I come here for 4 reasons:

    1. Target
    2. Macy's
    3. Costco
    4. Forever 21

I pretty much come here when I need to, but it IS a little ghetto. If you've got an issue with ghetto - then go to a different mall.. haha..

I've never had any problems here whatsoever though, so I really can't complain much.

If I'm looking for a better quality shopping experience, then I'll definitely head somewhere else - but this place is always my spot when I know what I'm looking for!

This mall really went downhill after the mid-1990's. I remember coming here as a kid when there used to be a Montgomery Ward in the South corner of the store. Back then, this place used to be happening, with the mall packed every weekends. The demographics back then was middle-class Whites, Asians and a few Hispanics; and stores were catering to this demographics.

Fast-forwarded to 2011, this mall changed demographically, and economically. Once a mall for mid-priced stores, has become a bastion of low-priced goods and chain stores. Costco, Target, and now a Nordstorm's rack. In addition, the consumer based changed a lot. Now there are packs of teenagers ditching school, with their pants hanging down below their asses; low-income Blacks from Long Beach, Compton and Watts, and hoodrats.

I foresee a change in the near future: the mall will have to undergo a dramatic change and install a state of the art security system or will have to shut down.

There are only two things I can say about the Lakewood Mall.

My first is... Brittany P and I pick up the Hollywood Bowl shuttle in the parking lot here as to not have to deal with the abject cluster fuck that is the parking up at the actual venue!

My second is... By reviewing Lakewood Mall it will finally be removed from my suggested reviews section on yelp's welcome page!

So bon voyage Lakewood Mall.  I hope to never lay foot or eye on your interior again.

Starting to resemble the mall that was in downtown Long Beach....Went on a Saturday and did not seem very crowded either like it was years ago.

Lot's of generic stores and  names you have never heard of.  Outdated mall that did not keep up.

Outside stores seem to be good though.  Just don't go inside the mall!

Huge shopping mall with more than five major stores anchoring the center. My very fist time coming here. They have some decent brand names stores. Plenty of dining choices from fast-food and good restaurants. Like the layout of this shopping area with plenty of parking. You can park anywhere to the closest stores you wanna go to. Easy access to get in and out to.

Time to shut it down.  This mall is tired and moving back into the ghetto direction.  For a while there, they weren't looking so bad, but now?  Ehh, crowded on the weekends and cramped inside feel.  Uninteresting stores and not worth the effort.

What is the main draw to a mall?  Ability to stroll and checkout stores and people watch.  It's all about the environment.  This place is lacking in all areas.

I like shopping here during off peak hours. I like to take my time and visit stores I've never visited. It can get crowded, and a lot of teens come here. If anything I can just go to all the outside department stores. The stores that are not entered by mall only. Target,Costco, etc. Even Best Buy is in the same lot. Nice variety of stores.

I grew up going to this mall when McDonalds used to have its own location inside the mall. Good times! Instead, they added a second floor provided that you go up the escalator/elevator/stairs to enter the food court. McDonalds is still sold upstairs, but it will never compare from its original location downstairs.

Aside from food, they have their usual department stores to name a few: Macys, Victoria Secrets, Hollister, Vans and many more. Then there are  those brands that are soon reaching its final days due to competition ... poor JcPenny! Luckily the city built a Target and Forever 21 inside the mall making it convenient for customers and even better with a Costco waiting outside.

This mall is only one floor with a limited amount of popular brand name stores. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for and what store to find it in, then this mall will then have some value to you. If you are looking for a place to spend with that special someone, a great shopping experience, or somewhere like any other then you must NOT be at Lakewood Mall. Lakewood Mall will forever be a pit-stop for some passerby, which that too is not a pleasant experience. I remember one incident when I used the two stall bathroom downstairs, which reek due to the last visitors not flushing the toilet. The best part would have to be the person that enjoyed her shaving experience leaving pubic hairs around the sink. So with that said, be warned that this mall is not that clean nor great for someone with high expectations for a mall.

This review is for 07/03/2011. After being at Norwalk's Costco, my friend and I were trying to buy more time before the Angels vs Dodgers Game in Anaheim. My friend found the Elephant Bar that we would have the option of dining before or after the baseball game. Onwards we go to Lakewood Center Mall.

If you have been to Lakewood Center Mall, its a bigger and better version of Panorama Mall. My friend and I were just walking through the mall and walked to every store of interest from baseball caps to just hanging around at the next door Costco. Yeah, we went to the Costco again, but I'll write the review right after this.

It is really hard to write a review for this place since we were just walking and spending a lot of time just walking around and buying time. Plus, I did forget what was going on with a busy day. I think my friend and I walked around the mall as many as three to four times from the outside and interior searching for nothing. After all that walking, we got hungry and decided to go to Costco next door (Review right after this one).

