I guess I haven't written my review from last years Yelp Elite event. I totally missed the coffee tasting but was in on the tea tasting. I did sort of learn how they roast coffee and would love to work here as a roast master if I ever had the chance.

The tea tasting as you can see from the pictures was fantastic as well. The tea master who was schooling us on tea was very knowledgeable in every aspect of tea. I still like the straight tea instead of the ones with fruit in it but those did taste good too. The funny thing is the tea master really reminded me of Gordon Ramsey. I had almost anticipated him screaming at me for tasting the tea incorrectly but he was a really professional and courteous gentleman. Must be the English accent that has me thinking that of him comparing to Gordon Ramsey.

Excellent event and had hope to try their store front location in Silver Lake. Although someone told me they closed that down. If someone knows what's up, please send me a note about it. Thanks.

My GF and I went for a beautiful Sunday morn bike ride, saw this place and decided to give it a try...Such a drag to take your GF for a coffee and a bite and it turns into a overpriced mess of cold coffee, bad toast (now that takes skill) and completely terrible and dismissive service.  Perhaps this place is a not for a working shlub who desires a slight modicum of value.

I asked for a warm cup of $5.00 coffee, came cold, told the waiter and he took it and came back with a colder cup - I asked politely again and then watched him walk inside with the coffee and turn around without even sticking the cup in the micro or something, brought me the exact same cup..my GF took a video!  Will post on youtube after we add narration!

Asked for some butter and he brought out 1 lonely solitary butter pat.... maybe he was looking after our cholesterol.

Spent $25.00 - left hungrier than when we came with added
    bummed-outedness. Sad, really.

"So where does all this coffee come from?"

I had an opportunity to visit the wonderful factory, well warehouse, that all of LaMill's coffee and teas come from. It was definitely a Charlie Factory moment but with coffee and teas instead of chocolate.

My tour consisted of where they get coffee beans, how they grind them, the precise temperatures and storage requirements necessary to keep their coffee at tip top shape, and how to properly make a cup of joe. I was even able to sample some coffee from Africa and El Salvador America. "Wow.. they get their coffee from all sorts of places!" I also learned about all the types of teas they had, where they came from, and how to make a nice cup of tea. I was able to sample a bunch too. And I must say, everything about LaMill is about details. Every little detail, despite how small and insignificant it may seem, contributes to exactly why their products are so good.

I walked away from the tour realizing that people at LaMill love what they do, and how much work and dedication they put into their jobs just so you and me can have that sweet cup of tea or coffee. Not only that, but I walked away sampling some of their foods, including their pork slider. Their take of a slider is quite different, since it's a meat ball of pork instead of shredded pork. Did I like it? Well, yea! I gave LaMill five stars for a reason!

So next time you want a nice cup of tea or coffee and like some food to accompany it, I definitely suggest considering LaMill :)

    i'm done lamill.

sorry but this was the final straw.

my boyfriend's parents came into town yesterday and we went in to get some coffee to go. again, the guy with the snotty attitude was there. taller-ish white guy, sometimes fuzzy face, sometimes glasses and a hat. he was really rude and short with us and again the coffee took over 12 minutes to get when there was only one couple ahead of us. i have no idea why this guy hates his life so much but he never greets anyone. he never says hello. he just smirks and takes orders and makes coffee with a horrible attitude. i'm not asking for someone to throw me a parade everytime i walk in. i know what it's like... i work too.... i have my days too but every single friggin day it is like this with this employee. i was embarrassed again for taking my bf's parents to a place where we just got bad service and worse attitude.

my bf got his VANILLA latte and of course there was hardly any vanilla in it at all. it was barely noticeable. my bf's mom asked if they had decaf and the guy said yeah. the decaf was the last to come out because i guess they had to brew a pot but didn't inform us that's why it was taking so long. the communication skills of the employees is horrendous.

i'm totally over it. i'm done.

i'm on a mission to find a better, friendlier coffee place where i can take guests from out of town and not be treated like shit.

Hello, Yelpers - This listing is for the warehouse, not the coffeeshop in silverlake, people.  Read the address carefully...

Inside these concrete walls is where great coffee beans and tea leaves reaches their full potential - one step before coming to life in a coffee shop near you.

I participated in a private group tour of the facilities and learned a ton about coffee and tea.  I also witnessed how laborious the coffee roasting process is!

With service this bad, it doesn't matter what the coffee tastes like!

I've tried, several times but each time I've visited Lamill the service is so uncivil and impersonal, it leaves me stunned. The staff has such a high turnover I've never seen the same server twice. I can only imagine it's terrible management.  This cafe is out of place in our friendly Silver Lake neighborhood.

