Wow! This resort is not only beautiful overlooking the beach and harbor, their staff is over the top and a class act.
My hubby and I recently spent our Wedding Anniversary there at this gorgeous hotel and let me tell you from the moment we checked in they upgraded our room to a pool view upon knowing what we were there celebrating. Then we went to the pool and the weather was perfect and the waiter staff was very friendly, when we went back to our room for a moment we were surprised with a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. NICE!
The rate we got was absolutely great for the location we even got breakfast for two included and a $40 credit for their Spa towards a 50 minute massage.....since it was our anniversary when they sent up this package they upgraded our breakfast to a dinner voucher for $110 and when we went to dinner we did not know it was after serving time at Vue they still served us anyway and sent over a complimentary dessert. The dinner was delicious we had filet mignon and the appetizer was shrimp tempura...YUM!
This resort went over and beyond to make our anniversary special, the only way they knew was because I am a Marriott Reward Member and that was listed and they just blew us away with how they kept making us feel special.
I highly recommend this resort, the staff just highlights this beautiful place and the view from your room and pool is just gorgeous. The restaurant food was great and the time spent there was just lovely. You truly will be impressed and delighted!!!!
The scenery is great and it's next to a really nice park overlooking the marina and pacific ocean. The pool area has a very large hot tub, a wading pool for children, and cool lounge chairs on some astroturf. Furniture I would actually put on my patio if I happened to live in a place where it doesn't rain, like Laguna Beach. The staff is ultra polite and friendly, always asking if they can help you out, how is your day, where are you going and do you need directions, would you like some water, are you coming back later...And that's mostly just the valet service (because it usually costs $24/day)!
Since they are doing renovations I didn't get to see all the amenities like the awesome gym and cafe. I know breakfast is pricey and internet is not included. When you are bragging to your friends about what a nice place you stayed at, is it cool to pay $13 a day for internet? I could stay at a Hampton Inn and get free Wifi. I also don't understand why anyone would pay $65 for a signature (basic) pedicure. Their spa prices are outrageous which is probably why it always empty.
Overall, the room had some original furniture pieces and headboards. We trashed our room (actually my infant nephew did the damage!) and the maids were very pleasant and efficient about everything.
We had an excellent stay here for our anniversary. I gave the usual spiel about it being a special occasion, not expecting much. Not only did we get an upgrade to a great room with a balcony water view, but after we got back from dinner there was complimentary champagne on ice with chocolate strawberries and a handwritten note! Probably the best single act of service I've experienced at a hotel.
The other huge highlight was the breakfast buffet. Our stay included breakfast each morning, and what a deal that was. Great service, and wonderful food. I just wished I could've tried everything!
The grassy area in the front of the hotel is a great place to stroll, and you can walk right downhill to the marina, where there are lots of great dining options. It's actually the perfect location for a combination of seclusion and proximity to services.
Much recommended for an OC getaway!
The views from the hotel overlooking the harbor are pretty spectacular -- it's no surprise that we saw two weddings the weekend we were there.
The room was clean and comfortable and we were pleasantly surprised how quiet it was a night even though there are a bunch of rooms facing the pool and a lot of kids running around during the day.
Be sure to check out their brand new fitness center which is full of new
equipment and amenities.
We got a sweet room overlooking the pool for a good deal on Hotwire, although parking is a little pricey at $24/day.