THE PEOPLE THAT RUN THIS MALL HAVE TO BE SOME OF THE STUPIDEST PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF SUCH AN OPERATION AND I'LL EXPLAIN WHY. I've camped out here twice for Air Jordans and both times the mall set a specific time that we can start lining up. Both times were so hectic that I thought I was gonna get shanked.

The first time I camped out here, the mall said we could start camping at 11pm. When I got to the parking lot across from the mall (at Target) around 10:00pm, there were already about 20 people in the Target parking lot and every time someone would try to pull up to the mall's parking lot, security would kick them off.

By the time 10:35 came, everyone was ready to kill each other in order to get in line at the mall. Probably over 50 cars were there lined up, some revving their engines, and people were scrambling on foot. Around 10:40 the parking lot exploded and multiple car crashes occurred. I was on foot and almost got run over.

People were hopping over the gate and shoving each other to get into the line and security made everyone get out of line and stand on the curb across the street multiple times just so they could all bum rush each other again 3 minutes later.

A similar situation happened the second time I camped out here (last Saturday) because the mall had the same policy, except this time they set the time for 4am.

They need to let people line up as early as they want so no one has to run and push to get in line. The way they're running it promotes violence.

This is supposed to be the 17th largest mall in the country? Sporting 2.1 million square feet, the Lakewood Center Mall certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

I'd like to know how it is that the nearby Los Cerritos Center mall has 322 stores and 5 anchors fit into 1.3 million square feet, yet Lakewood Center only has 250 stores and 4 anchors fit into a building with almost twice the space.

Lakewood Center is relatively unclean but there are a few good stores within those dirty gates. I like that there is a Hollister located here (but no Abercrombie & Fitch?! why'd they get rid of it...), Vans, Forever 21, Panera Bread (personal favorite), and the end all be all that is Target.

Overall, an okay mall. If you're really up for some serious shopping, though, check out Los Cerritos Center a few miles away. This one is convenient to me because it's relatively close to my house. But I'd definitely pick Cerritos over Lakewood.

It's not the worst mall I've been to, but at the same time, it's not the best. The good thing about the place is that it's a "One stop" shop place with a TARGET inside it. It's also clean and the people are friendly. The thing that I didn't like is the lack of selection of stores like a typical mall would have.

If you want to visit an amazing mall, check out the Los Cerritos Center mall. You will not be disappointed!

Not the greatest mall but it has the major stores. It's more of the quality and presentation of this mall that makes it not so hot on my list. I would prefer Cerritos but Lakewood is a lot closer. They also recently added to the area with a Costco and Nordstrom's Rack to increase the appeal. The mall can be filled with high schoolers just hanging out. Just your average mall.

It's not bad. So in my book it's A-OK.  So many stores and Nordstrom's Rack is now open.

Cosco is also here.  It's a perfect one stop shop when you have to stop and get dinner.

Feeling guilty for pigging out on the free samples or from the food court well then you can work it off at 24HR fitness.

I suppose the surrounding stores is what makes this place.  I'm not necessarily a fan but it works.

I'll be back, but I think I would rather wait after the holidays.

Oh Lakewood Center Mall where did you go wrong!! You tryed so hard to be the hip and upcoming mall but somewhere someone has failed in the mass replanning of you!!
Yes, you do have a nordstroms rack (eh)
Yes, you do have a  Target (eepies im scared of going in there after slipping and landing on my bottom)
Yes, you do have a Panera that not only myself and friends have studyed before class but also had many yummi lunch there!!
Yes, you do have a brand new Costco (hello hot dog and soda lunch!)
Yes, you do have a forever 21 (which is my favorite one to date)

But why o why do you attract such creepers and weirdos!! I cant get thru the mall without having some sales person bugging me to try this or that, have some poor lost kid walk into me only moments later be snatched up by their family member.
I do have a good chuckle at the mall security racing thru on their segways..
Trying to be positive about this place is like trying to force a smile on a really bad date!! All i can say is if you do have to go here make sure you bring someone with you or get in and out as fast as you can during day light hours!!

    YIKES!

So I have been to it's surroundings such as Target, Costco, Chevron, Mimi's cafe, the 24 hour so I figured hmmm I'll come kill some time here for lunch not realizing I might get killed myself!

This place is NOT a mall...it's more of a indoor swap meet! Who ever baptized this place and gave it a a "Mall" name clearly doesn't have a clue

Look I can understand if this "mall" was in the middle of a town or somewhere in 909 ok cool I get it...but it's not so get a clue and get this place in order!

