I have quite the sweet tooth.

After devouring their mille crepes at several different restaurants around the city, I had to get a whole mille crepe cake.  I would give this place 5 stars if it weren't so expensive.  But this is one of the best chic bakeries in New York City.  My co-worker who had a vacation home in France said that this place is up to par with a true French bakery.  May be with the weak dollar it is a true French bakery with their prices being so high.  It will not deter me from getting a mille crepe though, it is just that good.

A cute airy boutique in the upper west side, they have the famed Mille Crepe.  One of the employees here (European girl) can be a bit snotty, especially when she learned I was ONLY buying 2 slices of cake to go.  So what did I do, I returned the next day and showed her up by buy over $100 worth of cake!  Take that you snooty cake lady!

Mille Crepe cake - you'd think it'd be heavy and overly rich with all the layers of cream, but it's surprisingly light and airy.  I could probably eat an entire cake and not feel full.  Just the right amount of sweetness too.  Good, but not mind blowing.  I would definitely come back for it though;

Chestnust Mille Crepe cake - a seasonal variation of the Mille Crepe cake, I think this is actually better than the original;

Strawberry Shortcake - light and creamy, nothing too out of the ordinary;

Green tea mousse cake - this mousse cake resembles more of a cake and less of mousse, and actually tastes like green tea.  I found myself enjoying this more than I expected

Good spot, prepare to drop some dough.

Walked into this cute little chic bakery after a long day at work.  Boy did this cheer up my mood!  Cindy C and I walked down the aisle of beautifully crafted works of baked goods.  Don't be fooled when the baked goods are not out on display... the Mille Crepe was actually being served from the back.

Mille Crepe... the thousand layered thinness with light and creamy vanilla goodness ... yes! this is perfection!  We did end up finishing this within a couple of minutes and decided to head on out to dinner.  (we do this a lot for some reason)

I would like to try the other cakes ... definitely coming back here again.

This is a must visit place so the wife and I had to definitely visit.  Ordered two slices of Mille Crepe with hot chocolate.  This dessert was extraordinary.  Other than it being a bit pricey... this place is worth it.

THANKS YELP for letting me know ahead of time that this was going to be one expensive slice of mille crepe. Wow, $7.50 for a slice, and $18 for a glass of bubbly? SERIOUSLY?

thank god for the warnings ahead of time, otherwise, I'm pretty sure I would have suffered of a heart attack right there and then. So, price shockers asisde.....

The cakes were delicate and wonderfully made (and displayed) I love the atmosphere of the shop, classy yet, very simple. The cake Chris C and i  tried was the famous mille crepe, which, was good, but not as amazing as the price tag (ok, can't get over that!) It was a good balance between sweet and creamy, very light, and i didn't feel completely stuffed afterwards - unlike other "cake" desserts, it wasn't overly filling.

However, I found the service to be lacking - very cold, the waitress looked at me like I was a little bug or something. *shudders* perhaps it has something to do with the fact that 18% gratuity is automatically included so they don't need to smile. -2 stars for poor service and price. Guess the cake wasn't good enough to bump it up.

Lady M's crepes cake is the best!!! it's not too sweet or too cramy - just perfect!!

I went there this afternoon with a friend. She ordered a cake with strawberries ( i cant remember the name). i was good also. we both had Lady M special tea to go with our desserts.

Minus 1 star because I couldn't stand the waitress. I mean with those attitude i felt like i begged them for free food or something. It was even too scared to order and asked her anything...bad bad bad!!! it would be a perfect afternoon for me without those witches!!

Are you a lady who lunches? Then this is the place for you. Overpriced desserts served on fine china and with silver cutlery? Some overpriced bubbly with your sweets? Meh.

Yes, what you get will be tasty. Yes, the setting fits the "boutique" this place professes to be. And yes, the crepe cake is famous. But I could also make the whole damn cake at home for what I'd pay for one slice here, and that's good enough for me.

Tip: If you want to get the crepe cake with just a touch less pretension (well...not really, but at least you'll get some steak to go with your dessert, and relatively speaking, it won't cost you all that much more), go to Megu during Restaurant Week.

