Went to Lakeside Cafe last night after SF Symphony. Wanted someplace quiet with good food. As always, Lakeside Cafe fits that bill.
We got there shortly after 7pm but they honored the 7pm cutoff for early bird dinners. For $15 I got a rather large salad, salmon entree with starch and fresh veggies as well as a beverage.
Rumors fly about this place being for Senior Citizens. Well, I'm one who thinks he's only 50 and the place suits me fine. I noticed many diners who looked like they were in their 20's. I would take my family, including 10 year old grandson here.
Parking is easy on Ocean Avenue and we waited about 30 seconds to be seated. Food came shortly but we were never rushed. Leisurely dinner lasted about 1 hour.
The more popular, but way more noisy, large and parking deficient Boulevard Cafe in Daly City is supposedly owned by the same family (?), but I'd go to Boulevard if I had a very large party who likes to drink and make noise and let a valet park my car.
We don't eat many sweets, but if we did, the desserts featured as you walk in (circular, glass enclosed pastry display) are SO tempting. Reminds me of old world diners in New Jersey.
I can understand why people may think that this place is just for senior citizens, but honestly, who in their right mind who pass up such warm and delicious comfort food at reasonable prices? Who cares if that means you have to eat dinner at 5pm for the early bird special. It is worth it!
My family has been coming to this place for ages (it doesnt help that seriously there aren't many great places close to my grandma's house in Daly City). We pretty much always end up eating here when we need something homey and well-cooked (no crack at the denture crowd...really, I mean cooked really well, like Mom used to make it).
The service is friendly, the food is good, so I'll keep coming back here for years to come.
Come on folks, who thinks this place is just for the senior citizens? I don't even know what that means. Have you seen Lakeside's burgers? Hot, meaty and tasty -d@mn come here baby you can be my gf!!
This place grinds their own beef in-house using 100% Black Angus Chuck to create their fantastic 1/2 lb burger. When I saw that on the menu, I knew I wouldn't be able to resist.
I said "I'd like your Hamburger California please" ($9.95). She said "How would you like that cooked?" Yeah baby, you know I love it when you me ask how I want my meat - 1st sign of a good burger joint! - "Medium rare, baby"
Lakeside's burgers are straight up good. A hot juicy well seasoned beef patty topped with mushrooms and artichoke hearts and smothered with gooey melted jack cheese. By the time I added the tomatoes and lettuce, which came on the side, I had a burger that was way too big to eat gracefully.
Linda C. ordered the Warm Spinach Salad with Tenderloin of Chicken, $11.95. I'm not a big salad eater and the thought of warm spinach did not appeal to me but just one bite changed my whole perception. Warm fresh spinach with chunks of grilled chicken mixed in and layered on top of cantaloupe pieces was actually very good.
I always love finding places with surprisingly good burgers, Lakeside is one of those. So, for you burger aficionados come give it a try and let me know what you think.
Next time? Patty Melt.
Ate lunch here yesterday and left uderwhelmed....
I read in a previous review that this place is owned by the same people that own the Boulevard which is suprising because the boulevard is much better.
The food was good- we had seafood pasta, hamburger and polenta.
The service was not- they tried to take our order literally less than a minute after seating, the server was trying to take the menu out of my hands while I was still reading it and she fired all of our food at the same time so appetizer came with meal...
As indicated in other reviews this is mostly an older crowd but this whole area seems to have a ratio of elderly people.
I thought a little overpriced for diner food. $50 for lunch for two.
If it was suggested I go there again I'd agree but otherwise I'd skip it.
Last night was probably my 5th visit to Lakeside Cafe. Two words: comfort food (count as one word) and consistency. I've had the lamb, the pot roast, chicken piccata and don't remember the others, but I do remember that the food has always been as ordered, with very little waiting, and served hot. The service has always been good, even last night when there was a birthday party of 12 in our server's station. I agree that it's not a place that would impress a date, but if you're looking for some good old-fashioned comfort food on a chilly foggy evening, the $14.95 early-bird (before 7:00pm) special is just the ticket.