It has potential if you take out half the stores that are there and don't let anyone from the raider nation walk-in!

I've known this mall for many years since living in the LBC. It's grown over the years, changes, new stores, shop re-locations, closers and mall-rats alike and i used to work here.

I always think this mall have lots of shoe stores and jewelry stores so if you need gifts for either this is the mall to go to, other than that if you need to find gifts for the grannys there is a jc-penny's here.

For the youngsters this mall is your one-stop shop for urban-wear!

For the grown-men out there that want to dress like youngsters this mall is also your one-stop shop for urban-wear and kicks!

    For the ladies- forever 21!

    For me Macy's!

This mall is made for the urban area but it is clean/maintained, they have a decent food court, a play area for the kids, a target and a costco for your convenience.

One of the most common malls in LA County. The stores are so so, I'd prefer Cerritos mall any day, big change in demographics as you will see what I mean If you Visit both and compare. Security like to harass groups of teens so don't come in huge droves, the parking lot is a mad house! Park far back if you don't want to find door dings after a days shopping. The theater is over filled with a loud outspoken type of individuals. If you want to grab a quick shirt not outfit, gift of shoes and don't mind a parking hunt Lakewood is your mall.

    Stop the hating people!!

Look I know its not a  fancy high end mall with nice deparment stores or contemporary clothing stores like J Crew, Banana Republic and others.

But still, the lakewood mall is not a bad place. They have a great JC Penny with great deals, good restaurants in the parking lot (California Pizza Kitchen, Marios Eastside Italian and others)...and they have a Macy's and a Gap!

This isn't a high end mall or a place you seek out, but for the locals of Lakewood this mall has come a long way. It was supremely ghetto years ago and its changing for the better!

This mall is a place for local teenagers to hang out and chill at the food court, but not a place you seek for shopping!

I recommend you come here looking for good deals at their JC Penny, its one of the best JC Penny stores in the LA/OC area!

I swear. I'm like a battered spouse with Lakewood Mall. Every time I go back I think, "It's gonna be better this time. It must have been something I did. It can't be that bad." I'm here to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, it IS that bad.

Very few, if any, of the stores are properly stocked or shoppable (as they call it in the retail biz). Even the Target here sucks...that's sinking pretty low.

...So I was about to give this mall two stars, then I was sitting here staring at my screen for five minutes trying to think of any redeeming qualities this mall has...I've got none. Oh wait! They've got a Panera. I do love me some Panera, good thing I can enter through the outside and don't actually have to go through the mall to get there.

Oh, and I know it's the American way to be curious and want to see things for oneself...but believe me when I say, for the love of god, please don't ever, ever, EVER use the bathrooms at the Lakewood Mall. Just don't do it. I shudder just thinking about it.

That's it, Lakewood Mall...I'm leaving you for good this time!

    "Uh.. no? No. Sorry."

"Please? Come on, PLEASE?!" Pause. "B****!"

Such was the scene between a woman trying to sell hair straightening irons from a kiosk and two women just trying to go about their business.

Every time I have to go down the hall that spans from the Costco to the mall's core, it's having to duck through a gauntlet of these people. And some of them really just don't take no for an answer.

No, this mall is not the best, but it is comfortable. It has everything I need. It is not fancy (see my Cerritos mall post) , but it does have some " sort-of higher end" stores. Parking is alright. The clientele here is definitely younger and kind of "ghetto". Lots of "urban wear" and discount clothing stores. Go to Panera Bread or Costco for lunch instead of eating at the food court. Tons of shops for Dodger and Raider gear, which I like. If you are a snob or looking for designer clothes, go to Del Amo, South Coast, or Fashion Island... don't come here. If you are a regular Joe looking for regular clothes...this place is for you... and me.

When it comes to "practical" malls like Manhattan Village, I typically hate them. I like to think of this as my "fun" practical mall--perhaps it is the Target? It's just convenient. If I was a mom or a housewife, I would love it here for the convenience.

