What's this talk of "Orange Sauce"?

All I heard about on the way here was the wonders of this magical sauce. I was skeptical, to me hot sauce is hot sauce. My tolerance is low for spicy things. We arrived after 11pm on a saturday night, and the place was pretty packed. Nonetheless we were able to secure a table for the six of us and the food arrived pretty quickly. Yay for fast service!

I ordered a chicken tostada, it was good, but not great. Enter orange sauce. It succeeded in making the food much tastier, and it wasn't super spicey like I expected. It has a smokey spiciness to it which was very tolerable for my weak tastebuds. Everyone else seemed pretty satisfied with their meals. Aside from having a security guard (what really goes on around here?), and people just chillin' on the front steps (do you live here?) this place is pretty decent.

If again I am in the area I wouldn't mind checking out what else La Vic's has to offer.

GREATEST ORANGE SAUCE EVER.

The sauce is so great that they have to have securities at the door because people attempt to steal the prize.

Drunk Food for Drunken People

Absolutely great when you are having a good buzz (almost taste kobe beef), but the food is NOT so grand when you plan on grabbing a bite for lunch.

Burritos, Quesidillas,Tacos- these are all AVERAGE. Yes, they are known for their spicy orange sauce, but you can only cover the actual taste of the food for so long. Not to mention, that orange sauce mainly consist of mayo!! Auh... I can feel my heart clogging up now. However, I do have to vouch for their Nachos. This is pretty good. They give you enough chips, beef, salsa, and cheese to fill up two people. No kidding.

FYI: This place is fairly small. If you are planning to grab a late night snack, be ready to endure long lines, dirty tables, and drunken people.

Getting a little tired of La Vics, not of the Orange Sauce don't hoit me nao!

Eating around it seems as if the burritos are lazily put together nowadays, buy a $6 dollar bottle of Orange Sauce and go else where.
But then again, if you were really eating a delicious burrito you wouldn't really need the sauce would you? Oh well use it to top the Carne Asada Fries next doors at Iguanas, their orange sauce is too smokey anyhow.

P.S. The security guard will always find a way to ruin my outing here. So what if I'm not standing on the red carpet?

I love getting the super burrito. It's super filling & damn good. It gets a bit sketchy up in that joint, especially on a friday or saturday night. Hopefully, the renovations are almost done, we couldn't find the entrance the other week. Who doesn't love the orange sauce, whatever it is, it's f**kin' good.
Hands down, the best burrito in town.

I made a pilgrimage to the home of the famed orange sauce...and didn't have any. While most people think I'm Mexican, I'm actually Salvadorian and I don't do spicy food. I do LOVE me some tacos and Victoria did serve up some delicious and large tacos for $2.

See: http://farm3.static.fl...

I ordered two carne asada tacos and one chorizo taco. I got the "super" version which includes guac and sour cream and it was still very reasonable.

If in San Jose, I'd definitely go back. I heard its open late which is also a plus. This seemed to be THE spot. It was incredibly crowded on a Saturday at 1pm by old people and college students alike.

If you live in San Jose and you've never been to La Vik's then you are probably dead.

One of the few places to visit whenever you're in the South Bay is La Victoria Taqueria.

There are 3 locations, I've been to the San Carlos St. (Old House) and Santa Clara St. locations. I find better parking at the Santa Clara location so I go there every time.

Let's just skip right to it, this place is famous for its ORANGE SAUCE! Nooo, it doesn't taste like orange, but the mayo/sour cream/garlic/salsa concotion is orange in color and bursts with creamy spicy flavor. It makes everything you order taste so darn good. Shoot, I could put it on eggplant (my worst enemy) and it would taste good too.

Here's the catch, that's the only thing that's really going for La Viks. The burritos are mediocre, the tacos and quesadillas are mediocre. I can't order a meat dish because the chicken tastes way too gamey to me. The tortilla chips are usually stale whenever I order Nachos.

