If you are in Tahoe and love boating, you MUST book a trip with Steve!  My girlfriend and I were planning on renting a boat while staying in Tahoe but didn't really know where to go on the lake.  Then we stumbled across this sightseeing tour.  It was practically the same price to rent the boat as it was to get a self-guided tour.  Steve (the captain) took us anywhere and every where we wanted to go on his beautiful decked out boat!  That boat was soooo nice, big and fast!  The trip is perfect for partying (since you have a designated driver), for families who like tubing and water sports or for anyone who wants to explore Lake Tahoe with a guide who knows everything about the lake.  He tailors the trip to your wants and needs.  What more could you ask for?

Plus an added bonus is that you don't have to bring a camera.  He takes all of the pictures for you plus lets you use his camera to take any shot you want.  Then he'll mail you a CD of your day!

The price is a little steep if there are only 2 of you, so I definitely recommend getting as many people as possible to share the costs because the pricing is per hour and not per person.  I think he can fit 11 people on the boat.  Besides the more the merrier is what I say and definitely will be bringing lots of friends on the next trip!

Capt Steve is my new best friend!

We were in Tahoe for a week with some friends and wanted to go out on the lake.  We thought about renting a boat, but honestly I know nothing about boats and a friend who lives full time in the Keys and keeps a boat in the marina had warned me about how shallow the water there is and how easy it is to damage the rental boats (and get stuck with a big repair bill).

I saw Capt Steve's business on Yelp and remembered he was favorably mentioned in our guide book, so figured I'd give him a try.  We initially booked for middle of the week, but it turned out the weather that day wasn't going to be that good, and so he gave us the option (that morning even!) of rescheduling at no additional charge (which we did).  He even picked us up at a dock at the house we were staying at in the Keys for no extra charge.

His boat is quite nice, about 27 feet, and he says it qualifies as a "power yacht" (whatever that means; all I know is it is very fast and quite spacious but stable enough that nobody got seasick, not even my 7 year old girl that gets car sick virtually every trip through the mountains on Hwy 50!).

The boat looks to be pretty new, definitely less than 5 years old, is very clean and well-maintained and looks "top of the line."  It's got a great sound system on it, he'll play whatever music you want, he and brings all the equipment--wetsuits, life jackets, snacks, drinks, stuff to waterski, stuff to go tubing, stuff to go snorkelling.  Apparently no fishing, though, so if that's your thing look elsewhere.

There is  even a small restroom/toilet on board.

He seems very knowledgeable about the lake and can do whatever sightseeing you want or if you just want to go waterskiing or tubing or go to a remote beach and swim--he'll do any of the above.  Also runs a "sunset tour" .

As an added bonus, his wife runs a babysitting business, so if you want the kids watched while you and your pals go out on the lake for some adult entertainment, he can arrange that too.  He told me his family has lived and worked at Tahoe for more than 25 years, plus he's worked teaching skiing and such to kids for many years.

I could really tell he enjoys working with kids and sharing what he knows.  All the kids had a BLAST--the first thing my 3 year old said the next morning was "when can we go on that boat again?"

That's the best part--he seems genuinely very good natured, cheerful, and positive.  I think he probably could do quite well in sales if he chose--I suspect he could chat with just about anybody.  He very patiently spent at least 20 minutes teaching the kids to waterski (all under the age of 12).

The boat holds 6 people plus Capt Steve.  We paid $585 for a four hour package, and split that into 2 separate two hour trips (because we had 12 people total in our party, so half went each time).  He didn't charge extra for coming back to the dock to swap out people, either.  The day before we spent $200 just having lunch (those same 12 people, which included 4 adults and 8 kids) at the Tahoe Keys marina restaurant (Fresh Ketch), so $585 is really pretty reasonable for four hours of fun, especially considering what they get per hour for the rental boats, which are not nearly as nice and there's always the wild card of "will I hit sand and damage a propeller costing me an extra four hundred bucks"?  I mean, I paid $30 bucks an hour just to rent a kayak earlier in the week...

We had a GREAT time and actually booked him for an upcoming trip next month with some other friends.  The kids can hardly wait!
