Great place to spend the day, young or old. The entire park is impressively clean (by theme park standards), and for the seventy bucks (!) my wife and I paid to get in, it's was well worth the cost.

Speaking of which, if you plan on going to Lake Compounce more than twice, you should absolutely buy a season pass. I think it's $80 or more for the pass, including parking, but you're going to save a lot of a cash that way...

Another way to save cash would be to avoid coming hungry.. Food is greasy, very expensive, and they screen you like airport security at the entrance gate for any smuggled eats. You probably expect this, but it's good to plan ahead. It's too easy to get sucked into an impulse meal here..

Long story short: great waterpark for it's size; fun amusement rides for all ages; expensive food (no surprise); clean; long lines on busy days; absolute hit for the kids.

Cons: 1 out of every 100 people you come into olfactory-sensitive proximity with will have not bathed in over three weeks. It's amazing, and disgusting. Not the park's fault, but just a shell-shocked observation from my end...

Damn fun. Now go.

I just don't get it.

I've been going to Lake Compounce for years, always hoping that this time will be better than the last. It never is. It never improves. It is an average theme park and once you've been to a place like Six Flags, it fails to measure up.

Like another reviewer said, this park will fall flat for someone without kids. You can only stand in line for the Wildcat or Boulderdash so many times, you know? And you'll spend more time in line than you will on the actual roller coasters. The only coaster with a short line is the Zoomerang, and seeing how many times people have gotten stuck mid-helix, I can definitely see why.

I won't lie, I loved this park as a child. But that was when I was a child. It's not fun anymore. I go back on my own time, always hoping that this will be that one magic time where everyone else's glowing praise makes sense to me. Instead, I wait half an hour to get on a two-minute ride, find that the seats are wet because the previous riders had just come out of the waterpark area without drying off, and spend the ride itself wondering why I thought it was a good idea to get on in the first place. Let's face it, the Wildcat is painful to ride. Painful. You get whipped back and forth sharply for the entire duration. At that point it's no longer fun, it just hurts.

I don't know. It's definitely not worth the money to me. I guess people become attached to it because it's all we really have for parks here in CT? I don't know... to me, it stopped being special once I hit puberty.

This amusement park has the famous interactive Ghost Hunt ride which guests can play a virtual ghost buster for vanquishing ghosts with a laser gun similar to Universal Studio's Men in Black interactive ride.  Guests will be waiting on bread lines for rides as the lines moves slowly like a snail.  The park food is decent with good funnel cakes.

In the summer months, guests must re-apply sun screen with SPF 50 with sun glasses as the heat and humidity is unbearable.  Bristol, CT is located inland away from the coast which there is more humidity.

Being a recent CT transplant, I guess I don't have the nostalgic feelings towards Lake Compounce that seem to be expressed by some of the other reviewers.  Rather I can only compare it to the one's I remember growing up with in CA.  Lake Compounce is not Six Flags, or Disneyland, not even Knott's Berry Farm...but it is cheaper and has free soda.

I went to attend a corporate retreat/picnic event, and I found that the park isn't that enjoyable for someone without kids...None of the rides were that exciting, and the water park areas were nauseating, there was more chlorine in the air than I could take.  It is cool that there is a water park and roller coasters in the same area (most CA parks charge seperate admission), but hen everything ends up wet...which is not good for those not wearing swimwear.

That and the boardwalk/carnival style games were ridiculously overpriced:  3 Rings for $5.00??? and The resulting prize looks as if It costs about $2.50...the risk/reward scenario is off.

The picnic pavillion that was catering the event was good though, with a nice little salad bar and BBQ, but man people go crazy for free food and soda (or it least when it's on the company tab).  The pavillion is also pretty far walk from the main area.

Parking was free for the event, but normally $5, which is pretty fair.  I can't see myself going back voluntarily until I have kids in the target range of 4-12.

What a wonderful local amusement park - definitely a timeless seasonal treasure in New England....

Except on the days when there are buses.

