Ok, so ive never had dim sum or been to chinatown for that matter, but when you date an asian girl you get to do these kind of cool things..
----------
FOOD: You can get some other things, but my girl wanted to get me some dim sum, so thats what we got. The vegetarian choices are kind of sporadic, but you can find them. We had to ask a bunch of times for meatless stuff and still got some meat.
Otherwise it was pretty tasty. mmm.
DECOR: Its a chinese restaurant style. Pretty nice.
SERVICE: Well you really dont have one person, you have a bunch with carts with food on them, but they were friendly. One drawback however is that they mark the slip entirely in chinese. So if youre a bean counter and dont know chinese, youre going to be out of luck.
----------
WOULD I GO BACK? Sure would, but not without my girl. She knows what to get and what not. I just know good food when I eat it..

RIP, Lakeside we miss the delicious dim sum and friendly staff. What compares?

Family run restaurant with super fresh a la carte dimsum and a more Chinese than non-Chinese clientele. I like the Cantonese fried chow fun noodles with beef, most of the dim sum, and the baby bok choy w/ garlic. Great value, zero ambience. Rather, the ambience is functional rather than decorative. Bustling during lunchtime and often at dinner. Like most Asian restaurants, they welcome kids. Take a date who appreciates great food, not fancy lighting.
They'll also do takeout orders. And I think they're closed on Thursdays. Or it might be Tuesdays.

GENERAL TSO'S CHICKEN.
CLOSES AT 8.
AUTHENTIC.
HOLE IN THE WALL.
Best General Tso's chicken I've ever had. This place also does good dim sum. The service was pretty good, quite attentive and friendly. It is certainly a hole in the wall, but when you're doing Chinese food I think that's the way it should be. They close pretty early (8pm) but were nice enough to let us in at 7:59. Price is comparable to other eateries in China Town, but I believe the quality is higher. Definitely recommend.

Unfortunatly closed in January 2008 due to retierment of the owners. We will remember this place with gratitude for wonderful quality of the food and warm attitude to the customers.

EDIT: Lakeside has CLOSED. If anyone has any recommendations for dim sum or know of any restaurants that do general tso's half as good as Lakeside, please please PLEASE contact me!
Can't beat this place for great dim sum at an even greater price. The food is prepared fresh and quick. Service is very friendly. Stuffed eggplant, baby bok choy in garlic and squid satay are some of my favorites. Their take on general tso's is the best I've ever experienced. And they have the pencil clock I had as a kid.
A fantastic dim sum 'hole in the wall'!!!
My boyfriend and I Had been coming here on a weekly basis for years before we moved to California. It's extremely well priced and the food is delicious. We've tried many other dim sum places in the city and none of them were as fresh as Lakeside...
Their congee (rice porridge) is fantastic as is their crispy taro triangle. Personally, I cut up my taro and put it into the congee and devour a couple bowls in minutes. Also, their steamed vegetable dumpling (which has shrimp in it - beware) is VERY tasty...I highly recommend their congee as it's the best I've ever tasted and definitely think every dim sum fan should give this place a try!
Totally a Hole in the Wall serving cheap cantonese dishes for the locals. What's interesting about this place is you can order fresh dim sum dishes (no carts), most being around $1.80 per dish. Although, the quality isn't as good as the more popular dim sum places in Philly, such as Ocean Harbor or Joy Tsin Lau. Service is nice but decor is rather lackluster and depressing.