Sure, this place is filled with the senior set, but think about it. Would they be coming back here if the food wreaked havoc with their bowel system? So the elderly Aunties take me out to lunch at this quaint little place and I have to say, gray hair aside, the food was pretty darned good. One Auntie had a hearty corned beef sandwich, I had the BLT with smoked bacon, and the Alzheimer's Auntie had the delicious looking hamburger. Too bad she eats everything separately (ie, lettuce first, then just the tomatoes, then the buns, etc...) but, at least she still feeds herself. We topped it off with some to-die-for spumoni. They have one of those fabulous spinning dessert cases when you walk in with cream pies, cheesecakes, apple pies, etc....We'll be back.
This is a cafe for the...mature in age...and you can see the cleanliness and sterility of the cafe. It's just about the cleanest cafe I know! The service is friendly and the prices are pretty much slightly expensive.
I came for breakfast and they have a breakfast special menu with prices at $5.95. I got the French Toast, which consist of two slices of French Toast and bacon. A little steep on the price, but it was good regardless. The bacon wasn't thick, but it was wide and crispy! The French Toast was dense and soft.
If you ask me, the portions weren't that great for the price despite the good quality. I like Lakeside Cafe, but frankly speaking, there are better breakfast spots like Stack's in Burlingame.
This is a good place for a family get together. I love the room in the back- great for parties =]
I also am a fan of their dinner salads and cheese burgers. The environment is very relaxing and the food is pretty good.
I'd like to give them 3.5 stars. We were taking my parents to Olive Garden because someone gave us gift cards, but we didn't want to wait 30 minutes so opted for Lakeside Cafe instead. I'm so glad we did!
Dad had the pepper steak, which made him very happy. Mom had lamb chops, which were also very good (yes, I still steal food from my parents' plates). Hubby was starving and had the grilled tiger prawns appetizer, wedge salad, and spaghetti and meatballs. Tiger prawns were a bit overcooked, but delicious and I really liked the little salad that accompanied them. I don't do blue cheese, so didn't taste the wedge salad--it's an unusual version with romaine instead of iceberg and a drizzle of balsamic along with the blue cheese dressing; hubby said it was delicious. Spaghetti and meatballs were fine, though nothing remarkable. I had the fried calamari, which were ok (not the best, but not bad)--huge portion; I could've done with 1/2 the amount, even though sharing with the family. I also had an absolutely wonderful macaroni and cheese--totally loaded with fat, but oh so good.
As others have said, this is not a place to go with a date or someone you want to impress, nor is it gourmet dining, but it's a nice family restaurant that is unpretentious and delivers pretty good value. Our dinner for 4 as described above, plus a soda and 2 glasses of wine came out to $112 before tip.
Clean, classy looking Breakfast joint but not my favorite.. I like it when my breakfast spot is a little cheaper and if I have to get a more run down place to get the prices I am looking for, then I will..
But that's just me so do not let me convince you not to come here. But if I am in this area, which is rare, and it's breakfast time, I might be back...
So a couple of variables have to fall just right....
This is a good place to take your grandparents or if you live in the neighborhood, it's a great place to have a unpretenious family dinner. It's the type of place that would be extremely intimidating to go to if you're younger than 50 and you're not with your family, but don't let that scare you away.
They have pretty reasonable priced early-bird dinners which I've never managed to make, but if hubby and I go, we would be one of the youngest parties there - trust me, we're not that young. Anyway, the place clears out around 8:30 - 9:00. Overall, the food is solid and you know exactly what to expect. Their specialty is rack of lamb. Tonight I had a green pepper steak which was one of the most tender steaks I've had in awhile. I think I'm now addicted to it.
I mentioned in my last review that I am afraid of San Francisco. I don't know if that's totally correct. I'm not afraid that SF will crawl over the bridge one night and bite my toes off one by one as I sleep, or that SF will eat my cat, or that SF will drug me in a bar and take me back to its house and tie me to a water pipe in the basement and flay me while forcing me to watch reruns of Full House.
