If you are getting married soon, I highly reccommend you consider having your ceremony and reception at the Lafayette Park Hotel. I promise you will not be disappointed. I was married there on August 8, 2009 and it was the most perfect day--the venue was stunning, the staff was on top of it and the food was incredible. I have nothing but good things to say about the Lafayette Park Hotel.

Their spa is also pretty amazing... :-)

I should have reviewed this place a LONG time ago, as my stay here took place over three years ago. Tim, my now husband, took me here for the first anniversary of our first date (thank god I only have to worry about a wedding anniversary now).

Anyway, our stay was lovely. The room we were in was spacious, and had a great bathroom. They provided us with robes (always a nice luxury) and also set up a beautiful romantic display of champagne and strawberries (for a small fee, of course).

We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant in the hotel and it was definitely up to par with the whole establishment. Delicious food, solid cocktail & wine list, and excellent service. The price tag is what you would expect.

After dinner we also checked out the pool area. Unlike some hotels, it was open to a reasonable hour (ie - it doesn't close at 10pm) and we were able to enjoy our bubbly while soaking in the hot tub.

Definitely recommend this place for a romantic getaway or a delicious fine dining experience.

We had a lovely lunch  at the hotel today.  I had a delicious quiche and my husband had the most fragrant and satisfying french onion soup.  The efficient wait staff was super!  We felt well attended to and everyone we came in contact with had a wonderful energy.  We had not eaten there for quite awhile and am so glad we decided to drop in!  Try the chocolate mouse with fresh strawberries for dessert!

I didn't sleep here or anything. I just went to an event here. It was pricey to attend the networking event. I'm assuming from that if you want to rent a room out here for something be prepared to charge the attendees some $.

The hotel is beautiful. I'm not a big fan of French History or art but the place is full of it. They have an antique clock behind the registration area that is probably priceless.

There is a garden terrace in the center with a fountain that is very picturesque.

The food that was served at our event could have been better. It was Steak with Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes. They also had a Vegetarian Risotto which I wished I had known I had the choice because I don't like eating steak late.

The Steak at most of the settings at my table was raw and they were unable to cut it. Mine was fine I just couldn't eat all of it. I asked for a box to take the majority of my steak home to my husband and they said they didn't have anything like that. Yet, at the end I looked over at another table and someone had their steak put in a box to go. I was pissed. For $55 bucks for an event I want my steak!

Its beautiful there I must admit. They also have Valet Parking that you don't necessarily have to use there is a parking garage that I didn't know was there before.

I think I would get a room here just to see how the sleeping arrangements are.

What a a treat ! My Man & I decided to play hookie & take a mental day at spa. We opted to stay close & I found the jewel! The hotel is very elegant and very private. The spa was top notch. I had one of the best facial & massages in a very long time. My estitician Auera & masseuse Mary ann were every talented! We opted to order lunch by pool and enjoyed the serenity of the atmosphere. Make sure you take your bathing suit so you can enjoy the hot tub/pool before your treatments. I hope to go mack soon and try out the Duck restaurant ( I heard it great!)

I came here for a charity event sponsored by Las Trampas, an organization that helps people with special needs live happy, independent lives. This place is absolutely beautiful. Not the best I've seen but it's very pretty. There was a nice terrace where we hung out and drank and where the skewers and salads were. The event was catered and the food was pretty awesome. Some food our table enjoyed were the Saffron Rice, Ugandan Fish Stew, Beef Kabobs and the cheese platter. Staff was super friendly and thoughtful, taking away our many, many, MANY empty champagne glasses and cocktail glasses--LOL.

Final Verdict: I would love to come back and stay a night or two. With a mall a couple streets down, there's lots to do. The decor is ritzy and was staff was nice, the only thing stopping me? Probably the price!

It's a nice hotel, but I really don't like when hotels make you pay extra for everything.

I got in on Tuesday night, and had to wake up early for a long day of meetings & presentations on Wednesday.  I looked around my room and noticed something utterly preposterous.  There was no coffee!  No coffee, no coffee maker, no tea, no caffeine.  Then I noticed a card on the bed, which kindly informed me that they would bring a pot of coffee up to my room in the morning, for the low, low price of five dollars!  Um, yeah, I don't think so.  Caffeine is a standard courtesy that's complimentary in every self-respecting hotel in America.

