3 reviews for Lake Henshaw Cafe
I came here after camping at the Lake Henshaw campgrounds. After eating only cold ham sandwiches and chips all weekend, I was looking forward to a hot breakfast.
My Denver omelet was satisfying but forgettable. The four star rating is really for the unforgettable view of the lake through the diner windows. In the morning it looks like a postcard.
While the view outside is amazing, inside could use a little work. There was a dead mosquito stuck to the wall. And buzzing fly issues as wells. Despite serious bug issues, it had a country charm. Expect to dine with firefighters, motorcyclist, campers, and cowboys
The only reason to dine here is because it is the only place for miles.
The food is ho hum, the service is slow, and the waitresses have attitude.
In my opinion if you are that hungry to eat there, hang on for 5 more minutes and head to the Santa Ysabel Casino.
Typical American cafe food in a beautiful remote location over looking Lake Henshaw and grazing cattle at the foot of the east side of Palomar Mountain. I have stopped here a few times when out exploring the San Diego back country. This place is popular with ranchers, motorcycle riders and campers. It isn't croweded like the touristy places in Santa Ysabel, which is about 9 miles down the road. Be sure and say "howdy" to the staff and tip your hat when you arrive.
