay everyone does it -- but it really grinds my gears when you end up paying more than you expect AND you get the sales-ey attitude along with it.
And yes, they ARE expensive compared to other Lakeview spots.
Lana has been cutting my hair for about 3 years, and I love her! I have curly hair that can be difficult to cut and style, not to mention difficult to color. Lana does a fantastic job with my hair. Not only does she make it look great, but she listens to my desires and limitations. Although listening to the client should go without saying, unfortunately not every stylist does that! Lana is great about talking with you about options.
Not only does Lana do a great job, but it's fun to go. Lana is upbeat, funny, and charming. I look forward to going!
Don't forget that she doesn't take credit or debit cards, but she does take checks (and cash, of course!). Finally, her prices are reasonable and in line with Lakeview. Give Lana a try: I think you'll love her!

Totally recommend LANA!!!!!!
I first heard about Lana back in !!!! 1994!!!!!! in an Allure Magazine Review!
Since then Lana has been cutting my hair. I have thick, long, wavy hair and everytime I leave Lana's salon I look like a movie-star.
She listens to me when I want layers, when I want to go short, and when I have no idea what I want she makes recommendations and lets me decide. I totally love her work. She can give an awesome cut & is a master with the blow-dryer! I simply adore her. My bad haircut days were OVER once I met her.
Mark is a genius with curly wavey hair! He gave me a cut that finally dries nicely all by itself and looks really great. I am so grateful to have found him and he really takes his time to talk with you before he starts to find out what would suit you and your lifestyle best. He is awesome and I am excited about getting my next haircut there and I haven't been excited about anyone person for along enough to stay loyal but I definitely feel Mark is the one for me.
They also have some great products that smell amazing. Its a charming little place and while I was there they did some color on this other woman and I have to say her color turned out amazing, it was this dark chocolate with honey highlights, it was so beautiful.
This salon used to be called Arabesque, but has since been bought out and totally redone by Lana, who was one of the stylists.
Lana is an excellent stylist - she'll tell you what she thinks would look good, and you'll know exactly what she's going to do before you do it. If you've got wavy or curly hair, Lana is especially good, because she understands that the textures and patterns are different. She even understands - probably from having curly hair herself - that curly hair can be trimmed wet, but the final cut and texture, etc. have to be given when the hair is dry and the curl pattern is active.
Lana isn't a product-pusher, she's friendly and fun, and she will NOT lie to you. If you come in with a picture of a hairstyle and you either won't look right in it or you've got the wrong hair or face for it, she'll tell you. She won't pretend you can go from a chin length bob to shoulder length in "a few months." In fact, she told me that if I wanted to grow my hair out, I shouldn't come back for three moths, until I had enough hair to style.
Lana has a lot of experience cutting all kinds of hair, and it shows. It may be a little strange to have a stylist talk to you so much about your hair routine and what you think about your hair and how you feel about having it short/medium/long, but that's part of what the (fairly substantial) fee is for. Lana will give you a haircut that might not be exactly what you thought you wanted when you walked in, but it will be the right haircut for your face, lifestyle, and hair type.
Right now, the salon is short on stylists, so book early if you know you want to see Lana.
Basic fee for a cut is $60, which is a bit pricey for Lakeview (IMHO), but I consider the consultation and the lessons on how to make my hair do what I want it to do, along with some advice on products to use and others to avoid, to be part of the fee for the cut. And it's well worth it, in my eyes.
Lana is lying to you. I can attest that I DID NOT GO TO HER SALON a total of 10 times and Lana humiliated me in front of Mark giving me a lecture about how he was so sensitive and how he would never intentionally give me a bad cut. I can say now with pride Lana never cut my hair. She used to work at another salon and she gave me a deep conditioning Phyto oil treatment from another salon on Halsted street. After I expressed my deep distress she encouraged me to speak to her and she would refund my money in full. I agreed to listen to her but she never apologized and she was angry at me for suggesting a refund. She offered me TWO free deep conditioning treatments not a series of eight week treatments so I am letting the general public reading this review that they are exaggerating and now lying. Lana never cut my hair. I was not seeing Lana for 10 years. I can not believe the lies I am reading here on Yelp.com. I received several calls on my mobile number today and when I returned the call it was Lana Cyrus salon. I requested that they leave me alone and lose my number. I see this now as harassment. I gave this salon two stars because Angel was wonderful and I thought the salon was cute. I NEVER HAD MY HAIR CUT BY LANA EVER and I do not appreciate the fact that they are lying to the public. I feel this is slanderous and shameful on their part to imply I would see someone for 10 years. If I had seen Lana for 10 years then why on Earth would I request a brand new stylist? Lana makes no sense and the bold lies to cover up one mistake shows true cowardice. Not everyone likes a haircut why should I willingly make anything up. I was in tears after Lana agreed to refund me my money. Instead of her apologizing she said I was filled with venom. I cried after leaving her salon. I sincerely cried and she offered TWO conditioning treatments so I said if in two months this cut grew out nicely I would apologize and pay Mark the money that was refunded. It has not grown out nicely at all. There are cow licks everywhere and it looks awkward. I do not appreciate Lana's lies and trying to cover up a stylist's mistake. Everyone has an off day or makes a mistake in judgement. FOR THE RECORD I did not visit this salon for 10 years and I repeat Lana never cut my hair. If she did I would not have been sent to Mark. He did not consult with me for 90 minutes either. Because he ran out of product for a color he decided to just chop off my hair without knowing what would be the end result. People make mistakes but I hate the fact they are lying to make me look like a bitter person. I thought the salon was cosmetically beautiful but I hate the way Lana is suggesting that I have allowed her to cut my hair when I travel so often. I travel for the work I do and can not stick with the same stylist which is most likely why I never get my ideal dream cut. This is a sad part of my life and I am sorry I can not enjoy the same stylist. I have NEVER HAD MY HAIR CUT BY LANA SO if I am asked by anyone on internet land to vouch for this I will gladly do so. I think that my review was accurate and truthful and so Lana should not make false statements. My God who would turn down eight weeks worth of free treatments? Does that make any sense to anyone here reading these reviews. You are not always going to please 100 percent of the people who come to visit your salon so she should not make up lies or distort the truth. This haircut is awkward and the layers too short and fractured. It will be a year or more before I get to my goal. If Mark had left the Mullet alone and if he decided to have a bit more patience I could have met my goal so much quicker.