I fired up my laptop, so I could ask Google maps to find me a nearby caffeine source.  Oh.  Lovely.  I have to pay a fee for internet access.  Seriously, who still charges for wireless at a hotel?  Thankfully, at least I found a nearby Starbucks, which would do me just fine for the next two mornings.  By the way, the hotel also had a breakfast delivery service.  Ordering a "continental" breakfast, consisting of a couple pastries, a glass of juice, and a cup of coffee would have cost about $16.

Then I decided that maybe I should eat dinner, what with being hungry and all.  The only nearby restaurants were actually part of the hotel.  One was outrageously expensive, and the other merely very expensive.  Damn this lack of alternatives!  I sure as hell wasn't going to touch the mini-bar; the stuff in there was priced like it had gold caviar truffles.

Bottom line:  when I'm shunning an establishment and instead going to Starbucks, they should be ashamed of themselves.

A hidden gem among a little East Bay city.

Both restaurants are very good.

The rooms are cozy and reminds me of a hotel in Europe. Some rooms even have fireplaces! Very romantic! The swimming pool/workout area/spa is superb.

The staff is also very professional and quick to please.

Stayed there 3 times so far and will defiantly do it again. Great for a local "stay-cation".

This is a great place to relax and get away for the weekend. The room was large and had a fireplace. It was wonderful to stay in and watch the rainy, wet weather outside.

This was my second stay. The first was about 5 years ago. The staff is very accommodating, friendly and efficient. They took care of some special requests I had without hesitation or question.

The room was quiet and comfortable. I usually have trouble with hotel pillows, but these were excellent. The bed was extra comfy too. I am happy to have this hotel close by for a weekend escape.

This review strives to be useful, but there's not a bit of funny or cool in it.  Sorry about that, my funny and cool juices are just not flowing today.

THE HOTEL
***1/2
The hotel is lovely, and there is a relaxing outdoor courtyard in the center of the hotel with a fountain and shaded tables and chairs.  The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
The room is very nice, but I had to remove a half star for not having in room hair dryer and coffee pot.  They do offer morning room service coffee for $5 a person.  The showers have good heat, water pressure and the wide shower head I love.  The bed was very, very comfortable.  The mini bar only had one of each of four types of beers for $5 each, which I though was a little odd.

THE BAR
****
Very friendly service, even though they close at 1am and we arrived just at last call.  The drinks are generous and well made.  The seating is comfortable and the tables are not too close together, so it feels intimate.  They allowed us to bring back a couple of beers to drink in our room or the courtyard.

THE BRUNCH
****
It starts with coffee or tea and your choice of champagne, sparkling cider or fresh squeezed juice.  Then you head to the cold appetizer buffet, loaded with delicious seafood, salads (including a wonderful sesame noodle), cheeses, fruit.  Nearly everything we tried here was above average.

You have a choice of 5 entrees, ranging from gourmet to traditional.  We both tried the eggs benedict.  As the server checked back with us shortly after they were delivered, he noticed that my husband's poached eggs were slightly overcooked and offered to replace it... no prompting from us.  He was extremely  knowledgeable and courteous.  We both enjoyed our entrees.

Then there is a dessert buffet, with all house made pastries and desserts.  We only had room to try a little, but the raspberry mousse and creme brulee were exquisite, really.  Save room.

The brunch is served at a leisurely pace, so make sure to allow time for it.
Sunday Brunch comes with some room packages, or is $39/person.  (Kid prices available)

Did not try the pool or the spa.

This review is for the Spa as my Hot Stone massage here was and is still one of the best I have ever had. It definitely set the standard for what a good Hot Stone massage should be like. I have also had wraps, facials, and other services here and have never been disappointed. If you are ever in the Lafayette area and want a good spa treatment, this is a great place to go!