It's missing a lot of stores, especially more popular brand-ish ones, but that's okay. I think this mall attempts to remain "affordable". Sometimes though, I feel like the stores in here resemble those of Huntington Park...and you can take that however you want. If I need an outfit, it's unlikely that I will excitedly choose to search for it right here. I like it, it's cheap, but it lacks in options. It has a Nordstrom Rack and chain-type places to eat. Chipotle and the bionico place are the healthiest things to eat! I need more food options. I think it's good if you live in the neighborhood and can rely on this mall, but I definitely wouldn't plan a day to spend right here. I like their Macy's...but it can get kind of sloppy. I really like their Disney Store, but it seems empty.  I hate the food court that still presses you for cash and by GOD!!! McDonald's here charges you an atm fee--are you effing kidding me????? I like the chinese food place here. They have horchata :) I like the kid's play area, but it's kind of dirty if you care about your kids being dirty. The guy that works at Journey's is rude and feels entitled to make rude jokes. The Sbarro looks like a restaurant which is just kind of funny to me. The Windsor here is a hot mess in the back, and this is home of the biggest Forever21 that I've ever been in, if you're into that thing. I like it here because of the Macy's, and I'm also very amused by the fact that I can walk into Target or out into Chipotle. I love the Hallmark here, seriously. I kinda love the Papaya store too. The Aldo is okay, but crowded.

This place is nothing to write home about...in fact, it's kind of dead.

I still have some love for the Lakewood Mall. It's no big secret our dear old Lakewood Mall seen better days.

One of those better days was when I went there the other day. Here's a detailed account of what happened.

3:00 pm -  arrive at the doors dressed like a heavy metal version of Han Solo.

3:01 - I stand in position, the lights dim and the spotlight shines on me.

3:01:10 - continue standing and looking cool, I adjust my expensive sunglasses. Everyone stares silently and is in complete awe.

3:01:20 - Eye of the Tiger blasts through the loud speakers. The spotlight follows as I begin to stride in sync with the song's sweet ass riff.

3:02:05 - I continue to strut along with the music as the lights fade in to reveal the crowd following me.

3:03:01 -  The crowd is now strutting in sync behind me. People are joining in from everywhere.

3:03:15 - The sweetest parade ever passes by Lorenzo Lamas who is hanging out with Corey Feldman. Corey approves and tips his fedora. Lorenzo is so fucking surprised, that he spills his Icee all over his leather vest.

3:04:00 - The music stops and Kool Moe Dee jumps out of Taco Bell and rips into his smash hit "How ya Like me Now". Everybody busts into the biggest Electric Slide ever.

3:04:06 The guy at Sbarro's is surprised and the pizza dough lands on his head.

5:07:09 -the music stops and I call for my horse - Lazersnort.

5:09:00 a vortex opens from thin air and my trusty steed emerges.  I hop on and Lazersnort rears up. We ride through the mall and the crowd roars like a lion

    5:11:48 I give a thumbs up....and freeze frame.

Speaking from someone who travels often, I don't see what all the negative reviews are all about. Granted I went early in the day but one's opinion of anything will be different in the day than it is at night.

Everything I wanted was outside the mall like the dollar bookstore,Boston Market, and Big Lots but I did walk through the mall. The few stores I browsed I was greeted in and I was pleased to see Bakers which is almost nonexistent in other states. The Forever 21 was the biggest I've been in and I think is even bigger than the one in the mall of America and this vendor gave me a sample which surprisingly didn't try and sell me something.

Between the mall and the stores surrounding it on the outside, you really don't have to go anywhere else. I even went into the Super Target which was spacious and attached to the mall.

As far as the safety of the mall, it is not on my top 5 list of malls that I felt unsafe. I'd definitely go back even with the 40 minute bus ride.

When people say this mall is "ghetto,"  what they mean is that there are a lot of black teenagers who are
    1. wearing pants hanging off the ass
    2. shouting into their cell phones
    3. yelling at their kids
    4. holla ing at hoochies walking by
    5. looking your gf up and down
    6. leaving a bunch of trash at tables in the food court
    7. being really loud everywhere

If you don't mind all this, then this place is a decent mall.  Actually, I kind of like this mall.  It's bigger than Cerritos Mall, the food is a little better and I think the Macy's there has a better selection than the Cerritos one.

People only look at how ghetto the people are, but actually the stores are good. I just go there to get what I want really quick and I'm out of there within 1 hour.

If you want a mall where you can take a casual walk with friends or family, then Cerritos is a lot better.  If you want a place to get better selection of stuff, then this one is a little better.

EDIT: You know what, the stores are not that much better and not worth it, just go to Cerritos Mall instead.

Everything about this mall is awful. The crowd, the ambiance, the stores... I really hate going here. It just seems so depressing.

I would definitely avoid coming on a weekend or Friday night. All the kids who still think the mall is a cool place to hang out will be here. Also, try to dress as crappy as possible. If you are a moderately attractive woman wearing moderately attractive clothes, you WILL be harassed by men who think it's appropriate to make comments about you and your appearance.

Food court is the usual fast food junk. It always seems to be the most crowded area of the entire mall.

Most of the stores are crappy and seem to always be empty.

I only come here for the Forever 21 or Ziba which are decent. Luckily they're both located near exits so I don't have to actually go inside the mall.