As a cake lover, when something is tauted as being something akin to an "artist's artist" of the cake world, then it better live up to it.

The "Signature" Lady M Crepe cake.... which has many many folks right here on Yelp to stand by it... was nevertheless vetoed by the 20 of us who had it today. ONE person said it was exceptional. The rest agreed that it was the "least tasty or inspiring" cake we've had all year, and we have cake events once a month.

So the cake is OK. No better ...it just barely reaches OK. (Think 'Cool Whip,' but a little less flavorful.) And it costs the same as TWO cakes. ....so only because it gets point for being an original style of cake, it reaches...and just barely reaches... 2 stars.

Lady M holds a piece of my heart when I used to lunch here after school with my friends. This was "our secret place" where we would go to catch up on our lives and gossip. The decor is very chic; the very presence of the boutique draws you in.

The desserts are mind-blowing. My personal favorite is the chocolate cake with the white chocolate shavings on top. The signature crepes cake, though? Not so much. I wouldn't even say it's OK, because it's very bland and it tastes like Chinese sponge cake to me. I would not recommend it at all. The other desserts, eat away! :)

It is a little over priced, but it's a great place to relax with tea and a good slice of delicious cake.

From the outside, this place does look quite intriguing with its all white decor and beautiful glass case display of delicious looking pastries...
but uhm, pretentious much? this place has more rules and restrictions than the friggin airport..NO PHOTOGRAPHS / DO NOT PUT YOUR BELONGINGS ON COUNTER / NO SEATING FOR MORE THAN 45 MINUTES / DO NOT TOUCH DISPLAY / 18% GRATUITY ADDED TO ALL BILLS...We had a better time poking fun at all these signs around us than eating their famous mille crepe. It didn't taste bad, but it certainly wasn't anything to rave about. And the banana mille feuille that my bf ordered? Bland and mushy.
If I'm ever feeling ultra-optimistic maybe I'll go back and try something else from the menu. But then again, even at my peak I wouldn't be willing to shell out 7 bucks for an iced latte...

The cakes are awesome... I tried the following:

coconut crepe - check delicious
cheesecake - check delicious
strawberry shortcake - check delicious
checker cake - check delicious

Yes, I think it is pricey... but if you don't mind paying more for awesome taste... that is the place for you...

I won't give 5 stars because I thought the staff was a little bit snob and not so friendly to our party of 7... She even made a rude comment that I now can't recall...

Go there, get your cakes take it to Central Park and enjoy yourself!

The cake bourique is so simple and elegant. Surprised that the ownwer is Japanese.
The crepe cake is a must must must, what a sensantional piece! The proportion of cream and layers are nicely balanced. Too bad that they don't sell green tea flavor in the boutique (wholesale only). I first had green tea in Megu for dessert and came all the way to here for the same, but they are not for retail....  I also had chocolate cake, it is not as tender and could be sweeter, taste like it has been sitting in the fridge for a while, although the surface is just slightly harader, it's very noticable.

Lady M is my sanctuary.  When I lived in NYC I'd come every Sunday morning and order tea as well as one of my favorite cake slices, a toss up between the layered crepe cake & the chocolate checkered cake, and I would just relax and read a magazine while taking in the peaceful white ambience within and the passersby outside.  I come here every time I visit New York and can't imagine what my life would be like without it.  On hot summer days I'd drop by and pick up one of their delicious ready made ham & cheese sandwiches on fresh baguette and take it to Central Park with me.

Lady M's creations are a work of art, both from a flavor stand point as well as an actual art piece.  Pricey, but hey, it's on the UES and it's very well worth it.  I hope you try it and love it too.

Things here used to be a little more affordable -- when I'd seek spiritual solace after leaving Hermes, depressed over a $700 pair of sneakers or a $2000 sweatshirt and how I'd never be the proud owner of either, I'd come here and enjoy a $12 glass of champagne and an $8 sandwich -- but now that kicks at Capital H costs upward of $1000 and a hoodie runs around $3000, I guess the now $18 glass of bubbly and the $10 sammy provides about the same amount of comfort caused by incomprehensible inflation during a relentless recession... The location and space are beautiful, the service is incredibly friendly and relaxed, and, of course, the desserts border on mind-blowing.