No, no, no. I am NOT afraid! It would be more accurate to say that SF makes me extremely anxious. When I drive myself there, I get lost and I cry. If I stay there for more than a few hours, I become disoriented and cranky. I can't deal.
So, getting to the point! This is my 100th review, and it is my first review of something that is actually in San Francisco, where Yelp was born. I only go to San Francisco to visit my grandparents or to see museums. I decided to review one of the restaurants I go to with my grandparents.
The Lakeside Cafe is very charming. I have only had lunch and breakfast there, so this review is for lunch and breakfast. The people working there are always friendly and greet everyone. Even when it has been busy, we haven't had to wait long. It is cozy inside. I enjoy the food, but not overly. I like to get either the chicken apple sausage omelet or the rueben, both of which are just fine but not amazing. I would never go here without my grandparents. They really love this place. I could take it or leave it. My grandfather likes the Eggs Benedict and my step grandmother likes Joe's Special (ground beef in scrambled eggs). Parking is usually available nearby, but you might have to walk a block or two. If you go there with old people like I do or if your friends are lazy, just drop them off in front before you park.
Yay for my first SF review!
You know those Sunday mornings, when you wake up and wait for your loved one to wake up too, and while you do, you dream of what you want to have for breakfast? Today was such a day.
I woke up and was dreaming of a plate full of pancakes, syrup, scrambled eggs and sausages, but most places I go to (or USED to go to...like John's crap heap beach cafe on Sloat--what a JOKE!) serve you the eggs and bacon OR the pancakes, unless you add sides, you have to make a decision.
So, we had a bad experience with a nearly empty John's crrap-shack on Sloat, and them not wanting to seat a party of TWO at one of their 3, 4 or 6 capacity booths (suck me, Johns) and so we headed for this place, having passed it once and thought it might be worth a try.
OMG...at 10 o'clock on a Sunday, we didn't have to wait to be sat, and they took us right to a 4 person booth, with no problems.
The lakeside cafe breakfast was two pancakes, light and fluffy, served with butter and syrup on the side (usually don't most places gob the butter on for you, assuming you want it?) two eggs, any style, and either bacon or sausage...it was PERFECTION.
I have read other reviews (no doubt written by little hipsters wanting to make the scene and be seen, while they hide behind big black sunglasses and gaze in vapid silence at their iphone) that this place has some issues with decor, or the clientelle being older.
I'll tell you what, I hate to contradict this, because then it's going to be filled with these little 20 something a--holes.
I had an awesome, QUIET breakfast (didn't see more than one elderly couple there) and there were no screaming kids, no mommies trying to regain control of the rugrats...it was a great breakfast.
I'll for sure be back. I wish there were more places where the staff were as courteous, attentive, and the food was as cheap and GOOD!
I grew up in the neighborhood and have been going to this place for years -- I'm definitely a fan. I'm getting the impression from other reviews, though, that you have to know what to order. For brunch, the corned beef hash is incredible. It's chopped up pretty well, which I really like. For lunch or dinner it's all about the burgers. No gimmicks, no frills, just a classic burger on a great onion bun. Nick's salad is great, too -- hearts of palm, shrimp... some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.
I wouldn't cross the city for a meal here, but if you're shopping at Stonestown, I would definitely recommend this over the food court or anything else nearby.
3.5
This cozy family-owned restaurant is indeed (as many Yelpers have already mentioned) a good place to take your grandparents too. I didn't do so, I went here this morning (easter Sunday) with my roommates to have brunch. The food is really tasty, but absolutely not fancy. It is a nice diner, with good food and very friendly wait staff. Don't expect high-class food or high-class service. Just go here for the food and friendly service. The owners (family!) are very friendly and help the waiters out. You can tell the people like working here, which makes it look even more friendly.
Overall a very good spot for family or casual breakfast/lunch.
My opinion of this place is this: It's perfect for take out!
I went there once after I had a friend bring me breakfast from there (as take out of course) and as soon as I walked in I was looked up and down by the people that worked there who were really rude (they acted like seating me and my friend was a hassle and actually took so long to attempt to do so, we left!). I have got take out from there since this but I would NEVER eat-in. So 3 stars for the food. -5 for service.
