Great, clean campground and tremendous lakefront and boating experience.

    I highly recommend it!

We have been camping at Lake Anna a couple times a year for the past 6 or so years.  The sites are very large (we bring an 18ft. bass boat with us) and well maintained with a smooth gravel base.  The showers are clean and large, and FREE. We don't do much at the campground besides shower and sleep (tent).  We fish all day and go out for dinner.

There are only a couple of decent nearby restaurants, but we don't mind traveling a bit so we have gone as far as Fredricksburg.  Since we are anxious to get on the water, breakfast is usually a sandwich at a semi-near convenience store/gas station/bait store, sitting on the boat (or on the curb or a picnic table) but that's okay with us. We don't mind 'roughing it' for breakfast.

The lake is fabulous, but if you are boating be sure to have a good gps.  It's easy to get lost on the water with so many creeks and arms coming off the main lake.  Great bass fishing if you know what you're doing, tougher for the amateurs and out of town folks (we are from PA).  We finally found the good spots!

This campground is our favorite for what we do, and we fish and camp the east coast (public and private) from VA to ME.  We don't avail ourselves of all of the amenities offered, so I can't comment on the rest.  We did visit the winery and got a lot of information about the lake, and some award winning wine!

It's a nice setting. Beautiful lake side camping. But, when I have been there the showers did not drain well, so the water in the shower was up to my mid calf. But, other than that it was a quaint little campground. Fun for the kids.

This may well be the best damn former-gold-mine nuclear power plant/state park spot in the friggin' world (kinda like Chernobyl by Disney)!  At least, I don't know any other community nutty enough to combine the two, but I digress.

All crap-talk aside, don't let the whole radiation leak thing scare you away from having a good time (at any rate, children are a royal pain in the ass).  At Lake Anna, you will find plenty to keep you busy and happy--water sports like wakeboarding and jetskiing, good ol' summer boating, fishing, camping, more than 15 miles of hiking trails, mountain biking, horse trails, picnicking, wineries, golfing, random dirty-soggy lovemaking, friggin cows, et cetera are just the tip of the ice burg!

The water is a deep blue, the lake absolutely placid and there is both space aplenty for fun and a great collection of polite and happy people bent on having it.  Lake Anna is the second largest lake located entirely in Virginia with over 200 miles of shoreline and stretching 17 miles long.  Our group wakeboarded, waterskied, wakesurfed, barbecued and camped out over Memorial Day weekend, and even then there was plenty of room to both mingle with other groups and to do our own thing whenever we wanted to get a little more privacy.  A major added bonus for me is the fact that T-Mobile has absolutely zero service in the area.  Woohooooo!

If you've got a big group, and aren't really into camping, rent a cabin or two and stay for the full weekend, trust meh.  Also, if you're at all interested in wakeboarding (and you should be, because it kicks the crud out of pansy watersports, like wind surfing), I would very highly recommend contacting the resident pro/instructor, Jimmy, at +1 434-466-5417.  He's highly sought after by even seasoned boarders, will give you a great deal and may knock a substantial percentage off gear if you get into the sport or need an upgrade.

This campground is obviously very new, as the facilities were clean and the layout was different than a lot of other campgrounds.  I like how there was one trash area on the way outside the campground, which reduced nasty smells by your campsite!  The bathrooms included free showers (they're located to the back of the restrooms, I almost didn't find them).  This helps for the impending traffic jam in the mornings of busy weekends, as people can wait away from the restrooms.

There were a couple things that were disappointing about this place.  One, since the campground is so new, a lot of the trees are new as well.  I felt there were very few campsites that seemed "secluded."  Hopefully in the next couple years the brush will thicken out and make the individual campsites more private.  Also, while it is Lake Anna State Park, the campsites aren't situated even within sight of the lake.  It would be nice to be able to camp close to the lake.  There is a nice, paved trail that you can take to the lakeshore (about 5 minutes away).

Overall, I would recommend this place.  The staff was very friendly and it was pretty empty for September.  Getaway from the DC hustle and spend a weekend tending to your campfire.

If you haven't been to Lake Anna, then you need to go!  It's the 2nd largest lake in Virginia.  This is more than enough size of a lake for you to come out and have your fun in the water.

You can come out here and to boating, fishing, jet-skiing, swimming and whatnots.  I came out here to jet-ski and I just had a blast!  Of course, I had an idiotic moment that could have been filmed and sent to America's Funniest Videos.  Nonetheless, I had fun.

Afterwards, you can go boating and then go drooling over the beautiful houses on the lake.  People there are friendly and wave as you go by.

So, just c'mon out with family and/or friends and just have a relaxing time in Lake Anna.

My family rented a log cabin over the 4th of July weekend. What a great way to get away from civilization. No internet, cell phones, cable were accessed here. Walk outside the backyard from the cabin and walk into a woodsy path to the lake. There were neighbors in other cabins nearby, but we never heard them, and were pretty much secluded from any civilization.
Don't expect finding restaurants. We all brought a week's worth of food  to bbq, because restaurants are at least 30 minutes away from the lake.
During the weekend, we took a boat ride tour of the lake. The lake is great for jet-skiing and fishing. My niece and nephew (1 and 5 years old) had a great time learning how to swim in the water.
Lake Anna is the place to retreat when you need to just unplug your electronics, and unwind on the water. From DC, Lake Anna is about 2 hours away toward Fredericksburg. From Manassas, the drive was an hour an a half either on Route 15 or 95.
