Came here the other day for the first time. I was meeting up with some people for our weekly run. We have been going around the Rose Bowl for the past month, but decided to find a different place for a change of pace. I was pleasently surprised by this park. It is nestled in the residential area of San Marino. The parking can get a bit scarce in the designated lot, but you should have no problem finding a spot outside on the sidewalk.
I was told that there are two tracks within the park. The inner track is a 3/4 mile loop and the ouside track is 1 mile. We ran the outside track three times to fulfill our 3 mile workout. It wasn't crowded and some parts of the park is quite serene. It is also very dog and kid friendly. Just make sure you pick up after them (dog and kid) ... LOL!

We drove by here a few times, one day saw quite a few cars, figured it was another hollywood production party but then the park emerged, very easy to miss it. So yesterday we walked in to take a look, parking lot as other's have said is either full or not easy to find.
We were lucky, it was later in the day, the paybooth was closed, I guess they're charging $4 a person. Now normally I'd say that's outrageous, but after seeing other public parks around, it's more of a statement.
People don't clean up after themselves, they throw their trash, and groups are the biggest offenders, a few years back we were eating at a picnic table in a park and a police officer told a group to pick up their stuff, they had junk everywhere, had he not been there, I'm sure they would have left their trash there, I'm thinking the same kind of people that would go to the bathroom without wiping themselves or washing their hands, yes that disgusting.
Wedding photographers, now I know why they don't allow this, it's disruptive to other, you come there, you want to enjoy the park, not have people taking pictures, controlling where you can go and where you can't. So if you want to take pictures go over to Huntington Library, and snap away at the couples, and maybe before the pic you should tell them to smile and "say divorce, alimony, child support!"
Anyway, where was I, serenity, peace, no large crowds, good place to take a small picnic basket and relax, a world away from the sirens, police helicopters, gun fire, and people in SUV's (not sure why, it's always SUV's) who would rather honk their horns than using the cell phone to tell people "I'm here!", repeatedly "i'm here I'm here I'm here!"
Till you have to call the police on them for disturbing the peace at 2am in the morning.
I love this park. I used to come here as a kid and ride my bike around the track. I even had a birthday party here, stationed at the far side of the park where there are picnic tables and shady trees. There are a ton of squirrels!
More recently, I ran a couple of cross country meets here. Didn't really enjoy running the meet, but I liked hanging out at the park afterward. Always relaxing.

It is pretty and a great place to take children. Parking sucks ass. I have not been in awhile but from what I hear you have to pay on weekends if you are not from san marino... LAME! This is a park. San Marino is rich enough why do they make you pay money to get into a park? A park with tree's not roller coasters!!! I take a star away for paying.

Nostalgia at its best.
Yeah, yeah. You have to put up a pretty penny if you're a non-resident and you happen upon here on a weekend - but I almost think it would be worth it. This park is really that nice.
A huge grassy area (been known to be called a knoll), surrounded by a footpath that you can ride your bike, scooter, etc. around. . . a baseball diamond, an assortment of park benches to rest your weary limbs, a playground area that is great for babies (toddlers to be more specific) and older children, tons of bushes to play hide-and-go-seek, tennis courts, and an almost hidden garden on the west side of the park. There is tons of shade, as the park is surrounded by foliage - it's almost like a HUGE secret garden. ;o)
As the reputation of San Marino holds true, this park is spectacular, and very well kept. Great to bring your dog (if you have one), to walk around the park, play fetch, and whatever else you do with dogs at parks. There is enough grassy area to play football, frisbee, fly a kite, or just play tag.
During the weekdays, be prepared to see nannies with their charges, and the well off chatting with their friends as their kiddies play. I felt a little out of my league, but I remember coming here when I was learning to ride a bike, and how could I NOT bring my daughter to such a fantastic park??
Does anyone remember how they used to have a maze built out of the hedges??
The only time I have seen this park entirely crowded was for fourth of July. . . if you have a group, you need to have a permit.
Beautiful park, beautiful setting. . . ahhh. . . too bad it's a tad far to walk - I got halfway there, and was like, sh!t this is far!! But it was a nice walk, nonetheless. :o)
If you drive to this park, parking is almost non-existent in the lot. You're better off just parking on the street.