    COFFEE HEAVEN
    great, fun experience
their are knowledgeable about their espresso and coffee making without being pretentious -- i suggest choosing the coffee (flavor and way it's made) according to your preferences -- i like dark, non fruity flavors and have tried a special of theirs from africa that was amazing

    their food is GREAT
ive only had their breakfast but their bacon-mushroom egg dish cooked in a cocotte is awesome and the mini doughnut holes are to die

saw someone eating the porkbelly sandwich and it looked, as you would assume, delectable

also, i think it's important to note that the pretentiousness of it all is surprisingly low-- despite what you may think at first glance (stodginess turns into comfort once you just enjoy)

My first visit to LAMILL,  GREAT coffee and excellent service.  Second time, Great coffee, great meal and super dessert and good service.   This time, not so good.  I think it depends on what time you get there  and who serves you.  Today I arrived  around 2 pm on Sunday.   I  ordered a grilled cheese sandwich.  Asked for the fries instead of the chips.   When I got the sandwich, it came with chips.  Had to reorder fries.  By the time I got the fries, the sandwich was no longer hot.  Had to ask for ketchup for the fires.  Had to wait for that.    Basically, the server was out to lunch.  Never came back during my meal AT ALL to see how I was or if I wanted anything.  Each time I wanted something I had to relay it thru the young lady who was seating the guests.  Next time I will leave her the tip.  This mediocre review is for the service.  The food and coffee is excellent.

Maybe if I liked coffee more, I would rate this place higher?  Maybe if I liked to eat a lot of meat, I would rate this place higher?

    Or maybe not.

The decor is greek, but kitchy and even a little bit sterile.   Everything is overpriced.  And if you saw "Before the existance of LA Mill" pictures, you would be sad:  the place is a bit of an eyesore compared to what it used to be.  But I got to see Scott Speedman in there once (Ben from "Felicity"), so I guess that was nice.

Dear Jonathan Gold:    LA can do SO much better than this.  I think that by listing this place as one of the 99 most essential restaurants of LA, the bar as been set very low.  I hope we can do better next year.

Gorgeous coffee. Very overpriced! I'm from London and even in my little Covent Garden coffee shop I paid less for a coffee! However.. the vanilla latte is to die for, as are most of their special drinks. I have to say, after a 4 year spell in Portland, OR, Stumptown is better coffee, but Lamill are a close second  (from someone who grew up on Italian coffee this is a compliment). Very poncy. That's their downfall. They could do with being a bit more relaxed. Although the staff are lovely the weird poncy furniture is distracting.

As far as I'm concerned, the best cup (or carafe) of coffee in Los Angeles. The best in Chicago, for that matter as I'm well familiar with Intelligentsia for years now. The 'Japanese Pour' on their Colombian or Papa New Guinea roasts is poetry in motion followed by the most aromatic, flavorful cup of coffee I may ever drink.

    Their food is amazing too.

This is the best coffee place I have visited.  I was overwhelmed at first, because I am not knowledgeable about drips and coffee types, but the server was super nice and not condescending or snooty (which sometimes happens at a place like this).  The menu is easy to follow, and the coffee I ended up with was fantastic.  Also had breakfast, which was light, fresh, and delicious.  The homemade donuts and creme are terrific.

LAMILL is amazing. I've been a fan for years now and under my previous income was able to enjoy it regularly at the silver lake location and other java joints that served it, but now not so much. how sad. in any case, the coffee is really great, albiet pricey unless u go with a basic drip, and the accompanying food is just as swell, tho unfortunately pricier. :) its one of those luxuries you should absolutely indulge in if you have the disposable income to do so. but if you're like me, u'll have to pass on those extra desserts and coffees to save up for you next opening ceremony purchase ;)

By the time we hit Lamill, my husband and I were suffering from good-coffee withdrawal.  Yes, we had visited Starbucks along our journey down from Canada, but I admit, we're kind of coffee snobs and Starbucks just isn't what it used to be, and finding good coffee along the way had been a challenge.  So, it was a welcome relief to find a place that worships coffee like we do!  Our americanos were lovely and rich, and the crema!  For lunch, I had the grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich, which was SO yummy, while my husband had the goat cheese panini, which he pronounced to be excellent.

An extra bonus were the awesome faux-ostrich chairs - so comfy!

Overpriced underwhelming coffee (and small pours too).  Food was kinda pretty to look at, but again, overpriced and underwhelming.  This place is so out of place in this neighborhood.  I've renamed it the DOUCHEBAGERIA.  What's wrong with opening up a simple, affordable coffee joint? Note: Plenty of poseurs for your viewing (dis)pleasure.