I had a lovely day of pampering and relaxing with my friend Suzy at the spa here. We opted for the 1/2 day spa package which included a facial, body exfoliation, massage and lunch.

The spa is small, but nice. When you get services here, you are also given access to the fitness room, pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The locker room has 2 toilets (see my Nordstrom spa review for this one) and one shower, several lockers and all the Q-tips, cotton balls, and other bathroom needs you could need after your treatments.

My facial was lovely. Lots of creams and such slathered on and very little extractions. The massage was good-not the best I have had, but a nice one and lastly, the body salt scrub, which honestly I could have skipped. I can do the same thing to myself in the shower with stuff I get at Trader Joe's, but it was nice to have someone do it for me on my back (the man will but it is not as relaxing standing up).

The lunch was our choice of menu offerings from The Bistro restaurant and was served poolside like room service. Cloth napkins and those cute little Barbie sized Tabasco sauce bottles. Lunch in itself was only worth 2.5 stars, but considering where we were, I decided I ordered wrong.

The staff is incredibly friendly. I will definitely come back and someday would like to dine at the Duck Club.

We went there for our wedding night, and it was just wonderful. The hotel is just beautiful. We got the breakfast package. We has a deluxe king, chocolate covered strawberries, and house champagne. Breakfast was delivered in the morning along with Wall Street Journal.
We were on the third floor overlooking the European style courtyard. The faux balcony windows opened to the courtyard. Ahhh... Free robes in room.
This was place was great. All this for 221 after tax. We are going to go back and do a stay-cation and get massages and try their award winning brunch.

After a long exhausting search for a wedding venue, we knew we had found our place when we walked up the driveway and looked through those glass doors into the courtyard.  The hotel itself is beautiful.  Simple yet elegant - my kind of style.  What made us feel at home was the fact that every staff member, from the doorman, to the receptionists all gave us genuine welcomes.  Very friendly.

We chose a package that included setting up the Fountain Courtyard for the ceremony, beverage and Hors D' Oeuvres service, wine and champagne, Three Course Sit-Down Dinner, and a suite for the night.  We couldn't have asked for more.  But we got a lot more!

On the day of the ceremony, our coordinator organized everything for us, including helping us with the processional line up and coordinating the music with the DJ.  After the ceremony, we were surprised with strawberries and champagne in the Library dining room - which is where the bridal party gathered before heading up to the smaller Wishing Well Garden for pictures.  Cocktail hour (which we missed) had waiters serving up platters of Hors D' Oeuvres, and there was a table with wine and champagne.  Dinner and the service was wonderful.  We had the larger of the two ballrooms for 120+ people, with enough room for a small dance floor.

After dinner and lots of dancing, a large group of us headed up to the suite, which was in one of the corners of an upper floor of the hotel.  No other guests were staying near us - smart move, because we partied until 3:30am.  To our delight when we walked into the suite, there were sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, more champagne, and a very lovely note from our coordinator - congratulating us as Mr. and Mrs.   All the wedding gifts were neatly stacked in one corner of the living room area.

Most of the time I always say you get what you pay for, but in this case we came away with so much more.  Many details that weren't even listed in our package that just make this hotel stand out and made our wedding a huge success and memorable.

For our one year anniversary, we were invited back to the hotel for a one night stay, including dinner at the Duck Club.  We were shocked.  Of course we took them up on the offer.  We were welcomed with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and an anniversary card from the staff.  Unfortunately, our coordinator was no longer working there, so we didn't get a chance to see her.

Our dream wedding, completely worry free and full of surprises.  Back then, the hotel didn't have the spa built yet, so now there are even more amenities to enjoy there.  Best time to visit is during Christmas at night when the hotel is decorated.

Had mother's day brunch here. Very, very good. Everything was delicious. The fruit was really good, with really good chocolate covered straberries. The desserts were really good as well.

The hotel is very nice, very elegant. The service was great.

Overall, very nice experience!

I went there for my wedding night and was soooo mad to find that after we checked in my credit card was charged 3 times...I was soo mad when i called and talked with them they acted as if it wasnt a big deal that this had happened. I had to cancel my card on my honey moon and was very disappointed on the way i was treated. This place also has a snobby rude staff and i wouldnt recommend anyone go there!!!