It's all about the Lady M Mille Crepe Cake.

It's pricey (I think an entire cake is $70), but delicious.  They treat the store like a high end boutique.  This is only fitting because it's located just off of the Madison Ave ritzy shopping district.  The store is located on E 78th St, just east of the NE corner with Madison Ave.

I've been a fan of their crepe layered cake since it was being sold in the basement off 5th Ave's Takashimaya.

Although Lady M is Japanese-owned, it doesn't exist in Japan.

There are certain locations through out the city that also serve Lady M Mille Crepe cakes in the green tea flavor (Zutto in Tribeca) and Donburiya (in Midtown East).  Sushi of Gari served it too, but I forget what flavor it was.

Of all their cakes, the Mille Crepes is the best.

Went back recently....

I had the flour less chocolate cake which was rich and very good. As always, the decor sparkled like a gem.

This may sound incredibly pretentious but Lady M is not a place that is bothering to cater to your average Yelper. It's off Madison avenue on 78th st. , hardly the kind of area that gives a lick about the cultural proclivities of your mid to late 20's limited budget internet reviewer. I guess it's expensive but then again this is the same avenue where Ive paid 24 dollars for a lamb sandwich at Eli's and 35 bucks for a plate of pasta at Nello. I think the overpriced complaint regarding Lady M is highly amusing considering the economics of the situation is literally beating you over the head like a club as you waddle up Maddison from the 60's through the 80's! What were you expecting, walmart prices at a "cake boutique" located off Madison on 78th st? LOL. Rant over!

Oh Please. Give me a break! Mille Crepe? For 70 dollars? What is so special about it. Crepes and creme in between? A lot of labor? It takes my wife about 1 hour to make twice as many crepes. And it tastes better.
I will give you a recipe:
Enough crepes for two cakes - 7$ (organic milk and organic eggs).
I lbs of good red caviar - $29.99
I bottle of Hennessy Privilege - $36.99.
Spread a thing layer of good butter and red caviar in between crepes.
Taste - priceless!
Lady M my butt.

I had the chocolate and rasberry tart with a glass of Moet. And also tried the banana puff thing, the chocolatey chocolate chocolate cake, and that (20!) layer crepe cake. ....not all at once, though.

I enjoyed my tart, but it certainly didn't blow me away. (apparently I'm hard to be blown away by fancy cake places) .... I liked the banana puff thing the best. The chocolately chocolate chocolate cake (not it's proper name, but what do I care? it was a lot of chocolate and that's really all that matters.) ....but it was decent. I'm not big on tons of chocolate and let me be honest, I really don't like cake period.

(it was my friends birthday, that's why I was there!)

that's also why I went with the tart. ....the famous layer-y cake was pretty good, but again, not really my thing. (apparently I have yet to figure out exactly what my "thing" is, but when I find it, i'll let you know.)

3 stars bc a good piece of cake or pie or dessert of any kind will always leaving me wanting more. And none of their cakes did that for me.

Plus, we got yelled at for taking photos..... SORRY. and the place is SUPER cramped. we had like 7 or 8 of us and it just didn't work. we were totally split up and it was awkward with the waitresses walking bn our tables while we were trying to have conversation. I did not like it.

So, BAMN. 3 stars for Lady M.

i've been pretty iffy about coming to lady m. the boutique looks very pretentious and intimidating, but the service turned out to be quite nice. the prices are so hefty which probably would lead me to come back again only in my most desperate and darkest hours of crepe craze. hence, the three stars.

in this time of recession and frugal spending, i could only afford... i mean i would only allow myself to buy one slice of the lady m mille crepes. it was probably the thinnest slice of cake i've ever purchased (a 3" slice for $7.50). yikes! drum roll please... location: $2, packaging: $2, over 15 layers of light, fluffy, cream-filled goodness: worth every penny with a walk in the park on a beautiful, breezy day.