I usually order a Super Veggie Burrito and a Corn Cheese quesadilla. I pour on ridiculous amounts of orange sauce, sometimes directly into my mouth and watch my wife shake her head in embarressment.

For another kick, ask for the 'Green Sauce'. Nothing real special about this one, but it will boost the spicy-ness of your food and speed up the digestion process for the next morning.

La Viks gets a lot of praise, but people got too much sauce on the brain. I give it 3-stars..now give me my sauce!!

My reccomendation for you is to go around the corner and eat at Iguanas if you want Burritos.

I can argue that La Vics does have better Quesadillas, but that's where it stops. Nothing else is better here. It is greasy and the one close to the Shark Tank is even worse!

The Orange sauce is DELICIOUS and what makes this place any good.

I'm a big fan of over stuffed super sized burrito's, and i got a few bites of layered bread, and if my bread is layering... that means my burrito isn't big enough! Sooo yea.

Pretty delicious and the orange sauce is amazing - but .without it... they'd be lost

3 stars just for the orange sauce.  Other than that its just a par Taqueria burrito.  I should steal the sauce to take with me to better burrito places... but if you havn't tried it yet you must at least once... the sauce is that good.

I had thought the burritos were bigger here... I went once a couple years ago and then once last month and they seemed a lot smaller... hmm i dunno.

I came here one night with my coworker and a few friends, and seeing this place seemed like it was pretty legit. I mean the place is under construction at the moment? but they are still open.

My coworker kept bragging about the Asada Torta, "Get the asada torta, that torta sounds so good, you should get the torta!" Hmmm, a torta does sound good, so what did i do? I ordered the Asada Torta.

The meat was one of the best ive had in a while, it almost melted in your mouth and the spices were awesome! Overall A+ torta.

But wait, it gets better... I keep hearing everyone talking about their orange sauce. i didn't understand what the big deal was, until I loaded it all up in my torta.  I am now convinced that the Orange sauce is made with crack. I should have bought a bottle :/

The only things going for La Vic's is that it's open after the clubs close and that orange sauce.

Their nachos are horrible - beans, sour cream, salsa and a sprinkling of meat coated with watered down cheez sauce. No that's not a typo, it's really not cheese; it's that nasty artificial orange goo from the large foodservice cans, only with more water added so that it's sort of just orangish liquid soaking into the chips. I can't eat flour so can't have the burrito, but from what I can tell of the other base ingredients they dumped onto the nachos, I wasn't missing much.

The crowd is pretty representative of the same people who frequent downtown San Jose. Arm yourself and avoid eye contact.

Excellent burritos!

I had the super carne asada burrito and it was great!  Good flavoring of the meat  and quick service as I had called my order in ahead of time and just swung in to pick it up.

I also had the chips and salsa whch, the chips were a bit on the stale side which is why i am giving them a 4 instead of 5 stars.

I recommend trying both the red sauce on the burritos and the fresh salsa for the chips!

Hm.

I ate here a couple or few months ago & thought it was pretty good.

But...

... that's about the only thing I actually remember.

- Usually I have a great recollection of a place when I really like (or dislike) their food. Even if it was years ago... it's always still burned into my brain....

So yeah... I remember thinking "Hm... this place is alright."

Interior's kinda cool (I like the long double sided bar thingie you can sit at) and the service was nice.

Prices were OK.

All in all I think they're your typical "not bad" taqueria.

A-OK!

its a conspiracy.
try eating the burrito without the orange sauce.
I always get the carne asada but this time I wanted
to try something new ...and no, I wasn't drunk
enough to step out of my box and try the beef
tongue - I need at least 2 tequila *cringing* shots.
Ughhhhhh. So I tried the el pastor and it was
nasty. the meat overpowered everything and it
just got nastier as i ate it. you know that feeling
when you try something at first and you're like..hmm
taste pretty good..but the more you taste it, you're
like..ugh, bleh.  - and I was pretty drunk. usually,
i can eat anything when i'm intoxicated, but la victoria
al pastor is something beyond my taste buds. if you
go here, just get the usual carne asada not the
al pasornasty. thanks.