Oh and as to their lunch & dinner menu - limited. I found that a grilled chicken w/t pesto was ok. Their "tortellini soup" was horrid!
Leave this place to the old folks and find someplace else that uses seasonings like SALT and FAT. Obviously this caters to the nursing home set as the decor hasn't changed it's pastel hues since at least the '60s. The food is WAY overpriced...$12 for a flavorless chicken sandwich with a side of fries? I don't think so. My grandmother would be pissed off if she were still alive and I took her here. She hated places that catered to "old farts" as she referred to other seniors. Gram was a rare gem! I work down the street from this place and my other coworkers can attest to this being a last ditch effort and even then most of us opt for the instant noodles under the sink. Even if they taste kinda like the Comet next to them it's way more flavor than any dish served at this place and costs a lot less too.
Since I have been to Taipei Restarant and Kakamura Restaurant it was time for a change to eat at another restaurant... This time I went to Lakeside Cafe for the first time on a rainy monday this was my first time eating at this place...
When, I got seated by the hostess and when, I looked at the menu it has been a very long time since... I have eaten a Corned Beef Sandwich when, I saw that item on the menu... Then I said to myself heck lets go with the Corned Beef Sandwich witb the Rye Bread it also comes with french fries which, I always like my French Fries w/o the salt which... I like most and along with The Corned Beef Sandwich... I always gotta have one of my favorite drink which is a Coca Cola that goes with my Corned Beef Sandwich...
When my waitress came with my order and when, I took a couple of bites off this sandwich... When I finished off this Corned Beef Sandwich, I have one thing to say about this Sandwich = YUMMMY YUMMY YUMMY
Overall service at my very first experience eating at Lakeside Cafe = A very cool restaurant also the waitress who served me was really really super nice... I always like restaurants with a clean restroom some restaurants may not have clean restrooms but LakeSide Cafe has it!!!
Lakeside Cafe for me reminds me like if I was at Marie Callendars reason why, I say this is because Lakeside Cafe is more like a place where families get together and eat... Not only that there were some young people like me eating but the most people that I saw eating at The Lakeside Cafe were mostly Senior people which is okay by me...
Lakeside Cafe for me is a really cool place to settle down and gobble gobble gobble what ever you like to eat!!!!!!!!!!
Sure this place is inhabitied by a bunch of old people, but they probably go here because the place is clean and moderately nice.
They only serve breakfast until 11:00AM, so they aren't quite a typical diner. I went with a friend around lunch time, so I had a Reuben (open face) and my friend had a patty melt. The Reuben was PILED with corned beef on top of dark rye with sauerkraut and swiss cheese on top. Came with nice fries. The patty melt features ground beef, which is 100% Angus chuck that the restaurant grinds themselves! Again, another delicious sandwich.
Prices are a bit on the high side...expect to spend about 11-15 per person (with drinks). Parking doesnt seem to be too much of a problem (though I know sometimes it can be). Waitress was friendly enough, and service was above average.
All in all, a good place to grab some american style eats if you're willing to pay a bit more and get a bit more. Definately recommended, and definately a nice suprise as an above average restaurant
A good place for dinner for those everyday occasions. The ingredients are fresh and the service is good. It has a warm friendly atmosphere and there is plenty of street parking. The table seating is comfortable and the tables are covered with white tablecloth. One can still have a quiet conversation even in the midst of rush. The early bird special for dinner is a very good deal.
I really like the breakfast here, the location is ok, parking can be a drag, but most of the time we walk here. I really like their pancake stacks, very fluffy and buttermilky...the OJ is always so fresh. I won't count the oatmeal since it is just "oatmeal" and nothing more....The atmosphere is always nice in here, the staff is pretty good, some times they lag on the water refills, water is an important thing when you eat so when they tend to overlook this, it doesn't help my spirit to tip 20%, they get 15% instead. Good place for a simple breakfast, nothing too special.
So I used to eat here often when I lived in SF because the location was easy to get to and meet up with people coming into and out of the peninsula. Then it was great. Now, not so much.