Pricey, pricey aaaaannndd pricey.  I was wondering if a re-incarnated Marie Antoinette would come and yell out "Let them eat cake!"  This place is quite posh.

I had no idea what the pricing was since the first time I partook in the fancy cakes, I didn't pay nor did I look at a menu.  Despite that, this 2nd go around was a much better experience.

The Crepe Mille (signature and what they're known for) was much better this time.  The cream filling was light like last time (which I liked) but the top layer had this vanilla, creme brulee taste on top.  It was the crackle without being crackled.  THAT was divine!

My friend ordered this roasted almond cake which she loved. I'm not big on nuts so while it was tasty, it wasn't my cup of tea.

I still have yet to taste those chocolate tortes.  They look so decadent but for $7.50 a pop, I can curb my lustful longings for a slice and keep off the extra calories.

I will never understand how a bakery will sell a glass of champagne for $17 (I don't care if it's Veuve. Moet is much better IMO) or a small pot of tea for $8 (are they picking and drying those leaves themselves?!).  So what if I'm in the heart of the UES?! That's just WAY overpriced. I'll go to the wine store and pick up a bottle. At least I'll get 4 glasses out of it!

FYI-Steer clear from the fruit tart.  It's pretty, the fruit is fresh (thank god) but you'll be disappointed you didn't order something else. That's what I took away from the first visit.  Stick with cakes in here!!!

I do like the overall decor inside though.  It isn't homey where you'd want to hang out for hours but that's kinda the point I think.

3 stars for some good cake.

Minus 2 for overpriced beverages and the trek.

I'd come back only if I'm in the area but if made to choose I'd go to Black Hound or even Baked in Red Hook for slices of heaven.

I randomly wandered in here (ok, no, I knew damn well what I was doing) because I had heard of the spectacular multi-layered crepe cake. I was about to order a slice, but realized I hadn't surveyed the other beautiful works of cake art before me. All sounded fabulous, but when I saw a small mont blanc ($7.50) I couldn't resist. I purchased it without delay and was treated quite nicely by the girl behind the counter amidst the cool white setting. I got a great bag out of it, a sealed box, and a fork with napkin...and headed home for the taste test.

Topped with a halved marron glace, and looking like a mountain of chestnut spaghetti, it indeed lived up to the flavors and textures that are a part of one of my favorite desserts of all time. It doesn't take long before one hits the whipped cream center, which is unsweetened (therefore gets my approval); it blends beauitfully with the chestnut puree.

Get it now, and while you're at it, buy me another.

I discovered the Milles Feuilles cake years ago when I was watching a show on the Food Network.  I fell in love with the concept and tried to recreate one for Thanksgiving.  Mind you, I had never tried the cake so I was literally pulling ideas out of the air to make it.  Fortunately it turned out good...after half a day of making it!  Lady M's Version is executed a bit more finely and had a slight almond flavor to the pastry cream.  But my cake certainly rivaled the original, if I must say so myself :o)

Other than the Milles Crepe, I've tried the Mango Tart which is very good indeed.  The pastry cream was light and full of mango essence and topped with fine slices of fresh mango, which made it very flavorful and refreshing.

Like the dessert counterpart to Tiffany's, all the pastries at Lady M are placed on white marble behind a glass window, proudly displayed like fine jewels.  And the cost certainly reflects that.  But once in awhile, a splurge on a wonderfully crafted dessert is worth the travel to the UES and... a lighter wallet.

I think this place is over hyped.  I remember seeing it on the food network and they were featuring their Mille Crepe cake (aka "hundred layer" crepe cake, which is actually 20ish).

I had that cake, it was good but for me ,wasn't the best.  I think the idea of multiple layers of crepes all piled on with creme custard is very appealing but after tasting it, it's just OK.  I actually think it would be the perfect dessert for a heavy dinner because it's light yet hits the spot with the top layer of the cake having a crispy texture with a coffee crunch taste.

Other than that, be warned that a slice of cake will set you back $7.50 and so will a latte at the same price.  Oh and don't forget the 18% automatic gratuity if you decide to dine inside.  My mistake for not wanting to savor my cake in the outside cold.

