Played here on a recent weekend.  For a muni course, and an inexpensive one at that, it was in good shape and a lot of fun.  Fairly flat, with not a lot of water in play unless you are really off with your shots, but I did find lots of trees, left and right.  Had some of my worse lies ever.

Greens were is good shape.  The are in the process of reconstructing #3, a par 3 over water, so the temp green is short and not great, but not the worst temp green I have ever played.

It was slow, about 5 hours for a round - walking - but we were often pushing the group ahead of us, so it was not us being slow.

The practice green and chipping area are nice, but the range is a little small.  Overall, I liked it, and would play it again.

You should only book a tee time here if you have 7 plus hours to play 18 holes.  I had a tee time of 1pm and with a winter sunset time of 5pm, I thought I had time to play maybe 14-15 holes.  Nope, my foursome only could finish 9 holes.  The only thing this place cares about is collecting as many green fees as possible.  They were also backed up by about 30-40 minutes, so I didn't get to tee off until close to 2pm.  From there on, it was watching the 2 groups of fivesomes in front of us playing at a snail's pace.

This was by far the worst round of golf I've experienced in a long time.  Usually, I start with the pros then the cons, but for this course there were no pros...

    Cons:
    - FIVESOMES. There's something about fivesomes that seems to ruin the integrity of the game.  This course promotes fivesomes and will put pairs with groups of threes.  Horrible.
    - Mediocre green/fairway conditions.  I usually play a bright yellow ball that stands out in the fairway much better, but here I played white because all of their grass is yellow.
    - Overpriced driving range.  $6 for a small bucket, $10 for a large.

Note: If you do book a tee time here, go through Golf Zing to save a couple bucks.  But seriously, go elsewhere.

It's about that time of day where I get out of my jail cell aka my cubicle and transform into plaid shorts, a polo, and a baseball cap. It's when my coworkers give me sh!t for looking Zach Morris preppy status. Don't hate putos!

The last two time we've played at Lakewood C.C. it has been quite pleasant. The course itself isn't too challenging except for the long par 3s. Other than that, wide open fairways for the most part and if you play during the week, it's not as crowded. The last two times we tee'd off around 4ish and were able to complete either all 18 holes or came very close to it. The only times you may have really wait may be on the par 3s.

The greens are hit or miss, sometimes dry and slow. My gripe is with the players who do not fix their divots. Yep, YOU! You know who you are because I fix about 3-5 on every green. I guess lazy fools play here.

All in all, it's conveniently near my work so I am able to zip over right when I get off and it is one of those good practice courses. It may not be the best especially with Skylinks down the road but hey, it'll do. You can find some crazy online green fees/times for dirt cheap so I'm not going to complain when we pay that little to play.

I've never seen a Marshal or a drink girl on the course. There is a small food shack after the 2nd hole leading the 3rd or on the way back from the 9th to the 10th. There's a small driving range, two putting greens, and a chipping area available here as well. I warn you though there's always lots of kids around due to golf camps and programs here but if you're playing the course and not practicing, then you should be fine.

    Twilight cheap fees ftw!

Great local course, not as challenging as Skylinks or El Dorado.  It can get backed up at the long par 3's, but I try to play during the week either sunrise or twilight - both offer great prices and the course is usually wide open too.

Longer course, but fairly straight.  Only a few dog-legs and the greens are pretty flat.  Water comes into play on 2, 3, 6, 9, 10, and 12 I think.

Nice practice facilities too - good little driving range although it's not lit, 2 putting greens, and a large chipping area with sand.  The cafe makes some great food as well.  Check it out.

The golf course tore me a new one.  Playing morning golf is not for me and I have the +18 strokes to my handicap to prove.  Nevertheless, I'm giving it 4 stars despite the long ass time it takes to finish a round.  Why?

The clubhouse is actually a good place to grab some lunch.  The sandwiches are huge, meaty, juicy and buttery...just like my love handles.

And even if you don't play golf or your religious beliefs prevent you from enjoying sandwiches, come for the CHILI N CHEESE TATER fucking TOTS.  They're better than you can ever imagine.

The only reason why I gave the second star is because I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course and the amount of wildlife that can be found about a block from the Long Beach airport.

Let's keep this short and sweet since you can read what the course/club is like in the other reviews.

My buddy and I were excited to play this course since it was our first time there.  We were put in a fivesome that was one of two groups sandwiched between tournaments.  Perhaps it was just bad luck.  In any case, we got to the TWELFTH hole and were FOURTH up.  Yeah, you read that right.  We basically waited over half an hour (it's a par 3) at that hole.  Since the 12th green is by the 18th tee, we skipped on over, played the 18th, and left early.

Since we started roughly on time, I can only surmise that the course marshals were asleep on the job.  In any case, I always try to get my $'s worth and can't remember the last time I left a course early.  My estimation for how long it would've taken to complete the round had we stayed: Saturday.

