MONEY! This is some money ass pizza.
Thin crust. Nice and crunchy. The cheese slice is LOADED with the mozarella...which I personally love. And the sauce, yeah... this works.
Don't f around...get a slice of cheese. It's Godly.
My only gripe is finding a parking spot in Westwood. Good luck with that.
Hadn't tried this place yet but have a few friends that really like it and one that swears their pizza is the best she's ever had... I don't know about all that but their pizza is definitely better than any competition in the area.
The service is a bit dry but the girl that takes your order puts in at least some effort, and the pizza more than makes up for it. The flavors are plentiful, even if you just get a plain cheese pizza, which is relatively hard to do. Their prices are more than fair and you can even get a two-for-one deal on certain nights of the week.
If you're eating here, the decor is something to to check out, it seems like they used to really be into putting new stuff on the walls in the past but haven't done anything new in a few years now... all the pictures of celebrities are from the 80's and 90's, not a single one from this decade. But the subway map and the other NY hallmarks make for an interesting experience. Plus, they open late which makes this an awesome place to get drunk food.
That this place scores such high reviews is a testament to the dearth of quality pizzerias in the Los Angeles area. Yes, there is some decent pizza, and no, I am not a pizza slob (I swear! I often enjoy some $1 Celeste from the frozen food aisle!).
The build-up to this place was definitely overblown (as I had clearly read too many yelp reviews claiming Lamonica's as the best pizza in Westwood). Well if this is the best pizza in Westwood, I'm not having pizza in Westwood again!
I had two slices, one (sausage) was fresh and the other (veggie) had clearly been sitting out for a while. But after being re-heated in the oven for a few minutes, they both tasted very satisfying. The crusts were toasted to a light crisp and provided a good texture, but the toppings lacked pizazz! And if there's anything that makes a good pizza, it's pizazz (hell, they're almost the same word)! The pizza slices were thin but still breadier than I thought NY pizzas should be. I would have appreciated more cheese and grease! Well, if I really had a hankering for a fresh pizza, I'd probably rather have one delivered from Pizza Hut or make a Digiorno's pizza myself.
So the food was only 50%. And the ambiance of this pizza place was a sanitized but grimy cafeteria reproduction of a New York city pizza place. So, not impressed there either.
Service was good! No complaints there. And the lunch deal ($4.95 for two slices) is excellent.
Lived in the Westwood area for 6 years and for some reason i never ventured into here.
2 slices for 4.75 during lunch. That's not too shabby compared to other pizza shops that sell by the slice in LA. It was a pleasant experience. The crust was crispy yet soft enough to fold without breaking. The sauce gushed out of the pizza and the mozzarella had a bold taste. Needless to say, I will be back.
One of my two fave pizza places in L.A. for slices (the other being Abbot's Pizza in Santa Monica & Venice).
Their veggie pizza is delicious (even for a meat eater like me), and they always have plenty of types of pizza slices on display.
As of October 2009, they recently lowered prices, too, which helps. Most are $2.55. You can get a slice + an awesome salad for less than $5, too.
Oh, did I mention, the New York Subway motif? The whole place is full of signs from NYC, with a custom painted mural in the back, too. Fits the theme.
Protip: street parking can be tough, but there's a 5 minute loading zone space pretty much out front, so you can duck in for a slice to go.
This is the best pizza I've had in L.A., hands down. It's cheap, they're fast, and most of the time it's straight out the oven.
This is one of the few places in L.A. where you can buy pizza by the slice. I love the New York style and the Sicilian; you won't be disappointed. And for the record, Enzo's does NOT have better pizza! If you're looking for good pizza in Westwood (and not too greasy) Lamonica's is where it's at.
Who cares about the decor...I just want to EAT!!!
The only reason we would come here was because one day of the week, it's buy one get one free. Other than that, I see zero reason to come here. This is NOTHING like good New York pizza. The pizza has no crisp to it and is so limp you're better off eating it with a fork and knife. Because it is so limp, good luck trying to get your toppings and cheese to stay on your slice. Never liked this place...
Went there for a late night cheap dinner, got what I wanted. Not the best pizza, not a place to go out of your way to try it, but if you are around and need a quick fix, this place is as good as any. Pizza could be cheaper for what it is, got two slices (big, one might have been enough) plus a Mexican coke for $7. Like I said, a little expensive for pizza, but if you want cheap pizza, this place is for you
Really one of the stronger slices of NY style pizza in the city, actually, maybe the best. With a very bold sauce and a crust that straddles a perfect balance between crispy and doughy, this a truly tasty, no nonsense, slice.
It also strikes a nice balance between a gourmet NY slice and the cheap guilty pleasure of a Peter Piper Pizza.