Everyone needs a spa day!  I went here with a few friends, it was really nice but small. One shower, so it was hard for us 3 to get ready, had to wait out turn to take a shower. The Sauna and Pool is shared with hotel guest. So not really spa like to me..

When I got my massage the room was bright. I am use to dim lighting and candles. Massage was great. I really enjoy all the extra's most spa's have to offer. This place was nice but not a place I would want to go back to.

Totally recommend it for anyone who plans to stay at the hotel though.

We could not have picked a better location for our wedding! It was beautiful. My bridesmaids and I had a great time getting ready for the wedding in one of their suites. We were able to use the hotel's beautiful scenery to take our pictures, such as the lobby, courtyard and wishing-well, and they turned out wonderfully. It was so nice to have the courtyard to for a cocktail hour before the reception. The ballroom looked beautiful...everything from the linens to the centerpieces was perfect. The hotel offered a wide variety of menu options. We chose the chicken and fish, and it was delicious! The catering and banquet staff were very helpful. All of our special requests were met, and everything flowed smoothly. We would recommend the Lafayette Park Hotel to any bride and groom. Our guests are still raving about our wedding!

Kudos to Jan Douglas and her awesome staff and support team for being able to accomodate a wedding of 80 people on 2 days notice!!!!

I am a professional event planner and one of the elements of this job is to know who you can count on to find what you need when you need it in a pinch.  I was contracted to plan a wedding for a client and she had previously chosen a location near her home, which she thought that would really accentuate her 1920's style of wedding.

She had been scheduled to hold her wedding at an old Victorian style club and due to poor management on their part, they had neglected to give her an estimate including food until one week before the wedding.  But due to misunderstandings on both parts, the club president grossly offended her and her fiance.

The couple called me Tuesday and said they were considering changing the venue.  We decided to talk about it again in the morning but I told them I'd see what I can do.  I called the Lafayette Park Hotel when I found nothing suitable in the Berkeley/Oakland area, and having worked there, I knew they had impeccable service, and that if they had space, it would be beautiful.

I spoke to Felicia and within the hour, we were walking around the hotel looking at the space.  By 8pm, the couple had come in, toured the place, and signed the papers and paid the entire bill.

I tried to find something that would evoke the spirit of what she wanted to capture, and even though we did not have as much space as we would have liked, we were able to accomodate the ceremony, a string trio, a pianist, and a bar on the patio courtyard, and then 9 tables, a 7 piece band, 3 casino tables, and a chocolate fountain in the ballroom, which was all in black and white:

black damask over white tablecloths, sheer white voile with black sashes on the chairs, the centerpieces are silver candelabras turned into plant stands of varying heights on each table with cascading white flower bouquets standing on round mirrors, little votives around the table, silver ball chargers and white plates with a thin silver band, and all of the glassware had a silvery etching accross the top.  The napkin was pulled through a little pearl napkin ring across the plate.

And the physical beauty of the LPH is the architecture to resemble a French chateau, with a beautiful brick courtyard and stately fountain, well maintained plants and vines, everything polished and spotless, wrought iron furniture around all of the outdoor areas, the antiques throughout the hotel; it all shows love and commitment to the guest.

Jan, who is the director of catering and sales, and I worked out the details of the food and the placement of everything, and the entire evening went magically, including Abraham's quick staff in bringing an extra table to accomodate the unexpected guests who showed up.

If you want the absolute best service, and want the peace of mind that comes from knowing that they will do everything possible to make sure that your event is perfect, this is the place to go.

Remember when you got your drivers permit and your parents went out of town? Awehaa, well maybe it was just me, but right before my brother locked me out of the garage and ruined the rest of my sophomore year of high school, the driving without supervision went phenomenally. Luckily no one got hurt and I almost made it into the garage until it was locked from the inside and I couldn't get the family sadan back in it's spot before my parents got home.  Hmmm... besides the inevitable grounding and chores I incurred, the memories might just be worth it.