So stop by if you're going to be in the area but don't go out of your way for it.

So I saw a picture of their mille crepe cake on http://Saks.com about a year ago and decided I had to try it. Last time I was in NYC I didn't get the chance to get a slice so I made a point to do so this time around.
The first thing you notice when you walk in to this little cake boutique is how clean it is. There are no cake crumbs on the cake trays and no finger prints on the glass.
The staff is not very friendly or attentive, they also have no incentive to be either because they automatically get 18% gratuity for all table service.
The cake was not exactly what I expected. The creme between each layer was a little to heavy but nonetheless delicious.
A slice of cake was $7.50... a little much but well worth the experience. I don't think I would go again. And you are not allowed to take pictures in the cafe.
I give it three stars because my friend and I had a nice time and she enjoyed her slice of cake also.

you'll be surprised if i tell you how many high end japanese restaurants are catered by Lady M these days.

um i don't know. but i know a lot, and most popularly the green tea crepe. only expect the better in the little shop, a lot of which are seasonal. cakes from heavy to light, creamy to fruity--all beautiful, for men and women of all tastes and dieting levels. sitting in a cutely minimal and clean place like this you won't even feel like you are eating calories. only class.

all the boyfriends in the world bring your girlfriend here! impress her by telling her that you know the free standing display counter has a built-in fridge; challenge her by asking with no visible wire how it is powered.

"What do you mean, 'No Photographs Please'?" I questioned the menu aloud.

King looked at me shaking his head, reinforcing the message written in fine print at the bottom of the menu. "Minus one star for your review later," he said and smiled.

But I couldn't resist. It's not that I'm a law-breaker at heart or a contrarian like King--it's just that the two fine slices of cake placed before us were too beautiful for me to desecrate without savoring the memory for later.

So I stole a few stealthy glances, then pulled out my cellphone. Pretending to check my messages, I undertook the secret operation of capturing the classy images forever on my phone. Sleek and clean in its design, the luscious Gateau au Chocolat shone brighter than the silver fork beside it. And the contrasting snow-white cheesecake next to it made the snapshot complete.

The tastes were just as wonderful as the pictures. Sweet and pungent, the cheesecake slid smoothly down the throat, and the rich chocolate cake caressed the jaw with a tingling sensation. "My God," I thought, bite after bite. They were quiet moments--each moment a simple satisfaction for the taste buds. A moment where the decor of the store made sense: Its white walls and clothing-boutique feel melded gracefully with the classic silhouettes and chic tastes of the desserts, uniting the senses into a glorified experience.

Surely I'd love to listen to King--who recommended Lady M and accompanied me on this excursion--and take away a star from this review for the inconvenience of capturing the memories lawfully. But at this defining moment in my limited dessert eating experience, I weaken at the knees at the thought of M'y beloved' Lady and cannot but kiss the picture on my phone and extol both cakes with five stars.

And to be fair, I'll take the average of the two and brand Lady M with five stars as well.

After viewing numerous pics on their famous mille crepe on flickr, I was determined to trek up there to have a taste.  The place is tiny and it reminded me of an exhibit hall. They displayed 6-7 cakes only.  The staff acted really snooty and i wanted to laugh when they tried to act all superior..just really phony to me.

The customer in front me of told me she goes there once a week, so I was really excited and was kicking myself for not discovering this place sooner.  I admired it for 1 quick second before I took a bite of my $7.50 piece of cake--it was very light, bland...and I wanted my money back.  sigh...I always fall into these hyped up traps.

It was a snowy evening in 2003 when my husband and I were out for dinner with friends.  One friend was a Japanese guy with an English accent, a sweet tooth and a grand vision. The waiter asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu, but our visionary mate interjected and suggested we go to his place for a treat.

And a treat it was. Back at his upper eastside brownstone, we were seated at a long organic slab of tree, the only piece of furniture in the room aside from a gigantic Portabella mushroom-shaped floor lamp that gave the feeling of being in an Alice in Wonderland-like adventure. These were the days leading up to Lady M.