Lamonica's is my favorite pizza place in Westwood by far, and it's up there in terms of LA pizza places in general. It maybe not be a perfect replica of New York-style pizza, but I'm content with where it's at. And at Lamonica's prices (about $2 something a slice), my wallet's happy too.
The decor inside is just a little bizarre. A lot of the Subway stuff to look at here and there, but there there's a big mural painted on the wall there. There's a subway train and all these various celebrities standing nearby, but the perspective of this image is totally random. It's interesting to look at while you're waiting for your slice to heat up, and I must say it gives the place a little charm.
But the pizza itself is delicious. My personal favorites are the mushroom and veggie pizza, but all the meat toppings are great as well. The employees are nice too (which I can't say for all pizza places in Westwood...Enzo's I'm looking at you), and deliveries are fast. Big ups. My only down on their service is that everything is cash only. A little bit of a bummer...unless your a Wells Fargo member like I am (ATM's just down Gayley, very convenient).
Oh, and there's 25 cent garlic rolls. Not the greatest things ever, but I can't argue over something that's easily priced almost a dollar more everywhere else.

Originally from NY, I expected better. The place was dirty, tables filthy and we had to clean our own. Value for one topping slice was and size was worthless. To top it off, the server/cashier was a ditz. Only dough/crust, was good, but, despite our request the server did not put the spinach on top of our white pizza. At first we thought the dark green parsley bits in the cheese must be the spinach, but when we walked out, the server was giving others mounds of spinach and when we complained the mgr was belligerent and used profanity. I don't care how many stars have visited there, never again!!
Tried Lamonica's bc of all the great reviews, but unfortunately both my boyfriend and I got sick after eating it. Also the pizza was no great shakes. There has got be better pizza out there than this. I won't be going back.
The best NY Style pizza I have had in LA so far. But, what do I know, I am a California boy.

I LOVE Lamonica's pizza! Their cheese, soft crust, large slices, and never to shy about the toppings..... It's good as it gets! When you smell the pizza, and take a bite into it, it truly tastes like you're eating NY style pizza. I've had other NY style pizzas in L.A, and it just doesn't quite measure up.

Love the chewy crust on this pizza.
I would give 3.5 stars if I could. Pretty good pizza, great crust. However, cash only. Check out the lunch specials if you want pizza by the slice, you can get 2 cheese slices and a small soda for $4.75 including tax.
Ok so they claim NEW YORK Pizza.. I am from NYC, been there all my life.. I have only been in Los Angeles for 2 years so I can still classify myself a typical New Yawker LOL
I got to try this so called NY Pizza and must say they dont get the prize. It is the closest as far as others I have tried here in Los Angeles, but it just doesn't have that authentic New York City flavor they have in their sauce or even their dough.
Also the size of the slice of pizza is so small, in New York city they are a nice size. I usually opt for the sicilian slice to at loeast feel like your getting full and your money's worth.
Always make sure you ask for a "Fresh" slice from a pie that just came out because I have been there a few times only to see old pizza that has been sitting out for hours and looks dried out.

Lamonica's has been in this area for a long time, and whenever I'm in Westwood I stop in and have a slice of cheese! Great service, thin, dry crust, flavorful tomato sauce, and served hot to order!
Cheap: 5 bucks for 2 big slices at lunch
Good: Incredibly delicious (maybe not New York good, but still tasty)
Fast: Total wait time was like 8 minutes during the lunch rush.
Nice decor: Really good choice of fixtures to give it a NY subway vibe.
and MEXICAN COKE. That's right, you heard me, MEXICAN COKE. WITH REAL SUGAR. Nuff said.
Way less greasy than pizza from Enzo's or Italian Express. I actually feel healthy eating this pizza (okay, well maybe not so healthy). I usually order fresh tomato and spinach toppings and it makes the pizza soo good. LaMonica's is definitely one of my staples for a stay-in night. It's so easy - they deliver it right to your door - super convenient, and way better quality than other delivery pizzas like Domino's or Pizza Hut.
When you're just not feeling the bars, a LaMonica's pizza, large diet coke, warm couch, and a movie is the perfect way to spend an evening in.

One of a couple reasons to actually consider going into Bruin Country...
FIGHT ON!
Anyway, quite simply, a great pizza. The fresh toppings (we always get tomato and basil) and the dough they ship from NY make for probably the best pizza I've had in LA. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in the area, but it's worth it. A nice little unassuming little spot that I'll be going to for years to come, with my USC shirt on of course!
Don't forget, Mondays are a buy one get one free night. They don't have it posted, nor do they ring it up if you don't ask for it. Make sure and ask for it to save some $...