Great experience from consultation to finish. I'm African-American 3b/c hair, Curly, it's just below shoulder length. Straight, it's at the small of my back. I wanted to keep the length. She did that plus she put in a layer for framing my face. She also put in a little copper highlights to break up this mass of black curly that can overwhelm my face. I love the result. She listens to you. Asks about your routine. She didn't try to talk me into any kind of drastic cut for the sake of cutting hair. She told me that beautiful curly hair is already a style. Highly, highly recommended!
Lana is the first person to ever cut my hair who seemed to really think about *my* hair while cutting it! I have a LOT of hair that's somewhere between wavy and curly, and she took all of that into consideration when cutting it. She did a great job making my pretty basic long hair look the same, but BETTER. Plus-- and this is the ONLY time that this has ever happened to me-- she styled my hair, then rinsed it out and had ME do it, while she was there to help. AMAZING! Plus, because I told her I was growing my hair out, she gave me a cut that lasted a long long time, and she even told me not to come back for quite a few months, to give it a chance to grow. Love Lana!!
I've been a devotee of Lana Cyrus for many years. Ever since I found her almost 20 years ago, I've never run across someone who knows how to deal with hair that is both fine and curly. Most places expect curly hair to be coarse and dense and mine is extremely fine and thinning. Most recently, Lana cut and colored my hair without making me feel embarrassed of how thin it is. Thinning hair is relatively common for women but no one talks about how difficult it is for us to deal with. Lana was a true professional and my hair looks fuller and thicker as a result of her expert cut, color and styling. I highly recommend her for anyone but particularly for women experiencing hair loss or thinning.
There's hope! Go see Lana!
Lana was very friendly and very quick! I went in for a wash and blow dry. She got all my naps gone and got my hair bone straight! She was reasonably priced and was on time :). This will be one of my new places to get my hair done. I already recommended it to friends :)
Lana has been my stylist for almost six years and I have no desire to go to anyone else. When I first moved to Chicago, I was very apprehensive about finding someone to properly cut and color my hair. It's curly and very thick, and therefore takes someone with real know-how to treat it properly. The first stylist I saw (based on a recommendation from my sister-in-law) was alright--the cut was good, but the color could have been better (she was using permanent dye and it always came out just a little redder than necessary) and she was only open until 7 p.m. Then someone recommended Lana and I've been going ever since. Since she has curly hair herself, she knows how important the right cut is, even if she's working on someone who has straight hair. She's also fantastic with color--I'm really a brunette, but with her skills, I've had true redheads assume that I'm one, too. My hair is a lot healthier now that she's coloring it because she uses semi-permanent dye. Lana's personality is the icing on the cake. She's very warm and funny, and very straightforward. She is open to your ideas about what you want done with your hair, but she'll tell you straight up if she thinks it's a bad idea. Her hours are great (for me at least) since she's open in the evenings and on Saturdays. Some might consider her prices a little steep, but I've always felt you get what you pay for--and Lana is definitely worth it.
I went to Lana Cyrus's salon a few times over a year's period of time. Not quite sure why, as the highlights by Lana were never done properly--always had to go back for a retouchup as she could never get close to the scalp. After all, what's the point of getting a touchup if you walk out of the salon with roots?!! Lana is usually running late, and once didn't even show up for my appointment--stated she did not have it on her calendar!! Thankfully, John was there and able to take me--he did an awesome job and I was planning on continuing with him until I got my Keratin treatment. Do not get a Keratin treatment from this salon! My hair is completely damaged and breaking off--not quite sure how short it will end up, but it looks pretty bad. Lana eventually did refund my money, but never admitted that she or the treatment damaged my hair. "It must be something you're doing at home" she stated!! The refund was good, but not satisfying at all--Lana did not return any further phone calls and did not offer any remedies/conditioning treatments/haircuts to help the major screw-up done by her salon--very unprofessional and disappointing!! Honestly, there are too many salons in the city to bother with this one!!