We were each given a set of silver cutlery, stemware and a fine china plate displaying six samplings of quite unique cakes--nothing like we'd ever seen.  One cake had 20 layers (a.k.a. Mille Crepe) and would be the signature dessert of our friend's new confectionary store. It was exquisite, both in the sweeter version for Westerners and Japanese style with green tea. As incredible as they were, equally so was the triangular wedge I called Death-by-Chocolate (a.k.a. Gateau au Chocolate), chocolate combinations of gooey, chewy, thick and rich blended with a light chocolately cake. But then I tasted the Layered Flavors of Decadence (a.k.a. Miroir Caramel ), sort of like a Snickers bar from Tiffanys or the classier Takashimaya. Simply a sensation for every tastebud on the tongue with dark tart chocolate, light fluffy caramel mousse, capped with a crunchy sweet caramel coating. I knew this would be one of my most memorable New York moments. The desserts kept coming. And our friend shared his vision of opening a store on Madison Avenue, somewhere between 70th and 80th Streets. Considering the real estate market at the time, we wondered if he knew what he was up against.

Apparently, he did. Today, Lady M. on 78th Street off Madison Avenue still is New York City's finest cake store with a very loyal following. You'll be served, just as we were, the most delicate flavors on fine china, with stemware and real silver under a Crystal chandelier. It just doesn't get any better than this.

As I went up towards The Met from my oh-so-far apartment, I stumbled upon this gorgeous space named Lady M Cake Boutique.  The Lady M Mille Crepes Cake was lovely.  The description of the signature cake says it all: "no less than 20 paper-thin, hand-made crepes layered with etherally light and creamy custard."  In the words of Rachael Ray: "yum-mo."

Yes, the space is pretentious; yes, the cakes were $6.50/slice, the coffee was expensive, but it fits the neighborhood and it is elegant.  It's a splurge, but very delicious indeed.  The coffee was very good, but definitely on the expensive side.  Not something you should have everyday, but it's definitely something you should try.

Legs crossed, sipping from porcelain and nibbling on a $28 spread consisting of a slice of cheesecake and mille crepe, with a distant gaze into the drizzle outside I'm reminded of Asia, namely, the city I love to hate and hate to love, Seoul.  Its stylish districts have long been littered with Lady M style boutiques.  From a concept standpoint, I'm happy to see similar ventures such as Manhattan's wd-50 and PONG finally popping up stateside.  As for Chickalicious -- which happens to either be temperamentally open for business at odd hours, closed for a private engagement, or at full capacity -- I'm writing you off until an undetermined date.

But to live within three blocks of this particular milk-white pill box would lead to big, big trouble in the big, big apple.

Literally.

Because I would be the upper east side blimp - UES Large and mademoiselle to you.  Passerby access to a delightful cake boutique?  Please.  It's like I can hear my waistline stretching from one, two, six bites of Lady M's most perfect Cloudy Cheesecake (permission to sigh in unison). I don't even eat cheesecake.  (Recently self-diagnosed stage 1 lactose intolerants, PM me if you're interested in forming a support group).

Fortunately, I'm not a 10021 resident and my sweet-toothed honey and I opted to stroll 40 blocks in the hopes of burning off a fraction of our desserts.  It helped.  A little.

I go back and forth between 2 stars and 3 but went with 2 just bc i wasn't pleased! I just stopped by there earlier today and was totally in the mood for some amazing dessert, but to my dismay.. it was only Ohhhhhkay. I've had much better cake and dessert experiences: chickalicious in East village, NYC for example OR even better cake specifically..Susina in LA, Lido in LA, Sweet Lady Jane in LA, Extraordinary Desserts in San Diego.. all much better!!