+friendly and nice staff
+nice views
+central yet quiet location
- tiny rooms
- terrible layout and access to rooms
- everything costs an arm and leg (elephant's)
- no restaurant or stores or cafe within 10 minutes walk other than their overpriced facilities
How about the trick: would you like valet parkign or you park yourself? and then you ask, "where", they say, "accross in the parking lot" and then they add $24 for parking per day to your bill.
how about about they charge for internet, they have no ice, just 3 minutes away, they have TVs from the 90s and a coffee in the restaurant costs $3.95. The 2nd set of soap cost
$15. It's for the rich. Not the room rates BUT everything else. It's in reality $$$$$
Bottom line, I would not stay here again. It's not about the price mainly, it's about expectations. If I pay $260 for a room-as I did, I don't expect extra charges for using the mirror to look at myself. If it was $290 and no extra costs I would have been much happier
I was here for a conference, so thankfully the company was paying the $199 per night that they wanted to stay here. It was May, so reasonably high season.
The hotel is a little bit dated, but has a great view, good (for banquet) food, and if I didn't already mention it, has a great view, on a hill overlooking Dana Point harbor. Lots of nice running and walking trails around.
Half of the hotel was under construction (in May) so one of the pools was closed and the common areas were smaller. Still nice, though.
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was definitely pricey but I felt my money was well worth it. The bed was super comfortable and we had a great balcony that had a view of the ocean. The pool was nice and an afternoon ping pong game was a treat (even though I only watched).
I agree with Jason about the breakfast in bed. In fact, we loved our breakfast in bed so much that we went ahead and got lunch in bed as well! Great room service food, for sure!
Short version: Find another hotel!!! Way over priced for Motel-6 quality!
Long version: Went to the Laguna Cliffs Marriott for my Cousin's wedding this weekend. The ceremony was very nice. The food was pretty good for banquet food.
The grounds / buildings are in need of repair. Paint peeling, wall paper peeling, etc.
In our room, the curtains would not close, which means the bright sun shines in @ 6 am! A/C did not work in our room. When notified the staff, they said they would "take care of it", yet it was still 80 @ midnight!
I have never paid so much for crappy service. Hotel staff is not attentive to their customers.
When we went to check out at the front desk, they blew it off as it was no big deal. After going back and forth, they knocked off $50. Big deal...
Room: $225
Parking: $25
Refund: $50
------------------------
Grand Total: $200...
Way over priced for Motel-6 quality!
I would recommend staying elsewhere.

I haven't relaxed this well in a long time. This hotel and its staff makes you feel pampered and relaxed.
The hotel itself is pretty and sits on a hill overlooking Doheny beach and the Dana Point harbor. The view is wonderful. Our room (as with most rooms here) had a nice ocean view. The grounds are beautiful. The staff is so pleasant and helpful. Not a single staff member passed us without saying hi. Coming from a customer service background, that is most impressive.
Our room was cute. We had nice toiletries, robes, comfy beds and blankets. Nothing could be better!
We got our deal from Travel Zoo for $189 a night which included the hotel, parking, breakfast, and a $40 spa credit (which we didn't use since the spa is majorly expensive for my taste).

The Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort and Spa is a beautiful hotel located on a large hill, overlooking the beautiful beach and marina. The town of Laguna Beach is only a few moments away. The hotel offers a spacious and well-equipped gym, a full-service spa, delicious restaurant, 2 pools, and more.
The lobby coffee shop serves various coffees, teas, and baked goods. It is a great service for the many business travelers on the go. The Vue restaurant serves delicious fresh seafood in large portions. The sprawling lobby and classy piano bar offer relaxation and terrific views.
Most rooms offer large balconies for fews of the surrounding hills and/or beach. The bedrooms and bathrooms offer huge amounts of extra space and are quite clean.
From the front desk staff to the food servers, the hotel staff greets you with a smile, always ready to be of assistance.
I was extremely pleased with my stay.

Nice hotel, with a nice pool area and a stellar view of the ocean, but it was pretty pricey. Our friends stayed across the street (closer to the water and the harbor) and also had a pool and paid a lot less. The bed was definitely comfortable and the room was pretty big. If you are going to stay here, you might as well go big and get breakfast in bed. There's no better way to wake up.