Growing up in Lafayette there was no need to rent a hotel room (nor was there anything to do) at this lovely hotel, but there was reason to utilize the spa and pool. I picked up a couple of my lady friends and we went straight to the hotel's pool. It became our secret hang out for that summer. We always seemed to be the only ones there and it was like our own private pool.

Now in my later years, it has become a place I like to visit for it's spa treatments and Sunday Brunches at the Duck Club. And the occasional bar scene at the Duck Club.

I've been to many events here from weddings to birthday parties in the lavish courtyard and ballrooms inside, all very beautiful and great service. The hotels all around accommodations are simple yet elegant.

So, from my first memories to now, the Lafayette Park has always been number one in my book. From sneaking into the pool to now, paying for the relaxing Spa, I've come a long way, but the good old Park is always the same.

I stayed here for a quick 1-night  getaway on New Year's.  I have stayed one other time many years ago.  Upon arrival we learned that the room we reserved was actually not available.  So we were given an ultra low rate  and a standard room.  The standard room was slightly nicer then a hilton  or embassy suites.  In fact, just recently I stayed at an embassy suites in S. CA that was definitely nicer.

So anyway, I expected it to be busy but I didn't expect to have to see and hear (what seemed like) every high school senior in Lamorinda throwing a party in their room. But hey, it's New Year's so what can I expect right?  What I really was looking for was  a getaway, romantic sort of vibe.   Unfortunately the Lafayette Park Hotel didn't deliver.  It wasn't horrible, just disappointingly mediocre and average.

I rate this spa average.  I will definitely go back because there are limited options that are near where I live, have a somewhat luxurious atmosphere, and I can get an appointment at the last minute.

With that said I had a decent massage.  The facilities were also decent.  A sun garden that needed cleaning...a couple of ants crawled on me when I was sitting outside reading a magazine.  The treatment rooms were very nice, although the locker room is extremely small and cramped.  It is well decorated and furnished, however, much nicer the Changes Salon and Day Spa in Walnut Creek with the prices being similar.

Compared to what I rate a 5 star spa, it is only a 3 star spa, but I still enjoyed my experience.

PS Free valet!

I had cocktails with my friends at the Bistro the other night and I must say I was impressed. The drinks were nice and strong and the atmosphere very cozy. Yes, the average age of patrons was 60+, but for some reason it didn't make the place stuffy at all. If you need a place to have drinks and you are nowhere near the city...this is a decent place to go.
you can also snack on some killer french fries (a big basket for 3 bucks!!!) and a pretty well done cheese plate.
I would come here again.

The room is breath_taking! Spacious and large; I love the elegant bathroom. The bathroom has a table mirror with a light, Kohler shower head, comfort height commode. They have a little bar area with a mini fridge. Wider 'hallways' inside the room (come to think of it, outside the room as well)

Clean, soft white sheets/pillows, office area is large so I can do work without feeling cluttered.
I saw people with their kids so it is a nice hotel to stay if you have children. They can enjoy the pool area with you.

Great workout rooms with water and towels provided/ very upscale with a pool side view. Our room was on the third floor, same as the pool/spa/workout so that was nice. Next to the pool is the outdoor fireplace that is lit every night. Nice touch.

I enjoyed the hotel and the desk provided me restaurant information and directions. They are very nice and professional. I was not impress with the little bistro there. I ate there at night (checked-in late) and I ate there again in the afternoon the following day. The service there was also not impressive but the outdoor seating is cute with a great view as you enjoy the nice California weather.

I would stay here again. Walnut Creek is only a few minutes away and that is a great place to walk around and check out.
We stayed at this hotel for business and were looking into moving to the Bay Area. It was also nice to head into San Francisco in less than an hour. Traffic to the city was not so bad; traffic is traffic.
We stayed here for business in October 07 but I would stay here again if I was on vacation.
Hope you guys stay, it is a very nice place for the price.

I've stayed at the Lafayette Park Hotel twice now.   Our first stay here was on my wedding night.   We got in at about 3:30 AM, my wife still in her wedding gown.   We crashed almost immediately and woke up the next morning, showered, and ran off to send our wedding guests on their merry way.   In other words, we really didn't see much of the place other than the bed.

