The other reviewers covered it fairly well - this is an okay place to have a drink or a bite, though well off the beaten path.

We stopped in while on the road between L.A. and Phoenix, because there's a place nearby where you can just pull off by the side of the road and pull geodes out of the ground.  Anyway, needed a place for lunch, and let's just say that in Palo Verde, your options are...limited.

We could have done much worse; food was solidly decent (the french fries were extra good), we definitely felt like outsiders, but then again, we were; people were certainly hospitable enough.  I wouldn't make a trip there just to go, but I also wouldn't hesitate to stop in again should I find myself out that way.

By the way, I had NO IDEA this was also a motel.  Probably because I'm not a serial killer.

Lagoon Saloon & Lodge... also affectionately known in my circle as the Lagoon Redneck Saloon & Sodomy Ranch. Oh yes kiddies, we're talking a knee-slappin' good 'ol time straight out of the likes of your standard motel-based horror flick. Don't believe me? Check out the pic, yo. I couldn't attempt to make shit this up, in fact, I'm immensely embarrassed to share with you that I've even been to a spot this, um, fabulous (insert sarcasm font here) but the ability to review it in the first place far outweighs my shame.

Why would I ever be here in the first place, you ask? Well, boating, naturally. Coming from a serious water sports family we boat all summer long and typically on the Colorado River, where nestled down between the Arizona and California border the sleepy farming town of Palo Verde lies with this haven literally being it's only option for overnight refuge. Lucky us. While we usually opt for camping or driving the 30 miles into Blythe where you can at least find a Hampton Suites, sometimes you just need a hot shower and a quick hunker down for the night and like it or not, Lagoon Saloon is your sole choice in PV.

Clean it is not. Modern it is not. Hospitable it also is not. An adventure though, it sure is!

This is one for the scrapbooks. The one where the caption reads, "the time I slept amongst cobwebs and dirty, scary, boogie things after unsuccessfully attempting to drink my fears away".

The one bright spot at The Lagoon is it does have a lively bar featuring many of Palo Verde's finest. Karaoke is on Tuesdays and Saturdays (can you do Blue Bayou, Sweet Cheeks?), drinks are dirt cheap and they also sell smokes, toiletries, produce and inner tubes for your fun-loving pleasure. Talk about convenient.

So now you're armed and ready with info aplenty in case you ever find yourself stuck in Palo Verde, CA and are in need of a fine place to stay. Love it or leave it, unpack at the Lagoon, cuz it's the only place you're gonna get.

Quick Tip: For those preferring more privacy, you can opt out of the standard motel room and go for the double wide trailer - also rented at a nightly rate - at the back of the property. Yeah, thought you'd like that.

So "classy" isn't how I would describe most places in Palo Verde. It's also not how I would describe the Lagoon Saloon.

I've been camping in the Palo Verde/Cibola area my entire life and in the past few years, visits to the Saloon have only added to this life experience.

The drinks are cheap, the crowd is entertaining (if not super social), the jukebox has everything you should ever want to hear at a dive bar and there is an AWESOME cover band that plays big weekends (Memorial, Labor day, etc.). Overall, if your campfire crowd isn't all that fun, head over to the Lagoon Saloon for some local culture and good times.
