What do you think this place is a barn?  Well.... actually it is. The large family style portions will bring a smile to your face and satisfaction to your appetite.   La Stalla is located in a renovated barn that was built back in 1929.  The exposed wood beams and Tuscan decor really make you feel at home.

I'm a fan of the open air kitchen that lets you watch as they turn out meal after meal.  During the warmer months outside dining is available and is always a fun option.

The menu is robust and diverse.  I haven't had a below average meal at La Stalla and I don't think I ever will.  With the abundance of Italian establishments in the Tri State area La Stalla rises to the top.

If you go on a weekend night make sure to get there early because it gets packed.

I love the menu.  It is also great to just meet friends for drinks and apps.  The nightlife tends to be a 40+ but very happening.  The restaurant area is good for people with kids before 6, or handling groups.

    The cheeseballs are amazeballs!

Also, they have a bocce court near the outside bar!

I'm only giving it 3 stars because I don't know how the food tastes (besides the cheeseballs).

The thing that I take most for granted living in Miami, is the abundance of incredible restaurants. This is not to say that I don't eat at them enough--because I do eat out a lot--but I just have become so accustomed to there always being a delicious food option of any variety at every price point. You want French food? There is a hole in the wall French bakery that can satisfy you with the best croissants and brie sandwiches for less than $5 (Le Royal). There is also a little brasserie in the grove that serves the best ceasar salads for $12 (Le Bouchon du Grove). Or you can splurge and enjoy a truely memorable foie gras and braised short rib burger for $30 (Db Bistro Moderne). And Cuban food? Well you can get that delicious anywhere, for either dirt cheap, cheap, or accurately priced. The only type of food that I believe Miami lacks in variety is Chinese. It's weird, Miami only does upscale Chinese. There is no greasy, grungy, make you feel sick to your stomach (but all at the same time delicious) kind of Chinese food. Then again, this could be a great step in the evolution of American eating habits, so I won't really complain--although I do crave my oil-drenched Lo Mien from time to time!
But enough of my tangent and back to the point! It wasn't until this spring break that I realized just how fortunate I am as a foodie to be living in Miami. I'm back in Philadelphia for break and when my parents asked me to pick a place for dinner tonight, I suddenly realized that all the options were Italian. I love a good pasta dish and marsala sauce, but I also like to switch things up a little, and I just had Italian with Jen last night. But faced with choice of Italian or Italian, I chose my second favorite Italian restaurant (after Domani Star, where I ate last night) and decided on La Stalla located in Newtown.
La Stalla is more conducive than Domani Star for large parties, so we usually eat all of our special occasion meals here. Both the food and service are predictable and consistently good, and the atmosphere is cozy and elegant. Wednesday nights are a fun night for people watching, since all the divorcees have their big "off night" from the kids and tend to post up at the bar, decked out in their most cougar-ish attire. It's dinner and a show.
To start, my family always orders the Tuscan Table which is an antipasti spread complete with Sharp Aged Parmesan Cheese, Grilled Asparagus, Roasted Portobello Mushrooms, Roasted Red Peppers, Marinated Hot Peppers, Kalamata Olives, Marinated Artichoke Hearts, and Beans in Vinaigrette. This plate is also accompanied by warm Tuscan Bread and herbed dipping oil. It is usually the highlight of the meal for me because I can pick at all the different flavors while I sip my first cocktail and read over the dinner specials for the evening. My mom and I have even come just for drinks and the Tuscan Table before, because it is that good! My family's other favorite appetizer is the Mussels in Spicy Red Sauce, which are killer...enough said.
Tonight I ordered one of my favorite pasta dishes here--the Penne Puttanesca, which is Penne Pasta sautéed with Kalamata Olives, Capers, Onion, Parsley, and Cherry Tomatoes in a White Wine Pomodoro Sauce. I typically like to switch out the penne pasta for a linguine, because I like twirling my pasta (silly, I know), but tonight I had the penne and it was just as delicious. The sauce is a light red sauce and the capers and olives add just the right saltiness to the dish. Bets of all, the food at La Stalla is always burn-your-mouth hot! Even the dishes are blistering hot, so there is no pressure to eat in a hurry before your food gets cold.
My dad also ordered a pasta dish for his entrée and got the Farfalle e Gamberi, which is Bowtie Pasta sautéed with Shrimp, Grape Tomatoes, and Garlic in a Blush Pomodoro Sauce. I would never order a seafood pasta as my own entrée, but I had a few bites of his and loved it. The sauce was simple and delicious and they certainly weren't scant with the shrimp either! My dad and I also split a side order of Broccoli Rabe with Sautéed Garlic, which was phenomenal. They added a ton of garlic which took away from the bitterness of the legume, and it wasn't weighed down with oil so it felt nice and light.
My mom dared to be different and ordered the Pork Chop Special, which was served with Roasted Potatoes and Broccoli Rabe. She was disappointed because the meat was well over-cooked and after a few bites decided to send it back and order a pasta dish as well. She ordered the Farfalle Mascarpone, which is Farfalle pasta sautéed with Mushrooms, Asparagus, and Grape Tomatoes tossed in a Creamy Mascarpone Cheese Sauce. The dish was rich, as expected, but the flavors were spot on and the pasta was perfectly cooked. It was an upscale macaroni and cheese, and it certainly delivered the same comfort. I was also impressed by how quickly they managed to get her new dish to the table. She waited no more than 8 minutes!