PRO:
1. It's open. Doesn't matter what time. It always seems to still be open.
2. It has a security guard.
3. It is affordable.
4. Orange sauce.

CON:
1. It needs a security guard.
2. Patrons come in and take over entire tables by lying on the chairs in order to "save seats" leaving those folks with actual food in hand standing while they eat.

The food here is pretty good, I enjoy their quesadillas and burritos with the orange sauce, but the service just stinks. I've been screwed over 3 times here and I don't think I'm going back.

Once, the ogre girl gave me a chicken burrito instead of my beef, and when I complained she insisted I ordered chicken. A second time, they didn't give me my chips and salsa, and said that I was supposed to pick them up as soon as I ordered. A third time, they charged me for the quesadilla I ordered, but gave me a taco and tried to play it off as if that was their quesadilla. Wtf

Ive only been here a couple times the first I wasn't that hungry so i didn't get anything...However, my buddy kept telling me about this orange sauce and I tasted that While I was there the first time....Then we went back the next day and I ordered up a super chili verde pork burrito and a bottle of orange sauce to go. I am now a huge fan and cannot wait to try many other items on the menu. I proudly take home my orange magic sauce! 6 bucks for a bottle, HELL YEAH I like it on everything, try marinating some chicken in it and grilling, oooh wee numma goodness. If you park in the jack in the box parking lot you have to pay 2 bucks but whatever its worth it.

(I originally posted this review on 7/29... at the wrong La Vics! I am an idiot and have re-posted the review here.)

This used to be my favorite place to grab lunch with co-workers on the days I worked in downtown San Jose. It's not a true tacqueria in the sense that it's pretty mainstream, but the tacos are delicious and reasonably priced. The orange sauce is to die for on just about anything! Lines were always long and service a little slow over lunch hour, but it was totally worth it to eat those beyond delicious tacos. Mmmm. Just don't get too thirsty because they charge for soda refills!

400th to review! Woot! I too am convinced that the Orange Sauce has a touch of crack in it. Maybe cocaine, since the sauce is that good. I had a revelation the other day. When I lived in San Jose, the only time I ate at "La Vics" was after we left the Bar or a club. Nothing better to end the night than with a Carne Asada Super Burrito doused in Orange Sauce. Now that I've moved away, I have to make a trip when in town. I ate here two days in a row last week. I've never had a bad experience or eaten something I did not like. Do yourself a favor get a Carne Asada Super Quesadilla (Flour of course) and ask for it without salsa. Proceed to drown it in Orange Sauce.

Shame!

Shame on you!!!!!

Shame on you three times La Vic's!!!!!!!!!!!

I have loyally devoured the majority of your deliciously greasy gastronomical disaster of a menu for the past 7 years. I paid your lousy 6 dollars and bought your sauce in times where I couldn't afford 6 dollars for gas, just because I wanted to be honest and support your business, instead of stealing bottles like SJSU students frequently do. I continued to eat here almost every day of my Freshman year despite you being the obvious cause to my Freshman Fifteen. I brought all of my friends to San Jose to sample your various delights. And how do you repay me?!

Apparently the owner's son (who has a notorious reputation given by frequenters of this taqueria for being a "Richard"), has a lot to learn about customer service and needs an attitude adjustment.

I'm fine that you make me buy a super taco without guacamole or sour cream, instead of a regular taco with cheese, but when I ask for a small bit of sour cream on the side, don't argue that I can only have it on the taco or you're charging me 75 cents since it's "on the side" and technically a side order, or you can put it on the taco without the surcharge because it "comes with the taco" and therefore surpasses the extra fee. If I want just a tiny dollop of it on the side to see if I like it on my taco, I clearly don't want your hands pouring it all over the place.