For our first anniversary, I thought I'd surprise my wife and book a hotel room at same hotel.   This time, we checked in around 4 PM and we had plenty of time to check out the amenities.   The pool on the 3rd floor is beautiful, albeit small, especially if it's a bit crowded, which was the case when we went there.   The bartender was friendly enough and chatted lazily with us as he poured us a couple of beers.

The bedroom was nice and comfortable enough.  We ended up getting room service from the Duck Club downstairs.   They claim Best Martini but... I dunno... not so much.   While some of the dishes we ordered were excellent, others were just so-so.

All in all, I don't think this place is worth the price nor the attitude.   The front desk certainly dishes plenty of it, but there simply isn't the service or quality that one would expect to match the smug self-important air of grandiosity that they convey.

Sweetheart, for our 2nd Anniversary, I'd much rather we get ourselves a nice hotel in the Napa Valley, ok?

*kitty's tip* -.The hotel offers great spa packages as well...so why not indulge yourself for a weekend get-a-away to full out experience a mini vacation so close to home!

Five stars goes to the amazing spa at LPH.  Intimate, and romantic, nestled between a hidden deck of the 3rd and 4th floor, complete with a hot tub, sauna, pool and fitness center, full access to all amenities AND valet parking when receiving treatment at the spa, friendly staff and the best massages, request Melissa Tomlinson, she's incredible!  Enjoy.

As a treat for winning a quarterly award, my Manager brought us here last month to get pampered with a massage. We went on a Tuesday, so I don't know if it gets crowded here on the weekends. During our outing, we had the pool, jacuzzi, and sauna all to ourselves, so it was really nice! The massage I got was excellent, too bad I can't remember the name of my masseuse. However, I didn't like the fact that she was talking to me during my massage. I like being left alone to relax when getting a massage. The day spa is small but for a local, low-key escape, this place is great! The spa also seems to have everything you would need for the shower and after the shower, even disposable razors and combs.

I can't speak about the hotel itself or the restaurant because we just use the spa for the day.

Our fabulous, sumptuous, elegant wedding was made possible by the staff at the Lafayette Park Hotel.  Our guests can not stop raving about the fantastic food, beautiful decor, and oustanding service.

If you are thinking of getting married - check out this place.  Our ceremony was held in the Fountain Courtyard followed by a 3-course sit down dinner (including gigantic filet mignon and grilled salmon) in the Independence Ballroom.  This was not typical hotel wedding food - it was more like dinner from one of the best restaurants in town.  The table settings, candles, gorgeous carpet, beautiful linens and the softly lit chandeliers were the perfect backdrop to the amazing food.

Our wedding package included a full bar for 3 hours, appetizers during cocktail hour (the lamb loin and baby beef wellington rocked!), on-site wedding day coordinator, bridal suite for the night of our wedding (complete with champagne and strawberries), and breakfast in bed the following morning.

The packages are quite reasonable - and the food is incredible.  The hotel is gorgeous and our pictures are going to be so beautiful.  The hotel is the perfect blend of elegance, European ambiance, and an intimate vibe that leaves everyone feeling very well taken care of.

I can't say enough about our wedding day - it was absolutely perfect, and all of our guests think we actually spent twice what it actually cost.  Many of our guests have told us this was the best wedding they have ever attended!

I stayed in Lafayette Park Hotel for two nights in September 2006. The hotel is beautiful and the restaurants are superb. However, the  linens in one of the beds were dirty and stinky. As we complaint the following morning they did not apologize, they sent someone to change the bed. After visiting other 5 star hotels in NY, Paris, London, Madrid and Vienna, I know this hotel does not follow the standard. I have stayed in Embassy Suites in Walnut Creek, and it is very clean. That is the hotel I recommend for family and friends visiting town.

I just booked our second company retreat there in a year - we're a 5 person company, so their board rooms are great for meeting that size.  The hotel is beautiful, the service has been really exceptional both times, the pool and restaurant are nice to have on hand.  I really cannot say enough good things about them.