Our service was shotty at best. The food was still good but the server was just not on her game. Maybe they were short staffed but it was mid-day and the place was half empty. The hostess got my drink order, my friends water stayed empty most of the time, and the table that was seated long after us got their order taken and food delivered before us. Maybe they were one of those old time regulars but it didn't sit well with me.
I still give it three stars because the food was mostly good - french fries were way too crispy for my tastes but my friend liked them that way so I will look the other way on that one.
I've been here for breakfast/brunch a LONG time ago and it was really good. Unfortunately I was here the other night for dinner and Uhhh yeaaah not so good. I had the special scallops and they were a bit over cooked and it was kind of sour. The chicken was a bit dry and wasn't all that tasty either. Needless to say we left a bit upset that dinner wasn't as good as brunch. =\ On a side note, service is excellent so it's the only reason it gets 2 stars instead of 1.
Lakeside Cafe is a decent restaurant. Service is good however the food is OK. I came for brunch and had an egg white omelet but it wasn't flavorful. Lakeside Cafe is in a good location with ample parking nearby however it didn't impress me.
I ate dinner there last night. I'd never really checked out the restaurants around this part of Ocean & I thought maybe there was a hidden gem or two up here. That still might be true, but the Lakeside Cafe ain't one of 'em.
The service was friendly & attentive, but the food was just decent, & the atmosphere was a little too 'Nursing-Home-Cafeteria' for my tastes.
I really don't even have any strong opinions on this place one way or another...it seemed like the kind of strip mall diner you might find in the Midwest. It definitely doesn't feel like a San Francisco-type place.
Meh.
My parents come here all the time and for years--at least 10! Their favorite is the early bird specials, I think its around $12 before 7 and includes a salad, entree, drink and possible something else too but dont quote me. I've been there so many times and I've tried chicken breast, ny steak, veal, burger all of which have been very good. They have a great cooking and waiting staff. If I didn't go with my parents I'd really feel left out since it seems to appeal to an older crowd. If you don't get the early bird the prices of course are more but it's not shockingly high, it's decent for the type of food and service. If you have a dinner party here for a lot of people they have a big private room with it's own bathroom which is nice. But if you bring a cake they charge you per plate if you ask for extra plates to dish it out..so that's a warning if you care about those sorts of things.
I feel like I'm writing a review on my parents behalf which is why I didn't give the full rating.
I would come here anytime to have the lamb. I ordered the wedge (which was actually a head of romaine, not iceberg which is the traditional wedge salad) and it was SUPER great. The lamb was excellent and the potatoes with garlic and feta which they were on were some of the best potatoes I have ever eaten.
My partner has asked to substitute the potatoes with spinach and they forgot. When they brought out the entrees, the waiter noticed and said he would be right with the spinach. In about 2 minutes the spinach was there and my partner said " Boy I'm glad they made this mistake! These potatoes are awesome!"
My mom order the halibut which was very good. My dad ordered the hamburger which was also quite good. His fries were not fresh cut and he was disappointed about these especially after tasting the "lamb chop fries."
This is really a two star restaurant in my book.
But I gave them an extra star because our waitress was very attentive and friendly (in a genuine-I'm-not-doing-it-for-the-tip way). Also, because they have breakfast called Egg Beaters with eggs, artichoke, mushroom, and generous slices of cantaloupe on the side with whole grain bread, so I didn't have to substitute "hashbrown with fruit", "eggs with egg white or egg beaters" or "buttered toast with unbuttered whole wheat toast" - which always makes me feel like a freak. All for $8.95. Substituting always end up costing you a few couple of dollars elsewhere. Not here.
And I loved the "Golden Girls" in the eighties, so I thought it was a fun place to be.
I am kind of embarrassed to admit it, but I really love the Lakeside cafe. They have spoiled me with their hamburgers, which are , yummiest, sometimes cheesiest, bestest thing when you want a burger. I love their house salad, The dressing they use should be bottled and sold, it is that good. Oh and the daily fresh fish specials are great and a great way to justify the warm sourdough that comes to with the entrees. I am embarrassed by my love, because Lakeside is terribly uncool. The decor is dated, but not in an ironic, we've been around for decades West Lake Joe's kind of way, just dated. The majority of the customers are...well old. It's not the kind of place you go when your trying to impress. It is the kind of place you go with your besties because they like food too and don't need shiny things to hold their attention.