The fact that you're making a big deal out of one taco and won't even put a little bit of sour cream on the paper next to the taco without snidely saying that you're going to charge me an extra fee is quite unimpressive. Yes, I can see that you speak English. Clearly you can see that I'm capable of speaking the English language as well. There's no need to exaggerate that you're talking slowly as if to a 2 year old. Your power trip and condescending attitude has lost you a loyal customer that has driven more than 80 miles just to eat one of your burritos and has dragged all of her friends and gotten them addicted to your food.

I understand that a business has to profit and charge for "extras", but this is something I've already paid for. There is also something called "customer service", where you do little things that don't cost you a lot of money and will reap you many returns because you keep a customer happy, and they continue to patronize your establishment.

To the owner of all 3 taquerias who probably doesn't care about what I have to say: If your son thinks he's too good to work in a taqueria, let him find his own job where he doesn't have power over other people just because he's the owner's son and can do whatever he wants. It will teach him some humility and prepare him better to be a successful business owner in a customer service oriented industry.

Heard good things about La Vics and got to try it for myself for the first time last night. Though a friend bought it for me and brought it back home, so I didn't get the in-store experience but just one taste of their burrito with orange sauce and I was a fan!

Very tasty, very fresh, very good :p

I will have to go back and see the store for myself, but that might just be an excuse to eat another one of their burritos or try some other things on their menu and get me some more of that orange sauce!

What has happened to this place, low standards. I have been coming for a decade in front of SJSU and near San Pedro Square the past years and now, the new workers simply have lost that flare, the food is not good, what a disappointment from someone who has been coming for breakfast, lunch and late night outs, really!

Not recommended, this is from someone that has been coming for a long time, they have lost that flavor that made them popular. Furthermore, other taquerias just blocks away have better deals or better taste.

Bad Bad Bad to La Victoria! Shame on YOU!

I cannot even begin to comprehend how this place has any less than 5 stars. In fact, I'm going to take it a step further and say that Yelp should literally create a special "6 star" function so I can apply it to their super carnitas quesadilla, because frankly it is the best I've ever had.

I'm not gonna lie, I was skeptical when my friend told me that it was better than Cancun in the Mission. I might've even given an arrogant "you can't be serious" chuckle at the thought. But I guess in this case food speaks louder than words, and that quesadilla put me in my place. I won't ever doubt my friend's culinary judgment again.

So why so good? First of all, the carnitas were well seasoned (well, if you can call being smothered in avocado, cheese, and sour cream well-seasoned), juicy, and in correct proportion to the rest of the ingredients. But really 2 things made this particular quesadilla special: 1) the crispy flour tortilla (crisping it up makes a world of difference) and 2) the orange sauce. I sat there and licked that orange sauce for a good 10 minutes and still have no idea what's in it, nor do I even really want to ruin the secret and find out.

For the record, the burrito was good but not 5 star amazing - even with the orange sauce. The 5 stars is really for that particular quesadilla. Usually I wouldn't rate something so highly just for 1 menu selection, I take other things into account, but they do it so exceptionally well that all of my other criteria just flies out the window.

Even though the place was jam packed on a Saturday night and it will take you a long while to get your food, it is beyond worth it.

Yummy yummy burritos w/ delicious orange sauce at 2am!  After leaving one of the downtown bar/clubs in San Jose our group stopped at La Vic's to get a burrito and their famous orange sauce.  This was the perfect snack after being out all night dancing/drinking.  We took our order to go and beat the crowd (came in right after us.) Why did I not hear about this place earlier?  This place makes a freaking awesome burrito.  They're smaller than Chipotle's, but they taste a hell of a lot better and they aren't full of the excess white rice that is in Chipotle's burritos.  It will still fill you up unless you have a hearty appetite - in which case get two of them.  It's only $5 for a burrito.