Such a beautiful hotel & great staff! I love the beds, Its like sleeping on clouds! I can't wait for the renovation to be finished, it is going to be just fantastic! It is pricey, but you pay for the location, it is dated, but they are constantly updating it. Very casual beach hotel, that is why we love it! Family and pet friendly!
This review is from the point of view of a wedding vendor...not as a guest.
The staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. I was pleasantly surprised...most hotels won't let you come back for your rental items the next day but they did! They even told me to leave the boxes for my vases so that they can put it away safely for me! Impressive! This makes me happy and a happy florists is always great for your wedding!
The ballrooms are clean and doesn't have an old water stench that some hotels have. Fresh flowers in the lobby is always nice and they always have iced lemon and orange water for the guests or who ever is thirsty.
They even validated my parking so I don't have to pay for them! I'm lovin' this place!!!!
Yeah...I don't get the name Laguna Cliff's when they're in Dana Point...weird.

As queen of illegal parking.. save a few $ and park on the street (even tho it says not to for hotelers) for a few hours.
The hotel is nicely laid out but it's expansive. I was there for a wedding and running around the place wearing heels was no bueno. Eventually the shoes come off and then you realize, no one notices you are walking barefoot everywhere - especially when wearing a sari.

I was a tad bit upset about not having an ocean-view room, although we did check in at 3am and probably got the last room choice.
I can't remember what the valet parking cost, but it was something outrageous.
At 4am, we entered our ocean-viewless room.
It was beautiful- enormous pillowy bed, balcony over the golf course, serene.
My drunken husband noticed my disappointment and stormed out of the room, claiming "If my wife wants to see the ocean, she's GOING.. TO SEE.. THE OCEAN." *door slam*
10 seconds later I heard, BOOoooooooooom! Thud.
(roll eyes)
On his way to the concierge, 5 feet from our room, my sweetheart had walked into the hallway wall... then turned around, knocked on the door, I let him in, he fell on the bed and passed out.
Ohhh, snugglebuns!
Breakfast in bed was the best I've had at any hotel establishment, anywhere.

This hotel is beautifully located over looking the ocean and Dana Point Marina. They have two swimming pools which have excellent views. I have been fortunate enough to stay here once and I completely felt spoiled the entired stay! The rooms were gorgeous. The bedding was very prestine. They gave us bath robes to enjoy.
We had a balcony view room and it was so nice to sit and feel the breeze of the ocean.
This is definitely the place to celebrate a nice romantic weekend or special occassion! I can't wait to go back again, even though it is about 10 minutes from my home!

Wow! My 100th review! I can't believe it! I need to review something special! So, I've chosen a place near and dear to my heart: Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort and Spa in Dana Point. This is where I got married. So, before I begin this review I should note that I'm probably a little biased for this reason.
When my husband and I were looking for a place to get married, we knew we wanted to be near the ocean. We looked at the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, which was gorgeous, but scary. There was no telling just how much money we would have spent in the end. So, we went to Laguna Cliffs.
There it was: A beautiful Cape Cod style resort perched on a hill, overlooking the ocean. They offered wedding packages. Hey - more bang for our buck! Yay!
The staff at Laguna Cliffs is so nice and helpful! We were always treated well there, especially the night before my wedding when I arrived to my room to find a tray of chocolate chip cookies and a glass container of milk waiting for me!
The rooms are also so very comfortable! The beds are plush and make you not want to leave them! The bathrooms are luxurious. The rooms are well appointed and make you feel like you're on vacation.
The food is good too! That was one of the most important things to me about my wedding. I wanted good food. On our wedding day, the catering manager surprised us by including sushi as part of our menu. He knew we love sushi, and added it as a little gift to us. Our guests (even the foodies) raved about the food. Weddings aside, if you eat at Laguna Cliffs, I highly recommend the garlic fries. They are something I still crave!
We've been back to Laguna Cliffs many times since. Each time we have been treated very well and have enjoyed the resort. The grounds are relaxing and beautiful to walk around. There is also Lantern Bay Park that fronts the hotel. I did yoga there on my wedding day. All in all, it's a very pleasant place to be, regardless of whether you're getting married or not.