You may not want to believe it, but New York City's tap water regularly wins awards for best-tasting water in the country. There is a myth (that I don't believe) which says it is the water that makes NYC pizza dough so good. Is that why the Lamonica's pizza box says that they ship their dough 2,800 miles across the country? Oh well, there must be easier ways to get good dough, but I can say that Lamonica's dough is really good.
The problem is that pizza is more than throwing toppings on good dough. You've got to have quality toppings and you have to know how to layer it all together. For such good crust, it was unfortunate to see mediocre packaged mozzarella and a sauce that made the tasty crust too limp to hold the crazy minefield of fresh tomatoes on what I had hoped to be a traditional Marguerita pie. The pizza wasn't bad, but it's discouraging to see such good crust almost sabotaged. It's like putting a bag over the head of your hot girlfriend. What's up with that? Where's the respect? Where's the appreciation?
I wouldn't turn down another slice from Lamonica's, especially since I got the thinnest crust of any pizza I've had outside of New York. As a pizza purist, I appreciate that. I also really enjoyed the genuine NYC subway signage in their establishment. It just takes more thin crust and subway signage to keep me going back.

Lamonica's!
Aw man, I haven't had this pizza since 1999. I remember it being only ok. You eat it because someone ordered it. Free pizza = good pizza. It was never something I particularly craved. Back then I was all about the Fatbuger. I also went to the old Shakey's down the street because they had a UCLA student card discount. Anyway, Lacmonica's... man, memories!
Tips: It's pizza. Just eat it.

Lamonica's is one of the best pizza places here in LA. It is better than Papa J. and the other franchise pizza place. The pizza is very tasty and fresh. The crust is great.
Delivery is very fast. Price is good.
Now, I refuse to get pizza from other places because Lamonica's makes every $ worth it.

Great, cheap pizza! They have a special deal on Mondays, which is buy two larges for the price one.
A huge thin and crazy slice of pizza served freshly baked for just $2.50, what more can you ask for? Lamonic's is conveniently located in the heart of Westwood, where many UCLA students as myself frequent for a quick bite in between studying at the locak Starbucks and Coffeebean. When you come in, you will see a variety of pizzas ready made. You pick which pizza slice(s) you want, and they place it back into the oven for you. When served, the pizza tastes fresh and the cheese is hot and stringy. The staff are friendly and laugh at your corny jokes.
This place is my favorite pizza joint, way better than Mulberry's. Don't go there! Even Little Ceaser's tastes better. No lie!

eh pretty good if you just want a quick bite, but it is in no way something i would drive out for, or crave. the prices are good, it won't burn a hole in your wallet, but the pizza for me was just average. My favorite part is that it is close to UCLA so the place is filled with hot college boys.. HELL YA!

Leathery and tasteless cheese and ingredients. Don't be lured by their Monday deals.
Enzo is WAY better (I have *them* 5 stars. Haha).
The pizza by the slice is pretty good here and very convenient. They have a few different topping combinations available, including pineapple and ham, spinach and tomato, in addition to your standard pepperoni and cheese varieties. Their standard triangular slices are good size, but then they also have some thicker square-shaped slices (with pepperoni and cheese only) which are very delicious and seem to be more filling. They also have these cool little garlic bread rolls for $0.35 cents which is perfect for those times when you feel like eating more than one slice of pizza, but aren't hungry enough for two slices.
For their slices (I'm not sure about their whole pizzas), they recently lowered their prices, probably in response to the whole economic slowdown that's affecting all kinds of business right now. I don't recall the exact prices but I think a single pepperoni slice used to be just under $3.00 has now been reduced 15-25 cents, which isn't a huge cut, but a good gesture on their part anyway.
i must admit that this place does have some awesome pizza! and i agree with john - it's probably the best NY pizza in LA i've ever had, if not the best tasting pizza i've had in awhile. what i love is the light crust and flavorful toppings. the pepperoni and tomato sauce soar!! and... i love how this little spot is adorned with nyc subway signs and maps... it's a little escape to and bite of the big city without the 6 hour flight =)

YES SIRRR! An absolutely delectable pizza! I'm sure you'll get your share of NYC Yelpers that will complain but I swear I've tasted pizza in both places and it can compete...the crust is thin and you can ask them to heat it up for a nice crispy bite...I don't know why more places in LA can't seem to get it right. But Lamonica's did it and did it right!
Suggestion: don't eat more than 4 slices in a row if you are the designated driver...has similar effects of sedative drugs at that point.