Since this is the course I grew up on it's a little tough to give a bad review so it gets 4 stars just on the nostalgia factor alone.  However, the pace of play can be brutal Thursday-Sunday.  I played it at twilight probably five time this summer and two of those rounds were enough to piss anyone off.  The last round we made the turn in 3 hours!  Yeah that's right, 3 hours.  The course itself has been in pretty good shape though.  Every green except the 2nd is pretty good but some of the fairways are a little lean.  All in all it's a fun track but most of you need to stay away and go somewhere else.....

Course: par 72, wide, long enough (~6700 yards from blues) particularly the par 3s, water comes into play on several holes, bunkers all over.  i would say overall maintenance is a solid 7.5/10 which is not bad given the foot traffic course endures. not much to complain about.

Pace of play usually averages about 5 to 5.5 hours the 3 times I've played here on the weekend.

3 stars is justified primarily because of ***cheap*** weekend prices ($50 to ride).  Would be 4 stars if rounds were quicker which I never expect because of the inescapable baby boomer asian population in Southern California.

    *** El Dorado = $64, Skylinks = $72, Big Rec = $60, Mile Square = $73

Awesomely cheap super twilight rate... It's 16 bucks to play and if you got  coupon it's free cart rental. Course was wide open and I was able to get 15 holes in 3 hours despite course's slow reputation. Must have been my lucky day.

Well, this is my neighborhood course. It's not the best, but it's a lot of fun! Can be over crowded during the weekend. Best time is twilight during the weekdays. Service is decent, and has a great bar. Can use an upgrade for the driving range.
This beautiful, championship layout combines 11 acres of water and lakes to create a very scenic course. It features challenging par 3's, an abundance of new sand bunkers, poa greens, bermuda grass on tees and fairways

Ever known a girl who everyone said was really pretty, nice, sweet and a perfect match for you. It seems like this one girl has the best reputation and everyone seems to like her and visit her a lot. But when you go out with her she's not that attractive, she does not keep herself in good shape and she has the worst attitude in the world.

No we're not talking about dating ghetto girls, we're talking about Lakewood Golf Course. For some reason, this place has been considered the best golf course in Long Beach. Fellow players hold this place in high regard, they think this course is better looking, a better challenge and funner to play than other courses in Long Beach.

Everytime I play here, whoever is the person working at the front desk is a complete tool, douchebag. Yeah, I understand you got to fill in a lot of tee times and people are on you trying to get on the course. But dude, don't take it out on the customers, The course is not even that great, yeah it used to be a country club...blah, blah...so is Recreation Park, and that course is much better to play. Greens and fairways were not in good conditions and they weren't cut well. Felt like I was playing in the rough though in the middle of the fairway.

The course plays really long....and I mean time. This course gets a lot of play from the retirement crowd and players new to the game. Listen, if you want to sharpen your game, play from closer tees. It's hard to watch players wanting to play from the back tees. Those are tournament tees for 3 handicaps or lower. A way overrated golf course.

I liked the course, however I didnt like the 61/2 hrs it took to play this course.  Granted it was memorial day weekend, but damn, they WAY overbooked the course.

Our tee time was scheduled for 12:36, but the starter didnt get us out till 1:30, and on top of that they stuck us in a 5some.  There was a wait at every hole, so it was impossible to get in a groove.

The course itself was in good condition, the fairways are pretty wide open, and fairly forgiving, whis is good because the greens are EXTREMELY fast and challenging.

The price is right, the conditions are good, and it has nice practice facilities.  I'd actually give this place 4 stars if it wasnt so slammed.  I'll give it the benefit of the doubt because it was a holiday weekend, but a near 7 hour golf day takes it down 2 stars on this review.  I'll update my review when I play it again...

This course use to be my home course. Very long in distance and hard to reach par 3's. Course is kept up nicely these days since American Golf took over management. One thing they need to work on is time issue, this place can get really slow weekday or weekend 5.5 hours to 6.5 hour rounds.

When play is going smoothly this place is fun to play...

I played this course soooo many times that its not even funny. Back when i was a Junior I played the course for only $5. Now its more like $20+ but its okay cause after work I like to go and get 9 holes in. (only in the Summer) I bring some tall cans and some of my friends and we play for $$$. If you wanna play this course with me for some $$$ let me know. Shoot me a message and well play.

Fun course here.  Seems in better shape than the neighboring courses at this time.  Greens are pretty fast and pin placements are tough, lots of downhill putting that goes to the bottom of the green.  Good par 3's out there, over water and some about 200 yrds.  No real complaints about this place today, as pace was decent as well.  5th out on Sunday morning, and finished just over 4 1/2 hours.  If my game was on, I'd probably like it even more.

Lakewood Country Club is generally a fun course to play, although there aren't too many elevation changes, if any. This course used to be my high school's home golf course (which was at least 5 years ago). I was curious as to whether Lakewood had changed since then when I recently went for a round of 18 holes. Nothing much has changed. The greens are still quite fast, and the condition of the course is average. Out of the previous reviewers, Greg probably has the best description of the course.