First of all, although the decor was all white, modern and very clean, it was too minimal and almost boring, the furniture was a little cheap looking as well. Everything was displayed in clear cases, but there just wasn't THAT much to awe over. There were maybe less than 10 cakes total, a few tea tins, some little pastries, a few (what looked like day-old) sandwhches.... hmmm not impressed. So we sat down, and there were 2 meanie-queenie looking waitresses that DONt smile, now that's just annoying. They took our orders.. (the kitchen closed at 3PM so we could only get the pre-made sandwiches) We got the ham and cheese sandwich, brie sandwich with the little salads on the side. the checker cake and the banana mille feuille. They were all just okay, really. The checker cake tasted like something I could have gotten at a chinese bakery in Cali--like Sheng Kee or Sogo. The banana was more unique but I'd prefer the banana cream pudding at Magnolia's. Anyway, we just wanted hot water with lemon and honey. and they charged $3 each and 1.50 for refills. hmm.. oh well.. oh yeah and 18% gratuity was tacked on automatically.. oh. and i got a slice of the gateau aux marrons.. i'm going to try that later tonight.... since i like chesnut..

I thought I'd celebrate the ROTD status at Lady M - which aspires to be the "La Maison Du Chocolat of Cakes" (Owner's quotes).

I had been here once earlier to sample the Cloud Cake which New York Magazine had rated as the top cheesecake of 2006 - light, smooth with sour cream glaze and graham cracker crust. They also have another cheesecake (New York) which has a dark chocolate cookie crumb crust and white chocolate shavings - sweet and somewhat tangy.

But I thought this time I'd try their famous Mille Crepe Cake - which has actually been trademarked by the owners - it is a multistoreyed dessert with 20 lacelike crepes layered with vanilla pastry cream - a very clever design and difficult to pull off at the same time as the cream has to be firm so that the cake doesn't collapse while the crepes have to be thin enough to be cut with a fork. This is a very delicate balancing act. But the concept is that the layers should be coming apart in your mouth so that you feel each individual layer/crepe dissolve - Masterpiece of an idea!

I suspect the vanilla cream is later mixed with heavy or whipped cream - and I am not a big fan of the latter. This was a personal disappointment - and I guess I will have to try the green tea version at Megu to truly appreciate both the taste and the design. The concept promised much more than it delivered, and it may also have to do with their baking not being done on the premises.

I did like the extremely light, Pumpkin mousse with a creme brulee like texture, perfect dessert to enjoy around Thanksgiving - On the other hand, the dark Chocolate Gateau is a very dense consistency with  rich chocolate mousse and roasted walnuts - meant for chocoholics.

The decor is sparse - desserts bring the only colour to the white surroundings that remind one of a bright box.

I guess my only gripe with Lady M is that the owners bring a distinctly left brained genius to dessert making - which to me is a right brained art - this is not a Payard or a Bruno! But, still a noteworthy addition to the stops on a dessert connoisseur's list.

I finally made it to Lady M!  A small small store front with delectable cakes and confections, I am in trouble when I move to NYC.

We actually sat down in the cafe and had lunch.  While the food is very good, the service is VERY VERY s-l-o-w.  I had the brie sandwich... excellent.  This is what a grilled cheese sandwich should taste like!

We finished our meal with their famous Mille Crepe Cake and Cloud Cheesecake.  While the concept of the Mille Crepe Cake sounds terrific, I was slightly disappointed.  It is light and not too sweet, but the whipped cream filling was just ok.  I mean, it's good - very good, but not as great as I was expecting.

The Cloud Cake was just perfection.  Not too heavy and not too sweet.  I'm not a cheesecake person, but this cake is special.

I will come back next time for the black and white checker cake and their fruit tart.

PS... Do not bring children to this cafe... especially if they have crayons.

UPDATE: 12/10/07

We had the Pumpkin Mousse (seasonal) and Gateau aux Marrons (chestnut cake) this afternoon.  Both were PERFECTION.  Go get some!!

BTW... their small pot of tea costs $9.  You're better off brewing your own at home.

After asked my friend who lives in NYC, I got the name of Lady M. The place is very small, there are about 10-14 seats. We were there about 5 PM and we were in a line to order the fabulous looking cakes.

It was our turn when we ordered one of strawberry shortcake and one of chocolate arc-en-ciel and we told them we want to dine in. So they told us to wait for the table, there were 6-8 ppl waiting for the tables and we decided to wait.