My sister and I take our kids every summer and we all love the water park as well as the traditional rides (& Boulderdash!!!!).  Last summer we happened to go on a Thursday along with (unbeknownst to us) several "fresh air fund" groups.  OMG!!!  Picture wall-to-wall bodies in the wave pool, I am not kidding.  There were so many people that we eventually left the water park for the rest of the day and commenced to the regular rides.

One major plus here is the expanded deck on the "Croc Pot" restaurant that has the Lazy River ride moving right on by.  As a parent, you can sit on the deck and have full view of the kids on the ride - not bad if your pooped and carrying everything.  Also, great to unwind on the deck with some friends and some beers when not being a parent.

We love this place and prefer it to be on the quiet side - if you go during the week in August try a Tuesday.

I've ridden around 180 roller coasters across the US.  Compounce is a truly great park, and definitely the best in New England.  Boulderdash is one of the best coasters in the world, and if you're into coasters BD is alone worth the trip.  Other standouts include Ghost Hunt, Thunder N' Lightning, The Trolley, Thunder Rapids (one of the best in the country), The Lake Railroad, and The Skyride which offers incredible views of the surrounding area.  It's not a huge park but for it's size it is remarkably packed with high quality attractions.

I totally rode the swing ride with Paula Abdul when I was a child. Incidentally, she was as tall as I was. And when I was 12 or so, I went on the ride that spins and you stick to the wall so many times that to this day I can't go on spinning rides without vomiting. I haven't been for years, it's true. But I have some great memories of this place. It (was? is?) smaller than Six Flags, but still has a lot of the stuff to entertain you, like the water park and a nice steel coaster. Really, I think Lake Compounce is best for families with kids 4-13. The Carousel is perfect for the younger set, and you'll appreciate its classic beauty. And for the tweens, there's the stick to the wall ride. But please, don't let them ride it over and over again, even if they say they want to.

Go to Bristol CT and take the family with you...Lake Compounce Amusement Park is there!

This is mini-Disney.  Clean, reasonably priced, great rides, good food (try a whole Pizza at the place by the lake...great price and you can all share), and so convenient to get in and out of.  Really one of the great must do's of Central CT.

Pros- free soda, boulderdash, cheaper than 6 flags, waterpark, fried Oreos, open late often, clean, family orientated, friendly and helpful staff

Cons- gets crowded often especially in the waterpark, food prices are a little high (but if u want to save money you can just hide your food under your towels in your bag or something like that)

Recommend for ages 3-15 & parents and up although it is still enjoyable for older teens & young adults (waterpark, roller coasters, & sky dive ride thing)

Gift stores & 2 ATMs

Haunted graveyard too!

My favorite thing is that you can buy a picture that is taken while you are on boulder dash.  I bought a keychain of it when I was in 7thgrade of when I was on it with my friends and I still treasure it!

im surprised i didnt post this, but why not now!
ok 4stars yelpirinos, heres the dealio.

so for admissions cheaper then 6 flags, free parking (i think) and free soda, this place is the shizz.  great coasters, about as far as driving out to 6flags and well as i said just as good if not better. they also have a pretty good fry stand over there. i know these are not the thing memories are made off, hey, your right, but what i know is this, until you become an uncle/parent/whatever and you have to drag your kids/nephews/whatevers to disney (and you will) and you seek out amusement for the adult in you, this is a great alternative.  the one thing i will say that is not good, is the bummer cars, or what i will refer to as the car of lower back pain.  its not me, thats for sure, i havent reached the decrepit era of my life, but this ride is awful on the sciatica, yup say hello to the chiropractor for me, maybe the park and the local office are in cahoots.  well away, ive never felt my vertebrae actually destroy itself.

ok, closing:

pros-free soda, drink drink drink your way to excitement!
cheaper then 6 flags
awesome roller coasters
good fries (dont ask why this is important to me, duh)

cons:
in Connecticut, yea, i said it , i still dont like you CT and the whole break your back on the bumpercars.

now put the t-bird away and get back to work!