We had a great lunch at VUE. This service is great and ground is beautiful. It is so close to the harbour. and you can walk to the nearby park after the lunch. Price is not too bad for a property location like this. You are really appreciate the So Cal living at its best. Nothing is better than a lazy Sunday brunch like this.
The exterior of this place reminds me of Shutter's in Santa Monica. The service of this place reminds me of McDonald's. Luckily the spa (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) is a different beast.
I didn't stay at this hotel so I can't comment on the rooms or room service. But here are my comments on everything else:
Valet
Seriously. Open door, take keys, park car, retrieve keys, retrieve car and smile. Is it that difficult? Two out of the 3 times we had to deal with valet it was mess and my friends and I were the only ones waiting for a car, which was in eye shot no less. The third time seem to bring out the valet manager as he offered us water for the drives home and was very nice.
Lobby Bar Waitress
She must have been stoned.
Pool Attendant
In all fairness, I don't think the guy who waited on us was a "pool attendant" per se. He was just a room service attendant sent over by the spa staff to wait on us at the pool. (We were the only getting' rays poolside at the time.) Having said that, the boy came unprepared with no menus and when we asked him what champagnes the bar had it was if we had asked him for the cure to cancer. I think he started sweatin'?
Interior
The lobby area was standard. However I had a look at the hallways and they reminded me of a Courtyard Marriott, not a Marriott Resort. A lot of the plants on the outside had the same feel.
Grounds
I'll end this review giving the resort a big thumbs up for location and exterior feel. Aside from the dead flowers sprinkled around the resort, the hotel looked beachy nice and the pool area and greens overlooking the ocean were top notch. We saw plenty of couples checking out the hotel for a wedding ceremony/reception.

I skipped out of work on Friday afternoon and rolled down here with the hopes that the pool would be semi-decent and I could stretch out on a chaise lounge and read a book.
It was. AND it overlooked a very pristine Pacific. Excellent.
Not a bad hotel at all. The exterior is sort of California, sort of Cape Cod. They find some happy medium. The lobby was light and airy and it kind of put me in vacation mode, despite the fact I was only staying for one night to go to a wedding nearby. LOVED the pitcher of water infused with strawberries and mint.
The pool area was nice and uncrowded, which I appreciated. The rooms were fine as well. Nothing amazing and spectacular, but nothing terrible. The furniture was a little worn and stained, but the bathroom was big and the bed was comfortable.
I didn't deal with valet park because self-park was in the same building and it was less time to retrieve my own car. This is despite the scores and scores of valet dudes standing around looking increasingly pointless. They drove like lunatics. I have a new car. Valet wasn't happening.
I'd come back. Dana Point is cute and beachy and when I drive up PCH, I feel moderately trendy.

Paul and I stayed here for the one year anniversary of our first date! (Awwwww...) I had called ahead of time and asked for a room with an ocean view. They promised me that they would do our very best to accommodate us and they did! We had a gorgeous room with this lovely little balcony that overlooked the harbor. The room was pretty big, and it was spotless! We found the service to be spectacular...we wanted to try and get a last minute reservation at a restaurant in Newport Beach for the Festival of Lights and the concierge called about a dozen places for us. We also loved how the grounds have a walking path and a nice picnic/park area.
The location is great...walking distance to the harbor and to restaurants as long as you don't mind hiking up and down a pretty big hill! It is really easy to get to from the freeway and if you want to drive up the coast it is an easy starting point.
We loved it here....hope to go back sometime soon!