Just when you think you know all the answers, someone changes the questions. Went on a scouting mission for locations to shoot some wedding photos. I thought this was the perfect spot since it's less than a mile from the church and it's lush and green. I looked at the sign that was posted doesn't say anything photography, but you need a permit for groups on the weekend. So, I thought cool. They probably have a permit or something I need to pay for. I go to their site and they don't allow ANY wedding photography as Doris W. found out , too! WTF! They probably don't need the money from photo permits so they don't sell them. Snobs! Now I have to search around some more. Options are so limited in the Pasadena/San Marino/San Gabriel area. I know there's always Pasadena City Hall, but it's so played out.
If you want to come to this park to chill, it's a beautiful place. One star is for the banning of wedding photography. Photography is not a crime!!

Hidden away in residential San Marino, Lacy park is a private park for San Marino residents, but also open to public during the weekdays. Weekends, there is a charge to get in, if you're not a resident.
Lacy Park is different than other parks because it's extremely intimate, in the sense that there are so many trees and natural barriers around the park, so that outside noise (freeways, busy streets) is barely audible, if at all. Although it's intimate, the park is very spacious, with plenty of places to hide away, if necessary. (romance, please!)
There is plenty of parking on the street and also in a small lot, in front of the park. Dogs are welcome, so long as they stay on their leashes and you pick up their crap. (Crap bags provided)
Even though Lacy Park isn't a regional park, there are some parts of the park with trails to follow, which contribute to the large sized-feel.
In the back (west side of the park), there is a lovely rose garden. Picnic tables are available in designated areas, and there is also a playground for children. Watch out for nannies/au pairs who don't appreciate persons in their early twenties (me) trying to enjoy the playground.
Lacy park is extremely clean and well kept; not much has changed since the first time I visited (some 8 years ago). I hope it never does...

When I was little, we usually spent Fourth of July at my great aunt and uncle's house in San Marino. After the barbecue, we would often drive (or walk?) to Lacy Park to watch the fireworks. Even though I don't go to my great aunt's for Fourth of July anymore, I've been to Lacy Park quite a few times since then.
As a city park, it's wonderful. It's maintained very well, and it's big enough so that you can spread out and not be near anyone else yet small enough so that you won't get lost.
So why the two-star rating? Well, Lacy Park is free for San Marino residents only. Everyone else has to pay. I won't go into how absolutely ridiculous this policy is on many levels, but let me just reassure the residents of San Marino of one thing: There won't be encampments of homeless people living in Lacy Park if you rescind this elitist policy. Rest assured: You will still be able to enjoy your park.
Now, I realize that the park is maintained through San Marino residents' tax dollars, but really, we now charge people who come from out of town to enjoy our PUBLIC parks? If this is the case, I propose charging people in entrance fee to Golden Gate Park based on their past year's income. So San Marino residents can easily pay $400 to spend a few hours in Golden Gate Park. If you don't think this policy would be fair, then you should also object to Lacy Park's elitist fee system.

Lacy Park is a PRIVATE park, as opposed to all those public parks. Probably only reason its so nicely maintained and luscious.
Parking: Lots around the park or side streets.
Weekends: Pay a fee if you're not San Marino residence.
Pet-Friendly: Yes, they have doggy bags around the inside circle.
Description: Inside circle is a cement track in the open. Outside Circle walk is in tree shaded walkways. There are kid playgrounds. There is also a Rose Garden with the old owner's pictures and plenty of other donors pledging to maintain this park.
Environment: Chill spot, great for picnics, sit downs, walks, runs, etc.
You will enjoy Lacy Park.
This is a really great park. It is nicely wooded, lots of shade for sunny days. It has a huge grassy knoll to picnic on or play soccer. The playground is a little dated, but totally usable and maintained well, with lots of swings. It said the outside circle lap was a mile and the inside lap was 3/4's of a mile on the San Marino City website. I think they're much shorter than that. Still a very enjoyable park to run at.
I can understand why they want to keep it a private park, because on the way out to the parking lot, I noticed someone left a dirty diaper by a tree. Not nice, people. Let's pick up after ourselves.
This is one of the best parks around. It's really big and really quiet---when I say quiet, I mean away from cars. The entire park is pretty much surrounded by huge trees so you can't see the cars and traffic outside the park. It's got a pretty big playground for kids, a huge field--enough for everyone to have their private area, and also long paved roads for long bike rides, roller skating, or just walking.
Makes me feel like I'm taking a mini vacation everytime I lie on the grass and just enjoy the sky and the light breeze blowing my way...the sound of the leaves...what a great place!

