Lake Merced Golf Club
9 reviews for Lake Merced Golf Club
I've been fortunate enough to have been invited to play Lake Merced twice. It is located in San Francisco's golf mecca. Surrounding Lake Merced, are three other fantastic golf adventures...the Olympic Club, SFGC and Harding Park.
Lake Merced has a recently renovated club house that is fabulous. Connected to the pro shop is a neat little grill where I grabbed a cup of chili to go and started my round. The course is in tip-top shape, hilly and carved through the trees. It is very similar to the surrounding courses. All of which are top notch.
I'd play here again in a heartbeat. I'd suggest you to do the same should you ever get the chance!
I had to come here for a wedding reception earlier this Summer and let em just say that this place is PERFECT for a romantic stroll with a cute little hunny.
THe trees are big, the fog usually rolls in in the afternoon time, making for a VERY romantic setting.
I highly recommend everyone checking it out sometime, if you can.
Lake Merced Golf Club's course is a fun, challenging test of golf with excellent use of elevation change on a number of holes. Most memorable were the massive drop to the green on #16, and the chasm between fairway and green on #17. The one time I played the course I rode, and I now wish I'd walked. It is a course designed for a good walk.
The membership is truly diverse - for the millionaire set, anyway. It is the one golf club in San Francisco that has embraced Jews, Asians and other minorities from the onset. I spend a lot of time on the driving range at Lake Merced because I take lessons from their golf pro, Dan McBride (who deserves his own review).
The staff always treat me respectfully, and the membership is courteous. If I had $100k to drop on a country club membership, I'd stake my claim at Lake Merced Golf Club. I'm still angling to get another round out there from the client who took me two years ago. And playing the lottery when it's over $40million.
Terrific little find on a Saturday warm and sunny day!!
I couldn't believe how beautiful the grounds are at this place! The people here were friendly and not your typical stuffy snotty folk at the Presidio Golf Course. We had a wonderful time here and would definitely go back. They even had last minute tee times - which is rare for a sunny weekend day!!
definately the nicest private course ive been to. nice meaning people/staff/attitude wise, not to say this place is not a wonderful and beautiful course.
love the driving range. they have mats if you choose, bunkers, grass... and shit, its free. gotta love that.
the staff arent snobby. neither are the members. this place, if im remembering correctly, was the first private club to allow jews (the "bad" element back then). dont quote me on this, but the story goes, they wouldnt allow jews in the olympic club down the way, so the jews built there own club..... like i said not completely sure if i have my facts straight. regardless, this place feels very welcoming even to a motorcycle riding, punk asian kid like me.
sunday buffet is awesome!!!!
I've grown up going to Lake Merced with my grandparents and the place holds a lot of memories for me. While once old fashioned and a little run down, it is now more modern and very nice. The Sunday night dinner buffet for members only is pretty darn good and the occasional bingo, yep, I said bingo, nights are also kind of fun. I want to play golf there one day, but first things first, gotta learn to play!
Private club, elitist but not snobbish people. Well I have only been there once to attend a "farewell party" to a couple leaving SF for New Jersey. It was actually a round of golf and cocktails after. But since I don't think my skill as a golfer is worth the green fee yet...I just attended the cocktails afterwards. The clubhouse exudes this "private, homey, grand feeling," walls lined in dark wood but have have wide picture windows so you get the view of the golf course. The bartender was very warm and attentive.
difficult golf course... i love it.
the remodel a few years ago did wonders. it's modern, spacious, elegant and yet casual enough where you feel comfortable mingling with others.
my fave meal at the clubhouse: thai shrimp skewers on brussel sprouts slaw and a triple cape cod!
This place is really high end, but if you've got the green, they do too. A lovely gold course, beautifully re-done club house, and excellent restaurant complete the club. I reviewed the restaurant wtih a group of 20, before the opening and there were few kinks to fix. Though I didn't order everything, we decided to place musical plates. The chicken chow mein was unbelieveable - to die for - incredible - I couldn't believe it was chow mein, good. The chicken broke apart with a fork and was seasoned to perfection and I don't even like chow mein. I had to ask - they brine it and then use broilers at different levels to properly cook chicken, beef, or sea food at the exact temperature required, instead of just using a single broiler for all dishes. The desserts were amazing - featuring one of the best chocolate chip cookes I've ever had and an amazing assortment of other options. As far as the club house - dark wood, brand new everything, marble and granite, wood looker rooms with card tables and snack areas, a cafe and golf shop towards the greens, and simply exsquisite overall!
