If you want fancy shmancy, this place is not it.  If you want authentic greek, eat here!  It never disappoints.  The waitstaff leaves you wanting nothing.  They are extremely attentive, and even for a camel like me, continue to fill my water glass.    We recently had a nice buffet of lamb chops, lemon rice soup, spinach pie (to die for), olives, hummus, and of course saganaki.  All was excellent.

The best part? the autographed photos of every celebrity who has visited.  Chuck Gaidica will stare right at you if you sit in the second booth.

Yummmmmm.

I was here for lunch and had the gyro platter. It was so disguesting I didn't ever finish it. The green beens were luke warm, the meat, some nasty mushy mesh.
No wonder the place was EMPTY at lunchtime-word must have gotten around.
Don't waste your money here.

You'll stand in line for 90 minutes on a Friday night... and you'll stand there for another 90 if you have to, this place is so good. You can eat the lamb with a spoon.

This is a really great Greektown place. I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Favorte appetizer: tarama salata. It's pink and fishy tasting (it's made from cod roe), and you dip your bread in it. You can dip fries in it too, yum!

Favorite meal: lamb w/green beans. It's been simmering a long time on the back burner in tomato sauce, and the beans are great.

Favorite soup: Gotta go around orthodox Easter and get the special lemon-rice soup with bits of chicken liver in it.

Best dessert: Can't go wrong with baklava and strong Greek coffee. It's an ideal place to go before a hockey game, too.

Least favorite thing: the rice with tomato sauce. I don't like it in any Greek restaurant in the area.

Groups can be accommodated easily upstairs. Not sure if that area is wheelchair accessible, though. Might not be.

This place gave me a reminder of  how much I missed  the taste of real lemon rice soup!  I had a big bowl and I pretty much licked it clean!  I use to love this soup when I was a kid and my family would go to Opa! inside of former Trappers Alley Mall...now Greektown Casino!  My boyfriend ordered a gyro and the meat was tender and delicious!  I also like that they still bring you a bread basket, which was perfect with my soup!  The service here was prompt.  The bill for my soup and the gyro was about $15.00...so pricing is average to other restaurants in Greektown.  The interior is classic and cozy with full bar in the center.  There is also an upstairs dining area that is open when the place gets full.

I was a Hellas fan forever until I tried Laikon's Moussaka.
Best Moussaka in all of Detroit!
That tomato sauce they put on top of it is, to, die, for.
(I always ask for extra)
Friendly wait staff.
Open atmosphere.
Mike is a great waiter.
(worth sitting in the smoking section for)
Try the Santa Marina white wine.

Um okay yelpers, what's up? You all led me astray. I am in Detroit for the weekend and needed dinner so of course I turn to Yelp. With all the great reviews for this place, I thought why not. Hate to break it to you, but the food was not good. Dinner started off bad with bread that tasted like Wonder Bread.  Things seemed okay with the saganaki which was fine. Not fantastic, but it is hard to screw up cheese. For our meal we ordered a trio plate and a combo plate. The rice had an odd taste to it, the chicken was very dry, the spanakopita was just so so (my husband didn't like it at all and that is normally his favorite Greek dish).  The mousakka was the best of what we ordered, but that isn't saying a whole lot.  My husband and I always clean our plates and are not picky eaters, but this time over half our food was left and not because we were full. The two stars are because the service was great. I would not eat here again.

Laikon did seem the most authentic of the many restaurants around Greektown but I just wasn't that into the food. Entrees were in the $12-16 range and they had a variety of entertaining things like flaming cheese and photos of many celebrities who had dined at the restaurant. Service was friendly and fast even for our large party.

Of the various Greek restaurants that essentially have the same menu, Laikon is my drug of choice in Greektown.

Laikon Cafe serves amazing Greek food that's authentic and unpretentious.  The chicken gyro was wonderfully seasoned and the rice and tzatziki sauce are some of the best around.  Service is fast and sincere, and the prices are reasonable.  The interior reminds me of the 1920s with Tiffany lamps and a big wooden staircase to the second floor.

This place is cool, definitely way cooler and more 'authentic' feeling than Pegasus (which feels and looks like an industrial machine compared to this restaurant).

Huge plus to this place is they actually serve their food HOT, and the spinach pocket thing is FRESH and CRISPY, and the peas don't come from a can. It's really quite tasty and worth a try.

The waiters are really friendly and this place just has that cool pre-Greektown Casino era vibe to it.

The owner still works in the kitchen, and this is reflected in the quality of the food.

Loukaniko (Greek sauasage) is excellent.  I'm partial to the octopus stew as a main course. The Greek-style fish is another favorite. I don't even bother with any other restaurant in Greektown.  Sure the decor is reminiscent of a 70's mob movie, but I go to a restaurant to eat -- not to be wowed by interior decorating.

Good, authentic Greek restaurant in, duh, Greektown.  I went with a group and we ate family style upstairs, which actually seems nicer than the main area below.  It was very good with lots of appetizers including some sort of flaming cheese concoction.

If you're confused walking around Greektown and aren't quite sure where to eat because you don't want to be ripped off and you want to have an "authentic" tasting meal, then I'll just help you out here.  Go ahead and choose this joint because it'll cover a lot of your ground.

Great food at this Greektown stapel business . It has been there forever .  They have wonderful Greek Gyros and my friend has a fish dinner that was a special . He claimed it was perfect .  The staff knows every letter on the menu .  To be in Greektown and not eat here would be a mistake . On a second visit the food and service were just as good . This restaurant is great .

Laikon Cafe is easily my favorite Greek restaurant in metro Detroit... hands down best in Greektown.  It happens to be the most authentic of all the restaurants as well, which is probably why it has the most delicious food.  If it were up to me, I would only eat there when I go out for Greek.  Not only is the food incredible, but the staff is welcoming and the decor only adds to the authentic feel.  I really could go on and on about how much I love this place, but there's no reason to boast when a place speaks for itself.  I'd rather just let you go and formulate your own opinion, because I know you will be just as amazed as I.