As a bonus, there's an amazing salsa they gave me which elevated the burrito to a new level.  Slightly creamy, slightly spicy and very tasty.

Also notable was the quick service.  It was about 9:30 and they were about to close, but they prepared my burrito quickly and it seems the quality didn't suffer for it.  I'm used to waiting for eons at Baja Fresh and similar places, so this was a pleasant surprise.  I barely had enough time to start up a game on my cell phone before they called my order out.

Overall highly recommended.  $5 is peanuts for burritos of this caliber.

(If you've seen this review before, it's because I mistakenly posted it under Taqueria San Jose and didn't notice for 10 months. :) ).

The quesa-dilla is the bomb. A good friend was telling me about this place and he wasn't hyping the orange sauce but the super quesadilla. I was looking forward to a killer quesadilla. Ever since moving back from LA, I really haven't found a place that has wowed me in terms of mexican food.

So I started with a carne asada super quesadilla. The skin was crispy and the cheese was a amazing texture. It was perfect for the quesadilla. It wasn't super greasy as the asada juices dripped onto my hand. I had a few bites with the orange sauce. It definitely has a minor kick and reminded me of the spicy mayo some shushi restaurants use on their rolls.

Then onto the carnitas taco. This thing was packed with meat. It was crazy. I didn't enjoy the carnitas as much as I did the carne asada. But it was a crazy big taco.

Next time maybe the burrito and the chicken.

Oh yes, that orange sauce.  It's so good that my friends who came to visit from SoCal bought two bottles and attempted to smuggle it through airport security in cargo short pockets (unsuccessfully, haha).  But yea, it's pretty good.  I can only attest to the regular carne asada burritos here.  The carne asada is super tasty and moist.

At lunchtime there is always a long line.  Good sign right?  I know there are mixed reviews about the much-hyped orange sauce, but give it try and decide for yourself.  I ain't hatin on it.

I tried the Chrizo and it's absolutely horrible. Now I prefer the Lengua burrito (beef tongue) and I just cant get enough! Soooo good. Only thing keeping it from getting a 5 star is because the beans are slightly strange to me. I don't even usually eat burritos but I eat them here. =D

One thing to warn is that I usually eat a large portion but even the regular burrito is enough to fill me up. I can never finish a Super burrito for $1 more and I cant even taste the added ingredients of sour cream and guacamole anyway.

Yay! I'm a fan... on a drunken night... lol. the only obstacle here is to get there before all them club-goers beat you to it. A perfect time to arrive to this place is around 1AM because after that, good luck in satisfying your appetite in the long lines they have. This place is known for being open late until 3AM 7 days a week. Perfect for those college kids and club heads to hit up in the wee hours of the night for what they may call "a midnight snack". Also know for their famous orange sauce. Pricing is good, burritos are alright. So all i can say is thank you la vics for filling me up on my drunken/all nighter nights.

TWO WORDS: Orange Sauce!!!!!!

My first experience with La Vic's was in downtown San Jose after a hardcore night of clubbing (as most usual customers of La Vic's). I ordered the carne asada burrito and was about to take a bite, when my friend freaked out and shoved a bottle of the signature La Vic's spicy orange sauce. The sauce MADE the burrito. Unfortunately I have to say the food at this place is really nothing special without the orange sauce.

I am so in love with this sauce that EVERY time I go to La Vic's whether it be the restaurant or smaller location in downtown San Jose I ALWAYS buy a bottle for $6. The sauce goes with everything from baby carrot sticks to hard boiled eggs!

I have to say that the ORIGINAL La Vic's location is where it's AT! It's the perfect AFTER BAR HOPPING spot!

Make sure you try the orange sauce, the delicious horchata, and the quesadilla. You can  never go wrong with that combination!

Decent taqueria, good and cheap, service is kinda slow though (no crazy efficient assembly line burrito here).

I don't care for the orange sauce, but I'm weird like that about sauces.