I wandered in here with low expectations and was happily surprised. The staff didn't miss a beat. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich I ordered was extraordinarily good (with melted cheese, grilled tomatoes, and pesto on a crispy french roll). My boyfriend ordered a Reuben which he devoured. The fries were really good too. Lunch came to about $25 which is a bit pricey, but not outrageous, for two sandwiches, fries and sodas which is why I'm giving it 4 stars not 5.
I'll definitely be back!
So I've been going to this restaurant for the last 6 or 7 years and I'm sorry to say that this visit was my last. From previous visits, I remember the food being very good, accompanied by excellent service...but apparently things change. It seemed as if the place had been taken over by new ownership, even though the hostess denied it.
The appetizers were bad. Very bad. Very very bad. We ordered the calamari and tiger prawns, and both were terrible. The last time I was here, I had tiger prawns and they were out of this world delicious (hence re-ordering them) but this time they were simply BAD. Overcooked, with 4 shrimp on top of a bed of lettuce that had been fatally flavored with some dressing...made me sad...=\
Calamari - Not fresh and the batter fell right off the rings when you picked it up with a fork. If you think this is good calamari, you haven't eaten good calamari.
Entrees weren't bad but weren't enough to make up for the poor appetizers. I still expected more from this old favorite... =(
As for service....Friendly, but it was Denny's. The hostess lets you seat yourself (although she could use the exercise)...directing you to a side of the restaurant and then letting you wander there by yourself...The waitress spilled water all over the table...(and by all over...I mean soaking table cloth...No joke...) Then when picking up plates, she spilled some kind of sauce on my pants.....Maybe I made her nervous or something...No...Couldn't be...just poor service. [I still tipped well, as she was trying...Or maybe just a farewell tip]
I feel bad bashing a neighborhood favorite that many of the old timers go to on a regular basis but it's simply not the same...Sorry Lakeside, it's time we go our separate ways.
Other good neighborhood joints - Gold Mirror or Rick's on Taraval.
=\
High(ish)-end diner, with furniture and lighting eerily similar to my mother in-law's senior residence. The similarity ends there, as the food is typically quite good, particularly the fresh fish specials that rotate throughout the week. Breakfasts are also high quality, particularly the eggs florentine, which is served on polenta rather than the traditional english muffin.
Service is down-home and friendly, either with seasoned professionals, or hard working new arrivals from other lands. Prices are not cheap, but reasonable for the quality fare.
I've found the Lakeside area to be a black hole when it comes to dining out, so Lakeside Cafe is a welcome oasis in this desert of dining. It's a good choice that will satisfy if not wow you.
Close to my house, but a little bit too typical for me. Maybe it's 'cause I've grown up around the place but there's nothing too special about the place. Burgers, salmon, mashed potatos, steak..the usual. Good if you're looking for a simple place to get a decent meal because they have really friendly waiters and waitresses though!
Went there for Sunday morning breakfast,
food was ok, i mean was decent breakfast, pasta, salmon dishes etc. But to catch up with their price, i think the food quality still have room to improve. ( i could easily have same quality food for cheaper $$)
We went as a party of nine. The waitress helped us looked like in her 20s, and she wasn't very helpful.
She never came over to ask if we need anything (more coffee, water etc.) She gave us a feelings that she doesn't really care much to serve us. no smile and wasn' t polite (her attitude was like we owe her somthing).