This place is amazing.....My husband and I got married here, and everything was just perfect.
Their staff is so helpful, and did everything! I didn't have to worry about a thing.
The location is beautiful. It overlooks the ocean and their is a park right in front of it.
Food....so good....enough said
Their spa is nice. The salon is contracted out to an outside company, but they did a good job when I got a manicure and pedicure. The massage I got good.
The rooms are wonderful. They have the most comfy beds in the whole world. haha The views are nice, and you can just settle in for a good nights rest.
There are so organized when it comes to planning events. I could not of asked for a better place to have gotten married. They are very accommodating, and wonderful. I cannot say enough good things!
This is a really nice Marriott. The best thing about it is the location. It's right across the street from the Dana Point Marina. You can literally walk across the street and go swimming.
The room was clean and had a great view of the ocean. It was well decorated and the bed was very comfortable. It really is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location.
This is the type of place to stay if you're looking for a weekend getaway.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night last week (Tuesday-Wednesday) for our Anniversary. After researching their property online, we both had high hopes for not only a romantic get away but also possibly as a prospective wedding spot. After our short trip visiting the Laguna Cliffs, we will not be returning.
Don't get me wrong, the exterior and lobby were nice. The grounds were well manicured and the design itself had a great East Coast Hamptons feel. You can't beat the location overlooking the water. The check-in, bell-staff, and concierge were attentive, as well. However it was our room that disappointed us.
We stayed in an ocean-front room on the Laguna wing. First thing I noticed was that the room itself was tiny. I really felt like it was too small to be relaxing. View was acceptable... not great but technically, yes, we could see the ocean. Decor can be described as "beachy charm" but everything seemed dusty/dingy and the draperies were stained with an unknown substance. Bed was hard as a rock! Usually, I have pretty good luck with Marriott mattresses but even my boyfriend woke up with a sore lower back. The absolute worst part was that the walls were paper-thin so I could actually hear the guests upstairs peeing. I noticed it before we went to sleep so even though simultaneously disgusting, I thought that it wouldn't matter much once I was asleep anyhow. Until 6am rolls around and the woman upstairs decides to start getting some exercise by pacing around her tiled bathroom in what I can only imagine to be 4 inch stilettos. 20 minutes and 2 toilet flushes later, she gave her calves a break. Silence, thank god! 10 minutes pass by and I think I'm safe... until I'm thwarted by Mr. "I'm so F'ing important business man who feels its acceptable to talk at on his cell at the top of his lungs in the room corridor at 6:30am." I suppose it's not the hotel's fault but seriously?
I will probably not return for an overnight stay and will definitely not be wed here (or subject my friends and family to its accommodations). Boo... seemed so promising, too.

bright, spacious rooms with a real beachy feel. down comforters and pillows (big plus in my book). cool decks off of each room, mine happened to overlook the ocean. chill atmosphere, lots of places to sit with your honey and have a drink, or ten. also nice to sit with your co-workers and contemplate your next job move...as i did.
i'd go back for sure. still have no idea why it's called "Marriott Laguna Cliffs" when it's in Dana Point, but i'll let it slide.
My wife and I loved this Cape Cod-styled hotel. This could be possibly the most romantic location for a hotel only steps away from the beautiful beach. If I were to have my wedding at the beach, it would totally be at this location. The staff was friendly, the food was great... overall treatment was fantastic. Our stay exceeded our expectations. My only regret was that we didn't take any pictures and that we only stayed one night.

I have done a few weddings at this location, and each have been totally different styles. No matter what you are looking for they seem to have the location and ability to make your day what you want. Also, what a great location from a photographer's point of view. Amazing place to capture a wedding and be creative with my work. I would recommend this venue for a wedding any day.

This is a beautiful Cape Cod style hotel that is situated up on the bluffs overlooking the harbor and ocean. We were actually upgraded to the executive suite, which had amazing views. The room was decorated in blue and white and the bed was pretty comfortable. There are two pools on the property and the staff is very helpful and courteous. This was probably one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at simply because of the spectacular views and atmosphere, not to mention that everything at the hotel was first rate. The one thing I was amazed about was that they put strawberries in the ice water. If you go here, look for it in the lobby!

I LOVE this hotel. Its my most favorite place to stay if i'm staying within OC proper... where to begin? The customer service is excellent they're so friendly. The hotel beds are sumptuous and soft and they have these massively thick bedspreads that I looooove. They have waffle weave robes that are divine and the views from the rooms are just gorgeous. The hotel is located next to a park and at night there's like hundreds of bunny rabbits all over the hill eating its so cute. Not to mention the view is just wonderful overlooking the ocean. The pool is huge and the restaurant is superb. There simply isn't enough wonderful things I can say about this resort beyond... STAY HERE!

Gorgeous place. We had a fantastic stay here. Service is terrrific. Surprisingly laid back and casual, while providing upscale services.