I've been eating here since I first moved to this country when I was 4 years old (I'm 24 now). 20 years!!! That's customer loyalty.
OK... sort of.
When we first came to America, my mom worked at a salon that was only two doors down from here. I ate dinner here on a fairly regular basis. Then my mom got another job, we moved and I sort of forgot this place ever existed.
Then I went to college. This place is so close to UCLA that it's hard to miss if you live in Westwood. It's easy to walk to, next to a lot of coffee place, Buffalo Exchange, and pretty darn tasty too. How can you beat that? I randomly walked into it one day and a flood of memories came back.
The crust is perfectly crisp, the taste is wonderful and how can you forget all those childhood memories? I've been going here consistently for about 7 years now. You can bet this will continue.
I heart LaMonica's! Friends from New York told me that this pizza tasted the closest to their beloved New York style pizza. I always just thought it was really good. And then I went to New York City, and upon returning and going through severe pizza withdrawal, LaMonica's was the only place that could cure me.
Their toppings are good, but sometimes just a bit ill-cut. I think specifically, I refer to their green peppers, which are just these huge, honkin' slices of vegetable on pizza. So while I like their toppings, man, is that plain 'ol cheese good enough to set me straight for the night. The crust isn't greasy, not too thin, not too thick. The sauce is just perfect. And with a dash of garlic, parmesan cheese, red chili peppers, and parsley flakes they have sittin' on the back counter, it's heaven.
From what I remember, they have 2-for-1 deals on Mondays that are phenomenal. I don't know if these are still the prices, but when I was in undergrad, which was about 3.5 years ago, you could get two large cheese pizzas for $11! Heck yes!

Wow, that was good. Huge pizza, fresh toppings, good price. Speedy delivery too. What's up with only taking cash? I order pizza maybe once a year and I'll definitely keep this place on my list when the next urge for pizza hits.

Ugh, I'm so tired of hearing people say this is close to NYC pizza. The only thing I would say this is close to in NYC is the pizza you get from street vendors.
The crust is rubbery, and the cheese is the same consistency as the dough. The only good thing about Lamonica's is that it's cheap as dirt.
If you want a good pizza in Westwood, try Enzo's around the block, or if it's late night and you want good value, try Italian Express 4 blocks away.
I'll give it 2 stars because it's edible and a value pie. And please stop comparing it to anything in the 10001.

AMAZING PIZZA.
That's all I can say.
Kind of pricey, but worth every penny.
A 2 topping whole pizza will run about $16.
Cash only.
I have had better pizza only a few other times in my life. Actually, it was better than a few different pizzas I have tried in New York... but right here in Westwood.
You have to give them credit, when you walk in this place it gives you of the old-style dingy New York atmosphere. Actually the first time I went here I got a blast from the past because some other costumers (a whole family) were straight out of the nineties. They were wearing running shoes with big hair, then they even had neon wind breakers. Yes! Neon windbreakers.
Costumer service here has never impressed me, but they get you your pizza and don't give you too much crap about it.
New york pizza? Nope. This place is a joke.
The westwood location has been here forever. I'll occasionally eat here, but its nothing to write home about. Eat it if you feel like eating unhealthy food that tastes like `ish. What do you expect, college students support this place.. probably the only reason they're still in business.
Want my advice? Go eat at ENZO's up the street. REAL Italian restaraunt owned by a real mob boss. Cool owner, guy actually lived up the block from me when I lived in LA.
I enjoy Lamonica's pizza each time I come to LA.
I can't speak on behalf of the "authentic New York taste," since I really haven't had much NYC pizza. For those who do care, the pizza dough at Lamonica's is actually made in NYC, which some folks seem to appreciate. All I know is that it's good pizza.
They deliver, or you can dine in. Pizzeria atmosphere. I suggest ordering a whole pizza if you do dine-in, and not order by the slice...Lamonica's is best enjoyed fresh!
Check it out!

I've never been to New York. Or New Jersey. So my review does not apply to those of you who "know the real deal" and consider anything that a California native has to say about pizza as bullshit. Anywho, it's not like this place needs another review anyway, but here's mine.
Good slices. I always get the regular cheese with a side of ranch. Their ranch is great here. Go over to their pizza condiment bar section and slap on some parmesan, some garlic salt, hot pepper flakes, and a little bit more oregano if that's your thing. Their crust is good. It's a pretty thin crust, just how I like it but sometimes it can vary in thickness- last time I went it was a tiny tiny bit thicker than the times before.
Either way, you're not going to get a better slice in Westwood.