It's free on the weekdays to all and comes with a fee for non-residents on the weekend. Parking is very limited, but there is ample parking on the streets. This park is pretty big and quiet. There is a LARGE grass field in the middle for you to roll around in. There is also some picnic tables. The kiddie gym is pretty nice, although I believe they've changed it since the last time I've been there. As for the walking/running trail, the concrete certainly needs some fixing up, but it's overall really quiet and not crowded. People bike/rollerblade too. And if you come with a pet, they provide plastic bags for those poopies. Awesome place to go.
Beautiful, beautiful park. It's pretty big... lots of green, trees, play areas... great to walk or run around. Very well taken care of.
Great for picnics, relaxing reading, bring the kids, etc etc.
I hear there is a fee to get on the weekends?... Which I guess would prevent big kid bday parties and what not. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing yet.
But the weekdays: free.

Truly a secret garden, Lacy Park is tucked away among the hilly neighborhoods above Huntington Drive in San Marino.
If the drive past the super-lovely mansions doesn't depress you too much, you can have a nice relaxing picnic, walk, or nap here. It's annoying to have to pay on the weekends (if you're not a resident), but I guess that's how they keep the riff-raff away!

I love this park! It's nestled in a quiet neighborhood in San Marino (which is a very nice neighborhood, I might add). Even though it's near Huntington Ave. the park is surrounded by hundreds of trees to block out the noise of traffic. The park is huge and is a great place to go with family or friends; for a walk, a picnic, etc. Bring your pet for a walk, kids to play in the kiddie gym, or just to run a lap around the park.

I used to love coming to Lacy Park. It is tucked away in the beautifully gorgeous and outrageously expensive neighborhoods of San Marino...it's so well tucked that it's difficult to find. I do believe, San Marino being San Marino, does charge a small fee for the weekends...Eff that S$%#.
That being said, I still love this place because it is a peaceful haven with a large grassy area in the middle (where locals come to play soccer and little kids at their various rich-kid day camps come to romp....cute, nonetheless). There is a dirt path that surrounds the park (it's not very large however...which is why this place only gets 4 stars) that you can run around. Outside the perimeter of the park (on the north side), however, there are a set of stairs (not as ginormous as the SM stairs) that you can augment your workout with.
Lacy Park would be a perfet place to picnic and read the Sunday paper but alas and alack, I lived over there when I was a poor grad student and refused to pay the weekend fee (more out of principle than anything). Either way, this place is a beautiful, quiet, lush little park that is great to relax in or incorporate into your runs.

This is a super nice park. I especially love the long paved trails. Truly makes me want to get a beach cruiser! Great spot for a picnic, stroll, or anything. Doesn't seem to get crowded and is huge.
Minus one star for the small fee--although I did come in through the side and didn't see a cashier there so I just strolled on in.
Will definitely be back again and again!

What's not to love? Quiet, beautiful, peaceful, open, spacious, and family-friendly. When I was younger, my summer camp was located on the western fringe, and, provided there was no field trip that day, we would all go play.
I'm looking for a nice park to take some pre-wedding photo, further research, the City doesn't allow wedding pictures to be taken in Lacy Park and if you want professional pictures of family taken there, a filming permit must first be obtained from City Hall. FYI
This is a beautifully well kept park. The kiddy play area is large enough for the kids big and small. There is plenty of space for joggers, bikers, and roller blades or whatever you want to do. It's a great place for a romantic picnic too. I take my girls there a lot. They really like it. Just let them run free.