Originally built in 1929, the restored historic Lovett Barn is now home to a trattoria that caters to homemade Italian cuisine. http://www.lastallares...

The pasta's and sauces are homemade, the prices are a little on the high side.  The dinner menu priced for two, can be split in half for one and add $3.00.  The clams casino are very good and seasoned perfectly with red pepper, onion and bacon.

The Marsala dishes are exceptional, with your choice of chicken or veal.  They offer a large list of ways to have your chicken or veal, like Francese, parmigiano, saltimbocca and so on.

The choices of pasta entrees could drive you insane, you name it, they make it.  The choices for both lunch and dinner is a wide selection from the appetizers to the salads and the great variety of entrees.  The antipasto choices are more than most Italian restaurants offer.

Check them out at and while visiting their site, check out their calendar for discounts and half price bottle of wine nights.  They serve a Sunday buffet which is a great and tasty value.

In Italian, La Stalla means "stable."  As in "barn."  Not really the best name for a restaurant but there is a reason behind it.  The building that houses "La Stalla" was a dairy barn many moons ago.  The rustic ambience creates a feeling of dining on the Tuscan Italian countryside.  OK, not really, but it's a pretty cool spot.

One important thing to note about this restaurant is that all food is served family style.  Enough for two.  Normally I would love this because it gives you the opportunity to try several dishes.  But if you are only two, it means you need to agree on one dish you want to share.  This can be challenging, especially if you're dining with a vegetarian, as I was, and you're not.  However for a bigger group of at least four, I think this style of eating would be a bonus.

We started off with the cold vegetable antipasto.  It came with olives, roasted red peppers, grilled portabellas, zucchini, asparagus, green beans and some hard cheese, most likely parmesan.  Not the most amazing dish, but good and more interesting than getting just a salad.  They also serve nice crusty bread with olive oil for dipping.  For our entree, we had the pappardelle with pesto.  The pasta was fresh and the sauce was too, absolutely delicious.

My one other visit to La Stalla, which was also an excellent experience, was for lunch.  This is not served family style.

The menu is extensive.  View it at http://www.lastallares....

Reservations are only available for parties of six or more.  Bonus - they have a bocce court!

As soon as we entered La Stalla, I felt this was going to be a great dinner. We ordered. Everything was going well. I got an eggplant dish for starters.....Almost started eating it, when I discovered that they rolled a slice of ham in the eggplant....YUCK.
Being a vegetarian, it would suck quite a bit to eat ham.

Lost my appetite instantly and didnt eat anything else.

Ordering the eggplant without asking "is there any meat in it" was definitely my mistake. But, unfortunately, I have had this same dish in other restaurants and they never add any meat in it.

so, my experience here was pretty bitter.
I must compliment the waitstaff who decided to remove the item from our bill.
Other people in our party liked the food.

Sadly, I am giving this place a "1".
I am sure it can do better...especially if you are a meatatarian.

Maybe it's just because I'm so sick of Italian food this week, but I'm giving it 3 stars. maybe like 3.75. And I never get sick of Italian food because it's my FAVORITE but...Anyway.

Came here with a huge party (about 45+) for work. Good place for a group. The seating arrangement was rather odd; they sat us all in a long long line of tables, two on each side. My co-worker described it as the Last Supper. I laughed. The bar is small but cute in the front. They have a decent amount of wine by the glass (note: I didn't see a wine list since I was in a large party). Once seated we had really good service; no excessive waiting, which was surprising for a large party. Ordered a few bottles of wine.

Had the parmesan bread with warm spinach, olives, roasted bell peppers...it was good. The spinach was REALLY fresh and I loved it. I'll upload a pic soon. The salad was good. Again, fresh mixed greens. A little heavy on the dressing, but not too bad. It also had some hard chunks of cheese; I think it as parmesan. And some salami, which I think it could have done without. Next up: Fried Mozzarella. Better than a typical friend mozzarella since it was soaked in a nice marinara sauce instead of served dry with a dipping sauce. I guess logistically they had a hunk of mozzarella, then sliced it, breaded it, and fried it. These were not mozzarella sticks...Next up: a garlicky penne type pasta with broccoli. That was light and fresh. We also had the gnocchi. The tomato sauce was really good. Eggplant Parmesan next. Skipped that - not normally a fan. Then Chicken Marsala. That was good too.