Beside that, ok, we ordered 3 glasses of orange juices and one grapefruit juice. When all the drinks came, we waited and waited, but the grapefruit was still missing. Then we asked her, she answered in a extremely casual way "Oh, we DON"T have it". Well Ms, why didn't you tell us you didn't have it when we placed the order??? or even if you didn't know when we place the order, but could you at least come tell us afterwards and maybe we can change to somthing else? The way she answered that question, sound like we shouldn't even have asked her PERIOD (if you know what i mean)
Well, the bus boy was even nicer than our waitress. I really don't know if that has any to do with our ethnicity? I have to think of it this way, but hey, i don't say this to all other restaurants? Besides, she did seem to be nicer to others ( by "others", you know what i mean)
Great for breakfast and lunch. The food is always fresh and never tastes greasy at all. The portion is good and prices are very affordable. You're always welcomed with a smile and the staff are always accommodating. If you have not been you gotta go!
OK, so it kind of feels like you are walking into a Denny's with the decor and all the senior citizens. But don't worry, you are in for a treat. Those seniors know exactly what they are doing. They are very wise. The service is friendly and fast and the food is shockingly good. We were very pleased with our experience there. The portions are a little out of control so make sure you bring your American appetite.... or share. They gave me a mountain of calamari!
Close to my parents house and convenient.
We thought it was going to be dinerish but it ended up being a little bit nicer than the standard diner. Lots of older people eating there, which isn't bothersome, we just didn't see anyone our age other than the staff. No big deal though.
The food was a mixed bag. Brian liked the calamari alot, he said it wasn't too chewey and it had good flavor. I on the other hand though the fried part of the calamari was good but it kept on falling off the calamari.
I ordered the risotto for my entree which was pretty much just rice with a little sauce on it, it was nowhere as creamy as I had been anticipating and didn't have too much flavor. :( On the other hand, Brian loved his mac and cheese, and even though he wasn't even hungry, he ate the whole thing. For dessert, I attempted the creme brulee since I didn't have more than 2 spoons of my dinner. It was torched prettily, but the burnt part that I normally loved, had no flavor in it. I don't know how all that works, but it just wasn't as good as I had been hoping for. Underneath the burnt part though the rest of the creme brulee was good so I did eat the whole thing minus the top burnt crisp part.
The service here was pretty good, the girl kept on refilling our sodas and asking if we needed anything else. I would come back if I was in the mood for this type of food, and didn't want to go far, but again but I don't think I will be dreaming of the food.
I've only eaten here a few times, always during the week, and only had breakfast. And I'll be back anytime it's convenient as they have most of the breakfast essentials.
Unfortunately, it won't hold up against any of the high-end places and I'm taking an extra star away because the coffee has been sub-par on each visit.
Are you serious?!
Only 24 reviews of this place?! Doesn't anyone eat here?!
I went on Mothers Day with my mom and my Granny. And my Granny ran into her church friends! Maybe that's it.......
I was in a senior joint. Damn!
But they know what's up, the food was so good. I only am giving it 4 stars because I think 5 stars is an ultimate high that I have yet to experience.
I had.....umm...oh! Some great soup, the waitress said it was a Greek soup and blah blah blah, it had lemon and chicken and rice. And it was SO good, but I love soup. And the calamari was the bomb, and the sauce for it was memorable too.
And I had a Reuben sandwich, yum. My dear Granny had some blackened salmon and she liked it; although she had a fit about there being no gravy. Then she went on a tirade about how nobody serves gravy with mashed potatoes anymore and she even asked the waitress why there was no gravy. WTF!
And my mom had a steak which was cooked perfectly but needed more seasoning, maybe they were taking it easy on the spice for the oldsters.
Well anyway, the consensus is that there's a buncha grannies here, well I don't care! Plus, grannies always pay the bill! Thought you knew!
My folks love this place....It seems to try to create a very high end ambiance/atmosphere with very nicely dressed waiters/waitresses, classical music playing, the decor, all that seems like they want to appear very high end.
Food is okay, not great, but definitely not bad. My favorite is a cheese burger....and at a place like this that probably shouldnt be your favorite but eh, they use good buns, the beef tastes good and their fries are VERY good...probably the best thing about it, is the deserts. Apple pie ala mode slightly warmed up is GREAT here. They use this wierd crust with hardened streaks of caramel ontop and it's really good.
Selection is very iffy, with both the food and the beer.
And I dont know how relevant this is, but yeah, some of the posters are right, there are ALOT of seniors that congregate here.