We were seated after a while and we told the server we already ordered. Here came the confusion, when we first arrived there was a whole strawberry shortcake but when we were seated, that cake was gone. Wait, there was a piece of strawberry shortcake on the counter and we thought that was ours.

"That is mine," a shout from a lady in the line. The staffs looked at each other, seemed like someone messed up. Another party who just sat apparently ordered that shortcake too. A lady told the party that she came first so that was hers. That couple asked the staffs if they had  more shortcakes, and they said no. The party left. But wait, another couple who came earlier than that lady order that shortcake too.

So the victory went to that couple with default. The lady seemed upset and the staffs poorly handle this situation. The thing was there were 3 orders of shortcakes before the whole cake was sold, for us, for the couple who won the cake, and for that lady. We all ordered the cakes from different staffs, there were 4-5 staffs at that time.

One of the staffs reserved a cake before the whole thing was sold, and other staffs thought that particular piece was for their customers. When problems arose the staffs argued themselves in the closed space and told the customers to wait. They argued about 5-10 mins and came out. And that when that couple won their piece.

The lady blamed the staffs for poor management which was absolutely true, the staff apologized in a poor manner. She said sorry first but when the lady continued to talk, the staff said "We sorry it's our fault, but it's not a big deal. It's just a piece of cake." I was surprised by the words and felt sorry for all of us. This problem could have been avoid if the staffs just do a better job on communication. And all of us would feel a lot better if the staffs treated us in the better way.

The cakes deserved full 5 stars but I deducted 2 stars represented how bad the customer services were.

Ok so this place is overpriced.  With a cup of coffee averaging $5 and a slice of cake for $7.50 who cares because I think the slice of crepe layered cake is so good its worth it.  I also enjoyed the strawberry short cake and the banana creme puff cake.  I really like this place, the servers are nice and you can just relax here  and enjoy your coffee and dessert.  The place can get busy and they have very few tables.  Also, they add the 18% gratuity on your bill for some who don't know how to tip.

The Tiffany's of cake. Expensive yes. A bit posh yes. Want everything to try everything in the store yes. A friend of mine brought me here and I was pleased as punch that she did. I wish I was more hungry because I really did just want a slice of everything. The cakes are unique and divine. Truly great cake.

Lady M Confessions is a beautiful cake boutique. I got Mille Crepe Cake for my mom's b-day. My brother took me here and we got smaller size ($40). It was perfect size for 4. Unfortunately the cake was just okay. I understand how much work it's in the cake but the whole experience of cake itself (cutting, tasting and after taste) didn't exceed my expectation. I expected more from the visual presentations of cakes, store and packaging.

When I tried to cut into the piece with my fork, it resisted and slipped to the side and made a mess. I found it much easier to pick up and eat. That is not really what I expected from the store and its presentation. The crepes had a strange oil flavor...? I am sure it was butter but didn't taste like butter. Thin-layered cream also was just fine. It was Sunday afternoon when I bought. Do you think my cake wasn't fresh..?? But definitely other cakes looked beautiful and tasty looking. I might try something different next time.

I love their Mille Crepe cake!  And whenever I go to NYC, this is one place I always make a stop at.  Granted it is a bit pricey, but I have a sweet tooth that needs satisfying.  Whenever I go I want a slice of everything, but I always settle on the Mille Crepe, since that is what they are known for.

Wow, talk about feeding your bougie aspirations. But 'tis expected when you see luxury car after luxury car parked out front.

Decor. I ALWAYS talk about decor. The inside is parched white, very clean and sterile -- just the way that I like it. They have one bar that holds all of their pastries and baked goods. Drawback: limited seating. The staff is impeccably dressed in crisp black, though they were all women (detecting a bias here, haha).

Felt a little out of place, seeing that I was casually dressed after traversing the city. Can't quite remember what I ordered. Probably wasn't that spectacular anyway.

Sorry, they don't serve tap water here; only bottled.

Oh I will come back here whenever I am in the neighborhood for sure -- but only better dressed and deeper pockets.