It was almost like I was in some region of Italy since it was served in courses. You know, when they give you the meat separately and the veggies separate, and pasta separate. So nothing is ever really on your plate at the same time. Not sure if it was just because we were in such a large party. Other family style places give you everything relatively together. Anyway. Nice place for a group. I'm sure I'll be back when I'm in town!

I was here for a reunion and I have to say that this place was pretty accommodating considering how busy it was.  We were outside and the food was served promptly and the staff at the outdoor bar were friendly and funny.

The food was ok but no one cared..... There was a guy with a KEYTAR - yes, a KEYTAR - playing outside trying to get the group to get down with his badass style!

I've had many dinners here over the years and have always enjoyed the homemade, fresh Italian food.  The menu is extensive with a ton of pasta dishes to choose from plush many chicken and veal options too.  It's true that the dishes are serves family style -- each serving 2, but they do allow you to split them in hald and order for 1 (charging a little more).  The last time I went, we ate outside on a beatiful summer night, and it was wonderful.  I had never realized that there is also a bocce ball court on the patio.  Overall, this place is a little pricey, but has some of the best Italian food in Newtown!

I've heard about this place from many friends, so I wanted to try it out. Some of the best italian food I've had in bucks county. However, I would suggest going here with a larger group of people (at least 4-5) since they serve portions for 2 and it's great to order a few entrees and pass them around the table. I went here for my bf's brother's graduation dinner with his family, and it was the perfect amount of food for us. The waiter was a little clueless, but he was young and I think he had mentioned that he just started working there recently, so we cut him a break.  The prices aren't actually too bad, considering how much food you actually get. We had a chicken dish and a seafood dish, and both were equally good. Also, despite the review I saw below, I thought the eggplant appetizer was excellent. It is a thin slice of eggplant rolled around a thin slice of ham and some cheeses, but I think the ham brings out the flavor of the eggplant. (and I do remember it saying it had ham in it on the menu). Just sayin.
The inside is pretty and they do have outdoor seating, which I would like to try one of these days since I've only ever sat inside.

Really should be 3.5 since it's Newtown, but the food is only "A-OK".  3 dishes we got were the tortellini & bolognese, penne carbonara, and linguine w/ clams in white wine sauce.  The first 2 were good, in fact the carbonara was delicious, but the linguine was a let down due to lack of flavor.  Another downer was that we were sitting near some very loud drunks, but hey it was the holidays so you kinda expect that.  Would probably go again since choices are kinda limited in the area.

Had dinner on this Fat Tuesday evening. Hearty dishes that's what I can say!

We actually had a party of 20 people and ordered the following dinner package:
    - Appitizers: Special Garlic Bread (comes with tender mushrooms and grilled jalapinio peppers, interesting taste but good) + Tender Calamari battered and fried (taste a bit mild but it comes with salsa dip)
    - Traditional Ceasar Salad (good)
    - 2 kinds of pastas (red and white)
    - 3 meaty dishes: pan-seared pork chops (with grilled hot cherry peppers and tender mushrooms, all veggines are surprisingly spicy and hot, very interesting!), Veal (breaded and pan fried), and Chicken (breaded and pan fried)
    - Desert Platter (ice cream, banana split, and slice of fruit pies)
    - Australian Wine

If I have to say something less satisfactory that would be the restroom, only one toilet seat in each restroom considering a restaurant with a capacity of approximately 100+- people.

Was hungry for Italian food and La Stalla came highly recommended.  Sitting at a table, you can almost imagine you are in Italy.  The food was good as was the service.  Ordered an appetizer and two entrees and our bill was just 50.00-- not bad at all!  Especially because we munched on the leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day!

Yesterday my bridal shower was hosted at La Stalla.  Everything was perfect!  The food was delicious, the mimosas were overflowing, and the staff were spectacular.  Not only do I love La Stalla for brunch, anytime; but also, without being biased, I really can't think of a better place that I have been, or that I have wanted, to host a shower/event.

My sincere thanks to all of the staff for making this such a wonderful event!

Been here 3 times over the past year or so. The best time I had was sitting outside on a summer night. The service is always good. Food was good 2 out of the 3 times I went. I would not recommend the pork that is one of thier daily specials (Tuesday or Thursday, I cant remember which). Not only was the pork cooked to death, but it was quite expensive, if my memory serves me correct it was $55 or so. I have had probably 10 other dishes and they were all great.
